It is such a lovely feeling that fills Jun’s chest when his eyes fall upon Lúcio’s face—upon his soft brown curls, tied messily back at his neck, upon the familiar little freckle beneath his right eye, upon his gaze the color of verdant summertime leaves that remains unchanged, even now.

“Jun!” Lúcio calls, rushing forward, and then they are in each others’ arms. He smiles, and it is still the brightest, most beautiful thing that Jun has ever seen. “Qīn ài de, it’s so good to see you.”

“And you, meu coração…it’s been a long few months.”

Before them is a set of roughly-hewn stone stairs that give way to a little beach, the waves lapping gently at the last few. Side-by-side, they sit on one of the dry steps, their hands entwined. Lúcio leans on Jun’s shoulder, and Jun pulls him close.

“Happy S.A.R. Establishment Day, Jun,” Lúcio says softly.

“Thank you, Lúcio…” Jun trails off. “To think…”

“Hmm?” Lúcio prompts him.

“To think…to think that of all things, this place has stayed the same.”

“It really has been a long time, hasn’t it? Since those days.”

“Do you ever…miss those times?”
