The Verity ran into a larger cargo ship, the Polesie, before sinking in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies (CCME).
The ship had seven crew members on board, two of whom were rescued, while one was found dead and another four were still missing, German Sea Rescue Society (DGzRS) spokesman Christian Stipeldey said.Several ships and helicopters were involved in a rescue operation into Tuesday afternoon to find the missing crew members.
Robby Renner, head of the CCME, said it was possible they were still inside the ship.
"If so, there may be a chance -- and I stress it is only a chance -- that they are trapped in the ship's hull," he said.
A diving operation was launched in the waters where the Verity sank, which are around 30 metres (98 feet) deep, Renner said.
But divers were "unable to gain any information" before the search was suspended due to strong currents, the CCME said.
Conditions were "very difficult" around the shipwreck with visibility of only one to two metres, it said.
The temperature of the water was around 12 degrees Celsius (54 Farenheit), according to Michael Ippich, a director of the DGzRS.
If the missing crew members were in the water, it would be possible for them to survive for around 20 hours depending on their physical condition and what equipment they had, he said.
"We will not stop the search and rescue operation as long as there is still a small chance of finding survivors," said Stipeldey, the DGzRS spokesman.
Two rescue cruisers, an emergency tug, a pilot boat, a police patrol boat and helicopters were also helping with the search, according to the CCME.
"The emergency services are doing everything they can to rescue the missing people," German Transport Minister Volker Wissing said in a statement.
The accident occurred about 22 kilometres (13 miles) southwest of the island of Helgoland, according to the CCME.
The Verity, owned by the British company Faversham, sails under a British flag and was on its way from Bremen to the UK town of Immingham, carrying steel according to Renner.
The ship is 91 metres long, while the Polesie is much bigger at 190 metres, according to the CCME.
The Polesie was still afloat with its 22-person crew on board, the agency said.
'Relatively challenging conditions'
The rescue operation was taking place amid "relatively challenging weather conditions", according to Stipeldey.
The CCME reported winds of six on the Beaufort scale, corresponding to speeds of around 40 to 50 km/h (25-30 mph), and waves reaching as high as three metres.
Environmental damage from the accident could not be ruled out, "be it from the fuel or the cargo", Renner said.
The Polesie, owned by the Polish shipping company Polsteam, sails under a Bahamas flag and was travelling from Hamburg to La Coruna in Spain.
Krzysztof Gogol, a spokesman for Polsteam, said the 22 crew members were uninjured and in "good physical condition".
Shortly after the collision, the Polesie began participating in the rescue operation, and "took on board one of the crew members of the Verity ship, a Filipino sailor", Gogol said.
A P&O cruise ship that was in the area, the Iona, was also involved in the rescue operation.
Ippich, of the DGzRS, said both rescued crew members had been taken to hospital.
Collisions were the second-biggest cause of incidents involving cargo ships on the world's oceans in 2022, according to insurer Allianz.
However, collisions rarely result in the loss of a boat. Around 38 cargo ships were critically damaged last year, of which only four were due to collisions.

My next post in support of Ukraine is:
Next site, on this 38th anniversary of the Chornobyl Nuclear Disaster, we're visiting the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone (Зона відчуження Чорнобильської АЕС). The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant Zone of Alienation. It was first established by the soviet armed forces at an area of 30 km (19 miles) radius around the power plant. That has since been extended to an area of 2,600 km (1,000 square miles) around the power plant. There is also an area in neighboring Belarus known as the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve, which was created to enclose the area most affected by the disaster in Belarus. The area of Ukraine, where the disaster happened, was a largely rural area with woodlands and marshlands and was home to about 120,000 people, many of whom lived in the cities of Chornobyl and Pripyat. There were also about 187 smaller communities in the area. All of the communities are still listed on maps, but they are listed as uninhabited. While the area is still one of the most radioactively contaminated places on earth, the natural plants and wildlife of Ukraine have returned, and the area now has "some of the highest biodiversity and thickest forests in all of Ukraine. This is due to the lack of human activity in the Exclusion Zone and is despite the radiation." The soviet authorities at first tried to cover up the disaster. The 30,000 residents of Pripyat weren't evacuated until the day after the disaster. And, by April 29, radiation levels in Sweden were starting to climb to dangerous levels. The authorities also insisted that the May Day Parade in Kyiv still be held so things would appear to be normal, even though radiation levels in Kyiv were extremely high by that time. The Chornobyl Disaster and how the soviet union dealt with it was one of the issues that helped lead to the collapse of the soviet union in 1991.

Can you make a valar version of yourself? What you would look like as vala.
Uhh what a task you gave me 🤕
I've been racking my brain for a long time, I just couldn't make up my mind. It's okay to just figure out what kind of Valar (Valie) I would be, but we also need to make sure that I fit well and logically into Tolkien's world. And this is a task with an asterisk.*
There will be a lot of text, so go make yourself some tea or coffee with cookies right now...☕️
🔺At first, I wanted to be a Valie that protects children. I almost made up a story about how I would (naturally in the image of valie) She saved the twins Elured and Elurin.('But Maedhros never found them!') Would shelter them, teach them healing magic, and grant them the ability to transform into animals and birds. Therefore, the first version of the art depicts two storks – these are Elured and Elurin. As a result, they would become my assistants, flying over the village, making sure that everything was fine.
Why storks, just because I really like these birds (even if it looks like an allusion to my culture and Belarusian nationality, but this is purely a coincidence)
Based on this image of Valie, my close communication with other Valar would be like this:
▪️- I would communicate well with the Lord of Arda, Manwё Sulimo, and his wife, Varda Elentari, since with the help of their abilities I could also see the world and observe what was happening (naturally, if the Lord of Manwё allowed me to do so)
▪️- I would also communicate with Irmo Lorien and his wife Este, as children often have nightmares and are very afraid of doctors. Extra support wouldn't hurt.
▪️- And of course, Nienna — compassion for the prematurely departed and for those who still have to go through difficulties.
As you can see, it turned out to be some kind of nonsense. It also seemed to me that I had gone too far with the stork theme and decided to change the art and history.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
🔺In the second option, I decided to become Valie muse, inspiration. My role here is already quite modest. I am a simple valie, who inspires the peoples of Middle-earth - to feats, in art, in invention, and the like.
Connections with other Valar :
▪️- Irmo — as inspiration can come in a dream (remember Mendeleev)
▪️- Varda and Yavanna — because admiring the stars and nature, you get inspired to create beautiful paintings, romantic stories, songs and poems
▪️ - Ulmo — how many poems are dedicated specifically to the boundless ocean
The second option, in my opinion, is more suitable for Tolkien than the first one. But still, it's kind of raw and... naive, I think. And I didn't bother much - I only changed the background. I removed the storks and added a Telperion instead.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
Therefore, before posting these two works online, another thought suddenly occurred to me.
Once I was looking through beautiful photos of the Pinsk marshes - Polesie, Braslav lakes, Yelnya swamp and other beautiful places in my country. And it immediately dawned on me – "Exactly, swamps. So scary and dangerous – but at the same time majestic, mysterious and beautiful." And without hesitation, I began to draw new art.
🔺Valie Mirime (which means free), lord of the swamps. I chose the name for a reason, as it reflects the character of this image well.
I prefer a quiet life, away from intrigue, but when a threat looms, I don't stay away.
I communicate closely with Ulmo, and while Valinor was a part of Middle-earth, I helped the children of Eru with him, despite the ban. I could lure the orcs and other dark creatures of Morgoth into my swamps....leave them there forever (hint understood)
I gave the good travelers rich fruits and fresh water. And my mists protected their sleep and hid them from the dark eye.
Morgoth also wanted to lure me to him, but after my refusal, he poisoned my domain out of a thirst for revenge, and now almost all the swamps of Middle-earth are dangerous. I managed to preserve my swamps only in small areas near the waters and rivers of Ulmo. And after the arrival of Istari, Radagast was able to heal several more sources that were not greatly distorted.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
I think the third option is more logically suited to Tolkien's world. And while I was typing this post, it dawned on me – in the third art, everything came together hormanically, namely: let me remind you, if someone doesn't know, I'm from Belarus and my country is famous for its numerous rivers, lakes and swamps (because of this, we sometimes call our country blue-eyed). And I really love nature.
As a result, we get Valie, the "Lady of the swamps." And everything worked out well with Tolkien's world, and I was able to unobtrusively, not so obviously, add something of my own. And the name, by the way, was just perfect, I didn't even think about it. I took this name because this image is more freedom-loving and prefers solitude. But for me it already has a different meaning.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
That's what happened. I hope it was interesting to read. You can choose which image you like best. At the end, I attach a couple of beautiful photos of swamps, which inspired me.

Google translation:
Putin's historical ravings. These are Stalin's real "gifts" to Poland Vladimir Putin said a few days ago that Poland should not forget about the "gift from Stalin", which is allegedly its western lands. Even a cursory analysis of history shows that it is not a gift. However, speaking of gifts, one cannot forget about other "gifts" that Poland received from Stalin and his team. Putin's historical ravings. These are Stalin's real "gifts" to Poland
Gift one: mass terror
On the basis of a special order No. 00485 issued by the head of the NKVD, Nikolai Yezhov, on August 11, 1937, about 110,000 people were murdered. Poles living in the USSR. It was a typical act of mass genocide carried out by the Bolsheviks before Kristallnacht and the beginning of the Holocaust.
The second gift: the division of Poland
According to a secret protocol attached to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of August 23, 1939, Stalin took over 55 percent of territory of then Poland, leaving Hitler a smaller part. Two aggressors divided Poland between them - and not only. In addition to the eastern part of this country, Stalin also occupied Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Bessarabia, Hitler - Lithuania and Vilnius district.
If we turn to the national composition of the voivodeships that Stalin took, only in three out of eight units were Ukrainians and Belarusians in the majority - in Volhynia (70 percent of Ukrainians), in Stanisławów (68.8 percent of Ukrainians) and in Polesie (74.1 percent of Ukrainians) . Belarusians and Ukrainians). In other voivodships, including Vilnius, Poles constituted the majority — from 49.3 percent to 49.3 percent. in Ternopil to 72 percent. in Bialystok. Division of Poland into spheres of influence of the USSR and the Third Reich according to the secret protocol to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of August 23, 1939 (CC BY-SA 4.0) © Creative Commons Division of Poland into the spheres of influence of the USSR and the Third Reich in accordance with the secret protocol to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of August 23, 1939 (CC BY-SA 4.0)
In the provinces of Lublin and Warsaw (the eastern part), which also fell to the USSR under a secret document, the share of Poles was 85-90 percent, and the main minority were Jews. So there was no question of any "unification of Western Ukraine and Western Belarus". What happened was just a crude annexation of Polish territory.
On September 28, 1939, Ribbentrop flew to Moscow again and signed the "Treaty on Friendship and Border". Stalin gave away part of the Polish lands - the Warsaw and Lublin voivodships, but took over all of Lithuania (except for the Mariampol district) and the Vilnius district.
On October 31, Molotov said about Poland at the meeting of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR: "It was enough for a short attack, first by the German army, and then by the Red Army, to leave nothing of this ugly bastard of the Treaty of Versailles, living from the oppression of non-Polish nationalities."
Among the 35 million inhabitants of Poland (December 1938 census), Ukrainians accounted for 5 million, Belarusians 1.4 million, and Jews 3.4 million.
Gift three: repression, murder and confiscation
The Red Army took about 240,000 prisoners. Polish soldiers and officers. Many of them were released, but 25,000 were sent to road construction, and 12,000 — as free labor to the People's Commissariat of Defense Industry of the USSR. Special camps for Polish officers were set up in Starobielsk, Ostashkov and Kozielsk.
By the end of February 1940, 8,000 Jews remained in them. 376 officers and 6,000 192 policemen, border guards and equivalent military personnel. They were to be charged under Article 58-13 of the RSFSR's Criminal Code on persons who "combated the international labor movement" and sent to camps in Siberia and the Far East.
On March 5, 1940, the Politburo, following Beria's suggestion, decided to kill the prisoners of the officer camps, as well as other Poles (mainly representatives of the intelligentsia - teachers, professors, priests, engineers, factory workers, officials) who were in prisons in the occupied territories .
More than 21,000 convictions Poles were released by three: Iwan Bashtakov, Bogdan Kobułow and Wsievolod Mierkulov. Then they were personally signed by Joseph Stalin, Vyacheslav Molotov, Kliment Voroshilov, Anastas Mikoyan and approved in absentia by Mikhail Kalinin and Lazar Kaganovich.
Thousands of Ukrainians and Belarusians, especially among the Polish intelligentsia, were also interned and killed. The murders of the Western Russian intelligentsia were carried out in Kuropaty near Minsk, the murders of the Ukrainian intelligentsia in the prisons of Western Ukrainian cities.
From April 3 to May 13, all convicted military men were killed in Katyn near Smolensk and near the village of Mednoye in the Tver region. Those who died in the Kharkov prison rest in the area of the present 6th Quarter of the Kharkiv Forest Park and elsewhere.
No more than 400 officers survived. Pursuant to the top-secret NKVD order No. 001365 of October 26, 1940, the executioners and others who organized this mass murder of Polish citizens were rewarded with large sums of money "for the successful completion of special tasks".
280 thousand Poles, including family members of the murdered, were deported to Siberia and Kazakhstan. Few of them survived. Gift Four: "Western Lands"
Poland was a unique country during World War II. The Germans failed to create a collaborationist government here, as in France, or units within the Wehrmacht, as in the USSR, where a million Soviet citizens more or less voluntarily joined Hitler's military structures. Poles either endured the occupation with clenched teeth, or went to the forests and fought a fierce war with the Germans in the ranks of the Home Army.
Poland was perceived as a reliable ally by the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition. Polish divisions fought in Great Britain, Africa and Italy alongside the British and Americans, and General Sikorski's Polish government was based in London. Understandably, Poles did not want to hear that half of their country would remain under Soviet rule.
However, Stalin firmly stated that having got his hands on them under a deal with Hitler, he would never give them back. In order not to lose such a key ally as the USSR and to exclude the possibility of its behind-the-scenes negotiations with the Axis Powers, Roosevelt and Churchill secretly agreed during the Tehran Conference (November 28 - December 1, 1943) that Poland's eastern border should run approximately along the Curzon line. They also agreed to the population exchange.
As compensation for the territories lost in the east, Poland was to receive German lands along the Oder-Neisse border in the west and the southern part of East Prussia after the war. Most of these lands have not been part of the Polish state since the 11th century, i.e. for nine centuries, and were inhabited mainly by Germans.
The Yalta Conference, held February 4-11, 1945, confirmed and announced these agreements. Poland's new eastern frontier was slightly adjusted in her favour—Stalin agreed to return Bialystok and Przemyśl and their districts to the Poles, since they were west of the Curzon line. However, he retained 40 percent. former territory of the Polish state from 1939
This is the story of this "gift". The thief refused to return the stolen goods, but offered to compensate for the losses from "other sources" - not at his own expense, but at the expense of the defeated enemy. Fifth gift: rape and looting
"My hair stands on end when I hear about what the Soviets are doing to women in Silesia - mass rapes, many senseless murders, etc." — wrote the Russian Maria Vasilchikov in her "Berlin Diaries" on March 31, 1945.
A participant, though not very active, in the anti-Nazi resistance movement and an employee of the Reich Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she hastily left for the American occupation zone in Austria to avoid meeting her compatriots. She succeeded, but millions of Germans and Poles in East Prussia, Silesia, Pomerania and the General Government of Warsaw did not.
It was another of Stalin's gifts, combined with the total robbery of the entire population. Sixth gift: murders and executions
78 thousand civilians from the new territories of Poland and 94,000 of the old ones were forcibly and illegally transported to the USSR to "construction sites of communism". Many of them died. Plus, from 80,000 up to 200 thousand Poles who fought in the Home Army or sympathized with the London government were arrested and mostly killed in NKVD detention centers. Among them were e.g. officers and generals who were invited by Moscow for alleged negotiations.
Gift seven: communist dictatorship
Finally, the last "gift" for Poland was the communist Stalinist dictatorship, established in violation of all the Tehran and Yalta agreements. This gift from Stalin cost the lives and happiness of entire generations of Poles and ended only with the fall of the communist regime in 1989.
I think Putin, as a KGB officer and history buff, is well aware of all these "gifts" and seems to approve of them. In fact, now offers exactly the same "gifts" to Ukraine.
Let's hope he doesn't manage to do what Stalin got away with.

German rescuers have called off a search for four crew missing from a British ship that sank in the North Sea early on Tuesday morning.
The Verity collided with a larger ship, the Bahamian Polesie, off the German coast.
Rescue efforts were suspended on Tuesday night and would not be resumed, the rescue service said.
Two of the seven crew members on board the British-flagged ship were rescued.
The body of another member was found in the water, about 22km (13 miles) south-west of Heligoland, a German archipelago which is part of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The Verity was on its way to the UK, carrying steel from the northern German city of Bremen to Immingham in Lincolnshire, when it collided at about 05:00 (03:00 GMT) on Tuesday with the Polesie, which had left Hamburg for La Coruña in Spain.
None of the 22 crew on the Polesie was hurt. The cause of the collision is still unclear.
Two sea rescue cruisers from the German maritime search and rescue service, a German navy helicopter and a water police boat were used in the search efforts, the rescue service said.
Rescue divers had attempted to find signs of life in the wreck but said they were hampered by difficult conditions.
The German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies said conditions around the wreck were "very difficult", with visibility of only one to two metres, and that strong currents had hampered rescue efforts before they were called off.
A P&O cruise ship, the Iona, was in the area and also contributed to the search.
Passengers were informed at around 05:30 local time that the ship was helping with search efforts. The company confirmed to ITV that the Iona had fulfilled its obligations under "international and moral law".
The Iona, which left Southampton on Saturday bound for stops in Hamburg, Rotterdam and Bruges, was subsequently "released" to continue its journey.
