Printrbot and Polar3D introduce Printrbelt; a new conveyor belt 3D printer
Printrbot and Polar 3D introduce Printrbelt conveyor belt 3D printer #3dprinter #3DPrinting #Conveyorbelt3Dprinter
Printrbot and Polar3D develop a new conveyor belt 3D printer While it isn’t a new concept, the conveyor belt 3D printer idea is gaining more and more popularity this year. Prove of this ‘trend’ popping up is the recent launching of the Printrbelt 3D printer, which just debuted last week after its successful development by Printrbot and Polar 3D. “3D Printing: It can change the whole paradigm of how our children will see innovation and manufacturing in America” – Bre Pettis, MakerBot CEO
We’ve had our MakerBot Replicator II for five years now. We received it for free thanks to a grant from MakerBot and DonorsChoose. Since then, we’ve acquired two more – a Polar3D and New Matter Modt. We use them as an integral part of the grade five and six art curriculum for three project based learning units – GameMakers, Castle for a Friend, and Imaginary City. We use the 3D printers to make game pieces, castles with classic and empathic architectural elements, and city buildings and bridges.

As I often say to my students, 3D printers are like desktop inkjet printers in that they do what they are intended to with little fanfare. The magic is in the design – 3D modeling. We use the Morphi Edu app for designing models in my classes. We are a 1:1 school with iPads and the app works quite well on them. We have used the free online version of Tinkered as well, but I prefer Morphi Edu app because WiFi is not needed until it’s time to share the file.
To introduce 3D modeling I show the kids the basic tools and forms in the app, the adjustment sliders for scale, rotation, aspect, etc, and the drawing tool, one of the most indispensable tools in Morphi. Every student is asked to create a simple model on the theme of snow or winter (themes help in middle school). And although the directive is clearly stated as snow and winter,  I am always surprised to see the large amount of holiday creations specific to Christmas. Here are some of this year’s models:

IFTTT update: Assistants, magazines, DIY tools, & more — new on IFTTT
June was a very busy month at IFTTT HQ: we launched over thirty services on the same day with our Data Access Project; championed four non-profits; brought some heavily requested services, Google Photos and Songkick, to the platform; and had our typical stream of partners launching every other day. There’s now over 520 services on IFTTT! Here’s the rundown on everything new:
Assistants and home control systems
There’s never been so many different ways to control your world. Assistants like Cogitai Continua and JiBo Beta can handle everything from social media to IoT. Meanwhile, Anymote Smart Remote, Concierge, Halo Labs’ smart fire alarm, Sowee, and Hager IoT offer new ways to monitor and customize your home life.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
Home Connect expands their suite
To help you build the home of the future, our friends at Home Connect recently integrated three new appliances: the Home Connect Fridge, Dryer, and Dishwasher.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
New angles on security and tracking
Speaking of the home, three new services specialize in ways to keep you feeling safe and secure. Easy4ip offers a camera with alarm modes, Angelcam offers cloud-storage for a wide range of camera brands, and Nice monitors and secures your garage door. Of course, security issues happen outside the home, too — MyWakes can help you track the things that matter to you, no matter where you (or they!) are.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
Lights and power monitoring
We’ve yet to see a month where a smart lighting product doesn’t launch on IFTTT. June’s new options include the WeMo Dimmer, Flux Smart Light, and MagicHue. We also added the Mirubee system, so you can make sure your new lights aren’t running up your energy bill.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
DIY systems for the electronics-inclined
Still not finding the exact automation setup you’re looking for? Time to build it yourself with Matrix-io and Seeed Wio.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
More news you can use
June saw the launch of our 30+ Data Access Project services, from the Library of Congress to Amtrak to the World Health Organization. We also welcomed Time, Sports Illustrated, InStyle, and Hacker News to the platform. Whatever you’re into — there’s an Applet for it there somewhere!
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
Live outside of the US? New options for notifications
Our phone call and SMS services have always been incredibly popular. But they weren’t the best solution for anyone living outside of the United States. Enter: VoIP Calls and ClicksendSMS.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
Continuing with the international theme, Sateraito Office, based in Japan, joined the platform. Their Applets help users send emails and messages across a wide range of office services.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
Make and store new memories
Songkick’s Applets will make sure you never miss a concert.  Pair them with Google Photos Applets to capture those memories, or use Unforgettable Me’s personal data-tracking system to log your entire day.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
...and a 3D printer
The first one on IFTTT! Polar3D’s Applets help you track your projects.
table.applets-column img { width: 100% }
That was June on IFTTT. Spoiler alert: July’s already had some pretty cool launches. Check back here next month to get all the details, and find your new favorite service.
