Super excited to announce that I am now a staff photographer for a really special project called This Bushwick Life (@thisbushwicklife ), where we highlight businesses and personalities around our neighborhood. Everyone seems to only know Bushwick for its kitschy dance parties, flashy graffiti, and bars that are near the L train...but we're SO MUCH MORE than that! Underneath the hip-factor patina of trust-fund kids (and their deep advertising pockets), there's a vibrant, hardworking, community that doesn't get the same press coverage; and our goal with this project is to highlight them and help them tell their unique stories. It's only been a short time, but I've already had the pleasure of meeting and photographing so many incredible people! Since I can't post the stories/photos here until after they've been posted to the official account, you'll just have to keep your eyes peeled by following them first and then checking back here after! So, without further ado, check out our first story about local baker Auzerais Bellamy, who owns and operates @blondery , an all-natural pastry kitchen that specializes in made-to-order handmade treats, and hosts cooking classes for children. A portion of the class fee proceeds are donated to Powr Plant (@powrplnt), a computer lab in Bushwick that offers free programs to community youth providing courses on subjects like coding and video editing - things they may not have access to otherwise. Give her a follow and make sure to order up some blondies or sign up for a class on her website www.blondery.com! * * * * * #bushwick #brooklyn #bk #nyc #ny #newyork #newyorkcity #community #blondery #thisbushwicklife #photography #nycphotographer #work #life #smallbusiness #entrepreneur #mynikonlife #nikon #d750 #nikond750 #dslr #mood #vibes #aesthetic #love #girlgaze #blackgirlmagic #aesthetic #style #artists (at Bushwick, Brooklyn) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuByIMmBxPN/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mcueg9we6b0y

Monday Motivation | Your First Resume
Kick off your week with Monday Motivation!
Tip of the week
We all have to start somewhere. Don't panic when you begin writing your first resume, even if you feel you have minimal or no work experience. While you might not have been formally employed before, that doesn't mean you don't have any useful skills. For your first resume, take a look at your experiences so far and focus on things you've learned that are useful for the position you're applying for. Don't underestimate your school extracurricular activities, certificates you have earned, or volunteer experiences—they all taught you something that can be used in a formal career environment.
This week’s highlighted jobs:
Curator of Media Arts and Special Projects National Portrait Gallery Washington, DC
President & CEO The Jacksonville Symphony Jacksonville, FL
Junior Account Executive/Client Development Executive 1stdibs.com New York, NY
Curator of Education Chrysler Museum of Art Norfolk, VA

Lucia Vidales - NYC -Days 7 & 8
Catching up
These days have been good and busy,
On Sunday I wake up early as I never do
I went to a quaquer´s meeting, for an hour we joined with no talking. Silence was the minister. Each person is responsable for following their own conversation with god or themselves as there is not a minister telling you what to follow. Silence has a great power and it is something hard to attain. I found my body uncomfortable by staying in the same position. Then my own thoughts became the most difficult thing to calm, concentration came and left to come back again and leave me with worries, desires and random ideas.
People were generous, they own a library and welcome everyone. The main room is all painted in gray, but its not dark, tall walls. No images, no text, just an exit sign and safety objects. The sits ordered in a square facing the empty center of the room. There I met three art performers and actors who go there for some inspiration away from the rush of the city.
There was a girl at the meeting, quite young, no hair, wearing a silver sort of hat on her very white head, almost transparent skin, an ancient asian design seemed to me, matching a nose piecing. Sweet glance, whenever I recall that meeting she comes back to my mind.
I left feeling lighter than when I got there.
Then I went to meet Lisa for a Chinese Parade for New Year, it was cold and it took long. A family was separated by fences and police at both sides of the road, they were communicating in signs language, I wondered why all their communication seemed so dramatic to me. Chinese parade, music is loud sound gets acute, colors are loud.
We had a great Pho, coffee and sweet bread. Lisa is great, sweet and with a strong personality, she likes video games. We talked about food, her art, apex, daily life and love. I´m glad she´ll go to Mexico and I´ll meet her again.
In powrplnt I felt empowered, I took a DJing workshop which was unexpected and fun. It was held by a collective named sistaspin which provides production education precesses to the lgbtq+ in Brooklin.
On Monday I took the Eats Village Poetry Walk. It has been one of the highlights of my experience. Just walk on the streets listening at good poetry and anecdotes about the city and people who´s work has changed me or just made me company, was great.
It was inspiring and it gave me some ideas for future projects.
Then I met Orlando Estrada who is great, and an artist from Puerto Rico who went to Seul with Apex. We went to the most hunted house in NY, a museum in danger of disappearing by gentrification. The Merchant house Museum took us to XIX century NY´s high class life tour. Then we had a beer or two at McSorley´s, the oldest pub in NY. Great place and companion.
At night I went to stand up Comedy at Brooklin, It was relieving to laugh for finishing the day.
My back starts to feel light from all accumulated stress I brought to NY and my feet get heavy. I love walking this city.

BGM x @powrplnt Let's talk about the importance of physical space. To be in the same room as one another. To hear the cadence of each other voices. To look in each others eyes and see understanding. We are now residents of @powrplnt as a collective, who has been working remotely across the states and international the last three years. The gift of space. And we want to share that with you. Through this residency we take this time to re-engage with the mission of the collective and to return the root of what it means to organize and build collectively. During open studios, discussions, resources for women of color will be provided to engage in restoration and healing with us, and to define self-care on their terms. Check back with us soon for those upcoming dates! 📍If youre interested in partnering with us for a self care session or community discussion, email [email protected] — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2FrF17i
