Hello! I was wanting to get into Deltora Quest but I’m not exactly sure where to start. I’m not sure which is the “first book” to start with so I was wondering which one it was, it looks like an interesting series!!

if you find physical copies at the library or whatever, the spines have corresponding number of gems for each book which is pretty neat imo! anyway they're succinct and fast paced so it's pretty easy to breeze through them

on this note, it's because i love the idea that you could be anywhere and he would just be there trying to con you into paying more than you should. that he might have something you desperately need but he'd only give it to you if you performed a certain errand for him or something. he'd be a real bastard lmaoo

but also i love his actual character so much. i think he's interesting and i love that rodda wrote him in. i love that tom is just some guy who cares about money. that the way she wrote him as "it's all about business" through his symmetrical name. that his name is the same flipped and it's the same as seen in a mirror. same inside and outside his shop. same face to a friend and same face to an enemy. but also that he has a small light glimmering in the depths, and while he claims to be a "poor shopkeeper" and "does not take sides", he still has a conscious tucked carefully away in a safe place to be revisited

It’s so nice to find some love for a series I loved so much, that never really seem to get much attention 🧡 I was planning on doing a re- read of DQ 1-3 and Roman of Rin this year, and in large part because of how affectionately you talk about them I’m going to read 3 Doors and Star of Deltora too. literally my first otp i ever shipped. i love the slowburn and development of their relationship both romantically and non-romantically.

if it was human dain au then,,, maybe. but idk. i guess it was one of my first reading experiences of a betrayal that little me has always harboured a dislike for dain, so it's hard to ship him with lief for me. i suppose i've also never saw them interact together and thought "what if...?"

so i do love them very much. im very soft for their relationship, platonically or romantically. i think it can work as like a crush when you're young, but as they get older it does get Awkward when you ship lief x jasmine

Lief as bender?

Here’s Lief as a fire bender and an Asian-inspired Fidelis :D

i was meaning to do a fire bender for my roddaverse atla AU, but I couldn’t think of anyone really tangible the way that Jasmine’s senses fit seismic bending, Zeel literally flies around on a kite, and Verity had a relationship with the sea. i thought about Lief as a fire bender because he’s a blacksmith, but then i wondered if he should be a metal bender? i couldn’t choose, and i really didn’t want to just make him the avatar to have both.

but then i realised

like it didn’t have to, but now it’s justified!

hmmm i haven’t considered this. i want to say yes. and it’s definitely one of those crappy thought-it-was-a-good-idea-at-the-time tattoos. like he was drunk with his mates and they were like leT’S GET MATCHING TATTOOS and his lil squad did a dodgy job of things they thought were cool on each other. they’d probably be beasts like dragons and boars and bulls and stuff--wAIT MAYBE AS LIKE A SORT OF RITE OF PASSAGE, JALIS YOUTH HAVE TO HUNT SOMETHING AND THEN THAT’S THEIR SIGIL OR SOMETHING?? I WAS THINKING THAT THEY HAD SIGILS ON THEIR HELMETS, BUT MR JALIS HERE IS DEF A DRUNK DUMBASS AND HE WOULD DEFINITELY GET A REAL SHAKY LINE OF SOMETHING. i was going to draw Sharn and baby Lief for Feels but then i felt compelled to draw her just before the invasion.

i was thinking it was reasonable that the royals were probably overweight, which would be a stark contrast to their bone-thin people, a sure sign of their decadence and ignorance.
