Not me watching videos on how to draw zombies and character sheets so I can draw ghoul!Erik.

Don’t get me wrong, I love AWL Erik.

I love iterations where he looks more human like *coughs* Gerik *coughs* but I want a gloopy, sloopy, spoopy Erik.

I want an ‘Erik’ who Lerik would scream at in terror, and who Erik Destler would say “Hey bestie, slay! 💅🔪🩸”

While on the subject of how I want to draw my favorite book characters:

I want a Daroga with weight on his bones, a hefty man; a man who you’d feel safe with if a zombie was constantly sending you marriage proposals. So yeah, he’s gonna be a chunky man. He’s my comfort character, besides Cherik.

Additionally, keeping with my own lore from my one shots, Raoul is gonna have a boxer bod. More importantly, he’s gonna be a dandy/fopish boxer. I think it’s a cute idea and it’s where the dopamine is.

On Darius, I’m thinking a calisthenics/slim build. Just an average assistant who has to deal with a ghoul now and then for his boss. My man didn’t sign up for this.

I’m still trying to figure out how I’m going to draw Christine; I’m wanting an ethereal fae, a nice juxtaposition of death (ghoul!erik) and life (fae!chris). I’ll do more research on Nordic folklore and art so I can get a better idea, but there will be art nouveau in her styling.

Mama V is another I’ve got to tackle. I honestly don’t know what vibe best fits her. I need to re-read the book and what ever image/vibe it get while reading is what I’m sticking with.

Now Philippe, I have an idea, but is more of a vibe. He’s going to be barrel chested and thick necked. The man would look like a mountain when you saw him. Literally this guy, Harry Pelta:

Imagine that’s Philippe holding up Raoul. That’s the vibe I want to convey.

Everyone else will come later, those are the main ones I’m working on now.

And uh yeah, that’s what’s happening so far with my poto fan art in case anyone was wondering where it was.

I wanted something unique and different that I would be happy with while drawing and I think I’ve finally figured it out.

I love how this turned into a ramble at the end.

the thing, why Erik and Christine is my ship and beyond that the dynamic that fascinated me the most is because their relationship is so toxic and so beautiful and so layered. it's like...i am the angel your dead father sent you, you are my angel of music, i am your father (figure), i am your teacher, you are my teacher, you're my muse, you're my victim, i am yours, you made me experience musical ecstasy, you too, you guided me out of my grief, i am grieving because of you, you're the normalcy i long for, you bring out the side in me i didn't even know i had, i've never been so happy, i've never been so frightened, i've never been so desperate, i want to die because of you, i want you to kill us both, he's just a man, he's every shadow, she's just a woman, she saved everyone, it's just a kiss, no, it means everything!

Erik and Christine are an abuser and his victim but they were also two lonely, broken people who found solace in each other, they are also musical geniuses inspiring each other to inhuman achievements in their art, they share are bond that even they can't really understand or anyone else.

I also love the weathered frenemy relationship he has with the Daroga and Raoul is also a perfectly nice young man who, in my opinion, is the most interesting when he's at his worst (jealous) and I love that everyone has fun with their non canon ships too. But Erik and Christine's dynamic will always be like crack to me personally. They're Death and the Maiden, Hades and Persephone, Mephisto and Faust/Margarete, the Rose and the Nightingale, Beauty and the Beast, they're opposites, they can't be together, they're day and night AND YET
