this snippet is from the oneshot i wrote for the polin x care for gaza raffle:

“It smells delicious,” she said, beaming at him. The dish was still hot, steam piping off it, but the smell of the steak was mouth-watering, and the accompanying sides of leafy green salad and potato au gratin made for a heavenly meal. She couldn’t resist tucking into her meal. “This looks amazing, Colin, thank you so much.”

He lit up at her compliment, beaming back at her. “You’re welcome, Pen.”

Dinner continued in pretty much the same fashion. She made him laugh with her sharp tongue and witty banter while he charmed her with his attentiveness and a few funny anecdotes from his travels. It was easy to talk to Colin - it’s what she loved most about him. She could fully be herself in a way she couldn’t with anyone else, even Eloise.

The time came for washing up. They were both in the kitchen, Colin washing the dishes while Pen dried and put them away. She was momentarily distracted by the veins on his arms - he’d removed his jacket in the middle of the dinner and the sleeves of his shirt were pulled to his elbow - and she felt a deep want in her lower belly. She bit her lip and forced herself to turn away as she waited to dry the dishes.

They worked in comfortable silence. Pen lost herself in her thoughts as the methodical movements became second nature. Her mind drifted to work as she thought about how she would have to make time to work on her novel soon. 

Before she knew it, she was cleaning the last of the glasses. She reached up on her tiptoes to put it away, but since Colin moved in, he’d annoyingly shifted all their glasses to an overhead shelf. According to him, bending over every time he needed a glass of water was ’bad for his back’.

She didn’t notice the large shadow looming over her until he was pressed right behind her. His fingers slipped up her wrist and gently took the glass from her grip, easily placing it on the correct shelf. She turned in surprise only to find him looking down at her, his gaze penetrating, and her breath caught at his proximity.

“Thanks,” she said weakly, licking her suddenly dry lips. “W-we should probably get a step stool or something,” she attempted to joke, but there was no laughter in his expression as he stared at her.

She felt his hand grip her waist as the other caged her into the counter. She swallowed, her eyelashes fluttering at him, and he gave her such a beautiful, sincere smile that she felt her knees weaken.

“I don’t mind reaching for high shelves for you,” he told her softly, his voice quiet as though he was giving her an important secret. His eyes fluttered closed as he dropped his forehead onto hers. He whispered breathily, “I hope you liked my present.”

And then he kissed her.

Don't take this as criticism or support of Trump, cos it's not, I'm also just trying to think out loud because I take support of Israel very seriously, and strategically.

Trump's rhetoric being self serving, the inauguration being a spectacle, the world not caring about the hostages, I'm not gonna argue with that though I do think there's some nuance in there.

As for the policy against Hamas- I think he is 100% correct to threaten them. And I think he is doing that better than Biden.

Wars are lost on morale as much as tactical failures. It's not because Hamas is a logical agent, or because right-wing Israelis support Trump over Biden, or whatever. It's because Hamas is right now a sinking ship, and rats are first to jump out of a sinking ship.

Hezbollah's solidarity clearly has limits, as has just been demonstrated. Iran's allies and enablers patience also has limits to how much they won't demand results. I'm going to be blunt here, these people are operating on these kinds of logics in some Qatari office, "ah, yes, after the X death toll, Y allies of Israel will surely stop support! just push them a little more! we just need a little more to push the genocide narrative" "you told me that last week"

These people actually care nothing about human lives. Qatar and Turkey are what is key here. Hamas is heavily dependent on them to keep morale and their own fighters' faith in the cause. Indoctrination is strong, but you can't keep a lie forever, and there comes a point in which every organization has to make concessions. Sinwar's death was one of the most timely things that have happened.

Trump isn't a good person and has illiberal elements but he's political animal, and he's 100% right this is the time to be hard on Hamas as the best course of action for the hostage situation. Hamas needs to be more desperate for making a deal than Israel is. Trump is the opposite of the increasingly weak EU support for Israel and its two-faced hipocrisy of also supporting UNRWA.

The perception of US-Israel disunity, the perception of wiggle room for what Hamas has been doing up to now, has not been good for the hostage situation at all, and I mean at all, I mean the Hersh-Polin situation, the six senselessly evil murders.

In another time, under other leaders that would have been itself casus belli, but the decrease of American power also means this happens. And by the way, I entirely supported Netanyahu's decision not to cave in to the demand of the Philadelphi corridor. If he had caved into that, I don't think any hostage would remain in Gaza today. He gets a lot of criticism I don't see the same people giving him credit where it's due.

i’m seeing a lot of people on instagram and irl praising president elect trumps most recent statement regarding the hostage crisis and middle east strife.

they say this should have been americas stance from october 8th 2023 onward. while i agree the focus on the hostages has waned globally and our concern should really be rescuing who we can and those responsible should be held accountable, the language of this post is rhetorically manipulative to the jewish community. he is telling a lot of us what we want to hear, we want someone to really stand up for us on the political stage (ritchie torres) and stay with their full chest that they are on our team— but this message is not doing that. this message is that of a war monger drumming up his base to create more chaos as the transition of power becomes an even larger public spectacle. i can tell because he says the world wants the hostages back. that it’s demonstrably false. for example, a staffer to the new york city mayors office was suspended without pay this week for tearing down hostage posters.

this statement from trump uses the hostages to bolster a hawkish sentiment that is growing into mainstream.

i don’t have answers or edits to his statement. it speaks for itself. i’m just very tired. tired of this rhetoric, tired of every day bringing conflicting reports of broken ceasefires and coalitions of global powers backing theocratic regimes.

the path to peace is fraught with violent traps and i see far too many of us falling into it over and over again. people i regard as brilliant are taking trumps statement as a net positive. i have a sick feeling its not.
