Reality - Chapter 1 - Scott
https://archiveofourown.org/works/63940495/chapters/164004475#workskin

Notes:
TW: Major-ish character death Avalanches
Based when Scott is 10, Virgil is 8, John is 6, Gordon is 4, and Alan is 1
Scott had used to love ski holidays. Spending time at Snowbird, Whistler, Cardrona, Amirsoy. Laughing at his little brothers as they tried their best to keep unsteady feet on their snowboards or skis. Hearing his mom laughing when the lift stopped and Virgil started screaming because he thought they were stranded. Those were the days.
It had all ended with a crash and a bang when they heard the boom from just above where they were stopped. It sounded like a bomb, but Lucille quickly reassured the boys that it was “just an avalanche detonator. It’ll be far away from us. Remember, sounds echo up here.”
So, they continued on their way. However, Scott couldn’t help but notice how his mother was making sure they all stayed near the side. Then, just as they had managed to get halfway down the admittedly lengthy ski run, Scott finally heard the roar of something. Lucille’s face went pale.
“Kids. Run.”
“But-” Scott gaped, eyes wide as he felt his wrist get grabbed by his father as he was pulled up to the top of a ridge, Lucille quickly following.
In the corner of his eye, Scott could see a tsunami of pure pearlescent white rushing down the mountain at a speed he couldn’t even comprehend.
“Come on, sweetie. John, faster,” he could hear Lucille saying behind him. “We’re almost there.”
He could barely hear her voice anymore. The wave was loud, so abhorringly loud. Then, it was quiet. Horribly, horribly quiet.
“Lucy!” he heard his father screaming. That was when he knew something was off. “LUCILLE!”
Scott didn’t want to turn around. In the back of his mind, the 10 year old knew what had happened. He knew his mother was gone. But turning around would make it true, so he didn’t.
+++++++++++++++++++
Ten years later, and that horrible day at Ruapehu was still lodged fast in Scott Tracy’s now adult mind. They’d found her near the bottom of the avalanche, lips blue and eyes wide with shock, not breathing and pulse non-existent. No one had cried. Alan and Gordon had been too young to even know what death was, John and Virgil were too shocked to even react, and Scott had been in a heavy state of denial.
Today, Scott was 20, had too many responsibilities, and wished every single day that he had his mother there to at least give him some sort of help on how on earth he was supposed to run the family. Or his dad. God, he and his brothers were orphans, weren’t they. That fact was never going to be easy to swallow.
So, looking at his mother’s portrait on the wall, he decided on one thing. He would get his act together and make that woman proud.

Mavka (for @pinkberrytea)
Berry!!! 💕I know that I just pretty much professed my undying love to you on your bday, but buckle up cause I'm gonna do it again! I know that I say that a lot, but you are such an amazing person with such a kind heart, and you deserve every kindness! You've been such an amazing, supportive person, and I wonder each day what I did to deserve it 🥺 Thank you for being one of my best friends and such a source of light and positivity- this fandom and WORLD is a better place with you in it 💕
I hope I did consort Mav justice! She was a struggle, but I'd like to say a fun one! The hair was a constant battle, and I believe it has come out okay! My favorite part is always the make-up! I hope you like! 🩸
Sabine (for @caffeinatedmunchkin)

Do I only know how to draw the right side of faces? Is my hair linework slightly vague and confusing? Yes! But- a year or so ago I could barely do hair justice, so I'm gonna stick to my fun little blobs! 😁ROSE MY BELOVED 🌹 I hope you like her! Sabine hit me like a truck with her pretty face and wonderful backstory, and I love her so much!! I hope she kinda looks like your Sabine! I had a hard time haha 💚
You are INCREDIBLE- I will not hear a single word against that. I just want to shine a light on you, if I'm able, and highlight the boundless love and joy you've brought not only me, but I know so many other authors. You yourself are a force all your own- your writing is beautiful, and though I have yet to play Dragon Age, the way you write sucks me in- I'm sorry I haven't been able to say it much beyond the bits I've read, but your talent is lovely, and your personality priceless 💚ABBA BESTIES FOREVER 💚You deserve a thousand portraits, and I am so grateful you found me in this maze we call the internet! I am so thankful for you!
There will be more! Pray for me to get through them all (cause you could be next! Yes that's a threat!) Love you guys!!

For your last reblog, please do Mulcahy!!! I love your answers for him. You’re almost single handedly keeping Mulcahy girlies alive!
Thank you very much 😊
Alrighty, let's do the rest of these headcanon questions for Mulcahy!
3) Who depends on them? Everyone at 4077th, in someway shape or form, even if they don't really notice it. He would be prime for an "It's A Wonderful Life" kind of episode.
Back in Philadelphia...it's a very different story. Hell, one of the main reasons why he volunteered to go to Korea, was because he wanted to be useful and no one seemed to need him in Philadelphia.
4) What they would do if they had one month to live?
At first, I think Mulcahy would be very angry. He'd randomly lash out, he'd be hitting his punching bag. Then he'd get very solemn. He'd pray (a lot more than usual), and he'd drink heavily. Then Mulcahy would come out of that, and decide that his last days were better spent on others, instead of pitying himself.
He'd donate all his money, spend extra time with his friends and Kathy. He might even reach out to his brothers that he's long since stopped speaking to.
Mulcahy would give his all till the last moment of life, and still he'd ask quietly to himself, whether or not he'd really done enough.
5) A cherished personal belonging?
Well he has several things I can think of off the top of my head. The crucifix necklace he wears all the time, that was from Kathy. She gave it to him when he decided to join the church, and so it is very valuable to him.
He also has several photographs that he made a point to bring with him to Korea (one of his parents on their wedding day, as no one else seemed interested in having it, a picture of him and Kathy as toddlers, and then the one family portrait they had done when he was still a baby).
There is also his rather healthy library he took with him as well (Plato, War and Peace, The Completed Works of Shakespeare).
6) Something they lost, but would love to have back?
his hearing
His mother. She died just before his 18th birthday. I'm still deciding what actually killed her, but it definitely was caused in part to her having had so many children (7 total). It does things to your body.
If we're just talking about a general item, he has "lost" a couple of autographs from his favorite boxers (I say lost in quotations because what really happened was a nun found his autographed boxing magazines, including one signed by Artie Levine, and she threw them away because she didn't think it was appropriate for a priest to have so many images of shirtless men laying around. She claimed it was the boxing she took issue with, but we know what she was really thinking).
7) This character’s favorite character?
Hawkeye. It kinda goes without saying. Mulcahy is often in awe of him, and he finds him humorous (although a tad obnoxious at times), and he goes to him for help because he knows Hawkeye will be there when he needs him and won't judge him for reaching out.
Mulcahy is also great friends with Potter, though the man is much older than he is, they have a surprising amount in common (side note: is it just me or when William Christopher got old, he started looking more like Harry Morgan?)
Mulcahy also has very close friendships with both Klinger and Sidney.
8) What kind of car they would drive?
I don't think Mulcahy owns a car in his civilian life. Public transportation would have still been pretty common in 1950s Philadelphia and when he was in college at Loyola, that was in Chicago. No real big need to own a car when you're in a city center. That said, if he did have a vehicle, it would be old and second-hand. It would work but it wouldn't be fancy. Probably white or sand colored.
10) How they deal with pain?
Like physical pain? Dude can take a hit. When he was a featherweight boxer (his former life before Kathy got him to become a priest) he'd have concussions, couple broken ribs, black eyes, etc. Of course he gave as good as he got, and then some. But he has a pretty high pain tolerance.
(If you want to talk about that time that Margaret hit him and he acted like he was in pain, it's because she's a woman and he can't hit a woman, so he knew he'd have no way to physically defend himself if she really decided to let him have it. She's also REALLY strong.)
11) This character’s favorite piece or pieces of clothing?
Mulcahy isn't much into fashion. If it fits and doesn't have holes or stains on it, it's good enough for him. His priestly attire is more important to him than any civilian clothes he owns. That said, he is very fond of his Loyola hoodie (aren't we all?), that "G" baseball cap that Hawkeye bought him, and he does have one really nice lavender button down dress shirt (worn only on leave in Tokyo, which he seldom gets to do).
13) What kind of parent they would be?
The best kind. He would be soooooo loving and affectionate towards his children. He would spend so much time and energy engaging with them on their level. The kids at St. Teresa's Orphanage absolutely adore him, and he adores them right back. He's not great at discipline, though. That would be his partner's job, for sure. Not that he can't lay down the law, when needed, but he's afraid he's overdoing it and sounding like his father.
14) How they did in school?
Mulcahy was always very interested in learning and had no problem keeping up with the lessons. The trouble was that sometimes he just really wanted to read Plato or Aristotle or The Odyssey...and his teachers didn't appreciate him wanting to go off and do his own thing. He definitely got hit by at least one teacher at school fairly regularly for this.
Mulcahy always wanted to learn and discuss very broad topics, and his teachers didn't want to deal with that. Which was not great for him because they'd labeled him a troublemaker, and that got him the belt from his dad. Mulcahy always got on better with the girls in his class rather than the boys.
The boys were all like his brothers and his father; they wanted to rough house and when they got older, go skirt chasing. The girls liked him because he was sweet, and kind, and dorky. They felt safe with him. The boys also beat him mercilessly, until he was 12 and learned that it was OK to defend himself.
Many a time, he had his glasses broken, and once again, his dad would go right for the belt.
I think he was always on the outs in school, even in the seminary. I'm sure he had friends but he also had a lot of people looking at him as if he were just one giant question mark. No one really knowing what to make of him, and overlooking so many wonderful aspects of his being, because of that lack of understanding.
15) What cologne or perfume they would use?
I don't know if he really uses any. If Mulcahy does ever use cologne, it's going to be something cheap and earthy. He is a very cleanly person and he has really nice kinda fruity smelling soap and shampoo. Because he's around the church incense so often, it does stick to his robes. The incense has a nice cedar sort of smell to it.The point being in all this, is that he bathes regularly (probably the most often out of anyone in the main cast) and he does smell very nice.
17) What they’d sing at karaoke?
Something upbeat and fun. Maybe from a musical?
18) Special talents they have?
As previously stated, Mulcahy has a serious green thumb when it comes to his garden. He's also got one hell of a right hook for boxing. He plays piano (how well depends entirely on who you ask). Mulcahy has a pretty solid knack for gambling as a whole, but his odds do fair a lot better when making bets specifically on people...rather than cards. He can whistle pretty well too. Carries a nice tune when he sings (still better sounding with a partner).
Sometimes his most important talent is just getting people to agree to let things go with a small smile, and a tiny "please? 😇"
Mulcahy can also read Greek...though that's mostly just so he can read poetry in its original language.
Also did you see his sand castle in GFA? Dude has some mad skills to pull that one off without a mold.
Mulcahy is a mutitalented person. I didn't even name all his talents/skills.
20) Household chore they hate the most?
This is tough, because Mulcahy loves to clean. He loves dishes, and laundry, and finds dusting rather relaxing. Of course, this is all done as an act of service for someone else's benefit; the rest of the 4077th, those he shares the rectory with back home, his mother when he was a child, etc.
My best guess would be cooking. I think he can cook a fairly decent meal, but most of the time he's only ever cooked for himself and that immediately makes him disinterested in the task. He's just doing it because he has to eat. That's it.
21) Their fondest childhood memory?
Ok, not counting the Gentleman Joe memory because we already know all about that one. I'd say it's a memory of a time with his mother for sure. A time when the house was quiet, because his older brothers and Kathy were away at school, his father was working, and there with his head nestled in his mother's lap was baby Mulcahy, listening to her as she read to him, and stroked his head. It was a good place to be.
22) How they spend their money?
While in Korea most of his money goes to St. Teresa's Orphanage and a few creature comforts for himself.
Back at home he definitely still gives a lot to charity (he has his preferred organizations within the greater Philadelphia area). Of course he has to spend money on necessities such as food, toiletries, clothing items as they fall apart, etc. He gives gifts to his loved ones from time to time as well (birthdays and Christmas in particular, but sometimes just to cheer people up).
As for money he spends on himself just because; well he gambles and you gotta have money on hand for that, he sometimes splurges and treats himself to a good quality cigar or a higher quality beer. He's got some good leather dress shoes that he keeps well polished. Oh! And on theater tickets (both plays and the movies). He also occasionally hits the local art museums and will spend hours there looking at the paintings and statues.
(And as I write this, I know suddenly really want to take him to the MET, because he'd absolutely love it.)
23) What kind of alcohol they drink?
Beer and occasionally wine. His max alcohol percentage is 5%. Anything stronger than that and he will get plastered so quickly. Most of the time, when he drinks you'll notice him sort of nursing his beer, as opposed to chugging for the finish. He actually likes the taste of beer, and usually isn't trying to get drunk.
24) What they wish they could change about themselves?
Mulcahy wishes he was a better orator, the kind that really puts the butts in the pews and has them all feeling God's words deep in their hearts. For clarification on this, he isn't a terrible speaker, but his sermons are loaded with dad Father jokes and thinly valed stories of people he knows.
In general, Mulcahy just wants to be better. To do better. He's chasing the approval of others, because he doesn't really approve of himself. Self validation isn't his thing.
25) What other people wish they could change about them?
The people who know and love Mulcahy, wish he could see himself as they see him (goes for most of the fandom as well, I think). But at the same time, his humility is part of what makes him, him, so maybe they just wish he wouldn't beat himself up so much.
People who don't like him or at least don't particularly care about him (Frank, some higher ranking members of the military, couple church officials from his home parish, etc) they would want him to be a bit more "fire and brimstone", and to have a bit more military sense. They want him to be more traditional and fundamentalist in his views. And they'd also like him to stop with the Bible puns. But they don't matter, because they don't like him anyway.
I feel like I've missed some small but still very vital details, but that's the trouble with headcanons; I could go on and on.

Finding Her - Chapter Photos
Finding Her has a header photo for each chapter, taken using the in-game camera. These photos were inspired by the chapter contents or recreating one that Link takes in that chapter (if I could manage it!). Here they all are in one place!
Chapter 1
Log is accompanied by a picture of a Zonai Steward Construct. Its large, see-saw head is angled slightly to the side, as if perplexed.
Chapter 2
A photograph of a soft brown mare, saddled and ready for travel. Link is sitting in the saddle, smiling at the camera. The immediate next photo is a self-portrait taken by a Hylian Guard, Scorpis, the camera too-close to his face as he tries to snap a picture of himself and Link, who is waving to the camera from his horse.
Chapter 3
A photograph taken from Impa’s hot air balloon of the geoglyph of Hyrule Ridge, depicting a large figure with long ears and an outstretched hand.
Chapter 4
A photograph of the huge dark cloud that stretches high into the atmosphere. It is encircled by two dozen or so floating wooden structures.
Chapter 5
A photograph taken from the underside of a Lightroot, its sturdy vines wrapping around the central orange tuba and rising up towards the surface above.
Chapter 6
A photo of the Gorondia, the Fire Temple, emerging from the Depths. It is flanked by lava falls and seems carved from the bedrock itself. Unseen to the photographer is a small, ghostly figure of a young woman, with blonde hair and green eyes, standing on an upper level of the enormous structure. She looks at the camera with a blank expression.
Chapter 7
[Kakariko Village - this photograph is not depicted in the chapter]
Chapter 8
A photograph of a lone house in Hateno, in the old pre-Calamity style. It has a single chimney and a rendered brick exterior. Beside the house is a small garden with a large oak tree and a pond that glints in the moonlight. There are frogs in the water, strategically located beneath a concert of fireflies that have gathered at the pond.
Chapter 9
[Penn at Wetlands Stables - this photograph is not depicted in the chapter]
Chapter 10
[Mipha's Court - this photograph is not depicted in the chapter]
Chapter 11
A photograph of a Zonai contraption: a cart with a steering stick and two small wheels attached. There is a Zonai rocket attached to each wheel. The vehicle looks as fast as it is flimsy.
Chapter 12
A photograph of the Great Plateau with its evergreen trees and rolling landscape. The Temple of Time is in the foreground, ahead of a gentle hill that rises towards the overlook leading into the Shrine of Resurrection. A campfire is burning, just off the pathway up the hill.
Chapter 13
A photograph of the painted mural in the Gerudo underground shelter, a determined Riju standing before it. She is deep in thought, a hand to her chin. There is no hint of fatigue on her features.
Chapter 14
[Purah at Lookout Landing - this photograph is not depicted in the chapter]
Chapter 15
A photograph of Lurelin Village and the Pirate Ship on its shores. The huge, horned skull on the bow leers with blank menace. On the ship, a group of bokoblins and their boss bokoblin dance and jeer.
Chapter 16
A photograph taken from the Thunderhead Isles of the Popla Foothills to the north. The Light Dragon is seen flying just below the clouds. There's a sense that, no matter where someone is in the world, the dragon’s light would shine upon them. It's a familiar feeling, like the light that shone from Hyrule Castle when its Princess called out to— wait. No, stop that. That’s— what are you talking about? The feelings aren't familiar at all. It’s just a dragon. Nothing more. This isn't even a good photo. It’s blurry, and dark, and should just be deleted.
Chapter 17
A photograph of a ring of Silent Princesses. They grow tall, strong and radiant, and are clustered around a small shallow in the ground. At the centre, a dragon tear awaits.
Chapter 18
[Josha at her research station - this photograph is not depicted in the chapter]
Chapter 19
[Penn at Washa's Bluff with the Light Dragon overhead - this photograph is not depicted in the chapter]
Chapter 20
[Rist Peninsula as the sun rises - this photograph is not depicted in the chapter]

Assignment 6 part 1 and 2
Part 1: Comparing photo projects
The two projects I am comparing are “A Day in a single mother’s Life” by Marina Salama from the Cairo Student Photography website and “Time as we know it,” a project by Marna Clarke from the Lens Culture competition winners' critics' choice 2022. In the first project, Salama spends a day with a single mother and her son and photographs how their day goes and their connection (Figure 1). In her photo essay project, which falls under the documentary photography genre, Salama talks about how Azza Sultan, the single, divorced mother, had lived with her kid Hazem since 2006 when he got divorced and is in charge of raising him and spending time with him, and how she and her son live in the same neighborhood with her ex-husband and his wife and kids (Salama,(n,d)).
Figure 1: Hazem and his mom Azza looking from the balcony of their house, Marina Salama.
In the second project, the photographer Marna Clarke shares intimate portraits of her an 81 years old wife and her husband, who is 92, as they experience getting old with all its physical and psychological challenges (Figure 2) as an attempt from the photographer to deal with “the inevitability of aging and dying by bringing attention to it and accepting it.” (Clarke,2022)
Figure 2: “Embrace Igor holding me gently, 2013, Marna Clarke.” (Clarke,2022)
The two projects are similar. They are both photo essays that tell the story of two people going through an experience together at the same time and are there for each other, whether it is being a single mother responsible for a kid (Figure 3) or an aging couple where the wife gets old with her husband gracefully (Figure 4). Both topics are taboos and unusual and shed light on subjects one discusses.
Figure 3: Azza’s son Hazem on his laptop. He is an introvert who likes to spend time alone, Marina Salama.
Figure 4: Igor on Sofa Under Painting. Igor resting with legs and casted arm up underneath one of his paintings, 2021. (Clarke,2022)
The difference between them is in style and how each photographer chose to approach their topic. Marina’s photographs are raw, unorganized, and maybe not visually appealing. They are picturing the subjects’ life the way it is, which tells us more about them, where and how they live as if the viewer is there (Figure 5). Clarke’s photos are framed well and have esthetically well-done exposures in colors and light (Figure 6). They focus on the old couple and how their bodies experience aging more than their environment and lifestyle. One thing that could have been done better in the first project is to have captions under each photo to allow more understanding and contextualization of the photo.
Figure 5: Items from Azza and Hazem’s house, Mirna Salama
Figure 7: “My legs in the morning light, Clarke, 2020” (Clarke, 2022)
Part 2: Proposal
My final project is entitled Egypt and Masr. I will shed light on social differences and inequality in the country. Since the day I stepped into Egypt, I noticed how different is Tagamo3 lifestyle than other parts of Cairo. It is either expensive places with costly lifestyles or other areas of the city that are underdeveloped and have a completely different lifestyle. It is almost like two worlds, and each is the opposite. The first one is Egypt, in English referring to the modernization and the social class that characterizes it. The second is Masr, in Arabic, referring to the country in North Africa still struggling with uneven development.
The value of the project is in how it focuses on a taboo phenomenon, and both sides are detached from each other; therefore, I want to photograph that detachment. This may have been done already, but I believe it is an alarming phenomenon in Cairo, and we must discuss it and document it through photography. The genre is documentary photography, and the project will be a photo essay as I’m telling the story of how two-faced Cairo is and the gap between social classes. The photos will be colored, with no writing on them. They will be a mix of portraits and landscapes from different parts of Cairo addressing the topic in daylight and at night. The establishing shot will be a photo of the city from Cairo Tower.

WK2 SDL: 12 Photographers & Portrait style analysis:
Image #1 & #2: Shirin Neshat: https://www.gladstonegallery.com/artist/shirin-neshat/work-detail/8052/i-simin-from-land-of-dreams-series-i
Mostly black & white photography, Posed, studio controlled lighting, Political themes like fundamentalism/dictatorship, Cultural identity, Fanaticism, Feminism, high contrast, often overlays her photography with farsi text and calligraphy and poetry to evoke culture and background and explore themes of being a woman in Iran, Often/Mainly features portraits of women or her now self (eg; 'Speechless'), her images are dreamy and lyrical and bold and confrontational which evokes defiance, and the feminine spirit. https://www.blind-magazine.com/news/portrait-of-an-artist-in-conversation-with-shirin-neshat/
2) Nadav Kander:
Source:
youtube
cinematic, feels very still, lots of negative/empty space, can be black & white or colours, sometimes adding elements in post but knows when to be reserved and when to add to an image, most of his portraits have studio lights, backlit, atmospheric quality, soft textures and melancholy colour/tonality, sort of sombre feeling and meditative affect, soft focus, diffraction, and a subtle halo around the subject
3) Dana Scruggs
youtube
(image sourced from the video linked above: A self portrait taken during Covid quarintine by Dana Scruggs)
-high contrast images, strong shapes & fluid form, empowering imagery, celebrates Black subjects & identity, dynamic, makes use of available light, works fast, off camera flash/or single strobe, unexpected and intimate images, clever placement of subject in frame. In this case, she is cleverly placing herself by the window so that she is lit by daylight, and the room is softly lit too but fades into the shadows, so she chose a very specific time of day.
4) Richard Avedon
black & white, stark white backgrounds, fashion photography style, emphasis on the subject, uses studio lighting, minimal style with lots of negative space, uses strobes. In this case, I don't see harsh shadows on his subjects face so there's soft box lighting ahead of him to fill in the shadows and give softness to the face and features, and there's no shadows behind him so I'm guessing that he's backlit as well..
5) Annie Leibovitz
youtube
-full length, negative fill, big soft box (parabolic lighting) up close, light is coming a little bit from behind / sort of angled a little bit back so that light almost glances across the face & body from the side by coming just infront of the subject and glancing away, hard fall off of light, creates shadows.
6) Dorothea Lange:
-very cropped, intimate, photo is taken in natural daylight, the centre if the image (the boy's face) is brighter and the edges are framed by dark done in post, ethereal and dreamy innocent feel to the image, film grain/textured, not stark black & white, soft, warm tonality, showcasing and creating empathy.
7) Platon
-sits on floor/shoots from slightly below to get subject to lean slightly down and forwards, graphic simple clear minimalistic image, focus is tight on the face of the subject, the face is lit by controlled studio light faced directly at the face but it's soft so its a soft box type of light, diffused but not too diffused, very dark back ground so the light must be strong and close and no other lights to fill in, 35mm wide angle camera so he can get nice and close to the subject, relaxed subject/in control position, very deep and up close and personal, edges are dark and frames the lit face which is the central and only focus, very clean aesthetic.
8) Peter Lindbergh
-Raw image, fashion/editorial, naturalistic, lit by daylight, high contrast lighting lights her face at an angle from the front-left, black & white but natural, famous for no retouching or photoshopping to the images afterwards, moody, cinematic feel, minimal makeup on the model, medium shot, lots of movement in hair from wind, telephoto lens to get close to the subject.
9) Irving Penn
-posed deliberately in a corner ( a signature of his), simple minimal background to confine and draw the eye of the viewer, fashion/editorial, simple light set up; could be daylight from infant and slightly above... or studio light set up in front and slightly above agreed down? (he was famous for a 'northern' lighting technique with one light). This is image was likely taken in studio. lots of contrast. The image is very confronting and direct yet relaxed and truthful.
10) Sally Mann
-romantic imagery, moody, black & white film, the image is peculiar, ephemeral, the light is coming from above, I think it could be a natural environment they're in so the light is natural light maybe dappled through some trees above or something like that? definitely from above and very strong, everything else recedes into the background and disappears, vignetting, she is taking the photo from a low position and angled downwards.
11) Jo Spence
feminist themes, socialist, photography is raw, as therapy, this portrait is close up, medium, studio light angled 45degrees from the back left so that the light travels across her body toward the front, and perhaps slightly pointing up towards her face, no other right source, colour is very true and natural, she is posed close to the wall...maybe about a meter, but no harsh shadows in the background so the light is filling in because its angled sideways. I think its beautiful, yet more truthful and real instead of something dreamlike.
12) Ziqian Liu
Image shot in natural light, light is soft and diffused from a window, similar to morning lighting, the mirror is symbolic of the ideal, she's working with reflection, the light will also be reflecting onto her, and the camera seems very slightly angled/turned but centred. She is working with her natural environment. Evokes simplicity, natural beauty, serenity, nature and balance.

7x3=21 : Simple. Small. Made up of only elegant numbers. 3 is a child. but a child with no personal relationship to 7. So perhaps this equation is his view of her from a distance, mysterious, respectable, and chic. Additionally, 7 and 3 create the perfect number of 10 when added.
7x7=49 : Mother crossover event for the ages. She stands alone but does not stagnate, and almost arrives at the highly elegant 50. 49 consists of 4 and 9. 4 is a young child of no relation to her, but happy and well adjusted for her age, a total inverse of 9. 9 is death, the gate every number must pass through before entering the double digits, everyone loses something to him, but 7's loss is highly personal and painful.
Also significant is not arriving at 50, the tens place, and therefore adult and or more powerful form of 5, her mistreated son. Maybe she is unwilling to face him and how she failed. Maybe she is confident enough to stand next to him, and potentially make amends. This equation is an almost complete portrait of 7 and her contradictions, but leaves just enough gaps and shadows to remain mysterious. Perhaps it is her own view of herself in an uncertain but optimistic present. Regardless, the vivacity of 4, gothicism of 9, and uncut chicness of 7 create what is maybe the most glamorous single process equation.
7x8=56 : And the gaps in the portrait are filled in, unveiling all of 7's most miserable edges. 8 is the barrier between 7 and 9. On one side of the coin he keeps peace and cushions the loss and pain 7 and other numbers feel surrounding 9, but on the other is stifling and repressive. He is not malicious, but his paternalism prevents catharsis from being reached.
56 is 7's two children, and by extension her parenting. 5, as we have established, is her mistreated son. He is younger, and much more distant from her, mostly hanging out with 10, 8, or the younger numbers. His older forms are important, powerful, and of upright moral character. In contrast, 6 is 7's older son whom she has spoiled and coddled. He is more or less isolated from the other numbers except for 8, who he looks up to as an older brother figure. His older forms are petulant but otherwise completely unremarkable.
This equation is almost entirely centered on 7's unhappy recent past, and perhaps is her own negative memory of the period. The paternalism, poor parenting, and inescapable domestic misery create what may be the most unmistakably heterosexual equation.

New iPad Mini 6 and Low-End iPad Model Launch Dates

The September 2021 sixth-generation iPad mini sports a bigger display, no Home button, A15 Bionic chip, and USB-C port.
The iPad mini has squared edges, an all-screen design, and a top power button Touch ID fingerprint scanner like the iPad Air. Volume buttons are on top and there’s no Smart Connector on the rear, unlike the iPad Air. Latest iPad mini lacks Touch ID Home button.
The iPad mini has 8.3-inch 2,266 by 1,488 Liquid Retina display. The display has True Tone, P3 broad colour, and 500 nits. A15 Bionic CPU makes the iPhone 13 80% faster than the iPad mini. Initial 5G iPad minis.
Added features include a 12MP Wide rear camera with ̒/1.8 aperture and a 12MP Ultra Wide front-facing camera with Centre Stage for video chats.
The sixth-generation iPad mini magnetically stores, pairs, and charges this second-generation Apple Pencil. The 10-hour battery life matches previous iPads. Space Grey, Pink, Starlight, and Purple iPad minis are available. The 64GB Wi-Fi-only iPad mini costs $499 and the 256GB $649. Cellular models cost $150 extra.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said in his Power On email today that new iPad models, including the iPad mini, would be available as early as late 2024.
Design
Apple dramatically altered the sixth-generation iPad mini to resemble an iPad Air. All-display iPad minis lack bezels and Touch ID Home buttons.
Reduced bezels make the iPad mini 6’s 8.3-inch display larger than the mini 5’s 7.9-inch. Touch ID is on the top power button because there is no Home button. The iPad mini 6 has flat, rounded display edges like the iPad Air, iPad Pro, and current iPhones. The iPad mini’s top and bottom are slimmer despite its narrow bezel.
The iPad mini measures 7.69 inches (195.4 mm) long, 5.3 inches (134.8 mm) wide, and 0.25 inches (6.3 mm) thick, but the iPad mini 6 eliminates the mini 5 headphone jack. Apple’s smallest tablet, the iPad mini, weights 293 grammes. Cellular versions feature more hardware and weigh a few grammes.
First iPad with top-mounted volume controls. Volume buttons are on top to permit a magnetic side connector for charging the second-generation Apple Pencil.
Landscape cellular iPad minis have a nano-SIM slot on the side, two speakers on top and bottom, and a microphone. One-lens rear camera. Space Grey, Pink, Purple, and Silver-Gold Starlight are iPad mini 6 hues.
Power TouchID
Touching the iPad mini’s top Touch ID power button detects your fingerprint like the mini 5’s Home button. Touch ID unlocks iPads, opens apps, uses Apple Pay, etc. On iPad mini 6, Touch ID works in portrait and landscape. The Touch ID power button activates Siri.
USB-C
Apple replaced the Lightning port with a bottom USB-C port to align the iPad mini with the Air and Pro. USB-C links the iPad mini to 4K and 5K TVs, cameras, and more. The right USB-C cable charges iPhones and Apple Watches at 5Gbps.
Display
The 8.3-inch, 2266×1488, 326-ppi iPad mini 6 display is laminated. Like the iPad Air, the iPad mini 6 offers True Tone and Wide Colour for vibrant colours.
True Tone matches display white balance to ambient lighting for eye comfort. The iPad mini’s display warms to avoid clashing with the room’s yellow lighting. The iPad mini 6 has 500 nits, 1.8% reflectivity, and antireflective coating. Every iPad has oleophobic fingerprint protection.
Apple Pencil
The second-generation Apple Pencil works with iPad mini 6, Air, and Pro. The magnetic strip on the iPad mini 6 charges the Apple Pencil 2.
A15 Bionic Chip
The iPhone 13’s 6-core A15 CPU runs at 2.9GHz on the iPad mini 6. Due to downclocking, iPad mini CPU is 2–8% slower than iPhone 13. Single-core and multi-core Geekbench scores for the iPad mini 6 average 1,595 and 4,540. Average iPhone 13 single-core and multi-core scores are 1,730 and 4,660.
Chip is stronger than iPad mini’s, slower than iPhone 13. One-core and multi-core performance are 40% and 70% quicker on the iPad mini 6 than the mini 5. 4-core and 5-core GPUs for A15 CPU. The iPad mini has the iPhone 13 Pro’s faster 5-core CPU. The iPad mini 6 has 80% quicker graphics.
A Brain Engine
Cinematic Mode and Smart HDR 3 use 15.8 trillion image signal processor operations per second from the A15’s 16-core Neural Engine.
RAM
The new iPad mini features 4GB RAM, up from 3GB. Its RAM matches iPad Air.
Space to Store
Base 64GB and 256GB iPad minis exist. None in 128GB.
Rear Camera
The iPad mini 6 features a 12-megapixel rear camera with /1.8 aperture, 5x digital zoom, 5-element lens, and quad-LED True Tone lighting. Camera is equivalent to iPad Air but not as advanced as iPhone 13 or iPad Pro.
Panorama, Burst Mode, Smart HDR 3, Live Photos, Focus Pixels, broad colour capture, auto photo stabilization, and more are supported. Slo-mo 120 or 240 fps and 4K 24, 25, 30, or 60 fps are supported. The iPad mini can capture 1080p at 30 or 60 fps with time-lapse, cinematic stabilization, and continuous focusing.
Camera facing front, centre stage
A front-facing FaceTime HD camera has /2.4 aperture and 122 degree field of view. FaceTime’s Centre Stage, debuted with the iPad Pro, works with the front camera.
Centre Stage frames FaceTime calls. Wide-angle front-facing camera shows more, while A15 keeps you in focus when moving.
When there are many calls, the camera zooms out for visibility and sound. Centre Stage works with Zoom and other video apps despite being FaceTime-designed.
Battery Life
The iPad mini 6 utilises its 19.3-watt-hour battery. The battery lasts 10 hours on WiFi and 9 hours on cellular for surfing and streaming video, according to Apple.
Connectivity
The iPad mini 6 supports 5G networks, although not the fastest mmWave networks like US 5G iPhones. It only operates on slower but more common Sub-6GHz networks.
The fastest 5G networks are mmWave, but they are short-range and can be blocked by buildings, trees, and other obstacles, thus they are only used in major cities, concerts, airports, and other busy areas.
Urban, suburban, and rural US and international areas use sub-6GHz 5G more. Due to its low availability, mmWave won’t be missed in most 5G networks.
WiFi and Bluetooth
Both Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11ax WiFi 6 are supported on the iPad mini 6.
Other Features
The iPad mini has a barometer, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, and three-axis gyroscope.

[6 Images: First one is a cover page consisting of a photo of an armchair, a spooky wardrobe, and a portrait of a stern woman. Text reads "Five Haunted Houses and their Literary Descriptions." The rest are all just screenshots of text.
Image 2: Hill House. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. (para break) This house, which seemed somehow to have formed itself, flying together into its own powerful pattern under the hands of its builders, fitting itself into its own construction of lines and angles, reared its great head back against the sky without concession to humanity. It was a house without kindness, never meant to be lived in, not a fit place for people or for love or for hope. Exorcism cannot alter the countenance of a house; Hill House would stay as it was until it was destroyed. (The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson)
Image 3: 124. 124 was spiteful. Full of a baby's venom. The women in the house knew it and so did the children. (para break) Shivering, Denver approached the house, regarding it, as she always did, as a person rather than a structure. A person that wept, sighed, trembled and fell into fits. Her steps and her gaze were the cautious ones of a child approaching a nervous, idle relative (someone dependent but proud). A breastplate of darkness hid all the windows except one. Its dim glow came from Baby Suggs' room. (Beloved by Toni Morrison)
Image 4: Silver House. This house is bigger than you know! There are extra floors, with lots of people in them. They are looking people. They look at you, and they never move. We do not like them. We do not like this house, and we are glad to be going away. This is the end of our letter. (para break) Our new house had two big brown grids of windows with a row of brick in between each grid. No windows for the attic. From the outside the windows didn't look as if they could be opened, they didn't look as if they were there to let air or light in, they were funny square eyes, friendly, tired. The roof was a solid triangle with a fat rectangular chimney behind it. Lily bounced out of the van first and I scrambled out of the other side and crooked my arm so as to escort her to the door. The house is raised from the road and laid along the top of a brick staircase, surrounded by thick hedge with pink flowers fighting through it. (White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi)
Image 5: High Place. This house is sick with rot, stinks of decay, brims with every single evil and cruel sentiment. I have tried to hold onto my wits to keep this foulness away, but I cannot. And I find myself losing track of time and thoughts. Please, please. They are cruel and unkind, and they will not let me go. I bar my door, but still they come. They whisper at night, and I am so afraid of these restless dead, these ghosts, fleshless things. (Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia)
Image 6: The House of Usher. I know not how it was --- but, with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit. I say insufferable; for the feeling was unrelieved by any of that half-pleasurable, because poetic, sentiment, with which the mind usually receives even the sternest natural images of the desolate or terrible. I looked upon the scene before me --- upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain --- upon the bleak walls --- upon the vacant eye-like windows --- upon a few rank sedges --- and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees --- with an utter depression of the soul which I can compare to no earthly sensation more properly than to the after-dream of the reveller upon opium --- the bitter lapse into every-day life --- the hideous dropping off of the veil. (The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe)]

#seasonal#YEAH BOIIII#typing all of these out made me feel very vibrant and excited for spooky season#haunted houses!!#i was thinking of rereading haunting of hill house but maybe i should try one of the others#beloved is a classic#these are all classics lol#q4u

Carrie Mae Weems
“My work endlessly explodes the limits of tradition.”
Weems uses her own persona to “respond to a number of issues: woman’s subjectivity, woman’s capacity to revel in her body, and the woman’s construction of herself, and her own image.” (Weems, quoted in Carrie Mae Weems: The Kitchen Table Series (Houston: Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, 1996), 6). Weems, or rather her protagonist, inhabits the same intimate domestic interior throughout the series.
Carrie Mae Weems (American, b. 1953). Untitled (Woman and Daughter with Children) from The Kitchen Table Series, 1990. Gelatin silver print, 27 ¼ x 27 1/4.
Her works centre around the same dining room table and single hanging light. The downlighting focuses on the subjects at the table, honing in on the story they tell together. The series of photographs from The Kitchen Table Series has a continuous elements of the main "protagonist" Carrie herself. They appear as an externalisation of an internal dialogue of personal experience.
The image above in particular has the portrait subject still with the other supporting subjects blurred in movement which a really dynamic frame. It looks similar to how some scenes in moving image present time passing by with the main character standing still among movement.
In other images I found these isn't sitting in the centre but sometimes standing behind the light or sitting at the side of the table. Some photos she engages with the camera but most she doesn't and is otherwise engaging or observing the other subjects in frame.
This is an interesting approach to a series of photographs to tell a story, particularly in the sense you can tell quite a complex narrative with the same setting and lighting. For variation, changing the angle or height of the camera, change in focal length, range of focus and changing frame position.
