FYI the bill is to be withdrawn when Parliament (Legislative Council) resumes. We are still protesting bc (1) because police brutality and pro-China gang violence have not been addressed and these people need to be held accountable, & equally important (2) the reason why CE Carrie Lam could have pushed through such a deeply-unpopulated bill was bc she was not elected by the people but by a pro-China committee (same goes for most of the seats in Parliament), we r demanding universal suffrage 1/2

(contd) which was the goal of the 2014 Umbrella Resolution (a movement that was forcefully ended in a police crackdown and failed to achieve that goal). And actually if you look back further, hongkongers have been protesting for universal suffrage since the July 1st rally in 2003, just after the Handover. Long story short the goal is to have a govt that is actually voted by and represent the people (2/2)

4. Movie of the year?

So I can think of 5 movies I saw in theaters this year which is a LOT by my standards considering I am Not A Movie Person:

Black Panther

Disobedience

Ocean’s 8

Incredibles 2

Colette

If I had to choose one I guess maybe Colette? I think it helps that I went to see that one with a group of friends so I have more fun memories surrounding it than the others.

5. TV show of the year?

Ok so unlike movies I watch more TV shows in a year than I could reasonably list probably

This might be some recency effect but honestly my first thought is Doctor Who, which is a show that has been Important to me for longer than any other and after reluctantly sort of sticking with it through several years when it sucked it was really great to have it come back this year with a less shitty showrunner and Jodie Whittaker’s delightful Thirteenth Doctor

But if we’re talking shows that were new this year it would def be Killing Eve

there's a four minute recap at the beginning. I went in not having rewatched s1 or seen any recap video other than that one. but i think i did ok? nothing was particularly confusing. also general thought: i liked it but it definitely feels like they're gonna start slow again

Slower as in “hey we’re gonna take some time to focus on much needed character work” or slower as in “here is a slow-mo shot just for Aesthetics because we’re all style over substance” ?? I desperately hope it’s the former!

Well.... I've rewatched the whole season 1 a couple weeks ago, and it was as confusing as the first time around. But I don't think it's that important to rewatch it all, unless you do want to. As long as you remember how it ended, you should be good (there is a short "previously on" before 2x01 starts, too)

also, I really liked the premiere. It's such a mess LOL. Also I'm very curious about Maeve (how much real free will has she?). I have high hopes for this new season. S1 had a lot of world building and was kinda slow at times, but this one should be good.
