ONE SHOT
[ or Part 2 of Could We Not ]
<< Request >> "I loved could we not. Can you maybe also write when that guy came running on stage and he maybe pushes reader out of the way or something like that😅" - anon
<< Request >> "Omg PLEASE could you do more parts or ‘could we not’ literally loved it!!!" - @loza--may
Summary: Harry is used to things getting crazy on tour. What he wasn't ready for is how much he misses YN during the Latin American leg of his tour. But at the Rio de Janeiro show, he needs to expect the unexpected.
AN: Highly requested part 2, which I wasn't expecting but am so honored to have written for you all. Sorry it took me FOREVER to write and post this. I hope you like it.
Warnings: Some explicit language, attempted attack by a fan, mild head injury
Not much can shake Harry when it comes to wild moments on tour, throughout his entire career. There once was a fan hiding in a trash bin, dildos thrown at his face, wedding proposals, canceled shows due to illness, and there was even a time when a girl tried to dolphin her way onto the stage, back in the early days. But he still loves it, loves it all. It's titled 'Love On Tour' for a reason.
Now, he's in Latin America. Any and every performance here has such a special place in Harry's heart. He has a 'brasil' tattoo on his thigh, after all. However, the time is a little different.
The horn players have not accompanied the band for these shows. No trombone, no saxophone, and no trumpets. Which means no YN. No sweet but subtle winks onstage, no flirtatious comments backstage, no seeing her bright smile, no hearing her pure laugh, or getting lost in her beautifully deep eyes. No gazing at her lips and wishing so desperately that he could kiss them again.
Unfortunately, their first kiss was their last. Harry hopes that's not forever. But after it happened, he got sick, putting a crimp in his plans to further things with her. When he recovered, their time was taken up by those last few shows in Los Angeles. Then he was off to Mexico. And she wasn't.
Needless to say, her absence is very apparent. To him, at least.
So, like he has done every show since Guadalajara, Harry checks his phone after getting dressed. He wants to make sure he hasn't missed any 'good luck' texts before going on stage, but a disappointed sigh releases as he sees that he has no new messages.
"Alright, H. Ten minutes." The stage assistant announces.
Harry nods, handing his phone over and grabbing his mic pack from the sound tech. The band gathers around for a little pre-show ritual and Harry feels the tug on his heart, wishing there were four more members in their huddle, so there could be one particular member tucked under his arm. But he commits to staying focused on his performance, to put on a good show for the people of Rio de Janeiro.
Despite a few fans fainting in Bogota, things have been relatively smooth so far, and this night should be no different. All he has to do is get out there and get through it.
"Do you know the words to this one Rio?" Harry shouts to the crowd as the band begins to play 'What Makes You Beautiful'.
Despite his efforts, this song always makes him miss YN. The trumpets in the backing track just don't do this song, or any of the songs, as much justice as when she is there, with him, playing live. The other three too, of course, but he has always been able to distinguish her trumpet from the other horns, and he would always dance near her while this song played. Without that, without her, it's just not nearly as exciting.
As he begins the second verse, Harry moves to his left, twisting around to tug on the mic cord that feels as if it's caught on something.
"I don't know why you're being shy…" Harry's eyes shoot up and then around as a security guard strides past him, settling his gaze on a figure charging towards him. "And you turn away when I look into your eyes."
It's like a flash. He is walking, then swiveling around, moving over, and then backing up into another security guard. All within a matter of a few seconds. It takes a moment for him to fully understand what's happening, as multiple crew members grab hold of the man.
Watching him be dragged offstage, Harry moves back to the center mic, still in shock of what happened but still wanting to continue the song.
He glances over to each side of the stage, shaking the disbelief away when he meets the gazes of a few of the band and crew. Each one reciprocates the sentiment, yet seem to keep their caution, as a few of them motion over that way. Harry turns back, just for a quick check, and notices a small group of people gathered in a huddle. He turns back to the crowd. He trusts his team, he knows they are handling whatever it is, and he won't let this one moment take away from the show. It can't stop him. It won't stop him.
As the song ends he takes a quick moment to gather himself and take a breath before turning to the crowd.
"Well that was different…" He states sarcastically, though truthfully. It's probably one of the more accurate ways to describe that moment, especially if he's trying to keep this a 'family show', as he always claims. "Is everybody okay?"
The fans laugh and cheer, seeming to answer his question with the same disbelief he feels.
"I'm shooketh… I'm shooketh!" He exclaims, receiving another laugh from the audience. At least they are recovering and feeling good. Now he can recover and feel good too. He twists around, looking from one side of the stage to another, meeting the gaze of a few security guards and crew as he does so. "Thank you, thank you. You saved me!"
That's when he catches it. The glimpse of a familiar face, of YN's face, off to the side of the stage, among the small group he had noticed earlier. However, her expression is not one he's seen before. Well, only once before. It's pained, again, but this time it looks worse, and Harry feels his stomach drop.
He transitions into a quick acknowledgement of his band members, his mind wanting to focus solely on the one who wasn't even scheduled to be there, but as soon as he's done, he takes advantage of what's next.
He uses the band mic to let everyone know he'll be off to the side while the extended introduction to 'Late Night Talking' plays on the screens, and once the lights dim he swiftly makes his way over.
"YN. What's-... what are you-… umm, hi." He fumbles, his thoughts racing with so many questions. He didn't even know she'd be in Brazil, or at the show, let alone on the side of the stage, and now she's standing there in front of him, with an ice pack on her head.
"Hi." She chuckles minimally, hurting Harry's heart with the lack of usual enthusiasm and joy. "I came… to surprise… everyone."
"Well, you did that!" He exclaims, managing as best of a smile as he can. His gaze travels from her eyes, to her lips, and then up to her head, and his expression immediately drops. "What happened?"
"It's nothing." She attempts to play off, much like the last time he saw her injured. "Don't worry about me."
"That's impossible." He retorts. "What happened?"
"The guy… the fan, just… knocked me down… on his way out with security." She shakes her head, scoffing, though Harry feels as if she's directing it towards herself more than anyone else.
"Okay. Umm… go backstage and get checked out." He states, his ears picking up on the music, knowing he'll have to return to center stage in just a few moments. "I'll… I'll see you after, yeah?"
"Harry, I'm fi-"
"Just do it!" He exclaims, immediately wincing as he watches her eyes widen with surprise. He's never talked to her like that, never even raised his voice even remotely in her direction without it being out of excitement or flirtation. But he cares about her, and now he will only worry more seeing her there in pain. "Please."
She nods, opening her mouth with a reply, but seemingly deciding against it.
Harry gives YN a quick kiss on the cheek and hustles back over to his mic stand, shooting his gaze to the side for one last glance of her as she walks out of sight.
It's not as if he's going to stop worrying, but maybe it'll be a little less than it would if she were still there watching him. He knows she'll be taken care of, and he'll see her when it's over. Right now, he needs to get through the rest of it, preferably without any other issues.
"... on a Summer evening, what is happening? An-... you're the end of… we are going to stop the song."
Technical difficulties. During 'Watermelon Sugar'. Of course. As if Harry's mind wasn't already somewhere else. He knows it's an easy fix, hopefully, but it's just another thing added to the existing thoughts already causing chaos in his mind. He's a professional, sure, but everyone has a limit and he just doesn't want to find out where his is.
Get through it. That's all he has to do, just get through the next song, the show, and the night. Just get through it and then get to YN.
'Love of My Life' is next. Thankfully it's a slow song, so he can calm his mind and body down, even just a little, before the break in the set. And at that point he can finally regroup.
It works, for a moment, until he notices that some fans need help, and despite making his team aware, they are still there struggling. He lifts the mic stand up and turns his head back, motioning with his finger, with some intensity, for someone to help them and get them out of there.
He feels himself spiraling, just a bit, and has never looked forward to the end of a song as much as he is tonight.
As Harry waves to the crowd, with a mouthful of water, he impatiently waits to spit it up in the air, thank the crowd, and get the hell off stage.
The crowd continues to applaud and cheer as he says goodbye, turning around and using the last bit of energy he has to run backstage.
He stops among the hustle of the crew, realizing he isn't sure where to go, or where to even start looking for YN. The most likely place is his dressing room, so he swiftly shuffles his way there, doing his best to acknowledge anyone he passes by that congratulates or compliments him. He feels bad, he usually takes time with each person, always grateful for their work and feedback. But not tonight. He only has one person on his mind. One person he wants and needs to see.
He swings the door open and takes a quick scan of the room, finding no one. Not anyone. Not her. He runs his fingers through his now very sweaty hair, inhaling deeper to catch his breath and figure out where to go next, where to look next.
He takes a seat on the couch, elbows resting in his knees, and glances over to the table in front of him to find a note that wasn't there before. He grabs it immediately, blinking the salty moisture out of his eyes as he looks over the words.
"Hey H.
Went back to the hotel.
Hope you had a great
rest of your show!
- YN"
"Fuck." He mumbles, suddenly remembering how he yelled for her to go backstage. Well, he could argue that he only raised his voice, but in that moment, that hectic moment, it didn't matter. He shouldn't have done it at all. And truth be told, it would've made the entire night better if she had stayed. But he yelled, and sent her away. Now all he wants to do is go to her and make it better, make her feel better.
After the fastest shower and outfit change of his life, Harry found Jeff and discovered that his manager helped YN get there, so he knew which hotel room was hers. At least Harry didn't have to spend countless hours searching all of Rio for her.
He stands in front of her door and takes a deep breath, nerves on edge as he knocks, and fully prepared for her to open the door and ask him to leave. Immediately.
"Harry?" He hears, causing his gaze to lift from his shoes to the woman in front of him. She's dressed in cotton shorts and a t-shirt, looking comfortable and yet more beautiful than he's ever seen her. He just wishes she wasn't also holding another ice pack to her temple.
"YN." He breathes out, unable to form any other words as he looks her over, hopefully more subtle than he fears it might be. "Are y-... how… I mean, umm…"
The sweetest sound grabs his attention and he watches her step aside as she lets out a small giggle.
"Come in."
He nods, and without hesitation steps into the room. The sound of the door closing causes him to swivel on his heel, and his eyes stay fixed on YN as she motions him over to the edge of the bed.
"What's up?" She asks, casually, removing the ice pack and placing it down beside her.
"I, umm, wanted to check on you." He answers, not convinced his volume was even loud enough to be heard. "How are you feeling?"
"Sore." She swiftly responds, and he cringes at the lack of emotion with it. Even though it was only one word, he feels as if he knows her well enough to know that's not her normal tone. "Hit my head when the guy knocked me to the ground."
"I'm so sorry, YN. I didn't know you were there tonight, or I would've…" He pauses, looking down to where his nails pick at each other. "I don't know… I could've done… something…"
"No, Harry, I'm sorry." She states, causing his gaze to shoot back up to find hers filled with, what looks like, embarrassment. And maybe even regret. But definitely with insecurity, which is not something he's used to seeing from her. "I shouldn't have come."
"Oh." His heart drops.
"I feel like I may have been in the way. Well, I was for that fan…" She states, the smallest smile lifting the corners of her mouth, despite the roll of her eyes and shake of her head. "But I definitely didn't want to be in yours."
"No! I'm glad you're here!" He replies, without hesitation, and watches as her eyes widen, now allowing him to see the depths at which they usually take him to.
"You are? Because it seemed like…" YN clears her throat, confirming for Harry that she is in fact nervous. Not confident. And it seems to be his fault. "It seemed like you were upset when you saw me."
"No! Not at all." Harry replies, his frustration with himself appearing in the crease between his brows. "I wasn't upset seeing you there, I was upset seeing you hurt. Really upset. I didn't mean to yell at you. I'm sorry."
"It's fine, H. I'm alright."
"I know. I know that. I just… I was worried for the rest of the show, wondering if you were okay. It was torturing me."
"I didn't mean for that to happen. I'm really sorry." She lets out a sigh, and it almost breaks Harry's heart as she drops her gaze and squeezes her eyes shut.
"No, don't-... that's not-..." Harry lets out a low growl in frustration. He doesn't know how to express what he means, and if he even should. But at this point, he doesn't know if he can hold back. "It was torture because all I wanted to do was fix it for you. Like last time."
"Like last time?"
He hears her breath hitch, and his heart races more, feeling each beat thump against his chest. They had shared a kiss the last time she got hurt. They spent the rest of the night together, hanging out and talking until the sun was almost rising. But then nothing. Was that it? Was it just a one time thing, just a momentary thing after an adrenaline-raising show? No, it wasn't. Not for him. And she needs to know.
"I… like you, YN. A lot. And that night… meant a lot to me." He fully turns his body towards her, gaining a fraction of the confidence for himself that he has always seen in her, and since she is now there in Brazil, he won't waste another minute without sharing his heart. "We didn't really get to talk much afterwards, or see each other even, but I just need you to know that… I want to be with you. If… if that's something you want too."
Harry watches as she pulls her lips inward, hoping that the expression he sees underneath is pleasant. Pleasant for him. But he suddenly realizes that if she doesn't feel the same, he doesn't want to lose her. For the band.
"If it's not, no problem. We can move past it." He swallows the lump caught grasping against the walls of his throat. "I don't want you to be uncomfortable, and don't want you to leave the band over it. You're very talented, YN."
"Thank you." She replies, looking over at him with those gorgeous eyes and a tenderness she's never given him before, and despite him offering to move past his feelings, for the sake of his heart, he desperately hopes that she feels the same. He wants her to only look at him like that from now on. "And that night meant a lot to me as well."
"Yeah?" He responds, shifting in his spot at the edge of her bed, with all the giddiness of a lovesick school boy.
"I want to be with you too, H."
His palms fly up to her cheeks, receiving a warmth from them that flows right to his chest. His gaze flickers to her lips, yearning for them, desperate for them.
"Are you going to kiss me or not?" She chuckles, and his heart swells from the self-assurance that she always expresses, that he has fallen for.
He grins, wider than he ever has, but only for a moment. He's not going to wait any longer. He leans closer, and her eyes close, pursing her soft lips to meet his in a gentle kiss.
Her hands run up his arms, applying pressure as they move over his shoulders, and connect behind his neck. She pulls him closer, and his tongue teases her lips before she parts them, each sighing as they deepen the kiss.
His chest tightens, this time out of need for air, so he pulls back, only leaving enough room for a breath, and smiles as he hears her release her own, happy exhale.
"How are you feeling now?" He asks, resting his forehead against hers as one hand strokes over the hair covering her temple.
"Much better. I do need to rest now, though." She whispers. "But, you know, I may have a concussion…"
"That's not funny."
"No, it's not. It's very serious." She pulls away more, hands still behind his head, and his mind fills with worry. Worry and confusion, as he watches her smile reappear through her solemn expression. "I should probably have someone stay with me tonight. To make sure I'm alright, of course."
"Of course." He smirks, feeling his heart burst, following as she scoots up the bed and rests her head on the pillow.
He does the same, laying down to face her, and sees her eyes begin to flutter shut. It's been an exhausting day for the both of them.
"Come here." He whispers, opening his arms for her to settle in, wrapping them around her body, and pulling her to his chest. "You doing okay?"
"More than okay." She utters, drowsiness now coating her words. "Thank you, for fixing things."
"Anytime." He replies, placing a tender kiss on top of her head. "I'll fix things for you anytime."
A silence falls between them, and as he hears her soft breaths leave her even softer lips, Harry hums in contentment, allowing his own body to succumb to the rest it now needs too. He shuts his eyes, and one last thought appears as he feels himself happily drift off to sleep.
Despite all the chaos, this night didn't turn out so bad after all. With YN, it's been the best one yet.

Starlett - Part 1
Cooper Howard/fem!OC (not self-insert)
Tags: Hurt/comfort (sort of?), non-allowed romantic connection, lots of tention, pre and post war drama, some fluff
Warnings: Mentions of domestic abuse (no graphic scenes or descriptions of that nature), angst, canon wasteland violence
Summary: The Ghoul remembers a recruit of Moldaver, by the name of Irene Taylor, who he met before the war.
This branches out from canon but I thought it was a cute story idea so I had to write it. Enjoy! ♡
Part 2 | Part 3 | Final part
2296
Cooper's weather-beaten boots thudded on the dirt, the stones crackling beneath his heels.
The town was too quiet for there not to be a surprise waiting for him somewhere amongst the pre-war rubble so when a glimpse of movement caught his attention and he pulled his gun.
A kid, no older than 15 held up his hands in fear.
"Please don't shoot!"
Coopers sunken eyes narrowed. "Do yourself a favour and scram. If you try anything I will shoot you. Understand?"
The kid nodded frantically in agreement and Cooper gestured with his gun for the kid to get out of there.
As the boy ran off, a large, rolled up piece of paper fell out of his backpack and unfurled face-up in the dirt.
Cooper stepped over as he re-holstered his gun, and looked down at it out of curiosity. When he saw a familiar face on it he bent down to pick it up and held it out in front of him.
"Irene Taylor," It read. "Songbird of Hollywood Hills."
On the poster was a large photograph of a glamorous woman behind a microphone, and a look of a fond, yet faded, remembrance appeared on his scarred features.
2077
"This is a little public for a meeting isn't it?" Cooper asked as he and Lee Muldaver made their way to an empty table at a local jazz club called the Bird Cage.
"My contact is meeting us here. Don't worry about being recognised, this place is used to celebrities, they mind their own business."
They took a seat and settled in and Cooper turned his attention to the band, the singer had a lovely voice and it reminded him of the band that played at his wedding. He shook the memory from his mind.
"So where is this contact?" He asked.
Muldaver smiled a little. "You're listening to her."
He looked back at the singer.
Now that he thought about it, he did recognise her. He'd seen her face on posters for jazz clubs all over the city but never gave them much thought.
"Her husband is Frank Taylor, he's an executive for Vault Tec. She feeds us any information she can get. She's one of our best."
She had wonderful stage presence, captivating the audience with a rendition of "Them There Eyes" by Billie Holiday. Her champagne coloured dress sparkled in the stage lights, and she had every person in that room wrapped around her finger, and she knew it.
When she finished the song the room roared with applause and she stepped off the stage, politely thanking patrons as they came up to her on her way over.
Muldaver rose from her seat to meet her as she reached their table.
"Lee." Irene smiled fondly as she hugged her. "Thank you for coming."
"That was wonderful as always."
"Stop it you." Irene joked.
"May I introduce Mr. Cooper Howard?"
Irene looked at him and he held out his hand, having stood up with Muldaver.
"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Howard." She smiled as she took his hand.
"The pleasure is mine." He replied with a charming grin.
She sat down at their table and waved the waiter down for a round of drinks.
"How is everything going? Is Frank well?" Muldaver asked.
Cooper noticed Irene make a subtle, nervous glance at the bar before answering. "He's fine." She replied. "You said there was something you wanted to talk to me about?"
"Yes, our new recruit."
Muldaver looked at Cooper and Irene seemed surprised, unable to reply for a few seconds.
"I apologise for seeming so shocked, but with all of your promotions with Vault Tec, you're one of the last people I'd expect."
"Don't worry about it." He replied, reassuring her. "I understand. I'm not the first I'd expect either."
"Well, I guess this proves how convincing Lee can be." She smiled again, but there was something in that smile that seemed pained somehow.
Just then, a man came up behind them with a drink in his hand and put the other on Irene's shoulder and she jumped a little.
By her reaction Cooper thought it was another random patron come to say hello and invade her space, but he kissed her on the cheek and she looked up and smiled at him.
"Hello darling." She said.
"Hi Frank, how have you been?" Muldaver smiled.
"Oh, you know, more hours and no pay rise." He joked.
It was obvious he was tipsy and the discomfort on Irene's face as her husband sat down next to her made Cooper's eyes narrow a little.
"Darling, have you met Mr. Howard?"
"No I haven't had the pleasure." Frank replied, reaching over to shake his hand. "Nice to finally meet you Mr. Howard, your advert for vault 4 was terrific, exactly what we were looking for. I was sad to hear about your resignation."
Cooper shifted in his seat and chuckled uncomfortably, trying to retain his professionalism. "Ah, well, I'm not getting any younger." He joked.
Frank laughed, a little louder than was necessary. "Aren't we all! Say, is it true that it was your real dog in A Man and His Dog?".
Cooper took a sip of his drink that had just arrived. "Yes, Roosevelt, he's a beloved member of our little family."
"Well isn't that just the cutest darn thing." He smiled.
Irene was shrinking. Frank's presence was drowning the one that was only just captivating an entire audience. Then he noticed it and his chest pulsed with distain.
"Mr. Taylor, would you mind if I stole your wife for a dance?"
Irene looked slightly worried and stuttered her reply. "U-um, I don't..." She looked at Frank, almost for permission.
He hesitated but wanted to save face in front of everyone. "Of course." He smiled.
She stood up and walked over to take Cooper's extended hand.
He lead her to the dance floor. The band was playing an instrumental of "Good Morning Heartache" and he placed a hand on her waist.
"Not too close." She said. She realised her fear had slipped out and very quickly composed herself. "Don't want Frank to get jealous." She chuckled, disguising her reaction with a joking tone.
He stayed a modest distance from her as they began swaying to the music.
"He's playing it down but Frank is a big fan of yours. He's seen almost all of your movies, even dressed as your role in The Man From Calabasas for Halloween a few years back."
"You know," he said. "There's a funny story from that set. In the scene where I had to lasso that steer, the first take it somehow managed to pull me clean off my horse. I had a terrible black eye for two weeks after that, but the makeup team covered it up so well that no one could tell. In other words, I know a cover job when I see one."
She nervously glanced at her shoulder, briefly enough that hopefully Frank wouldn't notice if he was watching her.
"I know we just met, and it's none of my business, but Lee told me you married him for the mission. If he's hurting you, you need to tell her."
"She knows." Irene replied.
"She knows? And she hasn't pulled you out?"
"I asked her not to."
"Why?"
"Because this cause means a lot to me, and whatever I'm going through is for the greater good. I'm the only one with my foot in the door this high up, at least before you showed up."
He was getting angry now, not at anyone in particular, but at the unnecessary situation.
"Forgive me, but that's about the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever heard. You don't need to be in this any more than I do."
She scoffed dismissively. "You don't understand Mr. Howard, this is my purpose, stopping Vault Tec in any way that I can, even if it's one password or document at a time."

Tidbits about Sledge from China Marine:
He had a horse- mentions it in a throwaway line
couldn't shoot a dangerous dog because he was a "sentimental dog-lover" in his words (honestly same)
loved Mozart and other classical music
Loved philosophy
Loved history- look this man's a nerd, he was more interested in the historical sites of Beijing like the Forbidden City than all the other guys who focused on women and drinking (good for him honestly lol- probably better that way tbh too)
Was not a party guy- getting those vibes, introvert maybe?
hated vodka
Was not a drinker- his dad schooled him early about the problems with that, so Sledge to his admission, only really had like a beer or two at most usually
Went to a party out of spite/to prove he was right
Got sepsis from the sores on his fingers- he got better tho, but did have to wear a sling
Kinda a prankster honestly on two occasions with some buds
learned a bit of Chinese from a guy called How (hope I'm spelling it right) who was a paid houseboy for the Marines- he was Sledge's age, and was better with learning English than Sledge learning Chinese- they became friends and How showed him all the cool historical spots
Loved Chinese food- like all the Marines, tried to eat at local restaurants instead of the sea rations/gallery/shitty cafeteria food they were given on barracks- honestly I'd do the same. They even recruited a guy who got leave to bring back like boxes of takeout just to avoid the food if they couldn't leave the garrison.
has some beef with rear echelon guys- not unique between combat vets and non-combat guys

the most important thing
(pre-buddie) (862 words) (7x06 spec) what are weddings for, if not completely ignoring the fact that you're in love with your best friend
It’s a glance, at first. And then a longer look, when he’s sure no one’s looking back. It’s the slope of Buck’s shoulders that catches Eddie’s eye.
There’s an ease there that he hasn’t seen before. An ease he’s never really felt himself, either. And a part of him wonders – is it really that simple? He tightens his grip on Marisol’s waist and spins her around, smiles at the high peal of laughter she lets loose into the cool evening air.
Eddie allows his eyes to drift, following the line of Buck’s shoulder down his arm and to his hand. He watches Buck’s thumb pull slowly across Tommy’s jaw, sees the way Tommy’s mouth ticks up into a small smile, like his lips are following the motion.
He drags his eyes away then, feeling like he’s intruding on something.
“Oh, I think I need a minute,” Marisol gasps as the song comes to an end.
“Me too,” Eddie says with a chuckle. “Can I grab you something?” He gestures vaguely towards the refreshments table.
“Some water,” she says, punctuating her request with a soft kiss pressed into the corner of his mouth, “would be wonderful.”
Eddie smiles and fights the ever-present urge to wipe the kiss away. “Water. You got it.”
Buck finds him trying to balance a cookie between two cups and takes it from him with a grin. “You can come back for it, you know?” he asks with a teasing sparkle in his eye.
“You’re just jealous your date’s not bringing you a cookie,” Eddie replies.
Buck’s grin grows even wider. “My date,” he says, “is braving the bar for me.” He tilts his head towards the throng of people crowding around the single bartender.
“Alright,” Eddie laughs, “Tommy wins. You’ve got a better date than Marisol does.”
“Eh, don’t sell yourself short.” Buck bumps his shoulder into Eddie’s, a familiar gesture that makes him feel warm, even on a chilly spring night. “He hasn’t asked me to move in with him yet.”
“Bet he hasn’t asked you to move out, either.” Eddie says wryly.
Buck’s eyebrows shoot up. “You—”
“Yeah,” Eddie interrupts. “But we didn’t—we’re just going to take things a little slower.”
“Slower,” Buck repeats. “Yeah, that’s – that’s probably not a bad thing.”
“I think it’s good,” Eddie says. “I think—I never give myself enough time, you know? Even with Shannon—we hardly knew each other when we first got together, and then—”
“I get it,” Buck says softly, and Eddie knows he does.
“I just need to get to her, really get to know her. I think… I need us to be friends before we can really be something else.”
Buck’s expression changes into one Eddie doesn’t know how to read and he swallows. “Yeah, that’s—friends. It’s a good idea. It’s—that’s the most important thing, isn’t it?” It’s not a rhetorical question, Eddie can tell. It sounds more like some kind of revelation.
Eddie glances over Buck’s shoulder and sees Tommy on his way back, a drink in each hand. He returns his gaze to Buck. “I think it is,” he says softly. He nods in Tommy’s direction, then turns to head back towards Marisol.
He doesn’t remember the cookie until he’s nearly back to her side.
“What were you to talking about?” Marisol asks after taking a long sip of water.
“Just—tonight. The wedding,” Eddie answers, and it almost feels true. He takes a sip of his drink and allows his eyes to wander again.
“I’m glad it all came together,” Marisol says. She takes his hand, and Eddie tries to ignore the way he immediately wants to pull it away.
“Me too,” Eddie replies. “It was touch and go for a minute, there.”
“It’s a good thing you had an extra suit,” Marisol says, playfulness in her voice. “And a brand new one, no less! Did you have a special occasion in mind?”
Eddie grimaces. “I’ve had it for a while, actually. Just, never got around to taking the tags off.”
“Well, I’m glad you finally did. You look wonderful in it.”
“Thanks,” Eddie says. The skin beneath his collar starts to crawl.
Across the dance floor, Eddie watches Buck laugh, then tuck his face into Tommy’s neck. A part of him is jealous, Eddie realizes. Of the easy way they touch, of the comfort that’s settled between them with just a few drinks to aid it on its way. It’s not a feeling he knows, not like that. He’d like to, though. He turns back to Marisol.
“What’s your favorite movie?” he asks.
She furrows her brow. “My favorite movie?”
“We said we were going to take it slower, right?”
Marisol nods. “We did.”
“Well,” Eddie asks, letting go of her hand so he can spread his apart, “what’s slower than a first date question?”
Marisol covers her mouth and laughs. “Fair enough,” she says. “Ask me again.”
Eddie puts his drink down and looks her in the eye. “Marisol,” he asks, “what’s your favorite movie?”
Inexplicably, he finds himself thinking that, if it were Buck sitting here across from him, he wouldn’t have to ask.

collaboration spotlight — Don't Make Me by Malinda
youtube
In all of the fluffy animated fairy tale adaptations that have been made over the past century, it's often been glossed over that the original stories were cautionary tales. Girls were warned and prepared for dealing with potentially abusive husbands. The best case scenario would be reaching a respectful understanding, but sometimes more drastic measures might become necessary. When a girl's patience and forbearance hit their limits, she has every right to fight back in any way she can. Even if it makes others judge her for it.
Details:
title: Don't Make Me
performers: Malinda, feat. Thomas Sanders; Anna Ricks & Valerie Torres-Rosario (ladies-in-waiting); Leo Anderson & Adam Paul (guards)
written & arranged by: Malinda Reese, Hannah Tobias, & Johnny Deltoro
video by: PattyCake Productions
release date: 11 October 2019
My favorite bits:
the cheerful, lilting intro narration
Malinda's sultry humming leading into the first verse
all the visual parallels between the happy wedding flashbacks and the dark aftermath — the goblets, the dip, removing her tiara
♫ "Can I offer you a little salt for that wound?" ♫ sung with such condescension
her delicate, plaintive tone on the first instance of ♫ "Don't make me be the bad guy" ♫
the contrast of the sinister tone of the men plotting over a stick figure drawing
♫ "Your offering's empty, godless, and cold" ♫, oof
the ladies' superhero-style costume change sequence
the muffled filter on the start of the third chorus to allow more focus on the fight scene
matching the timing of the sword strikes with the beat 🤺
Malinda's fabulous descending belted run
the ladies facing down the armed guards with their bare fists
the crunchy counterpoint ♫ "Don't make me be the bad guy" ♫ as the guard is flipped onto the bed
Thomas's scream when he's tossed from the parapet
that final mirror shot showing the bride in white with her innocence stripped away opposite the unrepentant widow in black

Trivia:
This video was filmed at The Howey Mansion, a location PattyCake had used several times for their "Unexpected Musicals" series.
It was co-directed by Malinda and Tony, while Layne served as both cinematographer and editor.
The shoot day spanned about 13 hours, all of which had been carefully storyboarded in advance by Tony and Layne to ensure they got everything they needed as efficiently as possible.

Fight choreographer Danny Cackley had provided plenty of rehearsal for the combatants, as well as pre-visualization footage for the production team.
instagram
The video racked up 200,000 views in just a few days, and Malinda posted a fun behind the scenes video on her Instagram to celebrate.
instagram
The white gown was Malinda's mother's wedding dress, and she was a little surprised that her mom actually trusted her to bring it to Florida and run around a mansion in it.
PattyCake fans might recognize the blonde lady-in-waiting as Anna Ricks, who plays Aurora in their "Princess Academy" series.
Malinda, Hannah, and Johnny also released an acoustic version of the song, which gives it a more introspective feel.

Swan Song, part five

Parts one | two | three | four | five | six | seven (final)
Pairing: Koo Junhoe x Reader (f)
Genres: Writer AU / Drama, Romance, Childhood best friends, Junhoe is a former idol, Friends to lovers
Count: 2692
Warnings: None
Synopsis: After an unexpected encounter with your childhood best friend Junhoe, years after drifting apart, your rekindled friendship blooms anew. However, life takes a turn when he asks you to pen an article for his upcoming wedding. As you become entangled in his personal life, your old feelings of love for him begin resurfacing and the concealed secret behind his decision to abandon his idol career is soon to be unveiled by you.
Monday came, and Yeri held a meeting at the office to inform everyone that Junhoe and Yuna’s interview had been rescheduled for the next day. However, the venue had been changed. Rather than the couple’s house, they requested to conduct the interview at Hongjoong’s studio.
Apparently, they had decided to work exclusively with the magazine’s photographer, (which was Hongjoong himself) for their pre-wedding shoot. Yuna had chosen a minimalist black-and-white editorial concept, opting for something simple yet elegant. She had also agreed to let a few of the photos be used for the interview feature. It was a rare level of trust coming from her, and Yeri seemed both relieved and pleased by the arrangement. It had also been decided that you and Yoshi didn’t need to be there during the shoot or wait around, considering that the day was primarily focused on capturing the couple’s pre-wedding photos. The two of you would only need to arrive at the studio once the shoot was finished to proceed with the interview. With everything falling into place, the plan seemed straightforward.
Anxiety hadn’t left you though, knowing that the last interview hadn’t gone well. You could only hope for the better, that things may go smoothly this time. Junhoe had managed to text you last Saturday—maybe that was a sign that he was now doing alright. You told yourself that you were only there for the interview tomorrow, that it was just work. But you knew well it was more than that. Junhoe wanted to talk and you needed to know what was really going on with him.
You and Yoshi arrived the next day just as the photoshoot wrapped up. The studio buzzed with quiet efficiency, with Hongjoong and his staff packing away the equipment. Noticing the two of you, Ryujin greeted you with a brief smile before motioning to the dressing room. “They’re inside.”
Sensing your unease, Yoshi offered a dose of encouragement before you both approached the room.
“You got this, noona.” His words were simple, but they grounded you. “I’m right here.”
Gratitude shone in your eyes, silently conveying how much you appreciated his words.
Yoshi knocked on the door first, and the dressing room door swung open, revealing the couple. Yuna was casually scrolling through her phone, while Junhoe sat nearby, his hand hovering over a book he had brought, just about to open it. The sight was nothing like what you had expected—a stark contrast to what you had seen at Junhoe’s family home.
Junhoe was draped in a sharp black suit with no tie, the top button of his white polo shirt was left undone. His hair was styled neatly, and his face had the same calm confidence you remembered so well. Yuna, on the other hand, looked effortlessly elegant in a long black halter dress that hugged her figure. Her hair was pulled into an intricate updo, adding to her sophistication. They were nothing short of picture-perfect, as if nothing had ever happened.
“Y/n…” Junhoe’s gaze locked onto yours, and for the first time since everything happened, there was real recognition in his eyes. The haziness was gone.
“Jun…” You tried not to let the relief in your voice show too much, but your heart squeezed at seeing this version of him again—the Junhoe you knew.
Yuna, who was seemingly in a good mood, exchanged pleasantries as well, although her tone still felt rehearsed. “Y/n Yoshi. It’s good to see you both again.”
“Good to see you too.” You kept yours neutral, professional, even if your mind was still trying to process the drastic change.
Tucking away his book, Junhoe moved closer to Yuna and said, “We’re ready whenever you are.”
You and Yoshi looked at each other, exchanging a silent signal that you were both ready to begin the interview. With a subtle nod, Yoshi took out his phone and positioned it carefully to start recording. You settled into your seat across from the couple, pulling out your iPad and tapping it awake. You tried to suppress your emotions, masking them in a laidback and professional manner. You navigated to your notes, where the interview questions awaited, mentally preparing yourself for what was to come. You knew it would be all about their love story and how much Junhoe loved and admired Yuna. It would hurt, but for the sake of your job—and most importantly, for Junhoe and your friendship—you had to face it with grace.
“Alright.” You began, your voice even. “Let’s start from the beginning. How did the two of you first met?”
Junhoe’s face lit up at the question, and you saw a spark return to his eyes—something that hadn’t been there the last time you saw him.
“It was during the script reading for our movie.” He started, his voice brimming with fondness. “The moment I saw Yuna… I knew. Something about her just pulled me in. I fell for her right then and there.” Junhoe glanced at Yuna, a grin tugging at his lips. The memory clearly etched in his mind. “Cliché, but yeah, call it love at first sight.”
“I fell for you later… during the shooting.” Yuna added, clearly flattered by her fiancé’s words. She then addressed the long-standing rumor about them developing feelings on set, “That wasn’t true.” She said looking amused. “Junhoe was already head over heels for me before we even started filming.”
Junhoe chuckled at Yuna’s choice of words. “Head over heels, huh?” He teased, but his expression grew warmer as he admitted, “I guess I can’t argue with that.”
The room filled with easy laughter, and in that moment, everything felt… normal. You delved into more personal questions and threw in some random ones. Junhoe was back to being himself—animated and charming. His responses felt genuine, his humor and warmth filling the space just like he used to. Yuna answered seamlessly, her eyes occasionally darting toward Junhoe as if gauging his reactions.
As the interview wrapped up, Yoshi stopped the recording and stretched a little, looking contented with how smoothly everything had gone. You were packing up your things when Yuna stood up, catching you off guard when she leaned in and gave you a brief side hug.
“Thank you, y/n. I enjoyed our Q and A. You were easy to talk to.” She said, looking delighted—or maybe she was just pretending. You couldn’t tell. She also offered a quick “Thanks” to Yoshi before walking over to Junhoe and placed a light kiss on his lips. “I’ll go ahead, honey. I have some shopping to do.”
“Drive safely.” Junhoe reminded her, watching until she was out of the room.
Junhoe directed his attention to you. “Yeri mentioned that after this interview, you’re free for the rest of the day.”
You had almost forgotten about his text asking to talk. This was it. You weren’t certain if you were ready, but you knew how much you needed answers about that very day.
You blinked, feeling slightly tense. “You talked to Yeri?”
“Yeah,” Junhoe answered with a coy smile. “I asked her if I could borrow your time after the interview, and she agreed. Yuna knows too, so you don’t have to worry.”
You turned to Yoshi, who was giving you a knowing look—one that said, I’ll leave you two alone. “I’ll head back to the office then, noona.”
“Thanks, Yoshi.” You and Junhoe replied in unison.
“Have fun!” Yoshi went his own way, leaving just you and Junhoe in the now-quiet dressing room.
You both thanked Hongjoong’s team as you left the studio, exchanging polite goodbyes. Stepping out into the cool afternoon air, a sudden memory had crossed Junhoe’s mind.
“Do you remember that noodle shop we used to go to after school?”
Your eyes widened slightly. The memories of those carefree days rushing back.
“Yeah?”
“Want to go?”
“Sure!”
To your surprise, Junhoe led you to the bus stop. “We’re taking the bus?” You asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Why not?” Junhoe shrugged casually. “I used to love taking the bus with you. Besides…” He looked around, his face indifferent. “It’s a weekday. Not a lot of people.”
“Jun…” You bit your lip, a little concerned. “What if someone—”
“It’s fine.” He assured you. “I don’t… I don’t care right now.”
And for some reason, you didn’t press further. Maybe it was the way he looked at you—like he was holding on to this moment, like he needed this small slice of normalcy. Besides, he wasn’t making any effort to conceal his identity—not even bothering with a cap, unlike when you saw him at the record store. He stood there, out in the open, completely unbothered by the possibility of being recognized.
The bus arrived a few minutes later, and the the two of you boarded. You were relieved to see only a handful of passengers, most of them too absorbed in their own world to pay attention. Junhoe led you to the back, where the seats were mostly empty. He took the window seat, just like he always used to, with you sitting beside him.
The bus rattled lightly as it moved, the cityscape passing by in a blur. For a while, neither of you spoke. You sat there in silent comfort, the air thick with unspoken memories.
“Feels the same, doesn’t it?” Junhoe murmured, sounding almost wistful.
You glanced at him, and for a brief moment, you saw the boy you used to know—the one who’d sit beside you on these bus rides, talking about dreams that felt so far away back then.
“Yeah.” You whispered. “It does.”
The bus rolled along at a steady pace, the low hum of the engine filling the quiet space between you, when Junhoe spoke again.
“So…” There was playfulness in his voice this time, an edge of curiosity behind it. “Yoshi, huh?”
You blinked, turning your head slightly. “What?”
Junhoe smirked, keeping his gaze on the window, trying not to make a big deal of it. “I think… he likes you.”
“Junhoe…” You sighed, shaking your head with a small laugh. “That’s not true.”
“Come on.” He said, finally looking at you. “I’ve seen the way he looks at you.”
“He’s just… really sweet.” You explained. “Yoshi’s always been like that with everyone. It’s just how he is.”
Junhoe didn’t respond immediately. He glanced down, his fingers tapping lightly against his knee. But when he spoke again, his tone had changed, losing that teasing edge.
“I just…” He paused, his voice quieter now. “I want to see you with someone, y/n. Someone who… takes care of you.”
Your heart leapt, and for a moment, it felt like time slowed down.
“I know you don’t need anyone.” Junhoe added quickly, as he glimpsed back at you. “You’ve always been able to take care of yourself. But…”
His words trailed off, leaving the sentence unfinished. But you understood.
“Thanks for worrying about me, Jun.” You could only say, giving him a lopsided smile.
But in your mind, the words you didn’t say echoed louder. Maybe, in another lifetime… that someone would have been you.
Junhoe didn’t respond, leaving it at that. Before long, the bus came to a stop, and you and Junhoe stepped off, arriving at a small noodle shop situated on an uncrowded street corner.
The place looked almost exactly as you remembered. It had a faded red awning and the same wooden sign hanging above the door. The recognizable scent of rich broth and spices drifted out, instantly tugging at memories of after-school hangouts and laughter-filled conversations. Inside, the layout was unchanged: a few wooden tables lined up neatly, the walls decorated with old photographs of the neighborhood. But behind the counter, instead of the elderly couple who used to run the place, stood a young woman.
“Is that…” You trailed off, squinting slightly.
“Their daughter, I think.” Junhoe answered, his gaze also drifting to the counter.
The woman noticed the two of you as you and Junhoe took seats across from each other at one of the tables. She approached and asked, “What can I get you?”
“Should we get the usual?” Junhoe asked you first, referring to the favorite order you both always shared. You gave him a cheerful nod, doing a small, silent clap that made him chuckle.
“Two bowls of ramen, please.” Junhoe said without hesitation. “The biggest ones you’ve got.”
The woman laughed. “Coming right up!”
You sat in quiet anticipation, the scent of simmering broth filling the air as you and Junhoe waited for your order. The silence stretched between you, almost as if you were both testing the waters, waiting to see who would break it first. Your gaze wandered outside the window past where Junhoe was sitting, but before the quiet could stretch any further, Junhoe’s voice gently pulled you back.
“Y/n…”
He was the first to speak.
Your eyes lifted, finding his. He looked hesitant, vulnerable.
“I want to apologize… for how I’ve been treating you.” He muttered. “For all those times I pushed you away.”
You swallowed, your heart tightening at the sincerity in his tone. “Junhoe…”
“I don’t know why I kept doing that.” He continued, sounding frustrated. “Maybe… I just didn’t want you to worry. I-I didn’t want to burden you with everything going on.”
You exhaled slowly, eyes fixed on him. “I know I’ve been out of your life for a long time.” You said with honesty. “But I’m still the same friend you’ve always had. I’d be more worried if you shut me out completely… if you don’t trust me enough to tell me what’s really going on.”
“It’s not that I don’t trust you…” Junhoe avoided your gaze, but you didn’t waver.“That day at my house… what you saw… I wasn’t—” He stopped, struggling to find the right words.
“I wasn’t… okay.” He admitted. “The disorientation… it’s a side effect.”
“Side effect?” You repeated, your brows knitting together.
Junhoe nodded and continued, “Of the medication I’m taking. For my muscles.”
“Muscles?”
He leaned back, running a hand through his hair. “It’s… something that happened because of years of pushing my body too hard. During my idol days, then acting… the exhaustion caught up with me.”
Your heart sank, processing it all at once.
“Look, it’s not always that bad,” Junhoe added, trying to sound hopeful. “I missed taking the counter medication for the stronger one… that’s why it messed me up. You just caught me at a really bad time.”
Your mind spun, thoughts colliding faster than you could make sense of them. Junhoe’s words echoed in your head, sending a wave of sadness through you, but you couldn’t say anything back. Tears welled in your eyes, but you blinked them away, not wanting to break down in front of him.
Junhoe caught it. “Hey…” His voice was tender, almost soothing. He reached across the table, his hand brushing against yours. “Don’t cry, okay?”
You swallowed hard, trying to compose yourself. “I just… I’m sorry you’re going through this, Jun.”
“You’re so silly.” He tittered, his thumb grazing your knuckles. “It’s not that serious. I’ve got this.”
“I’ll be fine,” He reassured you. “I’m managing it. And…” He took a deep breath, his expression warming. “From now on, I’ll be better. I’ll be a better friend to you, y/n. I promise.”
You sniffled, quickly wiping at your eyes before forcing a small grin. “You’d better.” You mumbled, trying to lighten the mood.
A faint, almost relieved smile crossed his lips, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
“Just… don’t tell the guys, okay?” Junhoe pleaded. “I don’t want them worrying too. This… stays between us.”
You nodded, fighting to keep the tightness out of your throat. “I won’t.”
“Yuna knows too, but that’s it.”
In that moment, you couldn’t help but wonder if Junhoe had told you everything—or if there was still more left unsaid. Your gut told you something was missing, that not all your questions felt answered. But with your emotions in turmoil, it was hard to make sense of it all. Right now, he needed you to believe him.
And for now… that was all you could do.

20 Questions For Fic Writers
thank you @garglyswoof and @stars-and-darkness for tagging me!
How many works do you have on ao3?
12, though 2 of those are moodboards so don't really count.
2. What's your total ao3 word count?
553,036. Huh. Lower than I expected. No doubt that will shoot up when the tbbw rewrite is done [fake laughter, hiding real pain]
3. What fandoms do you write for?
TVD, TO a.k.a Klaroline
4. Top five fics by kudos:
The Big Bad Wolf, Into Eternity, The Little Wolf, The Red Wedding and Falling For You.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I try to respond to every one as I love talking with readers. I figure if someone spends time to write a comment, I'll return the favour and reply. In fact when I'm updating fics regularly, if my reply to your comment turns up in your inbox it's often a pre-warning that a new chapter is about to drop, as I read over comments I've missed before updating.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Does Damon murder count? [I don't really do angsty endings, I need my happily ever after]
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Into Eternity. It's really sappy and makes me feel all warm and gooey inside. What can I say - I'm a romantic at heart.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Yes, kinda. Is it hate if it's just wild interpretations of the characters or plot? Some people leave comments that just make you blink repeatedly and think...are they reading the same fic I'm writing? I remember one time someone left a comment calling Caroline a pushover (honestly had some kind of vendetta against her showing ANY kind of emotion like okaaaaay mate) even though in that very same chapter...she literally kicked Klaus is the balls. Man, that was a weird day.
9. Do you write smut?
No. Not yet. In the future? There may or may not be scenes planned. 😏 I'm picky with smut, I need feelings and the eMoTiOnS, I need to be INVESTED. Porn with plot, rather than just smut for smut's sake.
10. Craziest crossover:
Haven't written a crossover - unless intending to drop Dracula into tbbw at some point coints. There's some great ones in the fandom though, just not really my thing.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of [narrows eyes]
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No! But I'd be flattered if one ever was, as long as its translated on ao3 and given credit to me.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I haven't. I might be open to it though, if it was a round-robin kind of thing where the writers take in turns to write the scenes.
14. All time favorite ship?
KLAROLINE!!! NOW LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!!!
15. What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I really want to finish Divided We Fall, Falling For You and Songs of the Sea. I wouldn't say I doubt I'll ever finish them, just that I doubt I'll finish them while I'm still writing the tbbw series. Too much of the klaroline brain rot is invested in that fic alone.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I've been told it's shifting between moods? So I can give readers whiplash in the emotions department - one minute you're crying, the next you're laughing. I like to think my strength is dialogue though. Even the way I write is focused around it.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Historical accuracy. I'll fall down a rabbit hole researching stuff like any writer, but the researching is more out of obligation and crippling writer guilt rather than actual enjoyment. Which is why I often take creative licence and go fuck it, history has its own au now bitches (sorry ella).
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
If its little words here and there - even a sentence or two - yes. Full conversations though unless you're fluent yourself are not fun to sift through.
19. First fandom you wrote in?
Star Wars? I want to say Star Wars. Idk those fanfics are over on my ffnet account which I will not be going back to anytime soon. I dare not go where the light doesn't touch, Mufasa speaks wisely.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
It used to be The Red Wedding but I actually love The Little Wolf more now. That one's a true labour of love, fueled on rage and spite, curtesy of Julie Plec.

A celebration is about to happen on Tracy island, one like no other.
@thunder-pride
Today was unlike any other, the island was bustling, and for once in a good way. As Jeff sat on the balcony, watching his sons messing around on the beach, he smiled, it was rare to see them so carefree but it didn't stop the butterflies in his stomach, he didn't think he would be so nervous a second time, heck he didn't think he would be having a second one. He looked at the clock, 12:47pm.
'Probably should get ready.' He stood up and walked to the mirror in his bedroom. 'Wouldn't want to be late to my own wedding.'
Jeff smiled, he had said it for months, his wedding, but today was the day. He changed into his floral button up shirt, one that matched his soon to be husband's attire, and cream trousers. He stared at his reflection, was it enough? Was he enough?
There was a knock at the door followed by a quiet 'Dad…'
'Come in.'
The door opened revealing Alan, his youngest.
'It's time.'
Jeff took a deep breath then stood up and walked slowly towards the door, apparently Alan thought it too slow and grabbed his arm and began to drag him down the stairs and outside.
He wasn't sure what blinded him, the sun or the array of bright flowers down the homemade aisle, clearly Tintin's work, she definitely knew a lot of her father's tricks when it came to flowers. He was so in awe of the decor he didn't even notice his mother sneak up behind him.
'You ready?'
'Well there's no going back now.'
Alan smiled at his dad one more time before joining the rest of the family on the benches, which were also covered in flowers, as well as his sons, as Alan sat down Scott had placed a clunky flower crown on his little brothers head, they all matched… in fact most of them did, everyone had one on bar him and Kyrano. He smiled and then finally turned his head to look down the aisle, he could see Kyrano stood with Tintin, he was turned away and Tintin looked like she was calming him down, glad to know he wasn't the only nervous one. Jeff made eye contact with Tintin and she immediately spun her father around. Kyrano immediately looked up and saw Jeff and smiled. Kyrano was wearing a traditional Malaysian outfit, partially pre owned parts mixed with newer elements. The fabric around the man's waist matched Jeff's shirt, a genius idea from Tintin.
Jeff felt a tug on his arm, it seemed like he was getting tugged around a lot today, it was his mother.
'Come on then.' she smiled.
Jeff watched her wave her arm towards the previously unseen Virgil, who was sitting at the piano that had somehow been moved outside without him noticing. Virgil nodded before beginning to play the piano, it wasn't the usual wedding song though, Jeff couldn't put his finger on it, it was only later he found out it was a slowed down piano version of 'Shooting star'.
Grandma and Jeff began to walk down the aisle, it was a relatively short aisle but it was enough, he looked at all the smiling faces of his sons, Brains, Tintin and even Braman had turned up, he didn't think Braman cared about this kind of stuff, then looked forward, to the smiling face of Kyrano.
As the men got closer together their smiles widened. Grandma kissed Jeff's cheek before letting go of his arm and letting him step towards Kyrano and hold his hands. The two men stared into each other's eyes, their love for each other growing by the second, it was their day, surrounded by the people he loved.
This day was perfect, and if this is how his new future starts, the future is going to be amazing.
