Miss the Boat
Dear Nukhusi Fel of the Buffalo Tribe,
I, Signe of House Ymir and Academician of Galtea Polydisciplinary Institute, am applying for your Studium scholarship under the Homestead Program. I formerly led the 7th Umbral Calamity Anthropological Research Project alongside my academic peer, Mynatrach Aistrachwyn, who is also applying for this position.
I am an expert in anthropology, history, economics, aetherology, aetherological history, social sciences, cultural research, and traditional dance. I am also fluent in Dalmascan, Garlean and Eorzean common with intermediate fluency in Hingan and Doman. My anthropological project, A Rehabilitative Structure for Military Peace between the Alliance and Eorzean Tribes, exhibits my holistic understanding of the intersections between anthropology and history, history and economics, economics and anthropology, so on and so forth.
Following the creation of the Grand Company of Eorzea, I aim to use my time at the Studium to conduct further research into historical examples of political, economic and social peace treaties to enrich my bibliography. This project will become a paper proposed directly to the Saint Wargbhar Foundation, an organisation of political scientists in Eorzea, to be eventually escalated to the Grand Company proper. In exchange, I will support your research causes with my expertise in academic research, conduction of interview, minuting, bookkeeping, accounting, shoeshining, ironing, library organisation, desk organisation, interior design, and Far Eastern cuisine.
There are no candidates more suitable than myself and my research partner.
Sincerely yours,
Signe of House Ymir Academician of Galtea Polydisciplinary Institute Project Lead of the 7th Umbral Calamity Anthropological Research Project Author of A Rehabilitative Structure for Military Peace between the Alliance and Eorzean Tribes
—
Dear Sing of Ymir,
I am afraid Lady Fel could not accept your application at this time.
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide any specific feedback, only that there were other candidates whom she felt would benefit more from her academic specialties and who were closer aligned with her chosen fields.
Sincerely,
Paudene Sauvuet Secretary to Lady I’nukhusi Fel
—
“‘Aligned closer with her chosen fields’?” asks Signe in disbelief, tossing the letter over her shoulder. “How? I had listed so many of them.”

🔥 religious studies
I'm honestly so tired of so much religious studies stuff bc while people who are conversant in theory seem to know that religion as a category doesn't exist, so many RELS scholars just seem to refuse to expand the scope of what they're looking at — and I say that with the understanding that compared to the other fields i'm in RELS is the Most cross/inter/polydisciplinary group
but it's just so frustrating how terrified so many scholars are to investigate frex, economics and materialism; or they try to keep their analysis "apolitical" as if religion and politics aren't basically the same organism. and then there's the end where esp in the biblical side of things you have fucking confessional scholarship getting published in seemingly academic places and neither the writer or publisher even seems to realize it

Partial Purification and Antimycobacterial Screening of the Ethyl Acetate Extract of Alcaligenes faecalis BW1 | Chapter 10 | Recent Advances in Biological Research Vol. 3
Aims: The focus of this study was to evaluate the antimycobacterial activity of Alcaligenes faecalis BW1 extract and to purify it partially.
Study Design: Partial purification of A. faecalis BW1 extract was performed by using thin layer chromatography and active substances responsible for the biological activity were localized.
Place and Duration of Study: The study was carried out at laboratory of Microbial Biotechnology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences and Technical, University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, BP 2202, Road of Immouzer, Fez, Morocco, during the period from January 2011 to July 2011.
Methodology: Crude extract of A. faecalis BW1 was obtained by using ethyl acetate as an organic solvent and its antimycobacterial effect was investigated by agar discs diffusion method. The extract was then fractionated by thin layer chromatography and the bioactivity was assessed with a bioautography technique followed by spots elution tests.
Results: The results showed that A. faecalis BW1 produced compounds with antimycobacterial activity. All the detected spots by thin layer chromatography inhibited the growth of M. smegamtis.
Conclusion: Various metabolites of A. faecalis BW1 are responsible for the sought effect or they could act synergistically to inhibit mycobacterial growth. These compounds could be used after their total purification in further work against mycobacterial infections.

Guiding Light
A Rehabilitative Structure for Military Peace between the Alliance and Eorzean Tribes Signe Ymir, Academician of Galtea Polydisciplinary Institute
The ambient aether of the continent of Aldendard, plagued in its depletion following the 7th Umbral Calamity, has regained equilibrium in the twelvemoons that have passed. What threatens this delicate balance is the summoning of primal entities, often at the hands of the colloquially known ‘beast tribes’ (henceforward referred to as “Eorzean Tribes”). The desire to preserve the vulnerable state of environmental aetherflow juxtaposed to the ease of the Eorzean Tribes’ territorial access to aetherial sources (ie. aether crystals) and participants in the summoning ritual have created a cycle. This cycle represents epochs of conflict between the Eorzean Grand Companies and the Eorzean Tribes of the continent, the lack of resolution to which serves as core evidence against the effectiveness of these military operations.
Previous devastations upon the balance of ambient aether were brought about by similar acts of environmental terrorism. The War of the Magi, resulting in the 6th Umbral Calamity, encouraged the use of aetherically harmful, extremist techniques in defense of the protected territory of Amdapor, Nym and Mhach respectively. It is in this example that we may connect aetherically terrorist acts to desperation in defense of oneself, and this same ideology runs parallel in the example of the Eorzean Tribes. Where retribution for environmentally criminal acts is the default paradigm to which the Grand Companies have molded their structure of justice, this study would argue that the rehabilitation of the Eorzean Tribes from a history of starwide oppression will not only alleviate the frequency of primal summonings, but also conflict between the Grand Companies and Eorzean Tribes as a whole.
Through the methodology of—
“You hate this.”
“Why do you think so?”
“It’d normally take you five minutes to write something like this up and send it off to Twelve know where. We’ve been in the abstract for bells, sweetheart.”
“I am considerably surprised you know what an abstract is.”
“Awww, fuck you too. Let’s get back to your training, yeah? Get some a’ that blood rushing. Then we can throw this shite in the bin and start fresh.”
“There is no time to waste on that now. I wish for this abstract to at least be done before I take a break. Might I remind you that the Forum likely receives dozens of research proposals in a day, at the very least? There—”
“Signe.”
“—is a large chance that my subject of research will be pre-empted by sennights if I do not submit it as soon as possible. It is paramount that I make ample progress on this so that it may be revised post-haste—“
“Signe.”
“What, Brand? What?”
“D’you seriously think that these pompous Sharlayan fucks are going to accept you?”
“I am aware of the warnings Sofnir has given providing this research subject. If it does result in being too tame for the taste of the Forum, then I can simply pivot the existing research into one of the other paradigms he suggested—“
“No, not the study. D’you think they’re going to accept you?”
“You doubt me? I was one of the most skilled polymaths of my institute. This is not my first study.”
“’Course not. But there’s a difference between you and them. A difference between you and that Sofnir fellow. A difference I’m not sure you’re getting into your head because it’s absolutely packed with this waffling, mind.”
“And how would you know that we are so different?”
“Because I used to work for those pricks.”
“You were not one of them.”
“And that was exactly the problem, sweetheart. Sure, they clothed me and fed me, provided me refuge from the bloody Empire, but all in all I was their oafish meat shield from the middle of nowhere. Gyr Abanians weren’t built for understanding these structures, they’d think. I’d know it in how they’d never tell me what the missions were for, only where we were going and how many weapons I ought to bring. I reckon you’re not one of them either.”
“Preposterous.”
“The difference between you and Sharlayans is that you care, Signe. This study? It pretends to care, surely. But it presents an obvious solution that no one’s taken for a fucking reason. It lacks depth, and on that merit, lacks any means to be seen to any sort a’ fruition. People will read this, feel they’ve done enough by reading it, shed their crocodile tears, put it in their library, and let it be for another twelve epochs.”
‘And I can sense that you know that. Your heart isn’t into it, not like it was your old flame of a project. You’re writing this to appease a body of people you know aren’t like you. A body of people that’d rather sit and take notes and observe than care. A body that’s just like that Sofnir.”
“What is your issue with Sofnir? He has been of a great help to me for someone who supposedly does not care, as you would so impulsively put it.”
“I don’t like the places he’s taking you, a place where the world is a picture you hang on your bedroom wall. You are so much fucking more than this empty, lip service study, Signe. You are so much fucking more than Sharlayan. There’s still so damn much to be done to the Empire, and you’re throwing it all away—“
“So this is about the old plan, then? To enact vengeance upon the Empire? The Empire is gone, Brand. That is not a creed worth living for anymore. I need new purpose, and you and I both know that. Where is a better place to seek it?”
“So’s this your purpose now? Writing empty-headed studies to support going on a lifelong vacation with your girlfriend? Is that all you think you’re really destined for, Signe? To be a piece of furniture next to a garden water feature, spending your days reading and not doing?”
“Go away. I need to focus.”
“Hah! I’m sorry, I ain’t going anywhere. You’re stuck with me whether you like it or not. This blade — this fucking, whatever you’d call it, soul cage — is a prison for two and we’re inmates, now. Do you regret pulling me out of my own corpse?”
“… No. I just want to focus right now—”
“Then listen to what I have to say. Think twice about that Sofnir fella has to say, and think twice about Sharlayan as a whole. I don’t like the stench of it.”
“Fine. I will consider your words, though I believe you are just jealous that he dresses better than you.”
“Find me something better dressed than an obsidian greatsword. I’ll wait.”

Is there a label with the guts to get behind this? #musicindustryisatrap. Pastel Fractal would never record and distribute what can only be experienced live such as this CAREoke that was captured by the slurring Conch Shell. #devilonmyshoulder Conch has made this available only on one Solar-Powered MP4/Game Player #collectorsdream, but would probably distribute far and wide if Conch had a little shove from an industry player. #sellthefarm This recording contains mission-statement data of Chicagoans that was collected by the interactive research installations of ȺƉǤ. #createnewsystems With the iWonder, Pastel Fractal nests together four compositions with lyrics that correspond to collected data responses to four mission-statement-related prompts: 1) STATE a mission of your as a Chicagoan. 2) PROMOTE a mission of yours as a Chicagoan. 3) RAGE on an impediment of yours as a Chicagoan. 4) SING of your tools and process. Tolerance Tests of Alcaligenes faecalis BW1 Extract | Chapter 07 | Recent Advances in Biological Research Vol. 3
Aims: To highlight whether metabolites of Alcaligenes faecalis BW1 extract can be administered orally for their possible antimycobacterial effects.
Study Design: Study of the influence of certain parameters on the extract of Alcaligenes faecalis by using either discs or well diffusion methods against M. smegmatis.
Place and Duration of Study: Laboratory of Microbial Biotechnology, Department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences and Technical, University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, BP 2202, Road of Immouzer, Fez, Morocco From April to August, 2012.
Methodology: The impact of acidic pH of gastric juice, bile, hydrogen peroxide, pancreatic enzymes and lysozyme on the antimycobacterial activity of Alcaligenes faecalis BW1 extract was evaluated by agar diffusion method. Detection whether or not antibacterial metabolites having a synergistic effect with rifampicin against M. smegmatis was also explored.
Results: Antibacterial metabolites of Alcaligenes faecalis BW1 extract resist to the action of gastric pH, gallbladder bile and hydrogen peroxide. In addition, they are not affected by pancreatic enzymes and lysozyme. Moreover, they have a synergistic effect with rifampicin against M. smegmatis.
Conclusion: Anti-mycobacterial metabolites of Alcaligenes faecalis BW1 extract are compatible with rifampicin and could be administered orally as antitubercular agents after their purification, identification in further work.

Bacillus spp with an Antibacterial Activity | Chapter 13 | Recent Advances in Biological Research Vol. 2
Bacterial resistance to antibiotics poses a serious challenge to chemotherapy. Indeed, in recent decades, the risk of contracting infectious diseases has increased significantly due to the emergence and spread of multi-drug-resistant bacteria. The whole world is thus confronted with this situation which motivated scientists to find out new active molecules with an antibacterial effect. Therefore, the present investigation aims to isolate and identify microorganisms secreting substances with an antibacterial activity and to partially characterize their extracts. Thus, six bacteria were isolated from soil and water of different biotopes of Fez Morocco having an antibacterial effect against M. smegmatis, M. aurum, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Based on biochemical characterization and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, it was revealed that the isolates belong to the genus Bacillus. The antibacterial activity of three of them was fully affected by proteases (pepsin and proteinase K) and heat treatment at 80ºC and 100ºC but it was stable at 4ºC for a month and 37ºC during 3h. The lost of the activity suggests a proteinaceous nature of the bio-active compounds, which might be useful in the development of antibacterial agents after their total purification in further work against bacterial infections.
