DOCTOR WHO TOP 10 - 6th Doctor
Baker 2: Stronger, Harder, Bakerer
10. The Shape Shifter
While maybe not the greatest story ever, it introduces Frobisher, the best Doctor Who companion ever. There, I rest my case. Frobisher gang rise up!
9. The Hoxteth Time Capsule
Mysterious, feel-good, and free on the Big Finish website. Also featuring some really cool aliens.
8. Interstitial Insecurity
Colin Baker writes a prequel to Terror of the Vervoids. It's excellent.
7. The Ghost in the Machine
Sixie has just a cameo in this one, but I still had to mention it. It's this beautiful ballad about what it mean to be a Cyberman and I adore it. Dave Rudden is just the best, go read Twelve Angels Weeping.
6. Blood on Santa's Claw and Other Stories
Yes, yes, another Big Finish Main Range anthology release with four stories that I crammed into a single spot on my top 10... But all the stories in this one are really great. Trust me, give this one a listen and go in as blind as possible. It's worth it.
5. The Maltese Penguin
"My friends call me Frobisher. My enemies call me Mr. Frobisher. And the junk mail department of the Galactic Readers' Digest call me Mrs. F R Rubbisher — but that's neither here nor there."
Man, I just really want Big Finish to do another Frobisher story.
4. Davros
The Doctor and Davros as co-workers. Truly the greatest workplace sitcom of our time.
3. Vengeance on Varos
Oh, yeah, the sixth Doctor also had some TV stories! Most of them aren't great, but fortunately, there is the expanded universe!
Also, one of them actually is great! Vengeance on Varos - a dark, twisted, angry, political, and bizarre bit of 80s Who. It's the only television story with Sixie that I think absolutely slaps. Which is a shame. They should have done more stuff like this, it's excellent.
2. Voyager + Poly the Glot + Once Upon a Time Lord
Cheating again, big time with this one. But they are a trilogy of stories connected by the same antagonist, a rogue Time Lord named Astrolabus. And I love these comics to bits, so there you go. You shoul read the Voyager trilogy if you haven't done so yet. These three stories are just so creative, filled with so much creativity and great imagery.
1. The Holy Terror
Were you expecting anything else? It's funny, but also haunting. It's deeply rich and textured, but also a farce. It's an exploration of religion and how it blinds people. It also features a shape-shifting penguin detective. This one has it all. Rob Shearman tries his first Doctor Who radio play and just fucking nails it.

My determination is to go to Japan this fall but in an idea world I also come back and almost immediately go on medical leave for a hysterectomy, force my mum to partially run my business, and start Japanese classes to pursue a day job as a translator.
Mania at a dead end job has made me wish to simply return to my original purpose in college and figure out what I was gonna do with becoming a poly glot.

Actually, this makes me think. Eliot speaks at least a little bit of a lot of languages.
English
Hebrew
Arabic
German
Russian
Japanese
Spanish
Klingon
Got this list from the wiki but I added a few I remember as well. There's also apparently a scene of him understanding Farsi but not speaking it.
Man's poly in both glot and amorous contexts.

Sooo..... today we talked about what it’s like to be 1/2 Japanese-Turkish.
I'm a first-year med student in Turkey. I'm taking a break from med school because of some personal and private reasons. I can not explain it yet but I will hopefully in the future. If you are interested in which ethnicity do I have, I'm mixed. (Japanese-Turkish) I was born in Japan but I grew up in Turkey. (But I visit Japan every single year) Both of these languages are my mother language. I’m polyglot and I can speak 4 languages fluently which are Japanese, Turkish, German, and English. If you don’t think that I’m a polyglot check Cambridge or Oxford Dictionary. Poly means multiple and glot mean tongue so yes I am :) I will be planning to upload lots of productivity-related videos, so stay tuned if you like those types of videos.

Oh! I thought of this stuff as soon as I hit 'ask' on the previous one lol so as is the case with bilinguals or polyglots in this case Lena's probably constantly dealing with "bye lingual" lol where she's thinking in one language and a different one comes out or when they're talking in their own similar circles or to each other at home sentences are definitely comprised of words from each different language it's all such a mess and at some point it feels like she has no mastery over any of her languages
I was watching the new season of The Big Day on Netflix and for some of the dialogue they have to subtitle it because the speakers seamlessly mixed English with other languages and I absolutely loved it, so I wholeheartedly support this headcanon. Can we also headcanon that one Lena-ism is when she goes "how you say X" because she can think of the thing in three different languages except the one she's looking for? And poly-glot Kara is the only one who can fill in the blank for her with any kind of reliability?

Harry finds out that he's not JUST a Wizard, in fact he's more than he dreamed he could be and rather poly-glot in the DNA department. This all leads to a totally new direction in his life, which goes a way he just didn't expect. Though, it's a hell of a lot more fun for him personally.

Language Acquisition (1 of 2)
Want to learn a language but you suck at memorizing vocabularies? Want to learn a language but you’re having a hard time understanding the language’s grammar structures?
Fear not! For there is an alternative way to familiarize yourself with your target language - the way babies use to have a comprehensive understanding on their mother tongue! Behold, language acquisition!
Below (keep reading) are the tips given by polyglots for familiarizing oneself with a particular language
TL;DR: Pay close attention and absorb as much as you can in your target language. What you’re trying to do is basically subconsciously learning a language through your surroundings. This can be done through reading kids’ storybooks, listening to nursery rhymes, or even through watching TV shows.
Language acquisition is basically subconsciously picking up a language and it is what babies use to pick up their native tongue.
Comprehensible input
Input from your surroundings causes acquisition. Unlike learning, where you memorize vocabularies, grammar rules, etc., acquisition is a subconscious and implicit way to learn a language.
Don’t study grammar, acquire it
Wait until you're fluent (or semi), that is when you can start learning grammar. You may also browse through grammar bit by bit, but you must not focus on it. There is a concept called “Monitor hypothesis” wherein studying grammar even makes it harder for the learner to speak the language as grammar rules come in the way. Hence, majority of your focus should be on comprehensible input - hear/read, not write or memorize. Basically, just absorb your target language as much as possible.
Natural approach by Dr. Krashen and Terrell
In this learning approach, students don't get grammar instructions - grammar is acquired naturally. Students are also not corrected. Language throughout the lessons is done in target language.
TPRS - Teaching proficiency through reading and storytelling
The full form of the abbreviation basically explains everything. Or, in short, students acquire language through lots of stories accompanied with reading.
Proof that natural approach works
Decide which language you want to acquire
1970 experiment: half of the courses used traditional, while other half used natural approach. Natural approach students remembered more words, spoke more words, and scored higher.
Dr. Mason: teaches English in Japan using story listening. Similar experiment from above was conducted and after 5 weeks, 36% was remembered from traditional approach, 75% was remembered from comprehensible input.
The State Department of US has a list of languages and their corresponding difficulty levels for native English speakers, and the estimate number of hours one has to spend acquiring the language. (Level 5 Japanese 2200, level 4 tagalog 1100hrs)
Minimal reading or writing
While these may be great ways to polish your knowledge, the problem is, less time goes to comprehensible input. (Babies don't do reading or writing for a long time.)
Find a language parent (or an alternative)
Ask help from people around you who speak your target language. If none available, trades- talk to someone who wants to learn your native language. Other apps mentioned are: Crauglist, Tandem, Hellotalk.
The magic / most important part
Need magazines and children's story books. The important thing is pictures. Talk about those to your language partner. Storytelling is a very important part. Listening to your partner talk about the stories and pictures are fine. Acquisition is more on input rather than output. Throughout whole conversation, try staying in target language.
TPR - Total physical response
From its name, TPR is acquiring language through movement.
Read, read, read
Self-explanatory. It puts the puzzle pieces together. (Students who read 100 to 150 pages per week had the best results)
i+1
Acquire knowledge slightly higher than your current level; you won’t acquire fluency by listening to fluent audios if you’re at a beginner level.
No corrections
Having corrections are like having formal instructions, very technical; some improvements may be made albeit the minimal retainment.
Rosetta stone and apps
Use your phone
Rosetta stone: super boring, missing conversations and interactions, but better than nothing (it doesn’t come close to comprehensive inputs)
Duolingo: problem is memorization
Listen to recording of your sessions (especially children stories)
Study abroad (if you can)!
Meet people, build relationships, trade languages.
Disclaimer: The tips above are not mine, I only summarized the information (and included information I deem most important, to keep the post concise but informative) from Poly-glot-a-lot’s video. If you want a more detailed and comprehensive understanding about this topic, you may watch their full video. I also advice you to read other related videos and articles about each theory/concept mentioned in this video.
Side note: I think that if you want to do language acquisition, you don’t have to necessarily and strictly follow all the tips mentioned above, that might only result in discouragement in your part. (reminder: I am a common man in terms of language acquisition and I am only a learner. Prior to watching this video, I have not yet tried learning a language myself through acquisition)
Other related resources I find interesting: TED talk | Video with examples for comprehensive input | Stages of language acquisition | another video ft Jeff Brown | 5 stages of second language acquisition

“Monsters still under my bed, that I could never fight off.”
Эта строчка из песни “hope is a dangerous things for a woman like me to have”, песня сама по себе очень красивая и цепляющая за душу.
@little-poly-glot @awfully-charming-baby @lilithrouth @liyoonwel и любому желающему ❤︎
