Un dimanche à Pionner Village. C’est le pool party aujourd’hui une suite de 4 jours de fête au camping. Hot dog et bières gratuites. Ça on n’a pas vu ça souvent chez les américh. Hier on est passé devant la maison de Thomas Edison qu’on peut visiter pour 30$ américains par personne… Bon un dimanche tranquille au camping pour éviter les plages qui sont bondées aujourd’hui. Surtout le trafic qui vient avec. La température monte à tous les jours ce qui nous pousse à prendre la route vers le nord jeudi.

Jour 61. Partis le 23 novembre 2018, mais on est revenu durant les fêtes donc, en tout on a voyagé 61 jours aux USA.  Aujourd’hui visite de Fort Myers. On s’aperçoit assez vite que la ville n’est pas une destination en soit. Assez jolie mais tranquille. C’est la ville de Thomas Edison, Ford et M. Firestone. Ils ont vécus en même temps et pas très loin les uns des autres à Fort Myers. Beaux cafés et bar près de la rivière dont le nom est impossible de se rappeler. Les gens viennent ici pour les plages de novembre à avril. Alors ça doit être assez tranquille ici l’été. Beaucoup de bateaux dans les marinas mais moins riches quand même que Naples ou Fort Lauderdale.

Fallait bien connaître le monstre. Alors on a fait le tour du camping, fait la connaissance de la salle communautaire, l’église, les jeux de pickelball, le tournoi du shuffleboard de ce matin,  le parc de roulottes, les terrains de tennis, etc. La piscine a un taux d’utilisation maximum…de personnes âgées. 75 ans et plus. Ils restent dans  avec leur nouilles multicolores en discutant entre amis. Les francos avec les francos et les anglos avec les anglos. On dit que l’espagnol est la seconde langue en Amérique. Pas ici. Pas un latinos. Le camping est situé près de l’autoroute 75. Assez loin pour ne pas l’entendre toutefois. Mais la plage est à 50 km. Malgré tout j’ai eu toutes les misères pour réserver. On nous dit que le taux d’utilisation est en croissance depuis 5 ans. La population vieillit !!! Ce soir Karaoke.

Bon, on vient de changer de catégorie de camping. Pionner village est un camping de 500 places plus 200 places de roulottes. Beaucoup de québécois. On a été reçu par un de leur représentant qui nous a indiqué les activités de la fin de semaine. Musique, danse, spectacle etc. En plus à tous les jours il y a des activités sportives dont la pétanque, le shuffleboard, la piscine Cardio etc. Vélo tous les matins. Golf le mardi. Bref un camping qui n’en est pas un, pour les québécois   mais aussi les américains, mais ils ne sont pas majoritaires. Reste à découvrir les alentours. On a déjà commencé parce qu’il a fallu passé chez le concessionnaire Dodge pour changer une lumière de phare qui avait explosé et un changement d’huile.

On s’est battu toute la soirée et la nuit avec les moustiques même si les moustiquaires sont mises et les portes fermées. Nicole a accepté de faire fonctionner l’air climatisé malgré le bruit. C’est tout dire. Aujourd’hui on a passé une partie de la journée chez les millionnaires de Naples, sur la plage. Il y a aussi pas mal de milliardaires. Vous cherchez une maison ? Pas de problème mais soyez prêt à débourser plusieurs millions.de dollars américains. Ça ne nous a pas empêcher de passer l’après midi à la plage. L’eau est encore fraîche, 68C selon Nicole. Il y a quand même des baigneurs. Dernière journée avec les moustiques on se dirige maintenant vers Fort Myers. On a réussi à s’enregistrer de peine et de misère dans un camping privé. Pionner Village. Un petit camping de 500 sites. Inutile de dire qu’on va se perdre parmi les gros classes A.

C’est la première fois qu’on sent le besoin de partir l’air climatisé. Le soleil est brûlant. On se loue un canot pour visiter les mangroves. Toujours aussi fascinants. L’eau est un peu salée ce qui limite la biodiversité des animaux. Pas d’alligators et les grands échassiers n’arrivent à se rendre à l’eau à cause des racines des mangroves. Il y a quand même quelques oiseaux mais rien à comparer aux Everglades. C’est chaud dans les mangroves. Le canal n’est pas large mais bucolique.

Le State Park est bien mais les brûlots sont très présents au coucher du soleil. Assez occupé comme tous les state park mais il y a des sites de libres (annulation). On se déplace aujourd’hui vers Marco Island. île de riches avec plein de canaux pour mettre le bateau en face de la maison. Nous c’est plutôt vers Starbuck qu’on se dirige pour compléter notre réservation du 28 février au 7 mars. C’est comme ça qu’on fonctionne. Au fur et à mesure on essaie de trouver des camping une ou deux semaines à l’avance. J’avoue que ça été compliqué cette fois. L’An dernier on était passé en mai et c’était plus facile. Mais là il faut avoir un peu d’imagination et forcer la note deux semaines à l’avance. Au retour au camping en après midi il faisait chaud alors on s’est dirigé en vélo vers la piste cyclable du camping. Nicole a capoté. Une piste en gazon ou dans la boue avec une faune (potentielle) tout autour. La jungle c’est assez spécial. J’ai sifflé un bon coup tout le long du parcours. Revenus vivants au camping on va essayer le canot demain.
