I am on my way to a community choir event for the cabaret festival and I am extremely nervous as it’s the first time I’ve been in a choir for some time. So I’m making my psych proud (and also taking a leaf out of the book I’ll be using on students one day) and writing it down:

Activity: singing in a choir

How I’m feeling: very, very nervous (and also excited but nerves are winning)

What I’m worried is going to happen: o sound terrible and everyone is uncomfortable standing next to me, and/or everyone thinks I dress like a dork. Or I get really dizzy or upset while singing and have to stop and embarrass myself

What’s the worst possible thing that could happen: there could a huge earthquake and the ceiling could collapse in on top of us

What’s the best possible thing that could happen: I suddenly have an amazing voice and blend perfectly with the choir and sing so well everyone is dazed

What’s most likely to happen: I will be a bit rusty singing in a choir and take some time finding my feet. Maybe I won’t be great but it won’t be a disaster. My pots will probably be triggered a bit because of the nature of the activity, but I have water and salt, and I know how to manage it. Also people won’t pay that much attention to me, and if they do they won’t be immediately thinking I dress like I dork - and if they do they will keep it themselves

My goal for the activity: enjoy singing in a choir again finally, and learn new things (vocal stuff, how my pots will react etc)

I’ll come back after and review these notes and write what happened

ive been feeling very melancholy recently about how homestuck stuff falls into this like. pit of shame for people. and so many people who made homestuck art or fic or videos or what-have-you deleted all of it, or refuse to acknowledge it, and every year it gets easier for everyone to forget that there was anything good, to brush it all off as- as vriscourse and grey markers and the folly of youth.

No. There was joy here, once upon a time. The air around us was once awash with love and creativity. The internet under late capitalism is already such an imperfect medium- Why should we let shame and cringe raise a body count that is already too high?

To answer your question, i went into MY blog archive, searched up homestuck, found a fanart i reblogged in 2017, opened the OP' 's homestuck tag, and this was there. And i thought "ha! funny!" and clicked like (i would have reblogged it but its 2.5 months til 4/13, when it would have been funny on its own). Your old post sparked joy in me, and I hope being reminded of it sparked a little in you. Thank you for making it.

Thank you! I had an idea for this and then @enjoythesilentworld posted this about jealous roommates in denial, which inspired me! With their permission I'm placing this in that universe.

"We're more than just roommates, you know," Wille says, following Emil's gaze across the party to where Simon is giggling over the foosball table, fighting Rosh for the ball.

"Oh yeah?" Emil asks, distractedly, his beer bottle hovering near his lips, half-forgotten as he watches Simon. Wille understands, and empathizes, but that's the extent of his warm feeling towards this guy who's been flirting with Simon all night.

"Yeah. Just in case there was any confusion. Wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea." He swirls his own drink, tosses the rest of it back, sets it down sharply. "Simon's not available."

An hour later, maybe more, Simon finds him in one of the dark crowded hallways of this maze of a house.

"You have to stop telling people we're together!" Simon shouts, his hand circling Wille's wrist to draw him closer so they can hear each other over the music. His thumb presses into the meat of Wille's palm and Wille's fingers curl instinctively around it. "We're roommates."

"We're not just roommates," Wille insists stubbornly.

"It was one time--"

"Three times." They've had variations on this argument before.

"And unless you want to put your money where your mouth is, it's only going to stay one time."

That effectively shoves Wille's snarky response back down his throat. Simon's thumbnail is digging into Wille's palm, and in the dim hallway he can't tell if Simon's hooded eyes are looking down at his lips.

I see people are making the rounds to stop the growing enthusiasm for the show. I get it.

Seeing Green's posts (via tumblr, since I don’t have twitter or X or wtv the fuck it’s called today) admittedly made me wince. I don’t agree with or support his views. I also feel their dissonance with the show’s blunt criticism of colonialism.

But.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t actually agree that condemning a show that has been made by a HUGE team of people, who are most certainly as diverse in their political beliefs as in their cultural backgrounds, because of one person’s few posts on social media is entirely fair or fitting.

Yes, he’s one of the creators, sure, his name is slapped onto the lid, but the show is not him. A show is never one person. AND I’m a Death of The Author believer besides, so. There’s that. 

So I for one will keep on celebrating the show and what it stands for and the themes it explores, because I feel it’s important to have them out there. While also disagreeing with one of its creators’ views. After much thought, I’m comfortable with that complication. You, and many others, may not be. Which is fair. And I urge you to block the tag or unfollow me if the distinction makes you uneasy.

I think it doesn't get acknowledged enough how difficult or even impossible it is for an expert to teach first steps in certain skills. I could teach someone the five most important linux cli commands but I can't for the life of me remember what patterns of thinking I encountered when I first started using linux. And those, along with the mistakes and unexpected aha! moments are arguably way more important.

so update that knowledge base and write that blogpost. Don't wait until you're more skilled
