everyone stop what you're doing, go to tubi and watch dinner at fred's. i don't care if it's not christmas, this is about a guy trying to leave kevin mcdonald's house after staying the night but because of a cursed turkey they can't leave. it's gil bellows as the main character, christopher lloyd as the father trying to kill the turkey, parker posey as the quirky daughter the main character will fall in love with since it can't be the titular fred, who is played by kevin mcdonald in probably my new favorite role of his. just having all the best lines, delivery, and vibe of the whole movie while being the most attractive man i've ever seen. the curse is broken by a magic trick. once upon a time ripped this off

Behind the scenes photos of Dazed and Confused (1993)

Filmed in Austin by Richard Linklater, the movie also had breakout roles for future stars Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Joey Lauren Adam’s and Milla Jovovich.

This coming-of-age film follows the mayhem of group of rowdy teenagers in Austin, Texas, celebrating the last day of high school in 1976. The graduating class heads for a popular pool hall and joins an impromptu keg party, however star football player Randall Pink Floyd (Jason London) has promised to focus on the championship game and abstain from partying. Meanwhile, the incoming freshmen try to avoid being hazed by the seniors, most notably the sadistic bully Fred O'Bannion (Ben Affleck).

You know sometimes I think what would have happened if Kate, Sophie, Penelope had proper paternal figures around and I always come to the conclusion that Anthony, Benedict, and Colin wouldn't be able to get away with half the shit they do in their books if they did.

Kate and Penelope come from homes full of women, and their fathers are at least a few years passed by the time they meet their respective Bridgerton in the books. Poor Sophie also technically comes from a home full of women too but we don't count them except for Posey.

Like just imagine an au of Mr. Sharma, the Earl of Penwood, and Lord Featherington being alive and being good dads with these cads running around their daughters.

Mr. Sharma comes to town with his wife and daughters for a London season. The family can't really afford more than one season so they got to make this count. Then here comes the Capital R Rake, who claims to want to court one daughter but keeps making bedroom eyes at the other. When they go to Aubrey Hall Mr. Sharma pulls Anthony aside and questions which of his daughters did Anthony want to court exactly? He then tells Anthony he expects an answer and an official asking of courtship from him by the end of the trip. Anthony then has to hide from Mr. Sharma as he plans the details of his sudden engagement to Kate, and he may over gift on his end. He knows there's no way of hiding his mark on Kate's chest, and Mary for sure told her husband.

Mr. Sharma makes sure to spread the word back in London to be weary of the Bridgerton cads. While yes, socially and financially, they be a good match, their scandalous behavior will corrupt your daughters.

The Earl sees this first hand when Benedict is circling Sophie like a dog in heat. No, sir, you will not corrupt my daughter! Sophie now has the protection needed to force Benedict to put in the work for an actual courtship. None of that be my mistress here good sir! Serious suitors only!

Lord Featherington didn't believe these rumors of the Bridgerton cads at first, yes they were rakes but most gentlemen their ages had explored by that point before settling down with their wives, if they even stopped after that. But such behavior towards a gentleman's daughter? Unthinkable. His own beloved youngest daughters have been friends with the Bridgertons for years, and they've always been proper. Well, Lord Featherington had forgotten that while yes, Penelope has been friends with the Bridgertons for years. One certain Bridgerton had been away at school for most of that time, and she only really knew him in passing. In comes when Penelope is first debuted and Colin Bridgerton is home from his Grand Tour to finish out his schooling. Oh no, why is Bridgerton C looking at his daughter like he looks at a biscuit? Lord Featherington holds his breath, wondering if this year every year is when that cad Colin Bridgerton tries to corrupt his precious daughter.

‘Pimp’ and ‘Lyss’: The Immortal Young Brothers by Claude Johnson (Black Fives Foundation)

They were brothers on and off the court. William Pennington Young, sometimes known as “Pimp” to his friends, and his older brother Ulysses S. Young, known simply as “Lyss” to his pals, were an unstoppable sibling pair of African American basketball stars that played during the 1910s and early 1920s.

They also made significant pioneering contributions off the court, long after their playing days ended.

Ulysses was born in Virginia in 1894. A year later, after his hard working parents migrated tot he North in pursuit of a better life, younger brother William was born in Orange, New Jersey.

A few years later, in 1900, their parents rented a room of their home to a young couple from Virginia, the Ricks family, who had a newborn son named James. Over the years the Young brothers embraced little James as if he were their own kin, and as the older boys got involved in sports, so did their protégé.

Something in that combined household created serious athletic skills.

Lyss and William attended nearby Orange High School, where they starred in football, basketball, and baseball. In 1910, while still in high school, the pair began playing semi-pro basketball for the Imperial Athletic Club, a local squad that competed against such teams as the Newark Strollers, the Montclair Athletic Club, and the Jersey City Colored YMCA. The two immediately received attention in the black sports press, including the popular and nationally circulated New York Age.

Their attraction to basketball got young James hooked on the sport too, and he soon developed his own talent. One huge advantage was having the opportunity to learn from- and train with the Young brothers.

The little basketball apprentice, James Ricks, would grow up to become James “Pappy” Ricks, who would become a founding member of the New York Renaissance Big Five professional basketball team and eventually reach the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

After high school, the Young brothers attended Lincoln University in West Chester, Pennsylvania, which was not only America’s oldest historically black university but also was the closest to home for them. In college they both were once again three-sport stars. Though the brothers excelled in each sport, their first claim to fame was through football.

Playing quarterback, William was named as a Negro All-American during his senior year. Ulysses, playing end, was named to the Milton Roberts All Time Black College Football Squad for the 1910s Decade.

After graduating from Lincoln (“Pimp” was class valedictorian in 1917), the Youngs were recruited to play professional basketball in Pittsburgh by prominent African American sports promoter Cumberland Posey. Posey, historian Rob Ruck wrote in Sandlot Seasons, his landmark book that explores the city’s unique athletic heritage, “was,as much as any one man could be, the architect of sport in black Pittsburgh.”

The pioneering promoter had been cultivating Pittsburgh’s black basketball talent through his operation of several different squads in the city, most prominently the Monticello Athletic Association, since the early 1910s. But with America’s imminent entry into World War I and the resulting lack of resources, Posey decided to consolidate his best talent into one powerfully built team.

The result was the Loendi Big Five, a legendary combo that was sponsored and got its name from the Loendi Social & Literary Club, an exclusive African American social club in the the city’s predominantly black Hill District.

Adding the collegiate superstars from Lincoln not only helped Posey promote his new team but also sparked the Loendi Big Five’s domination of black basketball, with a dynasty that included four straight Colored Basketball World Championships from 1919 through 1923.

Picking Flowers

Luna had spent hours combing the meadows around the forbidden forest, collecting the most delicate blooms to tie into a ribbon.

So it was gratifying to watch as Ginny’s face light up across the great hall as she found the posey on the plate at her usual breakfast spot.

It was entertaining too, if a little frustrating, watching her interrogate every boy within a twenty metre radius as she tried to work out who they were from.

One day, Luna would be brave enough to put her own name on tag, as well as Ginny’s.

Roxy's text tone notification lit up her phone screen, pulling her from the well-deserved nap she'd accidentally fallen into at her writing desk.

"One day..." She muttered to herself, red pen dropping from where it had indented into her cheek. The assistant had attempted to use her day off of work to get a jump start on a new song, but it looked like that plan had quickly swirled down the drain. "They can't go one day without me..."

After an invitation from Pop Tiger to host another photo shoot for the band now that their first album was out, Gustavo and Kelly had the brilliant idea to invite a whole horde of teen gossip magazines into the halls of Rocque Records for a day-long shoot and interview session. While that sounded exhausting for the boys, it did mean lots of potential exposure to new audiences, and, of course, James was thrilled. There was almost nothing he loved more than rocking the camera of famous teen idol photographer Marcos Del Posey.

The boy buzzed about their packed schedule all day yesterday, going on and on about how he couldn't wait to try on all the cool outfits, give his best advice to struggling fans, and put his show-stopping dimples on display... Until he learned Gustavo and Kelly had told Roxy her services wouldn't be needed for the day.

Which, honestly, she was grateful for, because the last time she'd attended a photoshoot with the boys hadn't gone so well for her in the longrun.

So, to repay her bosses, she'd decided to spend the day combing through her old songbooks, searching for any shred of a lyric or melody she could transpose into the next Big Time Rush hit, when and overwhelming wave of sleepiness hit her and she tucked her head into her circled arms on the wooden desk.

Good thing the text, from James by the tone, had woken her up.

Rubbing a bit of crust from the corner of her eye, the writer softly shut her book and leaned back in her chair, listening to the sound of the fan in her room whir. All of her band posters, mostly any scraps she could find about her boyfriend in all of her favorite magazines, looked back at her.

Roxy reached for her phone, swiping to view the picture file James had sent, and immediately froze as her eyes locked onto the image.

Just as soon as the picture had come up on her screen, she jolted and locked her phone, staring at her own mirrored image in the pitch black glass.

The flush of heat roaring through her body came next, traveling from the tips of her toes, wedging butterflies in her stomach, to a distinct warmth blazing her cheeks and ears.

She unlocked her phone again to make sure the picture was real, the butterflies nearly doubling as her suspicions were confirmed, and locked it just as quickly.

And now she was embarassed, worried someone would look over her shoulder and see the image of her boyfriend shirtless and flexing in the wardrobe mirror, despite being all alone in her bedroom.

It would be wrong to take another peek, right? Or save it to her camera roll? Or daydream about running her hands down the hardened lines of muscle while they -

Buzz buzz

Another photo file. Roxy nearly dropped her phone on the ground.

Come on, Roxy, she childed, even though she practically slammed her phone onto the desk's wooden surface to keep from immediately opening the message. It's just James. Nothing you haven't seen before.

He went shirtless in the pool all the time or worked out without one in the hot summer mornings. Getting changed into his photoshoot outfit and snapping a picture is totally the same thing... she lied to herself in hopes some of the blood pouring into her ears would ease up.

Roxy briefly contemplated looking at the first picture again, closing her eyes and finding the image of him in his low-rise jeans burned into her brain before deciding against it. James wouldn't possibly send her two sexy pictures in a row...

Except of course he would, because he was James Diamond.

In this one, he was fully clothed, which Roxy couldn't tell if that was better or worse, but the gray t-shirt the stylists had put him in was very obviously one size too small.

The presence of one of Marcos' famous stuffy puppies, matching the big stuffed rottweiler Roxy had stolen from him all those months ago at the band's first shoot, was tucked under his arm, perfectly accentuating the sculpted build of his bicep.

And this one came with a caption.

J: Hey cutie. Pawsitively missing you.

Another pulse of bashfulness shot through her heart, though his second image was tame enough to keep her brain from liquefying and pouring out her ears; It gave her an idea of her own.

Gently pushing away from the table, Roxy made her way over to her bed, collecting the giant dog that normally spent its days lounging on her pillow, and snapping a photo of her own to send back.

R: You two look absolutely fetching!

At least the screen between the couple boosted her usually non-existent flirting confidence.

After a few moments, James send back a laughing emoji, followed by a small emoticon heart and blushing emoji.

J: I was thinking I could come over when we finish...?

R: Whatever you say, Red Rover.

Her message was painful to type, no doubt Gustavo would keep him and the boys at Rocque Records all night when all she really wanted was to see her boyfriend as soon as possible.

J: Your doghouse or mine?

And Roxy had meant to reply, falling onto her back as she held her phone up in both hands, but her finger slipped and scrolled back on their previous messages, first image flashing across her screen.

Cheeks burning once again, she threw her phone down onto the mattress, burying her face into her pillow.

It wouldn't be too out of pocket to drive over to Rocque Records and check on the shoot... Would it?

Homestead Grays was one of the most successful of the professional Negro League baseball teams. They won ten Negro National League Titles (1937-45, 1948) and three Negro League World Series Titles (1943-44, 1948), where they played the champion of the Negro American League. The team was based in Homestead, Pennsylvania, but played their home games at both Forbes Field in Pittsburgh and at Griffith Stadium in DC.

In 1900, a group of African American men from Pittsburgh formed the Blue Ribbon Industrial League Team, where they played pick-up games against some of the best sandlot teams in the Pittsburgh area. The Blue Ribbon Industrial League Team was active for 10 years but when the managers retired, the players renamed the team the Murdock Grays. They continued to play sandlot teams as the Murdock Grays for a season, but in 1912, Pittsburgh businessman Posey Cumberland transformed them into the Homestead Grays.

The Grays participated in four different Negro Leagues throughout their professional baseball career: Independent (1912-1928, 1930-1931), the American Negro League (1929), the East-West Negro League (1932), and the Negro National League (1935-48). The Grays were active from 1912 until they disbanded in 1950.

Much of the success of the Homestead Grays is attributed to the power hitting from longtime catcher Josh Gibson and first baseman Buck Leonard who were nicknamed the “thunder twins.” The Grays had “Smokey” Joe Williams, an ace pitcher who once struck out 26 batters in a 12-inning game. Other star players included many future baseball Hall of Famers such as “Cool” Papa Bell (outfield), Judy Johnson (third base), and Martin Dihigo (utility).

The Grays continued to play for two seasons after the Negro National League broke up in 1948 but disbanded in 1950. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
