Yes yes you’re right! I visited Kyoto a few years ago and it held such an impression on me. I would love to go back and spend a month (or more) there and just live in the culture and the beauty of the old and new existing together. There’s something beautiful about that city that I can’t explain.

So I have been sitting on this post for like a thousand years (since the winter holidays I think?) and I had been meaning to make a post but this semester I have my regular job and I’m teaching a grad class and it’s just a big ol’ mess.

So now, that the world is having a pandemic... I have time for things. The irony.

So I bought this delightful little painting of a certain fishman from @thegothicalice​, and I wanted to put it in a frame because I have all these tiny frames I bought with the intention of putting art in, and hadn’t found any small art up until that point.

I’ve always loved the Regency/Victorian/whatever look of having many frames close together, and since I only had a small space in this portion of my room, I went with small frames.

So I obviously, then, needed small art.

So I saw the fishman painting and bought it:

hooo... that fishman... *fans self*

And... of course, the frame I wanted to put it in, it didn’t fit.

The painting fit height-wise, but was too small width-wise.

So I cut out a piece of cardboard to surround the painting, painted it black so it blended in, and put it inside the frame. I made the cutout the same texture of the painting by painting nail polish on it to make it glossy, and then I cut out ano oval to put behind the two pieces and hold them in, and painted that a matte black to help hide the seam between the two paintings.

Then, I put it together inside the frame. I had to trim the cardboard a bit because the painting isn’t totally flat, but I put all the pieces together and now it looks as if it’s one piece.

you can see the seam here because the light is reflecting off of it, but when it’s hung up, you can’t

Hey everyone, I've been neglecting this account for so long, I'm so sorry. Admittedly, I've been getting more commission work and business from Instagram and Twitter lately so a lot of my focus has been there but no more!! I miss this community and will try to keep up more of a presence here from now on!
