Your art style is very unique it reminds me of professional artist that draws old children stories
What inspired you ?
Thank you so much 😭😭😭 Im honestly very surprised whenever someone says I have any form of a style in what I do, because, personally, I think I am a bit all over the place (which is normal since Im still trying a lot of things out for myself)
First of all, I'm very inspired by Brecht Evens, especially the way he works with color and is capable of showing different light environments through it.

My brain chemistry was also forever changed by the way over the Garden wall artists went about depiction of creepy cartoony stuff.

Also, I've been going though a process of re-evaluating soviet art for the last couple of years. I absolutely HATED it as I child but I had to revisit it for one of my Uni researches and there are actually a lot of fun examples of work with color and shapes there????

my family is for real living out that tiktok about how men who don't like marvel will make you go see a serbian film about the end of the cold war shot from the perspective of a pigeon
in that my brother, without consulting anyone, decided that his hanukkah gift to my parents was buying them all tickets to see sátántángo
which, if you're not familiar, is a seven-hour film, usually shown with two intermissions, adapting a postmodern novel about a group of villagers in the aftermath of the collapse of a collective farm who suffer an assortment of nihilistic torments witnessed by an alcoholic doctor
i'm not saying that's intrinsically unenjoyable-- my dad actually might really like it given what i know of his tastes-- (my mother would find it unbearable and has already sold her ticket so that she and my brother can go to the mca instead on a separate occasion) but there's just something really magical about how precisely my brother has embodied the straw foreign-film-liker conjured by that meme in absolutely every way

“most adult [animated entertainment] is bad” isn’t true. you just refuse to engage with nonamerican animation and then complain about how much you dislike subtitles when an option to understand an nonenglish work is provided to you.

Spaceman (2024, March; Netflix)
Tumblr media
Why does Hanuš the space-spider never call Jakub the Czech cosmonaut, Jakub? And Hanuš instead keeps calling Jakub "skinny man"? I don't protest this about the movie. No, I think I love it.
Also I love how all the dialogue feels translated. As if it's not natively written in English. The post-neo-Soviet vibe, it fits the narrative so well.
In fact I think I'd love watching the movie with Czech audio and English subtitles. I wonder if that's possible... I suppose it's subtle but it would require me hunting for the Czech audio, which I'm 99% sure exists.
I also love the movie's subtext-dialogue about the notions of love, relationship, loneliness, attachment, self-centeredness, touch, beginning & end, cosmology, and so on and so forth.
So much to think about. It's like, I myself had to watch this in a couple of sittings, and I just had to watch it like two, three times to catch what I want to catch out of it...
