And Shanks would love and hate zoro at the same time !
He would disapprove from the very start because cute innocent luffy is his B A B Y how dare this rando arrogant punk show up an corrupt Shank's lil babie boy.
That's because the only true memories shanks has of luffy is when he was a snot-nosed lil kid that was so full of innocent optimism and joy. A dumb brat that would cut themselves in their cheek.
And also, luffy was the cutest ever and shanks still has the protectiveness left over when luffy was not strong enough to defend himself.
That protectivesess comes out full force when shanks realises that cute lil kid got a big dumb jock boyfriend that had nothing but air for brains. How can this zoro guy ever be good enough for luffy?!?!
That green kid was dumb and reckless and seemed absolutely not to be trusted, never smiling with his ridiculous stoic frown. What a loser!
...
But after getting to know zoro he has to somwhat admit a little respect.
At least zoro prioritises luffy in everything and is obviously dangerously devoted to luffy. And while less strong in zoro, having conqueror's haki is the least shanks would expect of luffy's partner.
He also can't help and approve of zoro's determination and unrelenting stubbornness when it comes to his goals and protecting what he loves.
Also, shanks always liked dumb kids with big dreams and that snot-haired kid really reminded him of mihawk in a way and he couldn't be too angry at him when he, yet again, got lost.
And zoro could keep up with him and the crew when it came to drinking and it was fun not immediately winning at a drinking game.
.
But still. Zoro might be an alright fella all in all, but goddammit if he touches his Son inappropriately again he'll be dead. That arrogant little sword-brat with too many chips on his shoulder, will not defile luffy! Not if shanks has any say in it.
I just know Dragon would approve of Zoro.
A man that could talk some sense to his son, but also is his number one supporter; someone who does whatever Luffy needs without hesitation. And most importantly? A man that is ready to die for Luffy at the cost of everything.
#ramblings#thsi is so fun to think about#layed back shanks turns out to be surprisingly protective#i would be if my lil baby son that i haven't seen in 12 years shows up with a buff punk#it would be a hilarious lil fic#it's also fun to have ace and sabo be the overprotective brothers#but i feel like zoro would be a bit more nervous to prove himself worthy in front of shanks#luffy has been talking about that guy for years#practically mooning for his childhood crush#zoro needed shanks approval bc while luffy wouldn't give a shit abt his brother's opinions#he definitely would listen to shanks if he told him zoro wasn't worth it#so zoro was sweating the whole time he met the red hair pirated#zoro#luffy#shanks#op headcanons

You'd loved Lee Felix since the day you met him.
Of course, your brain had always convinced you that he was unattainable. You weren't without status, so to speak - your mother was famously known as the Queen's lady-in-waiting, and it was through her job that you'd had the pleasure of meeting the two princes, Felix and his elder brother Chris. You and Felix had clicked instantly. You had no other siblings yourself, and your father had died in the army when you were a baby, leaving your mother widowed and you without one of your intended parental figures.
Felix had taken that all in his stride, though. The day he met you he stumbled up to you with the grace of Bambi's first movement on ice, all short chubby limbs flailing everywhere and eyes formed in crescent moons with the size of his smile. Chris had taken less interest in you. Although polite, he was three years older than the both of you and already had his own group of friends, but you and Felix hadn't even started formal education yet - and you were inseparable as soon as you met. You were enchanted by him, he had been your first crush, and your first love once you were old enough to understand what that was.
You began your life as a shy, timid little girl, just as clumsy as your best friend. Your knobbly knees were always bruised and scarred, peeking out from the tops of your white knee socks and covered in whatever bandages Felix could find to wrap around you. Felix had brought you out of your shell, introduced you to some of his other 'friends' - at the start, they were just kids with similar status to him, but they really did form a tight knit group eventually. Now, you were known to always be by the side of Felix and his group, getting up to whatever secret debauchery you could manage that wouldn't risk any of your positions in society. Your mother, thankfully, had turned a blind eye to most of it, and the Queen was always too occupied to notice.
When you were younger, you and Felix loved to go out gallivanting. You'd stumble to the nearest beach, bags of towels and books in your canvas bags and giggle as you threw them on the sand. You had some form of an unofficial book club, just the two of you. You saw him practically all day everyday, but you'd both discussed and had decided to designate a Saturday afternoon to discuss whatever books you'd found in the extensive palace library and you both avoided any and all kinds of book talk on any other day in the week. The beach had become your place to gush over whatever literature had caught your attention, with the calming waves of the sea crashing behind you and the tweeting of whatever birds had made an appearance that day.
Now, though, you were both of age. You were both twenty one, and that meant that marriage was around the corner for Felix. He'd been so busy lately, you'd barely had the chance to see him. You took upon completing mundane tasks of your own, helping your mother with anything the Queen asked for (much to her polite gratitude, but she definitely knew why you were sulking around), and sometimes you even helped the cooks make food for the whole palace. Felix had teased you relentlessly once he'd seen you in your white frilly apron and you'd had to chase him out of the kitchen with a wooden spoon.
It was weird not having your best friend around so much. Chris was already married, being the heir to the throne, despite the fact there were rumours he would abdicate to Felix. Felix hadn't told you anything about that, and you were sure he would have. Even Chris leaving had left a hole in your heart - no more seeing his muscly eye-candy group of friends around. Well, they still showed up uninvited sometimes. You were pretty sure Changbin and Jisung were never actually invited, not even by Chris, but they lingered around him like they were his little brothers, too.
"Hey, you've been making that daisy chain for like, twenty years," A familiar giggle chimed from above you, and you looked up. Ah yes, your Prince. You'd gotten so lost in memories that you'd been wasting a Saturday afternoon with him. Fuck, you're such an idiot. Felix was looking down at you in your position in his lap, your head nestled on top of his crossed legs in the dress slacks he was supposed to wear everyday. He was wearing a white silk shirt on top of it, billowing in the summer breeze, but the top two buttons were still undone due to the heat of the sun. The summer always made your Prince's freckles shine more on his tan skin, the fawn dots even extending to the exposed skin on his chest. Needless to say, you waited impatiently for the hot season to come around every year. His teeth were gleaming in his smile, radiating sunshine and the gleam bouncing off of the bleach blonde mullet he'd managed to convince his mother to let him have.
You had to deflect. He couldn't know you were upset at not seeing him, although you were nearly certain he must have worked it out already. You shrugged dismissively, looking back at the daisy chain in your hands. Your thumbnails were stained with green from the plant stems, but you were still determined to finish it. You were making it for him, as a crown, because you knew he'd keep it until the flowers wilted, and then he'd get the flowers pressed and he'd put them in his scrapbook. He was such a good friend. His scrapbook was full of mementos of the two of you, even sometimes extending to the whole group - you and Felix, your friends, and Chris and his friends. It was mostly full of just the two of you, though.
"Sorry, Lixie. I guess I'm not all there today. Sorry," You mumbled. "What were you saying?"
"I was saying about Rochester and how he's a possessive asshole- no, you know what, that's not important. What's on your mind, sugarplum?" The cheesy nickname worked exactly how he intended it to, making you giggle and your cheeks burn with embarrassment. You nudged his tummy softly with your elbow, the silk brushing against your skin and making goosebumps rise on your arms. Felix dog-eared the page of the book that he was reading from and shut it softly, placing it beside you both. It was one habit of Felix's that you absolutely hated - like, how could he sleep with a clear conscience knowing that he had creased the delicate pages of so many classics? You'd given him so many bookmarks over the years, even personalised ones that you'd crafted in your spare time with both of your names on, but he always lost them or claimed he'd forgotten them in your book club outings. He leaned back on his palms, smiling down at you fondly. You shifted, turning slightly to see him better. You felt the soft cotton of the navy and white plaid picnic blanket brush against the bottom of your bare legs. You weren't really allowed to wear short skirts, or low cut tops, but on a summer's day like this you were permitted to wear a knee length skirt, so long as it was a thick fabric. Nothing too revealing was allowed.
You hummed in response to him, finding him still staring at you. "You want me to be honest, Pixie?"
Felix giggled at his own cheesy nickname, then nodded eagerly, strands of hair falling over his face before he pushed them back. His forehead had a thin sheen of sweat adorning it. "I always want you to be honest with me."
You ignored the butterflies causing a storm in your stomach over the statement. He was so understanding, so sweet - he always had been, like when he would bandage up your scraped knees or comfort you when something went wrong in your favourite TV show. He was even understanding during one of your many nights of debauchery, when you'd all been playing Seven Minutes in Heaven like the horny teenagers you were and you'd been picked to go in with Felix. You'd been bright red, stuttering and giggling nervously about how you'd never had your first kiss and Felix understood, rubbing your arm softly with his dainty hand and insisting you didn't have to do anything that you weren't ready for. You were so embarrassed, but he made you feel so at ease, and you'd both sat in the storage closet and gossiped about Chris instead.
That was the moment you'd fallen in love with him, you think. You were fifteen.
"I'm worried," You admitted, finally letting the flower chain drop from your fingertips and onto your tummy. Felix instantly shot up. His smile had fallen, and he was now looking at you with a concerned look, brushing hair back from your face and tucking it behind your ear. The butterflies started fluttering even faster, if it was possible. You looked up into his brown eyes, and you looked at his freckles, thinking about the many times you'd tried to count every single one. This was your best friend. This was the love of your life. Your Prince, as you affectionately called him in your head. You could be honest with him. If you couldn't, who could you be truthful with? "I'm worried because I know you're getting married soon. We barely see each other as it is anymore, and I miss you, to be honest. It will be soon, won't it?"
Felix hummed. He nodded thoughtfully, eyes drifting to the daisy chain on your tummy. You saw a small smile at the end of his lips as his fingers brushed over it. He knew it was for him. He'd made you many over the years, too, and you'd kept them in your own scrapbook, despite it being much emptier than his. "It will be soon. My mother is picking the right candidate at the moment. But..."
You furrowed your eyebrows. He hadn't looked back at you, still gazing at the daisy chain and beginning to rub reassuring circles on your side. "... But?"
The smile finally formed on his lips. "You do realise you're her top option, right?"
You shot up from his lap, eyes widening. Felix bit his lip, holding in a laugh. He was laughing at you, that bastard, but it did make sense. You were the Queen's favourite, and she knew how close you and Felix were. She wasn't a nasty or a ruthless Queen. She was a people person, she always donated money to charity and the homeless rating in your country was literally almost zero. She'd done so much for people since she was in power, and she never cared about status - not that it had ever affected you, but she did treat everyone as her equals. She was like Felix in that way, a sweetheart, and she always permitted you and Felix to go on journeys wherever you wanted, so long as you kept safe and there was a guard in the area, just in case. There was one in the meadow with you now, but you couldn't even see them from where you were sitting. She was just... so cool, down to earth. She understood what it was like to be young, within reason.
You were flustered. Your brain had instantly gone to thinking of getting married to Felix, spending nights with him but not in the way you used to, and even... Well, you had to consummate the marriage, didn't you? You were extremely inexperienced in that department, save for a few drunken childish kisses with Chris' friend Changbin when you were just a bit younger, but you still found your mind racing and going through your deepest, darkest fantasies. Fantasies that you would never entertain outside of shoving a hand down your underwear in your bed at night and whining into the satin pillows. You had to hide that you were thinking about that, what the fuck is wrong with you? Time to deflect.
"Well, she does love me," You said boldly. Felix shook his head, punching you in the arm, perhaps a bit harder than he meant to because you let out a hiss and punched him back too hard, in the leg. His smile dropped, groaning and grabbing the spot on his shin where you'd hit him. "But, would you be okay with that, Lixie? It's... me. We'd be like... you know."
"Married? Well, yeah," Felix laughed, still holding his leg. You sighed, giving him a flat look. You needed to keep yourself occupied, so you picked up the daisy chain on the blanket and started to fiddle with it again, threading it through with nimble fingers. Felix finally let go of his leg, throwing himself onto his side so he was lying down on the blanket and facing you. He'd started to fiddle with the cover of the book. Another thing you were getting prepared to tell him off about. "I know what you mean. Honestly, though? I can't think of anyone better to do it with," You felt yourself suppressing a smile at his words, said lowly in that deep voice of his. Everytime he said something like that, your brain instantly went to shit, he liked me back, and you couldn't have that showing on your face when you knew deep down that wasn't the truth. He was unattainable- no, wait, now he wasn't that unattainable, now that you've actually stopped being angsty and depressing and actually thought about it. "I mean, you are my best friend, sugarplum."
You let out a fake laugh at his use of that stupid nickname again, and it seemed to placate him. Best friend. Yeah. Because one thing you hadn't thought about during your insane train of thought, one thing you had always considered and had been the main factor in not confessing to him, was that you couldn't risk ruining the friendship you had built up with him for sixteen years.
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
Unattainable. He was unattainable. You felt yourself mulling over that thought over and over as you paced in your bedchambers, in your silly Disney pyjamas that now barely fit you and you would never let anyone see. You had no one you could even talk to about this. It was clearly royal intel, secret information, and the only person you could have possibly talked to now never comes around anymore because Chris decided to get fucking married and now spends most of his time boning his wife for an heir. Or just because he likes boning her, you weren't sure, but Felix told you that he'd heard enough through the walls to know that boning was definitely occuring every night. Anyway, Changbin wasn't around much anymore, and he was your top confidant - bar Felix.
You liked living in the palace, but would you like living there as a Princess? Well, fuck yeah, obviously. It was like something out of The Princess Diaries, one of your favourite films which you and Felix had watched over and over. He hated it. You had a good, solid reputation. You were a high member of society due to your mother's job, and you and your mother were even placed on the royal side of the palace for your living quarters. You had a massive bedroom, an extravagant en suite with a relaxing bathtub and a sitting room with a huge TV that you and your mother always curled up in front of. How could it even get any better? You had seen Felix's room, when you were younger, but it kind of became unspokenly forbidden when you got to your teenage years, lest something gets out of hand. You understood it, actually. You'd been going through enough hormones to know that you had definitely come dangerously close to propositioning him a few times.
You had propositioned Changbin, obviously. You two had your first kisses together, and also a few drunken kisses, but you'd ended up as just friends. He was probably the only one who knew about your feelings for Felix, and he admitted you weren't his type anyway. You were sure he was in love with Felix's friend, Hyunjin, but you never commented on the way he looked at Hyunjin like he'd hung the stars in the sky. You couldn't really say anything either, knowing full well that you looked at Felix the same.
You needed to speak to Changbin. The unbearable amount of anxiety at not knowing was mounting in you. But it hit you, then, in the middle of your pacing and chewing on your thumbnail. You looked at the copy of Jane Eyre that Felix had given you, placed on your bed. Your mother knew. She had to have known you were a choice, surely, and she hadn't even told you?
You shook your head, resuming pacing. You couldn't blame her. Felix wasn't even meant to tell you. It made sense, though - you'd received pretty much the same education as a royal, and you and Felix were inseparable. You knew you had the etiquette, the social skills (thanks to Felix). You were pretty much a Princess without being a Princess. It had to be you, right?
Did you want it to be you?
You threw yourself onto your bed, wrapping the soft pillow around your head and screaming incoherently into the fabric. It didn't help. Who were the other choices? You thought of other girls who lingered around the palace, ones that had definitely had crushes on your Prince growing up and had given him fleeting glances with blushed cheeks and an agape mouth. None of their names even came to mind. Maybe a Princess from another country, for a marriage of creating alliances? You could see the Queen considering that. She was always very logical, but you also knew she had her son's best interests in mind. Chris had married a Princess from a different Kingdom, actually, but his marriage wasn't even arranged. He'd been in love with her since they were teenagers, and they could only meet once or twice a year in arranged legal meetings. You remember them having perhaps not so quiet dates together. Everyone knew, and when they announced their engagement everyone was happy but not surprised. Felix had taken too long to find a wife, and even the thoughtful Queen couldn't let that slide. People were asking questions, personal questions about his demeanour and whether he was off putting, and she couldn't deflect the questions for much longer.
You hadn't even noticed you'd drifted off, and you woke up to your face still smushed in the pillow. You immediately inhaled sharply upon waking up, taking in the light outside. You'd drooled all over your pillow, leaving a huge wet patch and your hair was knotted every which way, making you look like you'd been dragged backwards down the hedge. Damn. Thinking too hard has taken its toll on you, really.
A knock on the door made you spring up from your bed, smoothing down your hair with one hand, before another three knocks came in succession and you paused your movements. It was yours and your mother's secret knock - one knock, then three quick ones after. She'd seen you in worse states. Much worse states, even hungover states that you'd cried over while she held a bucket to your head and had promised to keep it a secret. You padded over to the door, opening it slightly just to make sure it was in fact, her. It was, obviously. Not even Felix knew your secret knock.
She came in and sat on the big armchair in front of the fire. Neither of you had said anything. You stood awkwardly, wringing your hands. She finally looked at you, a kind look on her face.
"I have two things to say," She smiled. You loosened up a bit, realising that it was just your mother. She'd always been stuck by you. It had been only the two of you, after all. It was all you knew. You nodded, rushing over to sit cross legged in front of her like a child. "First of all, the Queen would like to meet with you in an hour. Second of all, you're seriously still wearing those Dumbo pyjamas? The legs aren't even long enough anymore, I can see your knees, they're meant to be trousers not shorts-"
You blinked owlishly. Her rant went in through one ear and out the other, before she realised you weren't listening. She sighed. You blinked again, pulling the ends of your pyjama trousers absentmindedly to try and make them longer. "The Queen... wants to meet with me?"
Your mother nodded. She wasn't giving anything away by her face, but she definitely knew. She knew. She knew what you were going to be told. God, why couldn't she just ignore her job duties for once and be a fucking mother? You chided yourself mentally, she was a great mother. But you were frustrated. You needed to know now, not in an hour!
"Just... just me, and her?" You questioned, cocking your head to the side. Your mother shook her head, fingernails picking at a loose thread on her skirt. She was avoiding eye contact. What the fuck is going on?
Oh God, it's not you, is it? Fuck.
"Felix will be there," Your mother stated. She jumped up sharply. "I'll help you pick an outfit, dear. Come." She beckoned you to the armoire in the corner and you followed dutifully.
Your mother began to flick through pieces of fabric hanging off of hangers, and you tried to ignore the anxiety now mounting again in the pit of your stomach.
You so badly wanted it to be you. Just for once, you wanted to be selfish.
An hour later, on the dot, you stood outside the main hall. It was where everyone - royalty and staff alike - ate food together. That was, again, one of the kind Queen's rules. It was also where her throne was, where she had meetings with people. You'd never been on the receiving end of such a formal meeting, but one of the Queen's maids had come and collected you from your room five minutes before the allocated time. You'd managed to run a brush through your hair, thank God, and your mother had put you in a baby blue pinafore dress that came down to mid-knee on top of a white long sleeved turtleneck. The turtleneck was far too warm for the weather, but you knew the Queen would appreciate the conservative outfit. You stared down at the Mary Jane's on your feet.
You shut your eyes, trying to control your breathing, before realising you really couldn't afford to be late. Maybe you'd fucked up and done something wrong. You raised your hand, knocking softly on the door, but it swung open with the small force of your knock. The Queen sat on her throne, flipping through the pages of a book. Your Prince stood behind her, leaning over the throne, pointing at certain pages and giggling. She was smiling fondly at the pages, rubbing her fingertips over certain ones and mumbling statements to her son. She'd began to age slightly, with wrinkles adorning her eyes and mouth, but she didn't look any less beautiful. She had long, dark hair and freckles, just like Felix, but her smile was as kind as Chris'.
Oh? They seemed happy, at least.
You cleared your throat. The Queen, her Majesty, looked up at you and smiled acknowledgingly, shutting the book on her lap. She beckoned for you to come in and you did a small curtsy before shuffling into the lavish room. You could smell the kitchen from here, and you knew the cooks were whipping up something fierce by the enticing smell of it. You hadn't had time to have breakfast, because you'd slept in, and lunch was still around two hours away. You hoped your stomach wouldn't grumble too loud as you eventually approached the throne.
Felix smiled at you. He was wearing a similar pair of dress slacks to yesterday, but this time his silk shirt was a baby blue, the Kingdom's colours. A silver chain rested on his neck and you took note of the earrings dangling from his ears - another impulse decision you'd both done when you were younger. You know Felix had gotten in trouble for it at first, but the Queen seemed to be buying him a lot of expensive earrings lately. She knew what it was like to be young, after all. You smiled back awkwardly, rubbing your sweaty hands on your pinafore. It was then you realised you were in the Kingdom's colours too. Very patriotic of your mother.
"You want some tea, sugarplum?" Felix's voice drew you out of your thoughts, and you winced at the nickname. In front of his mother? In front of the Queen? Seriously? Your eyes seemed to convey a similar message to him, a flat glare, but he simply giggled. You saw him pouring from a teapot into a dainty teacup, and reverted your eyes to the Queen. She was still looking down at the book in her lap, and you looked down at it in confusion.
It was the scrapbook Felix made for the two of you. It was full of pictures from when you were younger to now, full of cinema tickets from secret outings and full of pressed flowers. Some of your favourite book quotes had even made it into there, scrawled in both of your handwritings. Even your school graduation pictures were in there. You'd been sent to a private school for the upper society, obviously, but you still had a normal graduation - albeit small, and full of snobby people.
"Thank you for meeting me, your Majesty," You were babbling in awkwardness. Oh, God. It was like word vomit, you couldn't stop it. "I'm really glad to meet with you today. I'm just wondering, have I done something wrong? You never ask to meet me."
The Queen laughed, her eyes forming crescent moons exactly the same as Felix's. Felix appeared at your side then, handing you a small teapot with what looked like peach tea in it. Your favourite, because of course, your Prince remembers that. You awkwardly shifted on one foot to the other, taking small sips of the tea to try and cool your nerves and almost screaming because it was still scalding hot. Felix was trying to hold in a laugh beside you, you could tell without even looking at him. Bastard.
"You haven't done anything wrong, sweetheart," The Queen's voice was soft, and she was now looking at you, taking in your outfit. She nodded approvingly. "You look lovely, very sophisticated. I believe I've made the right choice."
Your cheeks burned red. No. Fucking. Way. "T-The right choice? Do you mean...?"
The Queen beckoned over one of her staff members and they scurried over in a similar manner to the way your mother would have done. They placed a box in her hands, a small black velvet box that looked like it could be opened seamlessly. A... ring box? "I apologise, sweetheart. I've kept you in the dark a little bit with all of this. Would you bring her a chair, dear? A comfortable one."
The staff member scuttled over to grab a small chair with a red pillow on top of it and placed it behind you. You looked to your left side, still in shock, and the staff member simply smiled and motioned to the chair. You muttered a thanks in acknowledgement and sat on the pillow. Damn, the chair was comfortable. Felix was still standing, watching you hold your teacup awkwardly in a sweaty hand. He looked like he was about to die of laughter. God, you hated him so much, but you also really didn't. He just loved to tease you.
Maybe he would in bed, too-
"So, as you probably know, our favourite boy hasn't found someone to court yet," The Queen began speaking once you were sat down. Felix groaned, and his mother simply laughed. "Hush, now, sweetheart."
"Mum, you said you wouldn't be mean-"
Their dynamics always amazed you. She took the piss out of him, to put it quite literally, but in such an eloquent manner it could be easily missed as them having a difficult relationship. They didn't. He was a mummy's boy, through and through. It was one of the things you loved about him. You could tell a lot about a man from the way he treated his mother.
"Felix, hush now," She admonished again, but the smile on her face didn't leave. Felix mumbled something and then went back over to the side to fiddle with the teapots. Good, he should feel awkward. You looked at her outfit, beautiful in an ornate sense, pearl clips pinning her long, dark hair up so you could see the freckles on her face that matched your Prince. "I took it upon myself to find Felix a bride. I hope you don't think I'm cruel for doing so, I do have my baby's best interests in mind."
Felix groaned, putting his face in his hands. "'M not a baby-"
"You always will be to me, sweetheart. But it was time to get you courting, to get you married. I couldn't do that when you're always gallivanting discussing books with this one now, could I?" Your cheeks burned. You started to stutter out an apology, but she held up a hand to stop you. "Nonsense, sweetheart. Your friendship is one I've always admired. You're inseparable, and it is lovely to see you both so happy. You know that I value your mother highly, also."
You nodded, grinning. You felt a bit more at ease at the praise. The tea had also cooled down slightly too, so you started to sip it again, ignoring the way Felix was intently watching you with an evil smile to see if you'd burn your tongue again.
"Then, I thought about it. I thought, well, I do value your mother extremely highly, and you've been very helpful as of late. Obviously, that is because this one isn't taking up all of your time again," She nodded her head towards Felix. It was such an informal motion that you laughed in shock, and she giggled, a chiming similar to Felix's laugh that shouldn't have come from a middle aged woman who was literally the top of society. You still weren't completely getting at what she was saying, but you were enjoying the conversation. It was just praise, praise, praise. Amazing. "So, I want to offer you something. I want you to know you can decline, and you and your mother will remain here in your current roles. It would make me very happy, however, if you agreed to marry Felix."
You blinked. Okay, yeah, you kind of knew that's what she was getting at, but still - coming out of her mouth you thought you were going to have a heart attack. Your eyes flitted to Felix, who was simply nodding at you in encouragement, eyes widened. He... what, had he convinced her with that scrapbook? He wanted to marry you? Ugh, he probably just wanted to marry you so he didn't have to marry someone he didn't know. He doesn't even know you like him like that. But... a little part of you wanted to be selfish. You scratch his back by not letting him marry someone he's not close with, and he scratches yours by at least pretending to be in love with you. Could you deal with that, though? The pretending?
You nodded in acknowledgement at what the Queen said, looking at your tea again. The tea leaves were floating around in the liquid, mocking you, as if saying you were so fucking dumb. Of course you were going to say yes. "Um... may I ask, your Majesty, what would happen if I said no?"
You refused to look at Felix. The Queen hummed, looking down at the box in her lap. Oh, that was a ring box, definitely. Funny, in a weird way. "Well, this way, if you got married, you'd be able to spend a lot of time together. You'd see each other a lot. You'd be happy. If you decline... I'd have to find someone else for him to-"
"I'll do it," You grimaced at cutting the Queen off, but you couldn't even bear to think of him with someone else. Instead of chiding you, she beamed from ear to ear, and Felix rushed over to you.
He leaned down, wrapping his arms around you and leaning in for a hug. He felt so soft, all silk and soft skin, but you knew what was underneath that shirt. You'd seen it, and now you were definitely going to see everything else. He smelled of lavender and orange blossom, that expensive perfume he's always spraying on himself, but you could smell notes of the flowers in the meadow that were still left on his skin from yesterday.
Okay, yeah, you could get used to this.
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
You didn't get a proper engagement, but that was alright. You'd been given the ring pretty much straight away after your meeting, and when you'd got back to your room after lunch your mother was still there, but now she was gushing, almost bouncing off the walls.
The ring was beautiful. Even using that adjective felt like an understatement. It was clearly an heirloom, passed through generations. The gem in the middle was blue tourmaline, and whilst it matched the Kingdom's colour it was extremely rare - or so you thought, you weren't sure - and it was surrounded by a cluster of diamonds and placed on a thin gold band. You'd always dreamed of getting engaged, even letting yourself think about getting engaged to Felix sometimes, when you were feeling particularly selfish. You always thought it would happen on the meadow, or on your guys' beach that you'd had less time to go to these days because it was further out. You didn't think you wanted it to be pretty lavish, just you two, so you weren't that angry about just being given the ring and told to prepare for an outing with Felix later on. He was your safe place, and you did want to talk privately about the engagement, so you weren't too angry.
You thought about it a lot, looking down at the gem glinting in the light. Your mother had left, and you were now just sitting at your vanity staring at your own hand. The public knew who you were. They knew you were Prince Felix's best friend, and more than a few people had deemed you two as soulmates, people from a similar status who were bound to fall in love and get married. Now, it just felt very one sided. You knew you were in love with Felix, and you'd agreed to the marriage with little thought, but now you felt a bit anxious. How were you going to pretend not to love him when you had to sleep next to him every night? Or when you had to go on dates with him? The engagement would be formally announced tomorrow, with the outing tonight being specifically for you to wear the ring in the public's eye and for you two to dial up the romance and get people speculating. The engagement party was planned to take place tomorrow night after the announcement, with everyone important there.
It was a beautiful ring. You just weren't sure you could pretend any more. You were sick of pretending to just view him as a friend.
When the night rolled by, you'd dressed in something a bit cosier - not too warm, because the nights weren't getting cold much anymore. You'd switched your pinafore and long sleeve for a thin knitted jumper and some long linen trousers, throwing a long but light jacket on top. You had to look sophisticated, respectful even. You deemed you looked alright after tucking the jumper into the trousers and adorning a belt, and when you swung the door open to your room, Felix was stood there.
He'd also put on a thin jumper in lieu of his thin billowing silk shirts, but he still looked just as good in the blue cable knit staring you in the eyes. He'd even put on a long coat just like yours. It was like you were matching, but you hadn't intended to. You looked up at him, meeting his eyes, and you swore you'd never seen him look happier, not even when you'd moan in delight eating his homemade brownies or when you'd go sick after eating too many of said brownies because they were too good. His hair was neatly styled, pulled back in a stylish half up-half down ponytail, with a few strands dangling in his face.
"Hey, sugarplum," He spoke, voice low. You groaned, pushing him out of the doorway and leaving the room, shutting the door behind you. He laughed in delight at your annoyance and linked arms with you. It was then you noticed he had a flower in his hand - just one stem, but the meaning was enough to almost make you cry.
"Oh my God, Felix, is that-"
"Baby's breath," He unlinked his arm with you, passing the stem to you. When you two were younger, you'd been entranced by the baby's breath growing in your meadow and you'd both been determined it was the work of fairies. It was too beautiful to be normal, and you and Felix had collected them endlessly until there was basically none left. You called them fairy flowers, and that's sort of where Felix's nickname had come from - your mother had called him Pixie affectionately when he'd revealed that he really thought these flowers were part of a fairy's little garden. He pretended to hate it, but you know he secretly loved it when you called him that. Chris had told you.
"You remembered. We used to call them fairy flowers," You brushed your hand over the flower, grinning at the softness. Felix chuckled, whispering a 'yeah'. He quickly pinched the flower from you again, tucking it behind your ear. You quite literally swooned, smiling up at his own beaming face. It got a bit awkward for you then though, because you couldn't even pretend not to be in love with him now, before you're even married. You found yourself in a state of word vomit again. "Jeez, dial down the PDA, Romeo. We're not even outside yet."
You walked off, leaving Felix trailing after you laughing at your words. "'Jeez'? What are you, a frat boy? You need to stop reading fanfictions, you know," He slung his arm around your waist, leading you out of the palace grounds. You rolled your eyes, ignoring him, but you leaned in closer to his touch. Tonight was meant to just be a late night walk, full of holding hands and perhaps acting like normal people getting some street food from a dodgy merchant that would give you a bad tummy for a few days. Once you'd left the ornate gates, with one of the guards waving you both goodbye, you started to walk down the street and into the busier part of town. The palace wasn't too far from the hustle and bustle of the city, because again, the Queen apparently loved to be normal. People came to the palace all the time and took pictures and whatnot, but they were never allowed into the actual building. That was too far, and a danger to security.
You both began to walk, feeling the much cooler breeze blow through your hair and rattle the petals upon your ear. It was a bit ticklish, but he'd put it there, so it was staying there. His arm stayed around your waist, but it was comforting. You'd done stuff like this a million times. You were both extremely affectionate and loved touch anyway, so it wasn't strange. Of course, it felt different. You were engaged to him now. You could like... kiss, and stuff. You felt like a high school girl kicking her legs and twirling her hair over her crush, but you decided you were going to allow it because you were still young, and still yet to have a lot of your firsts with someone.
Once you got to a street where there were a few people milling around, Felix motioned to a wooden bench on the side of the path. Overgrown moss and bushes wrapped around it, but it still looked quite cute. "Wanna sit down here for a bit? I think we should probably have a chat, you know. About everything," When you looked at him, he looked embarrassed for once, strange given his usual brazen nature. You found yourself wanting to comfort him, so you nodded, sitting down on the bench and smoothing your trousers down. He sat next to you, turning to face you on the bench and fiddling with the cuffs of his coat.
"Felix, are you okay about marrying me?" You blurted out. "I mean, I know you probably don't want to marry anyone else, but you won't even get the chance to try to get to know everyone. You're stuck with me."
Felix furrowed his eyebrows. His head snapped up to you. "Um, what the fuck? You're my best friend. I am absolutely okay with getting married to you."
Your chest heaved. You felt reassured, but still not completely relieved. "But... Lixie. We'll have to kiss. And we'll be sharing a bed. You know we have to consummate the marriage, right?"
There was that smirk on his face again. You regretted ever saying anything. "You've been thinking about having sex with me?"
You groaned, putting your head in your hands. You heard Felix chuckling next to you, his shoulders shaking the whole rickety bench. You finally looked up at him, punching him in the leg again. His laughter ceased as he yelped. Good, bastard. "You know what I mean, Lix. We are literally going to have to, or the marriage won't be like, real. Or something, I don't know."
"You do know, you know everything. You're smarter than me," Felix chided you. He sighed, leaning to put his head on your shoulder. "What are you actually worried about? Tell me."
"It's just..." You couldn't say it. But maybe you could, and phrase it differently. A conditional question, to answer the real question inside of you. "What if we fell in love?"
Felix hummed, shutting his eyes softly. "Then everyone would have been right about us."
"Y-You... you wouldn't mind it? What about our friendship?"
He rubbed his cheek against you comfortingly. "It would only be made better, sugarplum," He pulled back, grinning at you. Oh no. That smile meant a Dumb Felix comment was incoming. "Plus, I know you think I'm smoking hot, so-"
"Felix!" You whined. He stuck his tongue out at you cheekily, making you roll your eyes. You turned away from him, staring ahead at a large tree on the other side of the path.
"I mean, we are compatible. Would it be so bad?" He sounded insecure now. You looked at him. His eyes were gleaming from the moonlight, and he did look really nervous. Perhaps... he wants to know if you'd hate him if either of you caught feelings. He wants to know if you think it would ruin your friendship. Honestly? After that conversation, you didn't. You shook your head, smiling softly at him. He stuck his tongue out again, trying to lighten the mood, and you did it back. You both had a fit of giggles afterwards, hitting each other while laughing like you always do.
Then, you saw it. A distinctive flash of a camera behind Felix, towards the end of the path. Oh, yeah, you're meant to be like, loving it up right now. You grabbed Felix's arm, pulling him in.
"Wh- wha-"
You brought his ear to your mouth, looking down at it and whispering. "There's a reporter taking pictures behind you. Don't look, but we should probably be more affectionate."
Felix pulled away, nodding solemnly. You could practically see the cogs turning in his head as he spoke, then a lightbulb going off. "Kiss me."
"H- Huh?!"
"Or, I'll kiss you, I don't mind. But that would really prove a point, wouldn't it? So caught up in each other that we forget royal etiquette?" He'd leaned back more comfortably on the bench, slinging an arm behind you. His fingertips were dancing up your shoulder as you were turned to face him, faces only inches apart. You licked your lips. He licked his own. The flash appeared again. Oh, the reporter liked that.
"Felix... I don't know-"
"I know it's not your first kiss, sugarplum. Can't back out of kissing me now," You internally groaned at the mention of him knowing what you and Changbin had done. Fuck Changbin, stupid blabbermouth. Felix was smirking, looking at you.
"Fuck it. As long as it won't be awkward?"
"We're gonna have to kiss a lot more, may as well kiss now," He shrugged. You shrugged. He was right. Eventually, you nodded. His fingertips carried on tracing shapes on your shoulder - you managed to make out a flower, a heart, maybe even a cat's head. Or a dog's head, you weren't sure. His other hand went up to your chin, fingertips coming to lift your head up to be closer to him once again. His eyes went to yours, a silent question in those deep brown eyes, and you nodded in response.
With that, you were being kissed by your first love. Your one sided love, to be precise, but you actually couldn't find it in you to care. You didn't even realise the camera flashing repeatedly as you pressed your lips against his, a chaste but open mouthed kiss. His lips were extremely soft, and you fluttered your eyes shut and leaned in to get more. He obliged, hand now going to the back of your head to bring you in further. You whimpered at the dominance the grab showed, and he let out a sharp breath of air through his freckled nose in response. You wanted more, so much more. Your lips pressed against each other over and over, a little messy but you liked it like that. Just as you tried to get your tongue against his, he gently pulled away, with one more small peck to your nose.
You were embarrassed when you realised you'd tried to follow him for more kisses. You quickly avoided eye contact, and Felix elbowed you.
"Look at me!" He whined for attention. Ah yeah, same old Felix. You'd forgotten what he was like in that ten second kiss. He still had issues with wanting to be the centre of attention. You looked at him awkwardly, fists clenched in your sweaty palms. You almost felt bad the beautiful ring had to live there. Once you'd looked at him, his sad face fell and he smirked. "Good, huh?"
"W-Was I... good? I've only ever kissed Changbin," You admitted, grimacing. Felix sat up sharply, putting a hand on your knee. You almost flinched away to try and sedate your own sexual desires, but he would get suspicious.
"Uhhh, yes! It was good, I really enjoyed that. Thank you for doing that for me," Felix comforted. When you nodded in response, he grabbed your chin again and placed another peck on your lips. "I... honestly? I kind of wouldn't mind kissing you again."
The boy's boldness shocked you everyday, and you'd known him for sixteen years. "For... for practice, right? When we're married, we're gonna have to do it loads, so-"
"Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. For practice," Felix agreed. He was nodding eagerly. He suddenly shifted, looking down at the watch on his wrist. "Aw, shit. We should probably head back. Wanna watch a film in your room when we get back?"
You grinned. Back to the same old. This was better, though now you knew you'd be thinking about being on your back with him on top of you making out while you were watching a film. Quickly, you realised something. "That will look so sus though, now that we're engaged."
"We'll keep it a secret," He wiggled, elbowing you. You found yourself laughing, jumping up to walk back to the palace. You held your outstretched hand to him.
"Your majesty?"
"Ah, yes, my fine maiden," Felix giggled, sliding off the bench to grab your hand. You both started to walk to the edge of the path, skipping along as if you had no cares in the world. You heard rustling, probably the sounds of the reporter leaving.
You hoped you'd done okay. You hoped you'd made it believable. Well, you probably had, given your actual feelings - but had Felix?
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
You'd woken up the next day with a piece of popcorn stuck to your forehead and another person snoring next to you. You blinked yourself awake drearily, leaning up on your palms and looking around your room. Your TV had turned onto standby, and you looked to your right. Felix was in your room. Felix was in your bed. You'd- oh, no. You'd totally just fallen asleep watching a movie, nevermind. Totally fine.
No, actually. Totally not fine!
You shrieked, grabbing Felix's slender waist and wiggling him awake. He'd borrowed a pair of your more comfortable clothes and the t-shirt had been just a bit too small, riding up with every move and now exposing nearly his whole tummy. You tried to ignore it, continuing to shake him awake. The piece of popcorn stuck to your forehead fell onto the bed with an unceremonious noise and you groaned. Eventually, after what felt like hours of shaking your best friend, he opened his eyes and gave you a wide smile, pulling you in for a cuddle. You ignored how lovely it felt and tried to get him to regain consciousness and morality.
"Felix."
"Hmm?"
"You are in my bed."
"I know, dummy- Oh." Felix shot up, nearly sending you flying off the bed. His hand landed on the piece of popcorn, crumbling it into your pristine white sheets. You tried not to cry. His eyes widened, staring at you. "What's the- have you checked your phone? What's the time?"
You shook your head, reaching over to grab your phone. You seldom went on your phone, preferring to read and spend time with Felix, but you had it in case of emergencies and also sometimes for TikTok, but you'd never admit that. You blinked. 11am.
You'd missed breakfast, but you also had zero missed calls or texts on your phone. No one had woken you? Weird. You flipped the screen to show Felix, and he leaned in closer. You were brandishing your wallpaper of the two of you on the beach last summer, but you didn't care. He grabbed your phone, entered your passcode and clicked on the phone app.
"No one even tried to wake us?" He asked. You shook your head. He laid back down, seeming weirdly reassured. You didn't question it, slinking up next to him and putting your head on his shoulder. He moved his arm accordingly, pulling you into his chest and still clicking random buttons on your phone. Eventually, he landed on the search tab, and typed in 'news'. Oh, shit. Was it announced?
Yep. In blaring headlines, multiple news media sources were now releasing reports with every single detail of the story, including pictures of the two of you last night. The titles were all similar, going along the lines of "the sweet Prince and beloved best friend confirmed to be engaged!" or "sophisticated best friend and the lovely Prince taking a romantic late night stroll!". You scoffed, clicking on one and scrolling down. The pictures were cute, to be honest. Some even showed the two of you laughing and hitting each other last night, or you two walking home hand in hand and skipping as if you were kids. One picture, however, is what stuck with you. It was the two of you mid-kiss, Felix's hand on the back of your head and his other holding your shoulder, keeping you in place. It was fucking hot.
"Damn, we look good, you know?" Felix mused, zooming in on the picture. You hummed. You did, you couldn't deny that. "My mum was so real for thinking of us getting married. Like, we totally look good together. Imagine our kids."
Imagine what we'll do to make kids, you thought, but you bit your tongue. You giggled, slapping Felix's chest playfully, then a thought came into your stupid lizard brain. "Hey, Lix?"
"Yeah?" He was still scrolling through an article, laughing at some of the sentences. Everyone loved the two of you, but a few were jealous that you'd managed to snag him. Good.
"Did you mean what you said last night? About practice?" Felix's thumb stopped on the screen. His eyes darted to you, his hair still mussed from sleep. He just stared at you, and you lost your nerve. "Sorry. Weird thing to say. I was just wondering-"
"No, not weird. I meant it. You wanna make out? For practice?" Felix locked your phone, chucking it to the end of the bed. You didn't have time to scold him for throwing your things around like that before his hand was carding in your hair, fingertips scratching at your scalp. God, you loved it when he did that. Your eyes shut in bliss. You totally forgot what he asked. "Hey, earth to sugarplum."
"Hmm? Oh, yeah. Sure. For practice."
Okay, so you were totally being super selfish. But, you were going to be having sex with him soon. You could do a little making out to prepare, right? You were just a woman, after all. Nothing wrong with that. His fingers gripped your hair with a different intensity then, pulling at the strands slightly, and you choked back a whine. You opened your eyes, looking up at him.
He hummed, looking at you. He tilted his head to the side, thinking. "Maybe... yeah," He grabbed your arm, pulling you over him. He positioned you exactly how he wanted you, on top of him, straddling his hips. His dainty hands went to your waist, rubbing circles. "Yeah, like this. For practice."
"For practice," You agreed solemnly. You were beginning to think that maybe it wasn't for practice. Maybe he just wanted to. He scooted up, leaning up against the pillows so he was sat up and you were sat on top of him. You tried to ignore the fact that you could feel what was going on between his legs through your thin sleep shorts. You couldn't get too wound up during this, just in case it was just for practice. Knotting your hands into the fabric of his - your - white t-shirt, you leaned down, brushing your nose with his. You were being selfish, but bold, but mostly selfish.
Felix's eyes flitted down to your lips, leaning up to place a soft kiss there. You smiled softly, and he returned yours with a smile that could only be described as filled with fondness. You bit your lip, noticing the way his eyes honed in on your teeth and perhaps his grip tightened on your hips just a bit, but he'd always deny it.
"Lixie." You muttered. You were too shy. He knew exactly what you meant, and raised one hand up to grab at the back of your head. He brought your lips to his, attaching his mouth to yours in a way that was completely different from yesterday. Yesterday was for show, but this seemed personal, hungry almost. You decided you were going to take what you could get. You pressed your lips to his harder, making him choke out a noise of surprise. It was messy, again, open mouthed kisses that were nothing akin to precise or experienced, but you could get to know each other, get to know what you liked. Right at that moment, all you knew was that you liked him, and you would be so pissed off if he didn't let you get your tongue in his mouth like he did last night.
Your hands went up to his face, cradling his cheeks in your palms and slipping your tongue into his mouth. Your tongues brushed against each other, and you whined, hips kicking up just slightly before you managed to stop yourself. He grabbed your hips, flipping you over so he was on top of you, not breaking the kiss. His lips kept brushing against yours as his tongue entered your mouth, groaning at the feeling. You couldn't stop breathing heavily through your nose, your hands roaming up his back and landing on his hair, pulling him down to kiss you harder. Your lips felt bruised, swollen, but you never wanted to stop kissing him.
With that thought, he bit your lip, pulling away and letting it release against your teeth. You squirmed, licking your lips excessively to try and stop them feeling so swollen. Felix looked debauched, his hair even more tangled and his lips just as red and swollen as yours. His eyes were dark, staring down at you.
"Baby. Bestie. I'm sorry, but I'm- I'm sorry..." He whispered, his head going to the crook of your neck to place soothing kisses there. He was breathing heavily, shifting ever so slightly on top of you. You felt it then, what he was apologising for. His length was rock hard, the shaft pressing into your core and giving you just the slightest bit of stimulation. "'M so fucking hard, sugarplum, I'm sorry."
"I-It's okay, Lixie. I think I'm... I'm wet, too," You whispered, and he threw his head back, groaning. "Practice makes perfect, y'know. We can keep making out." Felix nodded eagerly, and he grabbed your thighs, linking them around his hips. He ducked to place a few more kisses on your neck, biting a little at the area where your throat met your jaw. You let out a moan, neck bearing to the opposite side to give him full access and he clearly approved, biting harder.
"Baby, c-can I just," He ground his hips into yours, groaning and stuttering his words out. He immediately stopped, looking down at you. "Can I? I can make us both feel good, no sex. We can just grind a little on eachother. I won't put it in, I promise-"
With that, a knock on the door interrupted you both. You were fully prepared to start swinging at whoever was on the other end. Felix looked like he was about to die, cheeks flushed and hair tangled every which way. You both stared at each other in disbelief. Okay, so you had kind of really lost yourself there, and now somebody is at the door while the nation's favourite Prince is currently on top of you grinding into you with full intent to cum. You'd only just announced your engagement. You could've got pregnant before you even got married. Jesus, what is wrong with you? You sighed, moving to sit up, and Felix moved off of you. He ran a hand through his knotted hair.
"I should... fuck, Felix, what do we do?" You knew you both looked the image of lust, lips kiss bitten and swollen and hair everywhere. You could even feel the wet patch in your sleep shorts. Shit, okay.
Felix looked to be holding back a laugh. You felt terrified, but you almost laughed too, in pure disbelief. You both covered your mouths before you shot off the bed, slipping your shorts off your legs and replacing them with a pair of longer trousers from your drawer. You honestly couldn't care less if he'd seen you in your underwear, you'd bathed together when you were younger. You motioned to the en suite dramatically and Felix ran in there instantly, still giggling quietly, locking the door behind him. You shook your head fondly as another knock was firmly punched against the door. Jesus, couldn't even give you a second?
"Coming!" You called, walking over to the door and trying your best to fake yawn loudly so they thought you'd just woken up. When you opened the door, Chris stood there, a happy smile on his face.
"Okay, I'm so coming in! Why didn't you tell me you and Felix are serious now?" He pushed you back into the room, throwing himself onto your bed dramatically. It was quite funny, seeing him lying on the bed you'd just accosted his brother on. He was resting against the messy sheets in a perfect suit and tie. You shook your head, letting out a laugh.
"Okay, we're not. It's an arranged thing, Chris. We're still only best friends," You chose your words wisely, fiddling with the drawstring on your trousers. Chris hummed, giving you a strange look. Changbin. Fucking Changbin, he'd definitely said something. God. "And, why didn't you ask your own brother this? I'm simply an accessory."
"Because my own brother is currently locked inside your bathroom pretending he's not there?" Chris replied instantly. Your eyes widened.
"No, he's not. Why would you even think-"
"Okay, well. I know he is, so," Chris shrugged. You sighed.
"Felix, you can come out," You said. The lock slowly clicked open and Felix emerged, looking sheepish. Thank God the shock of Chris arriving had made his boner go down, so now he didn't look too lustful. He'd also clearly ran your brush through his hair before coming out. You couldn't say the same for yourself.
Felix threw himself down on the bed next to you and Chris, groaning and stretching his limbs. "Did anyone ask where we were?"
Chris chuckled. He fiddled with the wedding band on his left hand. "Yep. I made up an excuse, said you'd gone out for a walk again and were getting food out. I had a feeling you'd both be spending the night together. Princess Diaries again?"
You shook your head. "Nope. It's too real now."
"Mind you, I don't think there was this much 'practising' going on between Mia and her potential husband in the second one," Chris looked up from his hand. You averted your eyes.
"Dunno what you mean-"
"How much did you hear, what the fuck?!" Felix shrieked. Oh, great, thanks.
"I mean, the walls are thin, dude. I heard a lot on my way down the corridor. But, I'm glad you two are having fun with it, at least. Arranged marriages can be shit sometimes," Chris stretched similarly to Felix, before reaching down and clapping Felix on his back harshly. Felix groaned, throwing himself around the bed in protest. "Anyway, I should be off now. Congratulations again, guys. You should probably get ready for the party tonight though."
Chris began to walk out of the room, and Felix stood up.
"I should... go. With him. You know?" You nodded in response to his statement. He waited until Chris had rounded the corner, and leaned down, pressing a swift peck to your lips. You squeaked in surprise, cheeks burning crimson. He giggled, giving you a sweet wave and running off. "See you later, bestie!"
You wondered if you’d ever be permitted to drop the bestie, maybe once you’re married to him, but it couldn’t come soon enough. You wanted to let yourself be selfish just this once.

Your best friend’s brother doesn’t usually act this way, at his frat, everyone knows you’re his, no one would dare come near you- but here, in your hometown, surrounded by past crushes and would be romancables, it’s open season, and it’s clear that it’s making Jaehyun uncomfortable.

(side b: north and south poles | minatozaki sana)
from what you've learned in school, at the very early age of kindergarten is that the earth only has one moon, only one. mars has two moons: phobos and deimos.
when you were kids, you were called deimos, sana was called mars, and fuji was called phobos. it was always you three together, running through the streets of the countryside of japan.
causing so much trouble for your administrators, running around yelling down the halls of your school, the terrible trio of class 2-A. leaving school was always fun too, running around for snacks and jumping at the sight of cats.
you and sana were always closer, whenever fuji had to go home early because of his strict extracurriculars, you spent time with sana. walking by the train tracks, looking for lost coins for the vending machine or even staying for dinner with sana’s parents. it felt like it was you three taking on the small town.
until it didn’t. when middle school rolled around, you were excited to see them two after a couple of weeks of summer. each of you was busy with other things in life, making it hard to meet each other. so on the first day of school, you strolled in, ready to take on the new school year with sana and fuji by your side, when you noticed they weren’t talking much to each other.
fuji found basketball friends in his group, clinging to them like they were his new lifeline. sana has gotten close to the popular girls, they were nice but very superficial, all having drama with each other but in front of the group, they all faked smiles for each other.
you found yourself in between two different worlds, you tried calling to them after school, but they both dismissed you saying they had extracurriculars. fuji had gone off to play with his friends during basketball practice, while sana participated in school government association.
you got tricked into becoming treasurer for the sga that very year, so it was nice to still be around sana. although you could feel her distance.
it isn’t until one spring afternoon, you feel your first ever heartbreak. sana rushes into the sga room while you were napping on a desk.
she taps your shoulder excitedly, “wake up!”
you rub your eyes and focus on sana, who’s shoving a letter in your hand. you read the first line and yeah, your heart is crushed.
“fuji confessed to me!” she shouts excitedly, doing a little dance by herself as you read the lines.
“oh, congrats.” you hand the letter back to her, she looks at you a bit puzzled by your simple reaction.
“he asked me out! im so excited.” she explains, going into detail about their supposed first date. “he might kiss me, what do you think?”
“if you want to kiss him, then kiss him.”
she rolls her eyes at that, of course she knows that. that’s not what she’s implying.
“what i mean is, i’ve never had my first kiss! i don’t know what to do.” she goes on, thinking about it seriously. “what if he kisses me, and i suck and he doesn’t want to kiss me.”
“sana, if he thinks you being a bad first kisser is a deal breaker then dump him.”
you explain, placing your head back on your arms.
“you have to help me!”
“help?”
“kiss me, pretend you’re fuji.”
“no way sana.”
“why? too much of a chicken to kiss me?”
“no im not!”
"bawk bawk bawk" sana mocks you. making flapping arm motions to imitate a chicken.
“fine!” you hold yourself together (as much as you can) and place your lips gently against sana, pulling her in by the neck. caressing her cheek before letting her go. her eyes are dazed.
“wow yeah, that was good.” she fiddles with her school skirt, “i wish you were a boy, you’d make a girl very happy kissing her like that.” she blushes and leaves you alone, you feel that jagged break in your heart tear a little longer.
your tears don't stop as you try and go back to taking a nap, feeling your breathing getting heavy and you stay the rest of the afternoon, crying about not being born a guy for sana.
--
that was the last time you really talked to sana, too hurt that you cut your hair short the next day in the bathroom sink. crying tears into the porcelain bowl, with tears filling around your choppy hair. when you finally stop, you try liking the idea of it being short like a boys. but sana doesn’t spare you a glance. suddenly the hair feels too choppy and the air that you didn't feel when your hair was long starts to bother you.
it doesn't bother you for long, once your hair grows back. it feels right, like you were meant to look this pretty and feminine. you stay away from both sana and fuji as much as you can.
until one day sana knocks rapidly at your door, you haven't had her over in years. high school created even more distance between you two, you found your own people to be around. people that never overlapped with sana and fuji.
--
until you see sana staring at you from across the door, eyes still sparkling as they always have, in that charming look. and the longer face, the warm smile and comforting scent of flowers. as much she is the sana you remember, you don't think she's the same sana you once knew.
"hi."
"hi sana, are you okay?" you let her in. and it's like you're transported back to when you were thirteen, letting sana come over whenever she needed to complain about fuji and his "boy" tendencies. now that you're both 18 and ready to set off into the real world, you feel a little strange having sana visit.
"yeah, i need your help." she starts, dropping her bag onto the floor. you feel your heart rate spike a bit, was sana in trouble?
"help with what?" you offer her a bottle of her favorite drink, royal milk tea.
"you remembered." she says softly, grabbing it and downing it in a few quick seconds, a sign she's nervous and with the tapping of her foot. you're feeling anxious just at the sight. "fuji asked to have sex."
you nearly spit out your own water, "what?" your eyes are wide and you stare at sana as she keeps her eyes away from you.
"i need your help."
"did he do something sana? i'll kill him myself." you get up.
"no, none of that. i want to, have sex i mean. i just can't with him first."
"why not?"
"well, i...i want my first time to not be him. i just know it in my heart."
"okay. so how am i supposed to help you?"
"be my first."
"sana! you can't ask that of me."
"why not? we're best friends, of course we can."
"sana no, you love fuji, he should be your first if you love him. you're dating him too, that would be cheating."
"i dont, i dont think, i just." she shakes her head. "it can't be with him first." she ends it softly, hands in her lap. looking like she's been scolded. you feel the guilt bubbling up in your stomach; here she was being vulnerable, and you just accused her of being a cheater.
"what's really going on?" you ask, she's not making sense anymore.
"i need you to be my first, i want you to be. it can't be anyone else." sana is firm. standing up and taking your hands in hers. with her eyes looking into yours like that, like she knows how much you love and adore her. you can't find yourself to say no, even if it betrays fuji.
"okay."
"yeah?" her eyes light up.
"yeah." you pull sana upstairs, and begging her to forget about fuji, just for one night. to only focus on you and to pull out those pretty sounds of sana uttering your name into the night.
you don't stop until you feel sana against you, like it's where she belongs, right in your arms.
--
when sana leaves in the morning, you feel that gash that you've been trying so hard to heal get ripped apart again. she thanks you like you're someone who was there to provide a service to her, like that's the only purpose you served her that night.
as if you didn't pour your heart out as you kissed down her torso, cherishing her body like the gods sculpted it. as if she isn't the only woman in the world, you begin to think maybe that's what you were made for. someone to exist for sana, and never with her.
this hurtful thought bumps around your brain, hitting every surface of it, you feel your heart break into two. like you're led on a leash by sana, without her letting you ever leave.
it becomes a habit, a habit you can't break. you circling between the sana and fuji whenever it was the holidays or birthday parties. each year you feel more and more of your soul slip away. you can't begin to tell where your identity begins and ends without sana.
doesn't help that fuji is a good man for sana. always considerate and careful, giving her the space and time she needs when she's overwhelmed. you think sana chose well, a good man in her life that'll never waver his loyalty for her.
but it leaves you in disarray, sana contacting you for her relationship problems. leaving fuji all alone as she calls you to escape. weeks spent away from fuji, where you two meet hidden away from the world. a hidden place filled with drunk kisses and hookups, ones you would never utter to fuji.
you being invited at her parties, seeing his arms draped around her like you weren't caressing them just days ago. it's all too much, you don't know if you can be friends with her. ever again.
until she marries fuji, she hands you their invitation card herself. how dare she? after years of being a secret she hands you a knife for you to stab into your heart, and she does it with a smile. explaining how happy she is to have the wedding of her dreams, while you feel the woman of your dreams slip right through your fingers.
but then the reality hits, she was never yours to begin with, you two are simply friends. just best friends that know each other's bodies too well.
you play your part well, giving a dedicated speech to them two. reminiscing of the early days of you as a trio. days of mischief, talking about learning of their feelings for each other, making jokes about how they were polar opposites, destined to find each other magnetically. you leave out the part where you think you would fit well with sana even if you aren't the opposing magnet.
you try and stay away from her as much as you can after the wedding, to save your own heart (as much there is left). blocking her number and taking time away from japan. going overseas to travel, and it works out well, you meet a woman named momo, you don't mention the woman to sana. you don't hear from sana and you feel your heart calm a bit, like it's finally able to take a break.
when you return to japan, you find her at your doorsteps, fallen asleep at your door. she wakes up to the sight of you and hugs you immediately, complaining about how worried she was that you disappeared. you don't mention how you blocked her number. letting sana into your apartment and she drops the biggest news on you that you could ever expect: shes pregnant.
"congratulations sana!" you fake a smile and she goes on to explain that it's going to be a little girl. and she's so excited to dress her up and have a daughter.
you feel like you're hearing static noise as she goes on, sitting on your couch talking animatedly about the new nursery and all the books she's been reading about motherhood. it isn't until she finally steps away to go home that you realize that you never said more than congratulations.
--
months later, she births the beautiful baby girl. you wait outside the room, a balloon in one hand and a pack of diapers in the other. the nerves of having to see sana after so long made you vomit in the hospital bathroom just ten minutes ago. you try to focus on anything else, the sterile walls, the smell of sanitizer, the sounds of nurses chatting. then you see fuji step outside, looking like a tired first-time father.
"congratulations fuji!" you say as you pass him the diapers. he laughs at the sight and thanks you before saying he's going outside to get some food and that sana is awake.
you step into the hospital room and hear the rhythmic heart monitor and low beeps of machines. there sana is, exhausted as ever but happily babbling to her baby. you can see the little baby in the swaddle. you walk up to the bedside.
"hi sana, congratulations on your new baby." you tie the balloon to her bed, and she smiles at you, tired but always warm. "she's beautiful, sana." you wash your hands and poke at her cheek.
"isn't she? i think it's too early to say, but she might have my eyes." you look back down and see the baby, eyes closed in bliss. you think they look like sana's too. ones that you used to look at as kids.
"i want to name her after you." she starts, gently caressing her head. you stop, leaning back quickly.
“dont do that sana, don’t give it the same curse you gave me.” you bite out. sana stops caressing the baby's face to look at you. “forced to love someone who will never love them back.”
"what are you talking about?" sana says gently, you've never raised your voice at her in all the years you've known each other.
"sana, you can't give her my name. i forbid you to." you say sternly; after how much she destroyed you, you're not letting her name her daughter that.
"but, why?" she's still perplexed, eyes wide.
"it's not right." you look away from sana, years of pain resurfacing just at the idea. "you really hurt me, i don't want you to name your daughter after me."
she doesn't press you on the matter anymore, anxious eyes darting all over the room, trying to find an escape from this conversation.
"what about being her godmother?"
"i'm moving away sana."
it's like the final nail in the coffin, both phrases being said at the same time. you realize there's no other way to say it, not over text or a call. it's better to say it here, ripping off the bandaid completely.
"moving? where are you moving?" you can hear the heartbeat machine beeping faster, and you see her heart rate climbing steadily.
"korea, i got a job over there." you say dismissively.
"oh wow, when do you move?" sana's voice is timid as she tries to hold back tears at the idea.
"i leave in a week." you say, picking your stuff up getting ready to leave. "congratulations again sana, your baby is beautiful and healthy. tell fuji that he'll be a good father, i know it." and with that you step to leave, and just as you turn the knob you can hear it, the sound of sana crying.
you try not to cry yourself, but you can't stay here. orbiting around two people who are building their life together. you weren't supposed to be here to begin with. earth never had two moons. you nearly bump into fuji when he opens the door.
"oh fuji, i'm sorry i couldn't stay long." you offer when you see him outside, food in hand and excited to talk to you, he smiles sadly. giving you a hug as you walk outside.
feeling like for once you control your own life, your love is yours, and no longer sana's.
"stay a while longer, sana is so excited to see you!" he says, trying to urge you to come back inside.
"it's okay, we'll see each other around." you turn to look back at sana, and she stares right into you with tears running down her face and glaring at you. you just told your final lie to sana, closing the door behind them, like you closed your relationship with sana.
--
you don't see sana for years; it's strange. growing up with so much hurt and pain made it difficult to enjoy your romantic relationships, but you realize there is always a person for you, yours being hirai momo, not sana minatozaki.
here at incheon international airport, you stretch from your seat, needing to get some movement in before you sit in that cramped airplane seat for hours. so you make a beeline to the bathroom, walking directly into a young girl.
she falls backwards, nearly hitting her head on the floor, but you catch her in time.
"hi sweetie you okay?" you pat her down, pulling her shirt down. she nods at you and you see her eyes, and you feel your memories shift back to when you were five years old, meeting that girl that sat near you in class 2-A. she runs towards someone.
you stand up and recognize those eyes immediately, sana minatozaki in the flesh after five years. eyes wide as she stares at you. fuji right by her side.
you can see the recognition in sana's eyes. you walk right up to them, offering the couple a hug. sana's arms grip onto you so tightly you feel your ribs in her hold. then you feel a tug at your pant leg.
you turn around and smile at the girl by your leg.
"say hi hana, this is sana and fuji." your little girl waves to them hi, while sana is still staring at you. fuji starts congratulating you, excited to see that you have a daughter. you let out a laugh. then you feel a pat on your back, with momo walking up to kiss you.
then you let your daughter down to play with sana's daughter. eyes fond at the two little girls chasing after each other.
“it’s been a while.” sana's voice cuts into your thinking.
“yeah, i guess it has.” you reply, finally looking at her after so long. sana gulps, willing the tears away.
"honey, you’re crying.” fuji says wiping away sana's tear, you smile at that. he's good for her.
“oh i didn't notice.” sana laughs, rapidly wiping her tears away.
you let the three of them talk, momo joining in and introducing herself. you're left feeling a bit better about your decision to leave sana's side all those years ago. waiting for her to love you back would've costed your relationship with momo, especially since you would have never had hana.
it's important to know when being friends turns into we can't be friends anymore.

Ran noticing you watching and telling Rindou that they had a fan watching them practice
introducing yourself to them once they catch you watching; going to a konbini afterwards for a snack
finding out that Rindou was the same age as you and that you went to the same school (never seeing him because he's been ditching class; finally finding out who the empty desk belongs to in your class)

Rindou being aware of his crush on you but not wanting to say anything, afraid of ruining your current relationship
seeing other guys hit on you and deciding that he was greedy and wanted you all to himself
confessing to you on one of your regular outings, secretly being over the moon when you accepted
walked around like a proud peacock for a while, hyped that you had accepted his affections

introducing you to the S-62 generation (I hc that they're all buds and hung out after getting out of juvie)
being devastated when he got arrested after Izana's death; staying by his side and waiting for him, but making sure he knew he'd better make it up to you when he gets out
Bonten Rindou
Rindou following through with his promise of making it up to you; proposing shortly after he got out of prison (where would he ever find a wifey like you again?)
Rindou being so grateful that you waited for him and loved him despite his flaws
Having a small intimate wedding, inviting the remaining members of S-62, celebrating your marriage and a reunion of the members
Rindou and Ran being approached by Kakucho, Kaku inviting them to join Bonten
Rindou being hesitant to join, having you and being a married man, not being sure of where life would take you two if he got involved in the criminal life again
Rindou talking it out with you and joining Bonten along with Ran (you threatened Ran to make sure Rindou would stay safe and that they wouldn't go to jail again)
the Bonten crime life both providing generously for your lifestyle, but taking quality time with Rindou away from you
Rindou opening the nightclub along with Ran and taking you there on the opening night, dedicating an entire private suite just for you, whenever you wanted to come
Rindou promising now that things were more established he'd be dedicating more time to you like you deserve
having the occasional Bonten x S-62 crossover hangouts, meeting up with Kakucho and Mochi for dinners
being content with your position as Rindou's wifey, seemingly set for a happy life with your crime husband

A/N: thank you for requesting! i decided it would be best to split this into two parts where the second will be posted on my page immediately after!
JJK Men Seeing their Crush Pole Dance
Includes: Sataru Gojo, Suguru Geto, Toji Fushiguro
Disclaimers: Adult content! some feminine descriptives used, clubs, alcohol, smoking, flirting, sexual scenarios, no smut
Sataru Gojo
You and Sataru had been friends for as long as you could remember, practically connected by the hip since childhood and through your teen years.
Even to this day it was a rarity for your friends to see you two separated. The running joke was that everyone knew you both were practically soul mates. You two were the only ones who didn't see it - Living in a slow pit of denial.
One night, you had invited your best friend over for dinner and a movie (which was an often occurrence between you two), as you both enjoyed some sushi on your living room couch.
Almost reaching halfway through the movie, a thought came to your mind, "you know i've been trying this new type of exercise lately..." You trailed off, mouth full of sushi, honestly struggling to be heard over the sound of the TV.
"Good. You need it," Gojo snickered teasingly. God, for as long as he's known you and he still tried to get on your nerves.
"Yeah, you're one to talk- As if you even have any hobbies.." you retorted with a roll to the eye. He mostly ignored your comeback, waiting for you to continue speaking.
"Well, honestly it's kinda out there but i think you'd get a kick of it."
He raised an eyebrow at you, "What is it, naked yoga or something? You really don't need to show me that," He giggled.
You let out a sigh at his poor attempt at a joke, putting your bowl down on the table next to the couch. You stand, waiting for him to follow your actions. He stuffed one large bite of sushi in his mouth before following you down the hall of your apartment towards the bedroom.
What he saw is something that he really did not expect- a tall black pole was bolted from the ceiling to the floor, and it had one obvious purpose.
You laughed to yourself, "Okay, don't make fun of me yet, it really works. Just watch."
He was absolutely stunned by your words, thinking 'she can't actually be serious right now... is this her way of flirting with me?'
In all honesty-maybe it was.
He quickly figured out how seriously you were, as you reach a leg up high, wrapping your knee around the pole, letting it spin you. You let your arm lose and followed this action by grabbing the pole with your hand again, this time above your leg.
Sataru felt heat envelope his whole body. He just watched you out on a show for him, gazing across your body as it moved.
The heat traveled south.
You, the girl he had known since elementary, was in from of him, preforming some sort of performance as if it was just your every day activity.
Soon enough, you catch his gaze and let your movements cease. Your mind envelopes in worry for all the wrong reasons, thinking you've embarrassed yourself.
You blurt out, "Oh god, that was really bad wasn't it? Honestly, I kind of thought it would make you laugh-" Sataru lets you rant as he watches you step closer to him. He doesn't pay an ounce of attention to your speech, though, as he has different thoughts plaguing his mind.
He lets his intrusive thoughts take over his actions, pulling you by your waist and onto his lap. You're sputtering some words of embarrassment and confusion, but Sataru decides that the best way to ease your mind would be to pull you in with a kiss.
God, he's been waiting for this for a long time...
Geto Suguru
Telling Sugaru that you wanted to try a new profession was basically your downfall. While he fully supported you, you first requested that he not visit you at work, mostly because you were new and VERY embarrassed by your "lack of skill."
Honestly, you should have known from the start that he would never listen to you, and would take any chance to witness you being flustered and embarrassed.
You seeing your best friend waltz into the establishment while you were on shift actually turned your cheeks to a darker shade of red than humanly possible. If anyone were to be mistaken, they could've assumed you were on the brink of heat exhaustion. Thankfully, at the current moment, you were serving drinks to the VIP section when you spotted Suguru waltzing in the club.
He scanned the room, trying to catch a glimpse of you, but you duck your head a little lower as an attempt to avoid his gaze.
You took a quick check of the time before bidding your goodbyes to your guests. It was almost time for your turn on stage.
You could feel yourself start to sweat, not wanting to face the embarrassment of your best friend catching you in this state. Making your way through the crowd of men, you are interrupted by the sound of a whistle from across the room.
"Good luck out there." Suguru spoke loudly (as to be heard over the music of the club) and sent you a wink.
You rushed to the back room, face turning res, as you realize you are now definitely going to have to face this humiliating situation.
Your coworker gestures to you as she makes her way off stage, signaling it's your turn. You grab some accessories (a thin scarf- enough to leave nothing to the imagination) and you head towards the stage in a skimpy, feminine outfit.
You receive a generous round of applause from the crowd as you enter stage. The DJ starts playing some sultry music as you approach the middle of the floor and you catch yourself feeling the music.
You start by teasing the crowd, moving through your regular routine.
You pull the scarf away from your shoulders, sensually, revealing more of your cleavage from underneath. You use your scarf to wrap around the pole, moving your leg upwards in a sexy motion.
Suguru found himself getting heated in the crowd as he watched you. You were enticing to every extent. Honestly, he had never really thought about the way that your body could move until this moment, and it turned him on big time.
Recognizing these thoughts brought him to shame, trying to dismiss them. But damn, did you look good. How could you have been embarrassed when you are obviously graced with talent?
He bit his lip at the realization that his pants were becoming tighter and he knew exactly why.
As for you, you finish your set without a second thought, forgetting for a moment about your friend sitting in the audience. You waved a thankful goodbye to the crowd as they clapped their hands together, shooting off whistles.
You are making your way back to the main floor when you once again encounter your best friend, who was patiently waiting for you outside the door. The actually almost looked a little angry? Was he.. Jealous?
"Hey, Suguru, uhm, how did you like it..?" You asked while rubbing your shoulders, trying to console your own embarrassment.
He replies, raising his chin up in a flirtatious manner, "Oh, I liked it, alright. Maybe from now on i'll have to make private appointments.."
Toji Fushiguro
Being Tojis coworker meant that he always had his eyes on you. So when you casually mentioned to him that you had gotten a side job at the local club, it definitely caught his attention.
It was his idea to go out on a guys night to the same establishment this weekend- a total coincidence, of course.
Him and the guys walked into the club, instantly dispersing into their own areas of pleasure- a couple to the bar, another, off to the dance floor to flirt with some women- but Toji instantly had his eyes on the stage, hoping to catch a glimpse of you.
Toji really wasn't shy about his attraction to you, so you have a smokin hot body? Nothin' else to it. Just here to give some oh so loving support to his coworker..
A bouncer walked up to where he sat in the lounge, offering him some drinks, effectively starting his tab for the night. He was served a glass of whiskey, carefully gripping the glass in his hand as he started downing the liquor.
It took one or two performers to finally catch a glimpse of you on the stage. You were adorned in black and waltzing out onto the stage to a sultry song. You didn't seem to pay much mind to the crowd, and definitely not noticing your close friend in the audience.
You started your usual routine, wrapping yourself sensually around the pole, soaking in the sea of eyes in you from around the club. Toji took notice of this, letting out a loud whistle, hoping it would catch your attention away from all the other gazes.
Toji took his eyes off of you for only a mere couple of seconds to look around the room. All eyes were on you as your performance had gained the attention of almost all of the patrons, who had previously been occupied with their own pleasures. This made Toji's stomach start to burn with jealously.
He returned his eyes back to you as you finished the end of your set. He stood up, clapping with the rest of the crowd- this did, however, catch your attention as you walked off the stage, giving a polite wave to the club before disappearing off stage.
You felt your cheeks burn and you lowered your gaze to the black floor, which made a small 'click' with each step of your heels. You really haven't had any shame involving your profession until now, but for some reason you couldn't feel anything other than embarrassment.
You knew that the best way to deal with this was to go out into the crowd and find him, maybe to settle your worries.
You slide through the curtain that separated the crowd from the back stage area, to find Toji once again laying back in his seat in the lounge. This time, he held a sweet cigarette to his lips. He takes one last huff as he watches you strut towards him before tossing it to the nearest ash tray.
"So? You couldn't get enough of me at work?" You question slyly. You assumed he has only come here to embarrass you, but the look in his eye makes you think differently.
A low chuckle falls from his lips as he rises to meet your gaze. "I can't say you're wrong, sweetheart. But that show you gave was more than enough..." His voice was deep and he punctuated his words by laying a seductive hand to your waist. You could tell that he was tipsy but that didn't stop your cheeks from burning at his flirtatious actions. "How about we leave these losers to gawk and catch a room of our own?"
He didn't exactly leave you room to argue as he started pulling your wrist to the nearest exit, not that you really cared to protest anyway.

oikawa tōru’s route
from this post!
reader x oikawa tōru (best friends to lovers)
headcanons | 600+ words | gender neutral
warnings: this is unedited!!!
————————
- of all people, you didn’t think that you’d fall for your childhood friend, oikawa tōru
- it all started when he came by your house, asking if you wanted to play with him and his friend iwaizumi
- his mom and sister love you, and always joked that you were tōru’s little s/o (causing little oikawa to blush and grab your hand as a flustered habit)
- from that day on, the three (3) of you stayed as friends, attracted to the hip until high school
- when you realized that you liked tōru in your first year of high school, all of the once friendly habits left you butterflies
- from how he likes ruffling your hair, putting his arm over your shoulder, meeting your glance in the classroom- it all left you hoping for more from him
- not really minding if your other bestie knew, you first told iwaizumi about your crush, and if he were honest he knew the whole time
- despite the hints of your interest in him, oikawa was oblivious..
- we all know how he thrives in the attention of his fans, and you’d be lying if you were to tell iwa that you didn’t care- and although it did hurt him to see you this dejected, he respected your wishes and never told oikawa
- by your third year, you were a strong and independent individual. you were still best friends with both oikawa and iwaizumi, but your feelings for oikawa never faltered.. even tho you were trying to deny these ‘unwanted’ feelings
- and oikawa being himself, he didn’t exclude you from his flirty shenanigans, leaving the whole team and bestie iwa to witness your mutual pining, EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU DROPPED BY THEIR PRACTICES OR HUNG OUT WITH THEM (!)
- it was when you saw how oikawa sizzled down his flirting with the fans when iwa told you how oikawa returned your feelings
- now, kinda silly of you, you thought that iwa was kidding and continued doing you
- although oikawa still continued to pin after you, so after telling iwaizumi his whole elaborate plan on how he’d confess to you, he decided to go in for the kill, execute his plan on the day you both met, way back when
- poor iwaizumi hajime, he deserves a lot for having to deal with you both
- on said day, oikawa seemed to be nervous- a little out of character for him, but you didn’t look into it,, and asked you if he could walk you home after practice
- when you went to met him, you were also sure to greet iwa and when you asked if anything was wrong with oikawa. he simply gave you a knowing smile and ruffled your hair, sending you on your way.
- the whole walk was unintentionally awkward, with the unaddressed tension in the air,, so you both didn’t talk until you asked him about it, in front of your house
- as the moon shone above, he let you know how he felt about you,, so sincerely with words from the heart.
“listen, recently, i’m not sure why i barely realized this now, but i feel like i’ve actually felt like this forever. throughout our whole friendship, yn, i’ve been in love with you. all of the simple things you do, the sound of your laugh, the way your so caring towards others and i- it’s just,” he gave a small laugh before meeting your eyes before taking a deep breath, “you just take my breath away.. would you go out with me?”
- he was overwhelmed when you accepted his confession, immediately hugging you and kissing your cheek
- all was well, until your mom called for you from the porch and playfully scolding oikawa for seeing someone this late
- the two of you parted with a high five quick kiss, leaving oikawa to stare lovingly at your figure as you let yourself in..
- you were ultimately in love with your best friend

what they would never, ever tell you!!
fluff. gn!reader. no warnings. like, reblog, feedback!
✧ heeseung has never told you this, but he'd actually tried sixteen times to muster up the courage to ask for your number and a date. it had taken him an entire year, sixteen tries, and five meltdowns to finally approach you and not instantly turn back around in a moment of weakness. he would never tell you that, however, because he thinks that you believe him to be a suave man. what you don't have the heart to tell heeseung is that jay had snitched on him and his various failures. you think it's adorable, so when you first teased him with this information, he'd gone pink as the cotton candies in your hands.
✧ jay will take this secret to his grave and not for reasons you may think. it had been two years into your relationship with him preparing sweet little lunch boxes for you to enjoy during your days of working and it had just occurred to you that he must have payed an honestly concerning amount of money on your groceries. when you had asked him about it, he'd laughed, shaken his head and brushed it off. this was the one thing in life he would want to do without a single payment back. he simply loves you to the moon and back, unconditionally. let him keep at least this to himself.
✧ jake was the person who'd bring stacks of well-taken and organized copies of his notes and put it under your desk back when you were at school. the mysterious, generous note giver had never revealed themselves to you for years. the writings on the papers were the biggest reason why you were so successful those years and it had crushed you not being able to thank the person properly other than stick-it notes you'd past under your desk for them to see whenever they came by. four years later when you'd reunited with jake and started a relationship with him, you realize how awfully familiar the handwriting looks.
✧ sunghoon would rather dive off a cliff than to explain what the clanging sounds in the kitchen for the past two weeks has been all about. you weren't allowed to enter it to help him with whatever he was doing, too. it would be your birthday soon and he'd fought tooth and nail to get every ingredient he'd ever need in order to make you the world's best birthday cake yet. the issue was the fact that he didn't know how to bake— not a single clue under the roof. so, he's taken it upon himself to practice making cakes every day until he could get it right. so far, every attempt has been a total failure. he still has a few days, so until then, he swears you off the kitchen.
✧ sunoo had written a few lengthy love letters to you as a child, not that he would ever tell you. he was eight years old and a hopeless romantic. he would spend hours coming up with rhymes for his poems about you and include them in the letters confessing his love for you. he was utterly smitten and charmed by your cute littles smiles (still is now). he'd never sent them to you, though, in fear of rejection, so he'd hid the notes in a box under his bedroom. ten years later, you were hanging out in the very same childhood bedroom and your feet hit a plastic box in the corner of his room. once sunoo sees the box and remembers about the contents in it, he feels absolutely mortified.
✧ jungwon was popular all throughout his childhood and teen years with many admirers, boys and girls alike. he was, however, thought to be uninterested in any romance, because he would instantly reject anyone that approached him. the small detail that no one knows about is how he'd walk the same route home a few times a day in hopes of one day catching your eyes from behind window as he'd pass by. no matter which clothes he wore or how he'd styled his hair, his subtle attempts would never work. months of hard work and the only thing that had worked was just going up to the counter with a box of juice and a small paper with a series of digits written on it.
✧ riki is a prideful boy and it would destroy his fragile ego if you knew how he'd stayed up a few nights and searched for tips on how to make someone like you on google's incognito mode. he was clueless and desperate to get you to like him as much as he liked you, so he'd scrolled through many wiki hows and blog articles. he even took a compatibility test to see how you matched and he prayed that you wouldn't ask why he was asking for your time of birth and star sign. you didn't ask, thankfully, and you did end up reciprocating his feelings in the end, but only because he'd charmed his way to your heart on his own— not because of wikihow's tips.

The ones he's far too afraid to say when you're awake. pairing high school!gojo satoru x f!reader tags gojo is annoying (canon.....)warnings little bit of childhood gojo angst word count 1.3k links collection ; taglist
this is an additional chapter of my series "caught in the middle", if you enjoyed this, consider checking it out! 🩵
At first, you confuse the blaring noise with the sound of your alarm, so in a weird way, you're almost relieved when your left eye opens a little to discover the moon is still up, shining through the cracks in your blinds. It was practically full tonight, you note, so close one could confuse it for being full already.
You grin at the thought of having a few more hours of sleep before getting up. That is if, whoever decided to call you at this ungodly hour would make it quick.
You were hoping for a spam call or a wrong number, but when the name Gojo glared back at you, your hope for some rest evaporated in front of your squinting eyes.
"What?"
"Wooow, is that a way to say good morning to your best friend, hmm?"
"It's not morning, nor is it good."
"You didn't deny I was your best friend, though."
You sigh. Placing the phone next to your head, you let yourself fall back into the pillow. It was now slightly colder, something that eased your misery.
"I'm so telling Shoko!"
"Did you need something, Gojo?" You try to get back on topic, knowing that was close to impossible considering it's Gojo. There's a raspiness in your voice that Satoru's lacked, telling you he must have been up these past few hours.
"No, just wanted someone to talk to, and Suguru still has my number blocked!"
"... that's an excellent idea, actually."
"You wouldn't! Don't even pretend," he smiles. The smugness in his voice would have annoyed you if you were more awake.
"So, how was your day?" He finally speaks, and you can hear his smile.
"Was okay, work was boring, but I didn't have to do much cuz Aki was there."
"Aki…? " You heard him mumble under his breath, deep in thought, "Ahh, I remember! That little brown-haired guy with the big fat crush on you!"
You make a noise of agreement.
"What's up with him? He still into you?"
"Mmm, I dunno, maybe. But more importantly! Today, this guy came in and offered me 3000 yen if I would go and eat with him!"
"No way, that's not enough," Satoru scoffed in disbelief.
"It's really not! And He was like three times my age or something. It was really gross."
The two of you are silent for a little. Satoru doesn't mind. He even thinks you've fallen asleep for a second there. He's sitting by the windowsill, it's not cold underneath his skin, and his bear back against the wall felt as though they were the same temperature. He lets himself get lost in the thoughts of how warm your hands were in comparison, how everything about you radiated a warmth he could never really produce on his own. He longed for it, both to be warm and to feel yours.
The thought that you would probably flinch away at his cold touch made him frown, and he wondered if that was the only reason. Hoped that if his hands were just a little warmer, there would be a content smile on your face instead, and you'd simply squeeze it back.
"How was your day?" You finally ask in return.
His head snaps towards his phone screen, he got so lost in his thoughts he forgot you were still there.
"Good. I've been thinking about your book and... what I said about it. I thought maybe I should give it a try," Satoru smiles, "so I can properly make fun of it, of course."
You hum, "Didn't know you could read."
He ignores your comment.
"But you have to lend me your copy. I'm too embarrassed to have that in my purchase history."
You huff in disbelief.
"I'm sure you've got worse things in there. Remember when Shoko found your-"
"Okaaay , enough!" he interrupts, raising his voice just enough to cut you off. The little giggle he can hear along with the rustling of your sheets brings a grin to his face nonetheless.
"So that's why you called me? To have small talk and cadge my romance novels?"
The question makes him frown, and he dislikes the thought that you'd assume he'd need a reason to call you in the first place.
He wonders if Suguru sometimes calls you just because, if you fall asleep on the phone together or send each other little updates on your days. He wonders if you would have answered with a more lively tone and quicker if it was his best friend.
He counted five rings when he called.
"I guess…" he begins, but you accept this as an answer already, unaware Satoru was playing with the drawstring of his pants, trying his hardest to mutter the words burning on the tip of his tongue.
"I guess I just missed you," he finally breaths.
He's met with silence and hates it, tapping a rhythm against the window to break it.
"Did you hear me?" He whispers, embarrassment and disappointment washing over him.
You don't respond.
He counts about 3 minutes to conclude you've fallen asleep again, and it's confirmed when he can hear your soft breathing through the phone.
Tiptoeing towards his mattress, he lays down, puts the phone on his pillow and scoots over a little. He doesn't bother putting the blanket over his body, knowing it wouldn't make a difference. He assumes this is how you must be lying right now, and he imagines turning his head, closing his phone and finding you lying there.
Warm and breathing, softly.
"To be honest… I've been having this dream about you lately, and..." Satoru waits, in case you woke up again, in case you were pretending to sleep or actually on the toilet without telling him earlier.
He waits for just about five rings.
"I'm kinda scared I'll have that dream again... I've never really had that, you know."
It must be the almost full moon that makes him so melancholic tonight as he reflects on his life thus far. The empty apartment he stayed in during holidays, big enough for a family of three generations, the one his father had dismissively given him the key to.
Occupied just by Satoru, the house was cold, even during the summer. It was quiet most of the time, simply lacking the warmth of being lived in, of people.
He remembered back in middle school, playing tennis for a year and hockey for two after that. He remembers walking home from tournaments, his racket or helmet tossed in the trash on the way somewhere to make space for a trophy he was hoping to hide, putting them at the bottom of his drawer as soon as he entered his room. He'd announce he quit the club on the dinner table and it was met with a hum or silence.
During all this, he remembers training with his mother every evening and with his trainer every morning and noon. He remembers wearing his best clothes on the weekends and sitting beside his aunts as they gushed about their nephew.
"The future head of the Gojo clan."
He had heard this phrase in a million tones, in a million ways, from a million people.
Laced into their tone was often malice, jealousy, pity and occasionally pride.
"I've never really…" he starts, and he suddenly feels like crying. He remembers a conversation with you long ago, which makes the feeling in his chest even heavier. "... had something to dream about."
His next breaths are shaky, and he's surprised by the sound of them.
He wonders if you can hear it through the phone.
He stays like that, lying on his back, hand on his chest as he listens to the pounding of his heart matching his uneven breathing.
"Anyway... It's late," he looks at the clock on his nightstand: 3.07, next to it is a picture of the four of you in your first year, Shoko's face pressed against yours, you're smiling brightly one arm around her and the other around Suguru, who holds back a grin as he looks at you. Satoru is standing next to him, arm on his shoulder, eyes closed.
"Too late, maybe," he chuckles drily.
"Goodnight," he whispers, before a bittersweet smile dares to form on his lips, "dream of me too, okay?"
He hangs up before you can answer.

warms-ups | osamu + nsfw + cream

There's something about Osamu Miya that sends your spine tingling.
A divine kind of irony, because upon meeting them - you always preferred his brother. Atsumu is approachable to you, always has been. Poorly dyed blonde hair, with big round eyes and a signature pout that you've hardly seen him without. Atsumu is expressive and extroverted - at times deeply stupid in a way that's incredibly endearing.
You've known the Miya twins since you were snot-nosed brats though (long before the poor box dye), and it was easier for you to be alone with Atsumu. Atsumu took up so much space in a room that you never have to worry about fitting yourself in. He fills every place with his presence in a way that lets you hide behind him. Atsumu is like the sun.
And in contrast, Osamu is a lot like the moon. It took you a little longer to understand him, especially when you were young. They were twins but Osamu felt mature in comparison. Embodied a story of level, steadiness that left you unsettled.
(You learn later that this is a deceitful interpretation. Both of the Miya twins are petty and ridiculous - it's just that Osamu schemes it and Atsumu wears it on his sleeve)
Osamu has been a mystery to you since you can remember. He was never expressive enough for you to figure it out well, your exchanges being brief and stilted. It got less awkward gradually, a sense of acceptance settling in as you entered your teen years.
There's something valuable about being alone with someone, in complete comfortable silence. At 15, Osamu Miya felt a lot like an old couch. A place to come back to, with achey feet. A place you'd fall asleep, with your jeans still on and your head somewhere else.
You were there for their many milestones. When they got into Inarizaki, when they played all their games. You were there for their metaphorical break-up as they got to adulthood and you all parted ways to your different paths in life.
You still saw the Miya twins on a semi-frequent basis. You and Osamu were the first people Atsumu always called. Always in group messages and calls. When you finally graduated college, you landed a job close to the very Onigiri Miya opened.
It was probably about then. It wasn't like you hadn't always known about how good looking the Miya twins were. Your friends used to practically beg you to set them up and you don't blame them. But Atsumu always felt like a little brother to you and...
Osamu felt...not like that. But it wasn't like you could process that information at any point. Swept up in life, in teenage insecurity (because damnit, Osamu was always ridiculously good looking too) and in the general awkwardness of crushing on someone you've known since diapers - you tried to ignore it.
You thought those butterflies would die if you suffocated them, so you buried your nose in the books. Grew from a girl into a woman, into a fully bloomed person all in a few years. None of it mattered, because spending time with Osamu always seems to make you feel 15 again.
You don't quite know when it happened. One day of deciding to do your work in a booth at Onigiri Miya turned into many, and it seems like you and Osamu see each other a lot lately.
Osamu Miya is a lot bigger than his brother, you learn quickly. Atsumu is lean from his setting, muscular in a lithe way. Natural agility all befitting of his slippery character.
Osamu, too, has grown in a way befitting of his personality. Osamu got bigger. Started hitting the weights enough that he's muscular, soft and sturdy, the kind you can only see when he flexes. They're both still tall, but Osamu... is big.
Osamu is also, very handsome. Aware of it too, because he usually uses it to reel in customers. His face is different to you. Osamu looks less like a boy you grew up and more like a man you'd squeeze your legs together thinking about.
But even now, you don't understand what thoughts Osamu has about you.
You thought you were imagining it. The intensity of his gaze when he peeked at you from the counter. The subtle touches and plates of food you didn't pay for. Maybe he felt like he should take care of on old friend. Maybe the low way he whispered in your ear telling you "take care on yerr way home," were just your imagination playing tricks.
You only learn it late, taste-testing recipes in the back of his kitchen that it was all very intentional. It's your fault for forget Osamu is the kind of person to scheme.
A little sake in your system has you stumbling over your words. In the midst of your bumbling - all it takes is one, "I've always liked you" to entangle yourself with Osamu Miya.
A little kissing, a little touching - the way he coaxes you is so much like him. Subtle but overwhelming, a full moon in a deep sky.
In the back of Onigiri Miya, Osamu has your panties around your ankle. The warmth of alcohol is bubbling in your chest and embarrassment is rushing through every vein in your body - you want to shy away from him.
Of course, Osamu won't let you. You've got your arms around his shoulder, thick neck against your forearms. Your legs are up in the air, and your back is so hot against the cool metal. All you can feel his him in the air around you. He smells like a man who works, sweat and skin and salt.
You can feel the euphoria in your body to the point it's gut-wrenching, an overwhelming sensation like you're anxious. It's hard to describe. Tacky from sweat, you feel your fingers tremble as you move your hands to squeeze his shoulder.
Osamu puts his hand over it, squeezes it, kisses your wrists with all the affection of over two decades of desire. You feel it all over your body, delirium setting in. You want him so much you don't know what do. You whine, open your mouth to say his name.
Osamu shushes you. His cock is hard, thick and so heavy. He's got hair that tickles your legs. You can feel the tip press into your clit like he's kissing it, pushing against the soft folds of your pussy makes you shiver. Arousal drips out of you, a fruit squeezed in big hands that pick them. You want to cry.
"Samu," You mumble, your lips sheen and your heart in your belly "Osamu, please,"
"Look at you," He says, sounding just as bad as you "Wantin' it so bad. Never seen ya like this,"
You've never been like this. You don't get it yourself. Why you're head feels so blank. Your jaw feels heavy like you can't close it. Inside it's all empty and you want to be so full of him, surrounded by him.
"I don't know," You hiccup, holding him so tight. You want to sob "I really want you. Wan' you to want me too,"
Osamu laughs. God, it sounds good. Deep and throaty.
"I do. Ya know I do, don't ya? Our whole lives. My whole life."
"Osamu," You repeat. He laughs a little, maybe like he's amused. It feels so merciful when kisses you. The feeling of your bare chest against his makes you feel euphoric, skin practically begging for his attention.
"That's right, 's me" He says, trailing his lips down your neck "I'm already here,"
He doesn't ask you for anymore, so it feels like he's reading your mind. His fingers grip your hips as he eases his cock inside of you. Inch, by agonizing inch - you can feel it. The rubbing of such sensitive skin. You gasp and tighten your legs, crossing your feet at the ankle. You hold his back and feel your eyes roll over into your head. Pleasure pulls you apart.
"Oh, oh fuck," You feel your nails dig into his skin, Osamu hisses "Y-yeah, yeah, like that."
You don't know where you start and Osamu stops. It's all the same, one mess of limbs and one train of thought where your feelings swallow you up. Your heartbeat beats against your ribs and you feel like you can't handle. Osamu eases into you slow, his cock makes you so full. You can't take in enough air for how much it pushes out, walls taking shape of him naturally.
"So damn good," He says with all the force in the world. You think Osamu means it when he says you wants you "Shit."
"Please fuck me."
"Till ya can't take it, yeah? Promise, promise I will."
"Want you to cum in me," You admit, shame disappearing as the seconds pass. As Osamus cock fucks you open enough to confess about it "Over 'n over,"
"Want me to cream in you so bad? Yerr so dirty, where'd you go 'n learn that from huh?" He taunts, but it's not mean. You whimper as you roll your hips, your clit throbbing's with need.
"Please, pretty please?"
"Anything for you," He says, and you feel your insides tremble with need - even buried to the tilt. He pulls out in one swift motion, pushing back in with the same force as before. You cry out his name and your body loses it's strength "Take it f'r me, okay?"

So I vaguely remember Huohua was supposed to be the girl Itachi had a crush on? Or maybe I'm mixing him up with someone else. Either way, I think Huohua should, in fact, be Itachi's gay awakening at like 7 years old, and that's how Itachi-nii gets his loser friend.
And he does this by being the way bigger loser because he follows Huohua around like a lost duck and just... helps him with stuff. He tries to buy him dango (Itacgi's favorite treat), and then when that doesn't work, he buys him tomatoes (Sasuke's favorite treat), and when that doesn't work, he does not ask what Huohua likes, instead he stalks him and tries to figure it out on his own. Which would be super creepy as an adult, but the kid is like 8, so it's just kinda cute. A little scary because he does actually have sneaking skills, but mostly cute because he takes notes on everything Huohua buys, but the notes are like "bought milk. Give him a cow?!?! Picked flower. Buy him flower garden!?!?"in crayon with little doodle hearts on the edges of the pages. Huohua, of course, sees him as a child who has a puppy crush and doesn't quite have the heart to tell him off, and so is just waiting for said puppy crush to die off on it's own.
And then the massacre happens.
And it doesn't make any sense!
Itachi was such a sweet kid. His favorite moves were all non-lethal take downs, he would always offer Huohua his last dango ball even though dango was his favorite, he would help small kids walk home or hunt down a KPF officer to help them if they were lost. He hated killing, Huohua once saw him cry because he found a very small snake and it didn't have any legs, because it was a snake, but that was apparently a tragedy because it "couldn't run and be free".
So Huohua has a lots of mixed emotions, a lot of suspicions from being an author himself, and a lot of... not quite pining, but he misses Itachi's puppy love gestures, as selfish as that feels. Misses being offered dango he didn't want, misses having a shadow that took meticulous yet adorably stupid notes in him, misses seeing him kneel down next to a child half their size and seeing someone far too young act so old and responsible.
And then.
And then they meet again.
And fuck, Itachi's gotten kinda hot.
Look, the kid was- well, a kid. So all his actions were of an adorable kid who didn't know the person he had a crush on was actually unattainable. But now - because Itachi still has that puppy crush that is starting to look less like a crush and something more like eternally burning love unique to the Uchiha - but now. Now Itachi is a fully grown man and he's kinda fucking hot.
He has wrinkles! Huohua is hundreds of years old, okay? Wrinkles are kinda hot to him. And he's- not nice, currently, what with being a missing-nin, but there are traces of his childhood friend Itachi in there still. He uses those non-lethal take downs he used to practice non-stop, he still tucks his chin into his chest when he tries to meet Huohua's eyes, he still-
He still looks at Huohua like he hung the moon and like Itachi torn it down against his own will.
And then he coughs blood and leaves.
Just leaves. Just like that. Shows off what is clearly supposed to be the illness that kills him, leaving Sasuke unsatisfied in his revenge and setting him down the road of villainy, sends one last look of utter longing at Huohua, and then he just fucking leaves.
Fuck that. Fuck this. Fuck the system, fuck the story, fuck it all.
Huohua is bringing Itachi home and he's going to cure him and make him eat dango and then Itachi is going to offer Huohua the last dango ball and Huohua is going to accept it for the first time because it's no longer stealing candy from a child, it's sharing a treat with someone he-
Someone he-
Someone he loves.
IM YELLING !!! I WAS LITERALLY JUST THINKING AB HOW ITACHI IS TEXTBOOK SHANG QUINGHUA'S TYPE TOO, HOUHUA IS SO FUCKED
You're right ! Houhua reincarnated as Izumi, who was supposed to be Itachi's love interest as a kid (before he went and fucking killed her along with everyone else, rip)
He does NOT know he is supposed to be a love interest (probably for the best tbh, I feel like it'd be easy for him to get weird and ethical about it if he had to think ab the implications of Itachi possibly being "forced" to like him due only to his character role) so any crush directed towards him will be a fucking surprise attack
Poor Houhua <3
I'm crying at tiny baby stalker Itachi, I think they should get to he eachothers first school friends. I think Houhua didn't have many friends as a kid. His natural Houhua-ness was cranked up a bit when he was younger due to just kid hormones and kid-wired mind fucking with his emotions and reactions even more than they might have as an adult. + as adult man trapped in a child's body, he does not how to convincingly act like a normal kid and this lead to him being labeled as a total weirdo by both his peers and some adults
Houhua himself never really cared, so what if he isnt invited to some 6 year olds birthday party! Hes a grown man! But every once in a while he'll get kinda melancholy about it— again, I think he's heavily affected by the physical state his little kid brain is at that age, so his reactions can be a bit,, different than he may have reacted when older
But like. Outcast weirdo Houhua and untouchable, unsociable clan heir Itachi ,, they are friends and no one really talks to either of them
(Once he gets older, I think Houhua gets to work at trying to network w people. He,, doesn't really ever make any friends, but who needs friends? Not him! He has a network of acquaintances who owe him a whole lot of things and favors, and that's better than any friendship, yknow!)
Also they're both the most mature in their age bracket and I think that might help Itachi identify with him a bit more
ANYWAYS
Itachi develops a sudden interest in learning how to make handpulled noodles bc he hears Houhua complaining about craving some,,
Houhua straight up does NOT notice his crush, it just isn't smthn he's capable of registering at the time bc in his eyes Itachi's a kid. Also bc Itachi is his only friend, he's seeing all his little kind acts and going "omg,, my bro is so sweet,, the bonds of friendship are so nice,,"
I think Houhua absoloutley has a thing for just being treated well and having him and his work be visibly valued, I think he gets incredibly touched by acts like that and Itachi treating him in any sort of special way is absoloutley at path directly into his heart.
I also love the idea of him missing Itachi after everything, missing the things he used to do for him, missing feeling valued (although Sasuke tries his best, it's not the same)
He also just... misses his friend.
Meanwhile, Itachi, who went toe to toe with Houhua during the massacre— ultimatley winning but only after a very surprising struggle, deals with not just the guilt of the massacre but the burning question of why and how Houhua had been lying to him about how strong he was. Lying to not just him, but to everyone.
Successfully.
Itachi himself never shares with anyone about the struggle, not to Konoha in his reports about the Akatsuki, nor to "Madara". But he lies awake at night and retraces the steps of their fight and he burns
There's suddenly this really complicated issue in his heart of like— he can no longer turn Houhua into this perfect martyr to feel guilty over like he can with Sasuke. (Though he still of course feels weighed down by the guilt of all he's done) because there's tangible proof that Houhua was not everything Itachi thought. There's layers now, there's a mystery, Itachi is no longer completely in the driving seat of the fucking car crash in progress that is their story like he is with Sasuke's.
Where as in the original canon, Izumi joins the faces of those Itachi killed, as a girl he can claim to have killed gentler than the others, a memory of this perfect, innocent girl Itachi betrayed, another tally on his list of crimes—
Houhua leaves Itachi, bogged down with guilt but also reeling with "what the fuck was that"
(A silent notification appears in Houhua's inbox, congratulating him on changing the narrative in such a creative way)
I think Itachi may have been able to tear himself away from his affection for Houhua (and allow his affection for Sasuke to win out overall) if only Houhua hadn't left him with such a powerful mystery to weigh him down
Good going Houhua!! Ur so good at this narrative thing <3
ANYWAYS THEIR REUNION HAPPENING AND HOUHUA GOING "oh no he's HOT" HAS ME IN STITCHES THO I NEED THAT ACTUALLY. THATS CANON NOW.
Also the detail of Houhua finding his wrinkles attractive is actually really cute, I love that!!
Sasuke will genuinley lose his fucking MIND if he catches even a hint of Houhua being attracted to Itachi, and not in a funny way. Houhua look him in the eyes. Look him in the eyes and tell him you find his big brother who tortured him and murdered their entire family hot. Say it to his face.
No but I think Houhua has major suspicions ab Itachi and at some point he'll have to share them with Sasuke. He literally has no reason not to and comes to be very fond of the kid, so. The only question is when— both when does he tell Sasuke and when does he really gain enough meat to his theory of "something isn't right here" ab the massacre to really start piecing together any sort of coherent thought other than suspicion
I hate u actually bc I'm suddenly SO sold on a Houhua and Itachi romance of some kind, this is so compelling and interesting to me. But also Mobei Jun is wandering around somewhere as Jun and Houhua is going to run into him eventually and have to face his own relationship drama
Itachi pulling his fucking hair out out of confusion when Houhua manifests his mangekyou for this fucking random Kiri missing nin he literally only JUST met
(I don't think Itachi likes being left in the dark when it comes to things he cares ab very much, definite control freak energy. Houhua is driving him insane)
I think that Itachi and Jun may have gotten along actually, but Itachi catches wind of Houhua having a seemingly giant fucking crush on him and is suddenly filled with inexplicable rage, actually
Let them have actually worked together previously or smthn, that'd be funny. They worked together a couple times and had a good rapport— maybe akatsuki actually wants or wanted to recruit him? That could actually be kinda fun
Oh fuck that could also totally parallel svsss bc there's no way that Jun would want to join them, busy with his own shit of wanting to take over Kiri. But just like with Deidara, they can strong arm him into joining under threat of death just like Bingghe did to MBJ !!
I love parallels

I feel like I haven't really seen the fe3h fandom talk too much about how clearly Azure Moon is an adaptation of Hamlet. Like not even subtly Hamlet (like, see, he's the lion king, get it, haha, because... It's Hamlet).
Dimitri is obvious; he's the prince whose uncle has become king, due to a conspiracy he's trying to uncover, spurred on by his murdered father's restless ghost. Pursuing this vengeance drives him mad, and he becomes increasingly erratic as vengeance continues to escape him.
Dedue is Horatio; Hamlet's best friend (but one he met more recently than his other friends), always at his side and loyal no matter how far Hamlet falls, but formal with him right up until Hamlet dies for his revenge. Crimson Flower Dedue practically delivers the "Goodnight, sweet prince" line in the game if you defeat him before he can transform himself.
The rest spends a lot of effort making subversions; Rufus is Claudius, and this is played straight in Three Hopes, where Dimitri gets justice before he loses his mind and so he never reaches the depths of despair he does in Azure Moon. But in Three Houses this gets subverted; Rufus is still actually the Claudius, but Dimitri has miscast Edelgard in the role. This also allows Patricia to serve as Gertrude, forcing Dimitri to grapple with whether his (step)mother was complicit in his father's murder and whether she has more loyalty to the murderer than to him. Rufus then shifts into the Polonius role, as it's after his death (allegedly at the hand of Dimitri himself) that everything starts going to shit.
Felix, meanwhile, I think is Laertes (with Glenn and Rodrigue serving as Ophelia and Polonius for him (side side note I personally think Glenn was one of Dimitri's first crushes but that's neither here nor there)). The death of one curdles Laertes's positive childhood friendship feelings towards Hamlet (and Felix towards Dimitri) and then the death of the second fully solidifies Laertes's feeling that Hamlet must be stopped.
In Azure Moon, this gets subverted, in that Dimitri reverses course here, where Hamlet doubles down. As a result, Laertes turns his sword against Hamlet, while Felix returns to a shaky companionship with Dimitri. But crucially, if Felix does get recruited to other routes and turns his sword against Dimitri, he basically cannot have a happy ending - the same way Laertes dies for turning against Hamlet.
I don't have a snappy conclusion or anything (are Ingrid and Sylvain Rosencrantz and Guildenstern? Unclear) but I think it's fascinating.

Part 1 (below cut) | Part 2 (posted 2/2) | Part 3 (posted 2/6) | Part 4 (posted 2/10) | Part 5 (posted 2/14) | Part 6 (posted 4/2) | Part 7 (posted 7/29) | Part 8 (posted 5/13)
Austin 2002
“Hey, Sweetpea!”
You looked up at the sound of your childhood nickname, not sure right away who was calling for you. In a small town familiarity was de rigueur. You went to school with people referred to exclusively as Cooter, Biggie, and Ears, so it could have been worse.
You were waiting for the bus just outside the school cafeteria when your brother, Paul, came over in his football uniform. He almost never talked to you at school, so you figured he wanted something. He was old for his grade and had made the varsity team as a sophomore; your parents were over-the-moon. In your opinion, it had gone to his head.
“You have a dollar? I want to get a gatorade before practice.”
“Here,” you dug through your purse and fished out your last dollar, rolling your eyes as he sprinted off toward the vending machines without so much as a thank you.
“We’re going to the mall when Andy gets out of practice, you wanna come?” Your best friend, Cheryl, asked.
“I can’t,” you said. “I’m babysitting.”
“Nah,” your friend Mercedes teased. “She’s got a hot date with Papi Joel.”
“Oh my God,” Cheryl laughed. “That’s so messed up, stop it.”
“Yeah, that’s super weird,” you laughed along, hoping they wouldn’t notice the blush rising in your cheeks.
The truth was, you had long-harbored a crush on your handsome neighbor down the block: rugged good looks and soulful brown eyes, hardworking, good with his hands, a loving father, the whole package left you feeling weak in the knees. But you would never say so, not even to your best friend. As nice as it was to daydream about, you knew it could never happen and admitting it would just make you look desperate and pathetic.
“Seriously though,” Mercedes insisted. “If you had to pick a dad, he’s primo DILF material.”
“JJ’s dad is kinda hot,” Tina said, stubbing out her joint on the sidewalk ramp.
“JJ’s dad isn’t hot,” Mercedes corrected. “He just lets us party in his barn–besides, clearly Mr. Miller has ulterior motives. What 12 year old still needs a babysitter?”
It was true, Sarah was getting a little old for a sitter, but Joel still asked you to keep an eye on her. You figured he wanted her to have another girl to talk to. Someone older and wiser she could confide in about bullies, to go shopping with her, and teach her how to use a tampon. On paper, you were a certified good-influence: a church-going honors student, marching band, a literal Girl Scout.
Joel couldn’t afford to pay you much, but he was a good guy. He kept your favorite snacks in the house and gave you rides when your daddy wouldn’t let you use the Jeep; last summer he had installed a phone jack in your room so you could have your own line. More than that, Sarah was actually a pretty cool kid; you liked hanging out with her.
“Seriously, Mercedes,” you warned. “I know you’re just fucking around, but you can’t talk like that. Not at school. That’s the kind of shit that got Mr. Spaden put on a watchlist.”
“That and flashing sixth period APUSH,” Mercedes laughed.
“He’s like a widower, right?” Tina asked. “Kind of emo.”
Your brow furrowed.
“I don’t know,” you admitted. “They don’t really talk about Sarah’s mom.”
“I mean, she has to be dead, right?” Cheryl said. “What kind of mom would just abandon her kid like that?”
You shrugged. “Maybe that’s why they don’t talk about her.”
The Millers’ house was just two streets over from yours. At 4pm you met Sarah at her bus stop and walked her home.
“So how was school?” you asked.
Sarah shrugged. “You know, it’s school.”
You wrapped an arm around Sarah, giving her an encouraging squeeze as you walked.
“Guess what I brought,” you said, reaching into your bag for your copy of Clueless on dvd. “We can make popcorn and paint our nails, give you a little makeover. What do you think?”
“Sounds good,” Sarah leaned into you. “As long as you use real butter this time. None of that diet crap that gave me the shits.”
“Well excuse me,” you rolled your eyes. “Not all of us can be effortlessly thin.”
You ordered pizza–an indulgence, but Joel insisted on treating when he had to work late–and put on the movie. By the time the credits rolled your mani-pedis had time to set, so you brought out your makeup bag and let Sarah pick out a CD to put in the stereo–some twangy duet. A man and a woman singing along to a surprisingly cheerful tune.
Bye bye love, bye bye happiness Hello loneliness, I think I’m gonna cry…
“What happened to Destiny’s Child?” you asked.
“Nothing,” Sarah stuck her tongue out. “It’s one of my dad’s.”
You knew Sarah had more alternative sensibilities–even more than yours–and sometimes struggled to fit in. She didn’t shop at Hollister and Abercrombie, she didn’t have straight hair and pencil-thin eyebrows. She didn’t even have a traditional family. Everyone wanted to belong somewhere, but you hoped with a little guidance, Sarah could avoid some of the pitfalls you had faced in high school and figure out she didn’t have to change herself for the sake of others.
“You don’t have to like something just because your dad does,” you said as Sarah took a seat on the carpet beside you. “You have to decide for yourself–make your own way in the world.”
“For your information,” Sarah said. “Loretta Lynn is very punk.”
“Alright, punk,” you laughed. “We can work with that.”
You gave Sarah a mirror to hold as you dusted her eyelids with sparkly blue shadow and showed her how to apply pencil to her waterline.
“You’re pretty enough as it is,” you said, dipping a brush into the blush to apply on the apples of her cheeks. “We’re just enhancing your natural beauty.”
Sarah shifted her seat, her brows furrowing with tension.
“How do you find somebody,” she asked. “Someone you like and let them know you want to get to know them.”
“I’m sorry, honey, I think I’m the wrong person to ask,” you said with a laugh. “I haven’t had much luck in that department. Just be yourself, anyone who doesn’t appreciate that isn’t worth your time.”
“There aren’t any boys you like at school?”
“To be honest, high school boys are pretty gross,” you said. “Why, is there someone you’re interested in?”
“Do you like my dad?” Sarah blurted out.
You froze; the hairs on the back of your neck prickling.
“What? Are you being funny?” you forced a laugh, setting down your makeup brushes. Your ears burned red. “Of course I like your dad. He’s super nice.”
“No, I mean do you like him like him,” Sarah pressed. “Do you think he’s cute…”
“He’s a good looking man,” you stammered, hoping it sounded like it was the first time this had occurred to you. “You know, for a grown up.”
“He doesn’t have anybody,” Sarah frowned. “Doesn’t go out..Meet people…Date. If he’s a good guy and girls think he’s cute. It’s gotta be me, don’t you think? I’m the reason he’s alone.”
“Oh Sarah,” you sighed, taking her hands. “It’s not you. And even if it were, you’re worth it. Your daddy loves you more than anything–I wish my parents had half as much interest in my life as your dad has in yours. You are amazing; you have such a good heart. So you can’t think like that, okay? You are enough. You are everything.”
Sarah nodded and you dabbed her eyes with a tissue before her mascara started running.
“Come here, let me put on the finishing touch.” You swiped peach-flavored gloss across her lips. “What do you think?”
“I look different,” she said, observing her reflection in the little compact mirror. “I think I like it.”
“You should keep this one,” you said, handing her the lip gloss. “Color looks better on you.”
Sarah held the tube of gloss in both hands and finally cracked a smile.
“It’s getting late. You go wash up before bed, alright,” you told her. “You want to take a bubble bath? I brought Warm Vanilla Sugar.”
You waited downstairs while Sarah cleaned up; she changed into her pjs and was in bed by 10:30. You nodded off on the couch for a bit until Joel came in a little after 11.
“Hey, Sweetpea, thanks for staying,” Joel said, reaching into his back pocket and pulling a $20 out of his wallet for you. “I really appreciate it.”
He looked tired. In your half-dozing state, you wondered what it would be like to be the one he came home to at night. To greet him at the door with a beer and a kiss. To curl up on the couch together for movie nights with Sarah nestled between you. To have someone to take care of and someone to take care of you.
“Yeah, of course,” you yawned, rubbing your eyes. “She’s been good as gold. Just got to bed about a half hour ago.”
“Let me just say goodnight and I’ll give you a ride home,” Joel said, heading up the stairs.
You gathered your things while Joel tucked in Sarah. He grabbed his keys and ushered you outside. He opened the passenger side door of his truck for you to climb in.
Joel started up the car and pulled out of the driveway. His hand was resting on the gearshift. You stretched, letting your hand brush against his. He pulled away like you had burned him.
“Your hands are freezing,” he said, reaching for the heater, turning the dial all the way up. “It’ll warm up in a minute, put your hands up to the vent.”
You drew your hands back into your lap, sitting stock-still and ashamed as Joel turned the car at the end of the cul de sac.
“So how’s school going?” Joel asked, breaking the silence.
“Pretty good,” you nodded.
“You thinking about college, or–”
“Right now, UT Austin,” you said.
“That’s a great school,” Joel said. “Close to home.” You watched a muscle in his jaw flex.
“It’s a guaranteed scholarship once I finish my Gold Award,” you said. “I’m building a rosary garden for the church.” That was if the stupid council ever approved your damn project. Even after you had planted and mulched and hauled paving stones and gravel, they kept insisting you needed to do more. Apparently anything less than solving world hunger fell short of their expectations–and yet the Eagle Scouts got all the prestige?
“I remember, you were working on that the last time you came over,” he said. “How’s it going?”
“Actually, I was wondering if you might let me borrow some tools,” you said. “I’m building a pergola, you know, to shade the Blessed Virgin.”
You chuckled and Joel chuckled.
“Yeah, absolutely,” he said. “Can’t let the Blessed Virgin get heat stroke, right?”
“I really appreciate it,” you said, glancing sideways at him. “My daddy’s kind of useless.”
“Your daddy’s a good man,” Joel said sternly as he turned the truck down your street. “A good man.”
“I know.” You stared out the window. Your father had helped the Millers out after Tommy got arrested at Benji’s drive in for decking some guy for calling him a wetback. But clearly Joel had never seen your daddy drunk. “I just wouldn’t trust him around power tools.”
Joel stopped the car along the curb at the end of your driveway. You held your breath as he reached over you to unlatch the door and push it open.
“You go on now,” he instructed. “I’ll watch you get in the door.”
“Goodnight, Mr. Joel,” you said, sliding down from the seat of the truck. You were keenly aware of his eyes on your back as you made your way down the driveway.
You paused with your key in the front door, looking back down the drive before you stepped inside. Joel was still waiting; you waved at him and he smiled back before shifting the car into gear as you closed the door.

LEV1: "ANNIVERSARY"
WORD COUNT: 2191
CONTENT WARNINGS: CANON-TYPICAL BODY HORROR/GORE. WAR. THE APOCALYPSE. YAOI I GUESS
HOLY SHIT
IT'S BEEN A YEAR
WHAT THE FUCK HERE'S A FIC ABOUT IT
Edit log: 11/05 - Fixed some grammar and logical descriptors.
The city burned. It was one of three rebuilt. It was not one of skyscrapers or sprawling highways. Humanity no longer had the pride to build such things; When a skyscraper is toppled, it suffocates everything around it. Too many people had choked on the dust for 200 years. Now, if any were left, they would be charred and crushed.
Even across the bay, the sounds of Streetcleaners haunted the air. Their flamethrowers torched indiscriminately. No more corpses to burn. Faint explosions littered the streets like confetti. Metal creaked and groaned. An oil rig off the shore was finally dying. The war machines on board made unruly guests. One of its legs crumbled, and it screamed. A dying beast, bursting at the seams with flame. Its oily intestines spilled into the dead ocean, and fire came with it. Nothing could survive that. Levi had never listened in on Hell, but he imagined that it sounded like that.
“Clear,” V1 reported, sliding in from deeper within the forest. It paused to watch the rig die. The mechanical camera lense focused to see it clearly. Processing. It looked unaffected.
Several lights illuminated them both: V1’s gentle, constant sights, the fire, and the moon… though she was obscured by smog. Levi blinked. He was trapped in a horrified daze. He ran from the carnage the moment that it started. Now, he truly faced it. The rabbits of the city were long dead, and the wild dogs were content to rip each other apart.
This city was never Levi's home. So many people that he will never meet, that he should care about. The thought made cowardice run cold through his veins. The machine next to him was the only reason he wasn't burning with the rest of them. Could he stand to look any of those people in the eye?
Metal crumbled on the ground next to him. A dead machine. The distant screams continued.
“I thought you said it was clear,” Levi stated, simple and unoffended. His thoughts were trapped behind the net of familiar horror. He hadn't seen a city burn in 10 years. It was a terrible nostalgia.
“It is now.” V1 holstered its revolver and sat across from him. It wasted no time, cracking open the dead thing’s casing. The hole from a piercing shot still steamed. It paused, and whirred as it looked to Levi. His eyes were glued orange to the skyline.
“Levi.” It insisted, and he tore his sights away to look at their prize.
“Oh, that's…” He struggled to process it. “That's fascinating.” He traced along the edge of the ripped open casing. Flesh almost spilled out of it. It was in excess.
“Some kind of error?” V1 guessed as it tried to sort through what must be several pounds sitting in the chest cavity.
“A mutation, more likely. An error in biology…” Levi mused. He dug down against the side, trying to find the bottom of the mass. “Oh, fuck, this thing is packed. It must have been causing all sorts of issues.”
“It seemed off-balance.”
“Now you know why.”
V1 seemed satisfied with that. They slipped into a normal routine: V1 harvesting what it can and draining blood, while Levi starts a fire. It would be nothing compared to the inferno across the bay. Steel screeched in the distance, but there was silence between the two of them. The machine worked efficiently and callously. If the flesh was alive before, it wasn't then. Blood seeped into the open chest cavity as each tendon was snapped. V1’s armor hissed as it soaked up every stray drop.
Levi was sure most machines would be too attracted to the bloodshed within the city to notice a small campsite, but V1 had an escape route mapped just in case. He sparked a kindling. This small thing between his palms was precious. His air sighed as he breathed life into it. Just like that, a tiny fire was born. He had an entire childhood’s worth of practice, lighting gentle fires just outside of a warzone. Every time felt just as terrifying and bitter as the last. He looked across his little fire, and almost expected to see his sister. The machine gave him an unfeeling glance. He pushed down these emotions. They would do him no good here. He continued to nurture the flame in silence.
Silence was painful, too.
“How much blood do you think you’ll get out of it?” The sound of his voice surprised him. A distraction was in order. From everything.
V1's processors hummed. It snapped the last tendon, and weighed the mass in its hands. “A tank and a half,” it stated. It seemed confident in its assessment. It always was.
“Yeah? How's your supply currently?” A smile flitted across Levi's face. He didn't look up from the fire.
“47 percent. I’ll be set for a while.” The mass squelched as V1 lifted it fully out of the chest cavity. It's an ugly, dripping red thing. “Jackpot.” It muttered quietly.
Levi laughed. “Jackpot?” His eyes were wide with amusement.
“I found it by chance. I killed it. I won. This is the prize.” V1 peeked at him over the slab of meat. “You’re welcome.”
A scoff. Levi focused on his fire again. As the flame grew, the prize drained. The blood poured onto the machine’s chest, dripping and caressing each crevice before soaking through. It sighed. The sound made Levi's heart ache. Something about it had reminded him of people, the sigh they gave after a large meal, the creak of chairs, the clink of utensils. The thought of his war machine across a table from him was strange… but he still longed for the connection of eating with it. But blood is made useless when cooked. Eating after it would have to do.
The sizzle of meat sickened him. He had only made himself a portion of the mass, as much as he could stomach. It burned his hands, but he didn't care anymore. He just sank his teeth into it. Streetcleaners faintly screeched. The wave from the oil rig’s collapse finally slammed into the shore, just a dozen meters down the cliff. Smoke obscured the moon completely.
V1’s focus, though, was Levi. Its lense trained on him, fidgeting with a coin between its fingers as it watched. And watched. Levi found a particularly tough section of meat, and had to pull it apart with his teeth. He seemed embarrassed. V1 only shifted closer. Its eyes didn't say much, but all that could be read from it was interest. Interest. Interest. It said nothing.
A thought. Less than a thought, a premonition, turned over in Levi’s mind. He swallowed and spoke before he could think.
“What's today's date?”
V1 blinked. Its lense went distant for a split second, calling on its internal clock.
“November 3rd, 2129.”
Something about that was significant. He asked another question. “When did we meet?”
V1 called on more data. “One second.” A significant pause. “I didn't have my clock set up yet, when we met.”
Levi shook his head and shifted to sit on his knees. “No, no- I mean- When did I reactivate you?”
It tilted his head and blinked. “It was November 3rd, 2128.” It seemed surprised at this revelation, too.
He sat back and smiled. The glow of a distant inferno warmed them both. V1 was still so magnificent. “Well, I’ll be damned.”
“I’m guessing a year is some kind of goal?” Its voice sounded dry. Unimpressed, but sincere. Levi couldn't help but laugh.
“Mhm. A big one.”
V1 hummed. It raised a hand in acknowledgement. “Well, then. Congratulations to us.”
Levi’s heart bled with an affection that he had no shortage of. Just that simple message made him feel so, so much lighter. He couldn't hide it if he tried. “Yes, congratulations to us. Happy anniversary, V1.”
A moment of silence as Levi continued to eat. V1, surprisingly, was the one to break it.
“Does an anniversary warrant sentimentality?”
Levi smiled. “Generally, yes, it does.”
“Oh, damn. I already used up all of mine. Well’s all dry.” It sighed, pretending that it wasn't joking. Levi swallowed the last bit of meat, and once the gamey taste was out of his mouth, he snorted.
“Mmh, better luck next year, huh?”
“Better luck next year.”
V1 turned to look at the city. The fire still raged. It would burn for days and days and days, until all was embers and ash. The skyline looked empty without the oil rig. If he looked closely, Levi could swear he saw machines desperately paddling against the inky waves. Drowning in black and chrome, glimmering in the light of the surrounding flames. But it was just that: glimmers.
The two felt a heavy, fulfilling silence, even while the broil of warfare bubbled up across the bay. In this moment, in this tiny space, under this large sky, there was peace. They were the only two souls that had it. Levi was determined to hold fast to it. He stood, and hauled the remains of the hunted machine into the ocean. V1 watched, and though it could help, it elected not to. It stood and watched, amused, as Levi struggled to carry the metal. It clattered down the cliffside towards a waiting ocean. The black waters swallowed each piece whole. He huffed and sat next to it, breath heaving in his chest.
“Asshole.”
“What? You didn't ask for my help.”
“It's our anniversary, I shouldn't have to. You have to be extra nice to me.”
“Better luck next year.” It retorted. Levi laughed, and his breath calmed with the distant waves on the shore. The beaches were greyer the closer they were to the city. Embers blanketed the sand and disintegrated in the waves. His fingers gently nudged against V1’s. If it noticed, it didn't care enough to react.
“You're funny.” He fixed his eyes upon V1. He wanted its sights on him again. He spoke, again, without thought. He wasn't sure what made him speak his mind so brazenly that night. Maybe it was the fire. Maybe it was sentimentality. “Do you remember that close call with the Swordsmachine?”
V1 shifted, and Levi got his wish. A soft yellow glow casted on his face as it focused back on him. “Yes. What about it?”
“Had you been a second later, I wouldn't be here right now. It took my shotgun.”
“Yes. And I took it back. Why bring it up?”
Levi sat closer. He didn't know how successful he’d be with this. Getting so sappy usually just made V1 irritable. He tried it, anyway. His chest ached with a thousand blooming emotions, and that night he chose to nurture the good ones. “Because… This milestone could have never happened. So easily. And I don't know if it will ever happen again… I honestly don't think it will.”
The machine took a second to process this. Then another. Then another. “I could protect you for that long.”
“Maybe, but you couldn't feed me.” The wind tussled through his hair, from a dead ocean, into a dead forest. Levi couldn't remember the last time he had seen the color green. What grass was left had died with the change of seasons. He couldn't remember the last time he saw a deer, or anything larger than ants and flies. An awful dread sat in his chest. V1 considered this.
“As long as I eat, you’ll eat.” It decided. So simple. Oddly sweet. Levi smiled sadly.
“Thank you.” He leaned on V1’s shoulder, and stared out across the water. No response. More wind whistled. The ache of cold began to sink past his skin, into muscle and bone. The smog overhead showed no signs of dissipating. Screams of rage and torment echoed on the cliffs, eaten alive by the barren trees. Their peace continued. “Seriously, V1, thank you.”
V1, in all its inexplicable mercy, pulled Levi close. It was warm. Its machinery purred against his skin. Servos twitched with inactivity as its programming struggled to focus on something physical. It fidgeted with his fingers, watching the muscles and tendons in his hand stretch. It said nothing. It only purred, softly in his ear. Its gliders folded to make room for him. He had already taken up so much of its internal storage. He would continue to occupy its files long after he was gone. V1 never thought about it like that, though. It only knew that this cooperation, this connection, was beneficial and special. That it would cling to this for as long as possible– If not for a lifetime.
“Levi…”
“Hm?”
“Happy anniversary.”
Levi beamed, and cuddled closer. Knelt together on a cliff, by a fire, watching the inferno of war rage across the water. Cold, but precious. His heart beat steadily against its chest. The gentle, pulsing proof that he was alive and well. “Happy anniversary.”
He pressed a warm kiss to its armor. Blood brushed his lips. Though V1 didn't understand kissing, it knew what they meant.
I trust you. I love you. I need you.
V1 set another objective.
November 3rd.

Headcannons for Johnny with a little sister? Maybe her name would be Jenny or Josephine or Jane👀
woof, sorry for the late response! i’ve been stewing on this for a while 😭
Im gonna go with Josephine because Josie and Johnny sound so cute together
Johnny’s only reason for not running away is Josie
He probably often takes beatings for her like if he sees his dad raise a hand to her he’ll literally shove his dad so the anger is redirected to him
He doesn’t like leaving her in her own room because he doesn’t want her to hear all the stuff that goes on (parents throwing things, hitting each other, yelling, etc
He’ll hold her to his chest and cover her other ear so all she can hear is his heartbeat (though she wonders why his heartbeat tends to speed up randomly)
Food is tight too and he hates having Josie go hungry so he sneaks her his portion of food with the insistence that he would eat later but he never really does
When they’re cuddling she’ll ask “why his tummy is grumbly” and he just sighs and lies about it being digestion
I kinda feel like Social Services came to take her away because her teachers were concerned for her
On that mute I feel like she was 7 or 8, and ended up being best friends with Two Bit’s little sister Kit
Either social services took her or the Mathew’s took her in because Johnny literally begged Two Bit
“She ain’t safe at my place, she don’t deserve to live in a house like that, she needs to live like a normal kid, it’s already over for me, the least we can do is give her a childhood” and that just about breaks Two’s heart (and is another reason Two screamed at Mrs. Cade which was deserved, fuck that woman)
He was so sad leaving her and literally just…let himself get beat that night for whatever reason. His parents hardly notice he’s around so they probably forgot about her. But he takes it as a punishment
(gapier hcs now)
I feel like her and Kit would be best friends-I kinda made Kit into a sorta OC but I feel like she was super daring and rambunctious, the kind of kid you wanna be friends with and she’ll greet you with open arms but if you mess with her she won’t let it go
So I feel like Josie was kinda the opposite, she like Johnny was practically mute (worse than him actually) and she just came over and was like “Hey, I’m Katherine Mathews! Call me Kit though or you’ll regret it” and they kinda just became friends from that day on lol
When Johnny found out he was over the moon because she had a new friend!
If we’re going with Filipino Two Bit (which I do on this blog because I think it’s neat) both Josie and Johnny have been invited over just to try their food and they both love it
Johnny gives her piggy back rides a lot
She has a little kid crush on Ponyboy lol
Her and Johnny are uber close and he even learned how to do her hair
She has suuuuuuper curly hair (I use Ralph’s Johnny but maybe his hair is a bit wavy!) and he’s learned how to style it and it makes her so happy
He’s overprotective of her too like he just always has his arm around her in public
He refuses to let his sister see him if he’s been jumped because he thinks it makes him look weak
Hes such a good big brother <3
