I was rewatching s2 last night, and ohhh man mk looks over mei so much it's not even funny. times mei has been ignored:

maybe you need to really listen! (during the blindfold ep)

mk just? grabs stuff she's using out of her hands all the time? (video game ep)

maybe you shouldn't skip the tutorials? (video game ep again)

the way he addresses her in dumpling destruction and then immediately pushes her aside for tang

i honestly remember it lowkey kinda bothering me on first watch but now it's REALLY egregious on rewatch. are you scared? I'm so scared. do you WANT to end up like shadowpeach MK

2x03 is so rude because the whole fucking episode they're like "MK you don't listen" and it's so true. He doesn't. Pigsy literally points it out again at the end of 4x14 with the whole sun screen bit:

Pigsy: "Tch, don't bother, I've been telling him that for years but he LITERALLY never listens." Sun Wukong: "Yep! That's how we role."

MK gets so stuck in his own head ("You're all stuck up in your own head! None of this is your fault!" +1 to the MK ignoring Mei counter from 4x08) and I think that really contributes to his s2 scramble to get more powerful.

The terrible s2 choices both Wukong and MK make in relation to their friends is just absolutely delicious after 4x11. Like, OH. This has been a lifelong pattern of Wukong's—paranoia is one of his fatal flaws (paired with his terrible communication and self-sacrificial nature), and while he had the power to stop LBD before he still feel's the need to go after the Samadhi Fire to stop her now, and to protect MK.

Hold on look at this parallel that I don't know what to do with:

MK: "Ugh, I can't do it!"

i love this scene so much, and i find the dialogue quite interesting. the episode features a lot of miscommunication and lack of communication within the tara-willow-oz love triangle. willow doesn't tell oz she's with tara, tara sees oz in willow's room and assumes they've slept together, tara avoids telling oz that she's with willow but he figures it out anyway. and, importantly, willow doesn't tell tara what she means to her, in part because willow herself isn't totally sure. so tara is left floundering and uncertain as to where she stands with willow. her immediate assumption is that oz is more important to willow than tara is, and that willow will leave her now that he's back. willow doesn't dissuade that notion at first, because she still has to figure out for herself that it isn't true. but once willow has figured out what she wants, and understands that what she wants is tara, she makes sure to tell tara this in no uncertain terms.

willow shows up at tara's door and, once invited in, begins to say something. but tara cuts her off. tara thinks willow is here to break up with her to be with oz and interrupts willow to say that she understands. "you have to be with the person you love." but willow gently corrects her. "i am." willow corrects tara in a way that affirms the truth of what tara has said. she does have to be with the person she loves. it's just that the person she loves happens to be tara.

tara, uncertain but hopeful, meets willow's gaze (she had been avoiding it before) and says, "you mean...?" and this time willow jumps in and says "i mean." reassuring, loving, gentle. tara is so insecure about her place in willow's life, about her right to be with willow. she's insecure in her words and her ability to wield them; she speaks softly, she stammers and trails off, and often she chooses to say nothing at all. by repeating tara's words back to her, willow shows her support for tara and what she says. she shows tara that tara isn't wrong to speak or to hope that willow will want to be with her. she isn't wrong to voice that hope. again, willow reaffirming the veracity of what tara says.

"okay?" willow adds, checking to make sure that tara understands. there has been so much previous miscommunication that she wants to make absolutely sure that she's being clear. tara replies, "oh, yes." she gets it. they're finally on the same page. willow apologizes for her behavior earlier in the episode: "i feel horrible about everything i put you through, and i'm gonna make it up to you, starting right now." a sincere apology, but also a flirtation, as she steps closer to tara and smiles. a promise to show tara she loves her not just with her words but also with her actions. "right now?" tara repeats. another repetition, but now tara is repeating willow's words. tara's checking to see that she understands correctly, but she's also flirting back, if her smile is anything to go by. maybe she's also thinking about how it feels to speak of willow's love for her out loud, something she's avoided doing for most of this episode. willow's affirmation of tara's voice gives tara confidence. though tara has spent much of this episode minimizing her relationship with willow and avoiding mention of it, now she feels emboldened to talk about it out loud.

and then willow nods, and tara smiles and blows out the candle. cut to black. i love that this scene ends with willow and tara communicating without words. it's such a shift from earlier in the episode where they're frequently misunderstanding each other and uncertain of how the other feels. they've so fully succeeded in communicating their feelings that they're now in complete understanding and can continue to communicate without words. demonstrating the power of words, but also reminding us that words aren't everything. it also hearkens back nicely to 4x10 "hush", when tara and willow first bonded. their voices had been taken from them, so they were unable to speak, but they connected without words. there are things you can know without having to speak them aloud. but the speaking aloud can also be useful sometimes.

so i was rewatching the end of lmk s4 with some friends today, and i noticed that in 4x10 peng says smth to nezha like "let the demon child come out and play!" and like. if i knew more about nezha lore thatd probably be quite concerning to me as a lorehead. and you seem knowledgeable. so. any thoughts?

oh boy. (cracks knuckles) it's late and i should be sleeping but I'm also sad so Nezha interest go BRRRRR

i will say for any accurate/culturally referenced info, go check out @ruibaozha - i am simply summing up as much as i can and some stuff is missing/not elaborated on

let me break down the basic elements of the Nezha myths.

Nezha is born his mom and his military dad, Li Jing, and his older brothers Muzha (second) and Jinzha (first). but Nezha is like fucking. superpower baby for some reason? Apparently the heavens decided to bless Li Jing with a powerful son for his military prowess, and Nezha's mom, Lady Yin(?), was pregnant for 3+ years. Then Nezha popped out as a goddamn ball of flesh. His dad attacked him because hey! Flesh ball! But then Nezha's ball split open and he jumped out as an already formed young child (ages often unclear- ppl say he's 7, or 12, and in some cases he died after only 3 days(?) alive.) either way, Taiyi Zhenren swoops in to be Nezha's master, and everything is fine for some time.

at least til Nezha kills Ao Bing. this part of the myth is really what defines Nezha as a "demon child" or not. in Fengsheng Yanyi/Investiture of the Gods, ONE of the older/more well-known written versions of his story, Nezha washes his sash in the East Sea and causes the dragon palace to quake. Ao Guang understandably gets pissed and sends up his general to ask him to stop, who Nezha kills. then Ao Guang's 3rd son, Ao Bing, who Nezha also kills (and rips out his tendon to wear as a belt)! sometimes Nezha also kills a demon, apprentice of Lady Earth Flow, miles away on accident because he randomly fired a bow. yet in another cases, Nezha is the hero- a demon came up to eat children at the shore, and Nezha obviously killed the dude, then Ao Bing, same thing. but in other other versions, Nezha was friends with Bing and accidentally killed him while playing due to being ultra powerful...

and then Ao Guang threatens Nezha's town, because the kid killed his son. (sometimes Nezha goes and strangles Guang before he can talk to the Jade Emperor, so...) Guang demands an apology and/or Nezha's life or he'll flood the whole mountain pass. and Nezha decides to slit his own goddamn throat to apologize to his parents and "return his body to them". Aka: he commits suicide at like, seven(?)

From here on, stuff differs: Li Jing is a shitty dad (like he REALLY really hates Nezha. calls him a curse and beats him), Nezha gets a temple and Jing burns it down, Nezha gets reborn in a lotus body by his master and/or Buddha, goes on a murder rampage against his dad and Muzha (beats up Muzha w/ a golden brick), is forced to submit to his dad through a Golden Pagoda, making Li Jing the Golden Pagoda Bearing Li Jing, sometimes Jinzha gets to flog his brother, and Nezha's basically a bitter fire god (child) put into the literal armies of heaven. he's also got his 6/8-armed and 3-headed war form in the myths...

now, this is a very long yet still EXTREMELY short explanation of the myth(s), and the "message" really boils down to what version you tell- the boy who started stuff by (unintentionally) murdering people, or the hero. but a lot of the main point of nezha's myth was originally about filial piety, and can be told as a story to remind kids that the parents are always superior, but in more modern myths and stories, Nezha has ended up shifting more into a symbol of rebellion. He's the protection deity of children: the outcasts and the demon children, the kids who question things and are loud and outspoken and aren't what people (especially their parents) want them to be. Nezha's story entirely depends on region, context and intent, which makes him a very versatile figure.

Now, put that into LMK?

I have a lot of hcs abt why LMK Nezha is the way he is, but my main one comes down to that "demon child" line. I like to think that Nezha was basically an uncontrolled force of war power and killed Ao Bing (regardless of the situation).

But then he got put into heaven and 1. realized how he acted and had to deal with crushing guilt and self-hatred and 2. got groomed into a (then) child soldier 👍

He was still a general, but learned to channel all that destructive power into being a protector and how to defend instead (ex: his shields, sealing power, etc). He takes his current job very seriously bc he sees it as his only reason to still be worth existing. he also dislikes Wukong bc he sees far too much of a younger him in Wukong; doomed for destructiveness and chaos. this is also why i put parallels to Nezha and MK because. yeah. (and imo, although i know Nezha paid it back w/ his suicide, I'm a bit surprised Mei wasn't taught to hate him, due to how much family matters to dragons...)

so aka, my hc of: "dude was literally always seen as a demon child/symbol of destruction, and therefore after being used as a literal war weapon and then being made to guard a map for ages (probably because he didn't want to harm anyone else), DUDE'S GOT ISSUES!"

Guillermo having more in his life than just pursuing vampirism for the first time in season 4--spending time with his human family again, having a human boyfriend (rancid as he was), actually having an income (even if he did have to embezzle it), being on a more equal footing with Nandor, coparenting Colin with Laszlo, working at the club with Nadja--IS directly connected to him not asking Nandor about turning him ONCE for almost the entire season or even alluding to it or mentioning it until 4x10.

Like we get so many allusions to Guillermo being a weird, lonely kid who was bullied and not very happy with his life or himself, and clinging to vampirism as something that would give him power to avoid being bullied and confidence to avoid loneliness and find happiness. He explicitly links "becoming a vampire" to "being happy" in "The Wellness Center," even

But by the end of season 2, Guillermo already has power, which only grows through season 3. And for the majority of season 4, Guillermo is happy as well. He's really enjoying his human life for the first time. So he stops asking Nandor to end it and turn him into something else...until nearly everything that made him happy is ripped away within the span of a few days.

so, this is actually a very interesting question and i'm glad you asked!

i want to say technically yes, even though she probably may not have seen it that way at first, or did so because she had the mindset of, "i did what i had to do, and anyone who protests must be an enemy."

going into queendom, she obviously wanted this journey to be one where all three of them were on the same page and made decisions mutually together. but as double trouble spun manipulation into the dynamic and bow & adora stopped agreeing with her, she felt threatened and assumed power over instead of with them.

they stopped being a team, and the duo began working against her when it came to the necessary beast island mission, as well as competing to (de)activate the heart of etheria, not to mention the whole... being used by shadow weaver having a role in her leadership incident, which is absolutely what the stakes often come down to once a dictatorship goes too far.

i am mostly referring to this scene as the prime example here:

i can't imagine the average subjects of bright moon would consider glimmer to be anything less than reckless, especially considering angella had been so carefully passive for however many generations; who knows just how long before?

oh, and another thing i should mention: i am a huge sucker for glimmer & catra being narrative foils to one another in many ways! season four is really when we finally see them both step up into their ranks in 4x01 "the coronation", where the latter definitely becomes an absolute dictator without a shred of doubt via overthrowing hordak. i would argue that if nothing else, the former's path looks quite similar in that regard:
