for this scene in particular! siffrin says crab a lot in the forgotten language, replacing stars as their go to expression.

isabeau notices this, a la isaquest, and thinks siffrin might like crabs.

this goes in the opposite direction of canon isaquest, since siffrin has vague feelings of hatred for the poor crustacean isa brings him.

as a result: dropkick that crab.

Noticed Something About Inkerton...

So, I know it’s most likely a design choice so he doesn’t look so cluttered with all them keys and arms, but Inkerton only has two tentacles and four arms. Don’t squids usually have eight arms?

And Roland the Isopod said he rescued Inkerton from the seabed?

This makes me think Inkerton was in a bit of a pickle, like being killed/eaten, or seeking shelter from escaping said situation? Or maybe he lost his will to live?

For how much of a badass Inkerton is, and how much he bottled up his resentment for Roland, his lack of purpose and his boss making him into what he is today really stuck with him. Then, after Inkerton’s betrayal to Roland, and defeat from a small hermit crab, he just accepts he doesn’t have any point to living anymore.

Lost to a warrior lobster, killed his abusive boss (therefore losing his job), then lost to a small crab at the “Bottom of the Drain” (illustrating he was at his lowest) really must have done a lot of damage to his pride and will.

Inkerton must have already been miserable and thought he wasn’t worth much more than someone to just use if two defeats to two crustaceans, and him shooting his boss point blank after one too many insults thrown his way (Roland literally called him ‘good-for-nothing’), made him lose his will to live that fast. Not to mention he recognizes he has sinned and will be going to Hell.

Funny how just a bunch of small details can somewhat flesh out a minor character.

Anyway, I have a crush on a shucking squid, that’s a new thing I didn’t know I had.

it has come to my attention that some of you have never seen a horseshoe crab. so here’s a video from Friday. please behold the creature that literally was already chillin’ when the dinosaurs came around and is still just doin’ its thing. they basically haven’t changed in 445 million years. it is technically not a crab but most closely related to arachnids. the inside bit looks like a facehugger. they’re great.

Tuk Tries Crab Unsuccessfully

Neteyam and Tuk sit together at a communal dinner while the rest of their family socializes

“Here Tuk, try this,” Neteyam says, handing his sister a crab leg. “Ao’nung showed me how to eat it.”

Tuk smiles, happily taking the new food. The food in Awa’atlu, while not the same as at home, is still good and everything she’s been given, she’s liked.

Neteyam looks around in search for one of the cracker he just saw. “Hold on Tuk.” With a sigh, he gets up and goes in search for one again.

Neteyam comes back, not a minute later, to a pouting Tuk. Her face shrouded in disappointed. Immediately, Neteyam’s filled with worry. “What’s wrong?”

“I didn’t like it.”

“Well, you’re supposed to take off the shell.”
