Why a Leadership Philosophy is Essential for Every Leader!
Leadership is a social construct, meaning that leaders can only lead if there are followers. To lead effectively, leaders must have a clear direction, a North Star to aim for. This direction may vary when changing organizations or industries.
Although the specifics may differ, leaders usually have a signature brand philosophy and a set of values that permeate throughout their careers. These guiding principles often develop over time and become apparent by the time one assumes a leadership position. People feel and talk about these principles, as they shape how others perceive and understand the leader.
Leadership philosophy extends beyond a mere manifesto
While it includes a set of beliefs and principles, it serves as a personal anchor during challenging times, when seeking validation or approval, or when uncertainty clouds the path ahead. Your leadership philosophy enables you to make decisions based on your core identity and values, rather than relying excessively on external validation or feedback.
Leadership is not just about followership; It also involves tasks and responsibilities
A leadership philosophy empowers you to lead in a manner that aligns with your values and beliefs. Without a leadership philosophy, self-doubt often arises, as it becomes challenging to measure success against tangible outcomes or external feedback. Much of a leader's work revolves around relationships, influence, psychological safety, inclusion, and setting standards. It goes beyond mere achievements, which might have propelled individuals into leadership positions initially.
Reflecting on your own career and those of others, you will notice how values and philosophies have shaped success or failure, growth or stagnation. Understanding your leadership philosophy enables you to establish a strong foundation, guiding your decisions and actions even in uncertain situations. It empowers you to act with conviction when faced with imperfect outcomes or insufficient information.
Leadership isn't solely about occupying a position of power
Informal leaders exist, people who inspire trust and engage others without formal authority. Some of these individuals eventually become formal leaders, while others assume leadership roles without having had previous influencing experiences. However, without a leadership philosophy, your ability to communicate clearly and make sound decisions is compromised. A well-defined leadership philosophy helps shape your leadership brand, making people say, "That decision must have been based on X, Y, and Z." It transcends the individual and points toward a shared North Star.
Therefore, a leadership philosophy is essential. Without one, self-doubt becomes more prevalent, and leaders often lack a clear sense of direction. They struggle to understand the behaviors and values they should exemplify. Uncertainty arises regarding when to assert oneself or when to let situations unfold. These leaders rely on external factors rather than their own leadership philosophy, the task at hand, the followers involved, and their own identity as a leader.
To develop your leadership philosophy, consider three key aspects.
Define what you stand for. It doesn't have to be grandiose; simplicity can be powerful.
Determine the principles and values you want to rely on when making decisions. Inclusion, integrity, compassion, and accountability are examples of values that can help maintain a balanced approach.
Identify the situations or incidents that challenge you the most. This understanding will highlight when you need to lean on your leadership philosophy and values. It may reveal areas where you need to develop strategies, beliefs, or values to navigate those challenging situations effectively.
While a leadership philosophy is not needed for everyday decision-making, it becomes crucial during challenging times. It allows you to transcend personal limitations, see the bigger picture, and make decisions aligned with your values. By aligning with your philosophy, you inspire trust in others, even when they might not agree with the outcomes. They recognize that your decisions are based on a well-thought-out framework.
In conclusion, a leadership philosophy serves as a backbone, providing clarity, guidance, and resilience. It helps leaders avoid mixed signals, manipulation, and misunderstandings. Your philosophy acts as a manifesto, continuously evolving and adapting as you mature as a person and as a leader. Quotes that resonate with you can also serve as guiding principles. By cultivating a well-defined leadership philosophy, you strengthen your position and approach to work, empowering you to make impactful decisions and communicate effectively.

Juniper Joyfield’s Powers
Telekinesis:
Her main power is telekinesis. The ability to move anything with your mind. This power comes in handy the most. June hasn’t found the limitation on this power yet. Everything she had tried to move with her mind has responded positively, allowing her to do so. But she will eventually learn that there are things she can’t control. The bigger, or stronger the object/person/thing is, the harder it is to move it. Her hands burn/heat up when she’s using this power. The bigger/powerful the thing she’s moving, the more her hands will burn. She could get bad burns marks, and possibly lose her hands if she’s not careful. She has a pair of gloves that help with this side effect, that keeps the heat in check, so when she’s wearing them she doesn’t have to worry about her hands burning up.  When she’s using her power. Her hands burn/glow white, most likely from the intense heat of using her powers, but when she’s moving small things, the glow isn’t as intense, just a soft glow. And whatever object she’s moving attracts a faint white wispy aura around it, signifying Juniper is using her telekinesis, and sometimes that white, wispy aura surrounds June’s hands as well, but not as much as the thing she is moving. Her eyes get a faint, glossy, white look when she’s using her telekinesis as well, so it doesn't completely white out her pupils, but just puts a layer of white over them.
Phasing:
This power allows her to act almost like a ghost and pass through walls, objects, and people. Basically, the molecules/atoms in everything are being separated and shifted aside by Juniper’s telekinesis powers, which allow her to then pass or phase through anything. Just like with her telekinesis, she will find out that there are things she can’t phase through. Phasing takes a lot of concentration because if she gets stuck in something, it’s extremely hard and dangerous to get out.
Life Force Healing:
The last power Juniper has is the ability to heal herself through life force. This means that if Juniper is hurt, or dying that if she comes in contact with another living thing, she can borrow their life force to heal or save herself. But she has to do it on her own, the power will not do it for her. So if she is dying or hurt and does not come in contact with another living thing, she will not heal. This power is limited to living things only. Anything brought back from the dead, or already dead will not heal her. Along with that, while borrowing the life force of another, a grey splotch will grow where June is in contact with them and will grow as she uses more of their life force. The grey area is permanent. The longer June uses their life force, the weaker and weaker they become until eventually, they could die if June stays in contact for too long. Things that she has used life force from will gain it back slowly.

Kit Bellen’s Powers
Spider-Powers:
Kit has the same powers as all the other Spider People. Can stick to things, healing factor, enhanced agility, Spider-Sense, etc. She was bitten by a radioactive spider just like the rest of them, so she has the same abilities as them. Except for the fact that she was given a little something more, that the others might not have.
Venom/Hairs:
If touched in a defensive manner that could possibly cause harm to Kit, her spidey-senses will recognize this and the hairs on her body will severely pierce the skin of the enemy, and inject low doses of venom into them like some spiders can do. This venom is slow acting, allowing them enough time to seek medical help. But the venom takes an immediate hold on their body. It slows them down, messes with their senses, and causes them to become very weak. It may take awhile for the venom to kill them, but the affects of it are quick and can be just as deadly. The hairs on her body cut deep when piercing the skin. It can cause serious blood loss for the victim/enemy and will leave a deep scar.
Hallucinations:
Kit has the ability to cause low scale hallucinations like the Black Widow spider, by locking her gaze with them. This power is a bit more tricky to use, and is really only useful for an escape distraction. The hallucinations aren’t huge, and most of the time will just mildly confuse/disorientate Kit’s enemy. They are still strong enough to make the victim believe they are real, but don’t cause any real damage to them, besides a bit of a mental breakdown.

Sadie Seawell’s Powers
Energy Blasts:
Sadie has the power to harness the energy from plants that they captured during photosynthesis, and then turn that energy into powerful blasts that have the ability to burn and/or disintegrate her enemies. Though she does have to be a radius of nature/wildlife to be able to use this ability. If she isn’t in reach of any plant life, then her powers are basically non-existent. She can save/store up energy for moments when she is not in reach of wildlife. Her dad created these modified charm bracelets that allow her to save/store up energy, and the bracelets tell her how much she has left to use. The bracelets activate whenever she’s within reach of wildlife and can fill up on their own.
Light:
Due to the light energy that comes along with her powers, she can also light up dark areas by snapping her fingers, and a small ball of light will appear which she can then use to illuminate her surroundings or carry with her. This light is hard to put out by an outside source, almost impossible. But Sadie can easily put it out herself. She can also decide how big or small the light source is.

Animus’ Powers
Memory Manipulation:
Animus has the power to connect to the memories within the boundaries of her victim's position and manipulate them to her advantage. She can take those memories that the person has connected to that area, and force them to relive it in a horrible, twisted way. This causes them to go insane from the mental torture of what she has turned their memory into, and most likely causing harm to themselves trying to prevent the memory from being forced off track. If her victim is not in an area where they have memories connected to it, Animus can connect to her own memories from that area if she has them, and manipulate them so that they mentally torture her victim as well. This part of her powers is not as strong, as if they were her victim’s memories, but still work better than nothing.
