I think firebending probably would have been pretty useful in the Hive, don’t you? Inspired by @theravenlyn-art's roddaverse atla au!!

Also, I realized about half way through this that I wasn’t sure if you meant you wanted Deltora characters in an atla au or atla characters in a Deltora au, since I’ve talked about both, so if you wanted the opposite... send me another request I guess? Anyways, hope you like it!

yikes it’s really chaotic composition again but it’s only concept art so,,,

BUT I’VE FINALLY FINISHED THE SET IN MY #RODDAVERSE ATLA AU WE’VE GOT A FIRE BENDER

i was trying to figure out, as a blacksmith’s son, if Lief would be a fire bender or an earth bender (and hence, metal) for a long time. i wanted to make him a fire bender, but metal made more sense. however, since Jasmine was already a metal bender i didn’t want to repeat it, for the sake of the AU. 

and then i realised!! dragons!!!!! the original fire benders! and that’s literally my only justification for Lief as a fire bender.

it did occur to me that if Lief was the Avatar he could be both, but it felt like too clean a solution and honestly, the poor lad has been through enough that i really didn’t want to make him take on that type of responsibility. 

but later on i realised that being Adin’s heir and the Avatar have similar roles, and since this is an AU, the Avatar replaces the heir’s role in the world. similarly, the seven Tribes are replaced by the four nations, and i guess the Gems are the elements? anyway, part of Lief’s role as the King is to maintain peace and act as the bridge between his different peoples, and the Avatar unites the four nations in the same way. Adin would’ve been the first Avatar, and his heirs would be his next lives.

and i laugh because im imaging DQ1 where Lief, Barda, and Jasmine go off looking for the Avatar and undoing the Shadow Lord’s work (?) and then towards the end Lief snaps into the Avatar state and it’s like,,, ohhh. it’s me. it’s sort of like Zuko’s I Need To Find The Avatar but less anger and whatnot. 

(im also super upset that i forgot about burning the blood lilies until after i started colouring, so i wasn’t bothered trying to fit them in somewhere, so imagine)

also! firelords have cloaks, but i didn’t want to give Lief a big cloak even though he’d probably be a badass who can fight without tripping. but i gave him that sleeveless tunic instead, which i think looks nice? Lief’s cloak is apparently something that marks him, and i think the tunic is iconic enough to mark him (especially in contrast to his plainer, ordinary clothes).

Lief as bender?

Here’s Lief as a fire bender and an Asian-inspired Fidelis :D

i was meaning to do a fire bender for my roddaverse atla AU, but I couldn’t think of anyone really tangible the way that Jasmine’s senses fit seismic bending, Zeel literally flies around on a kite, and Verity had a relationship with the sea. i thought about Lief as a fire bender because he’s a blacksmith, but then i wondered if he should be a metal bender? i couldn’t choose, and i really didn’t want to just make him the avatar to have both.

but then i realised

like it didn’t have to, but now it’s justified!

the saga continues after Jasmine as an earth-bender because i had to do Zeel as an air-bender. she already flies through the skies with her glider kite, has her reed pipe as a Forerunner, the Travellers are nomadic,  got lost at sea as a child like Aang.

i had to do Verity as a water-bender, guys

(honestly, just so i could have her do a massive wave to swamp The Lady Luck ((which isn’t a battleship but i thought i felt like adding more ATLA into it)) and i quite like it) 

i liked the idea of her bending starting to come through when Laughing Jack kidnaps her, and it ‘wakes up’ like in Isle of the Dead, but maybe she could bend water as a child playing by the sea. this ATLA AU is ending up like a Happy Red Han and Verity AU.

i had to give Jasmine the same treatment as Verity and Zeel in my #roddaverse atla au.

Jasmine is an earth bender because of seismic sense, which she pretty much already has in canon; minus the earth bending of course. then i gave her a Kuvira-inspired outfit because i love it. and also Dai Li gloves (?) because they’re cool.

i thought hey earth bending would be useful at Shadowgate considering Jasmine, Barda, and Bede quote unquote drowned in rock, and then that spiralled into fighting an earth bender Kirsten. Jasmine is spidermanning like Republic City’s police to the Dome. and having Doom and Jasmine fighting in an arena is giving me life. i need some more.

I'm in love with your roddaverse atla au?? Seriously it all fits so well! My first impressions of Lief and Jasmine were like 'no way that doesn't fit' but the more I thought about it was like 'no wait Lief is impetuous with a quick temper and Jasmine is grounded and listens to nature' so good job!

honestly, i wasn’t even thinking about personality types when i did it. i was just thinking about things in Roddaverse canon like Jasmine had sharpened senses and could hear people/monsters coming (especially when she knelt to the ground) which i made the equivalent of seismic sense from earth benders. lief,, honestly, was just dragons, not gonna lie. dragons were the first fire benders, and i needed a fire bender so,,

and zeel has a kite that she flies around with, and verity was “raised by the sea”
