Hey! I’m about to start Vying For Versailles, and I was wondering if you could tell me a little about how the open relationships work! I’m polyamorous irl and really delighted by the possibility of doing it in the books, but I can’t seem to sort out from anything I’ve seen how it works/if your relationships can still be serious/if it affects any endgame stuff. Is there any way you can point me in the right direction? I’d like to know before I get too far and get my hopes up for polyam rep pfft

Hi I'm not entirely sure how exactly the relationship dynamics will work out in the end especially since the branches are pretty different from each other. Plus RC once had a poly branch just for it to suddenly turn monogamous at the end of an older book. So for your own Sake I would not Set up my hopes too much on getting an actual poly relationship but the story might surprise us.

There are 4 possible end game LIs and I don't think you can romance both at the same time since the romantic relationship in this book is very fast paced. I think Alexander is also a possible LIs who you can romance toward the end of season 1 and might be an endgame. But his romance route seems to be more slow burn. However there are multiple characters you can have flings with throughout the Story.

Towards the end of season 1 your main LI will confess their love to you and you get the option to be in a closed relationship, be in a open relationship or break up with them. So far the open relationship is still a serious relationship however I havent had any options yet to be flirty with the other characters or at least with characters I was interested in. But so far it seems that keeping the relationship open doesn't negatively Affect your relationship with your chosen main LI.

I think if you want a poly relationship in the story your best shot is to romance prince Philippe since he is already in a sort of open relationship at the start of the story. As far as Im aware Philippe's boyfriend is also a fling option for your character so there might be a possibility that these three characters can become comitted to each other. However Im not romancing him and I rarely see these two characters so I really can't confirm anything.

So in short there are a lot of characters and different routes that can all play out differently and ig we will have to see how these relationships all turn out ^^'

I do honestly believe Yara was meant to be a LI for somebody before jünglinge was out of the show. It just makes sense to me. In my opinion, watching the clues the show gave us, I think jünglinge's plan was either a) give a season to each girl of the cash queens and Isi was a character that would become important for Ava's bullying plot or b) Nora/Fatou/Ava and then Isi (after a proper redemption arc. So to me Yara was the LI for either Ava, Mailin or Isi but got thrown out by the new team.

i agree with all of this!!! i’ve always thought it’d be 3/4 cashqueens + isi too; i feel like the new gen mains were going to address things the original gen had been criticised for not handling well or even at all (matteo’s mental illness with nora; mia’s bisexuality & the lack of wlwoc with kieutou; trans narratives explored through a cis main’s LI > a trans character as the main) and that ava wasn’t intended as a sam/chris copy (and she def isn’t anyways) but like…sam was who the fandom wanted s5’s main to be, she was the girl squad member with the least amount of narrative focus etc, so ava as a main would put a black girl at the centre again. i feel like mailin would’ve had an ace coming out arc (that fan survey that mentioned asexuality), but not as a main; i can see it happening maybe in the bg of isi’s season? mailin going to that queer youth group with her? both of them learning to be better people & friends?? idk idk but huge agree on everything, especially yara!!

Lmao update I wasn’t kicked out. But I do have a wonderful boyfriend now. And we are in a polyam relationship, which is something we did the first time we dated. My sibling approves and actually wanted us to get back together. We dated late 2020, but I was going through a lot then and he didn’t know how to help me and we distanced from each other and eventually broke up due to us having problems that were out of our control.
