Dr. Motte im Gespräch mit Schallwandler Podcast

Noch bevor Techno die Tanzflächen der Welt eroberte, stand Dr. Motte als DJ hinter den Turntables. Auf der Suche nach neuen musikalischen Erfahrungen tauschte der Autodidakt 1985 Schlagzeug und Sticks gegen Vinyls und Plattenspieler. In seinem eigenen Club Turbine Rosenheim entwickelte er schon früh seinen Stil des Mixings, für den er aus einem umfangreichen Repertoire aus Jazz, Punk, Funk, Soul, Disco und EBM schöpfte. Wie kaum ein anderer schaffte er es, all diese Genres miteinander zu verknüpfen. In der Turbine Rosenheim veranstaltete er, nur zwei Jahre später, die ersten Acid House Partys in Berlin.

Dr. Motte ist Mitgründer des Kultlabels Space Teddy Recordings, auf dem er 1992 erstmalig unter dem Namen Dr. Mottes Euphorhythm sein erstes Album Chill Out Planet Earth veröffentlichte. Im selben Jahr erschien auf Tresor Records eine weitere Platte, durch die dem Berliner Techno endlich auch der internationale Durchbruch gelang und die bis heute als eine der wichtigsten Scheiben dieser Zeit gilt: 3Phase feat. Dr. Motte – Der Klang der Familie. Dieser erfolgreichen Kooperation folgten noch viele weitere, unter anderem mit Robert Babicz, Gabriel Le Mar, Tom Wax, Westbam, Namito, 3 Phase, Johnny Klimek, Paul Browse, Marc Van Linden, DJ Dag und vielen mehr. Kaum ein Mensch hat die elektronische Musikszene so entscheidend geprägt und verändert wie Dr. Motte. Er gilt als der Vater der Loveparade und ist auch heute noch ein  Botschafter der elektronischen Musik weltweit. Sein Sound ist energetisch und vielschichtig. In seinen DJ-Sets verbindet Dr. Motte Acid mit treibendem Techno und nimmt sein Publikum mit auf spannenden Trips durch seinen Kosmos.

Als „Forscher“ auf der ständigen Suche nach neuem Sound gründete Dr. Motte 2010 sein Plattenlabel PRAXXIZ. Kompromisslos präsentiert er darauf in unregelmäßigen Abständen Musik, die seinen persönlichen Geschmack und sein Verständnis für qualitativ hochwertige elektronische Musik widerspiegelt.  2015 feierte Dr. Motte sein 30-jähriges DJ-Jubiläum mit einer internationalen Tour unter dem Motto der ersten Loveparade: “Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen. - 30 Years Of Dr. Motte”. Ehe Dr. Motte mit Musikproduktionen und Remixen erfolgreich wurde, hatte er 1989 im Jahr des Berliner Mauerfalls eine Idee in die Tat umgesetzt, die ein neues Kapitel in der Musikgeschichte schreiben sollte: eine Demonstration zur Darstellung der Gegenwartskultur der elektronischen Tanzmusik namens Loveparade.

Dr. Motte gehört zu den Menschen, die Berlin zu einer Party-Hauptstadt mit Weltruf gemacht haben. Er ist Musiker, DJ und Labelbetreiber. Dr. Motte, alias Matthias Roeingh, hat die Loveparade erfunden vor genau 30 Jahren.

Am 1.7.1989 fand die Loveparade erstmals in Berlin statt und war als politische Demonstration für „Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen“ angemeldet worden. Die Idee dazu hatte Dr. Motte sechs Wochen zuvor, am Morgen vor einer Party-Location in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Nachdem ihm Bekannte von illegalen Raves in England erzählt hatten und wie die Gäste nach deren Auflösung durch die Polizei einfach auf der Straße weitergetanzt hatten, war Dr. Motte inspiriert von diesem Bild. Er überlegte, wie dieser Spirit in Berlin Ausdruck finden könnte. Schließlich kam ihm die Idee, eine Demonstration anzumelden. Was anfangs nur ein gemeinsames Tanzen auf der Straße sein sollte, wurde schnell politisch, als für die Anmeldung ein Demonstrationsgrund nötig wurde. Und so beschloss man eine Demonstration für „Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen“ durchzuführen. Dabei stand „Friede“ für Abrüstung, „Freude“ für Musik als Mittel der Völkerverständigung und „Eierkuchen“ für eine gerechte Nahrungsmittelverteilung.

Kay Barton - MacroGod (Emerald & Doreen Records)

After the well-received “Return 01” for the Bonzai label, Kay Barton returns with the MacroGod EP on Emerald & Doreen Records. The North German producer started DJ’ing in 1997 after a several years in the studio and followed the rapidly developing techno scene in Germany and abroad. Eventually, Kay worked for a record label some radio stations, and regularly hosted numerous events dedicated to electronic music in different locations around the Rhine-Main area. After releases under different artist names Kay now focuses on straight techno and tech house under his given name, Kay Barton. With the MacroGod EP, Kay combines rough sawtooth sounds and TB-303 waves and rounds things out with four-to-the-floor techno beats. Besides the two original mixes of “Oh God“ and “Macrowave“ the EP features a remix each from Berlin’s techno godfathers, Dr. Motte and Mijk van Dijk. Dr. Motte — founder of legendary Love Parade in Berlin and as well as the Praxxiz label — has countless projects and releases during the past 30 years. He’s shaped an entire culture as an ambassador for electronic music worldwide. His remix of “Macrowave” is a straight-up sexy techno underground track featuring the 303 from the original mix as its main element. Mijk van Dijk's history also reaches nearly 30 years. As a DJ and live under the name Microglobe, he’s performed at countless clubs and events all over the world and is an important part of the electronic music movement. With his version of "Oh God" van Dijk takes the dance floor into a world of synth melodies and his own distinctive sonic character.
