But I know now that even if you do win with genned Pokémon, you're really not a winner. You're just a pussy. You're just a big fat pussy, and if you gen Pokémon, the only decent thing to do is come forward and say, "Remove me from the record books, because I am a big, stinky pussy-Pokémon-genning jackass."

so i’m curious, what does everyone think of the disqualifications at worlds recently?

for those unaware, people have been getting dq’d for having genned (hacked) pokemon on their team, including people who unknowingly received them from trades

personally, for a few reasons, I think it’s bs, so here’s my ranting on the situation

1) If you had a hacked pokemon on your team that you weren’t aware of because you got it from a trade, that is in no way your fault. hacked pokemon aren’t always that simple to identify, and it’s not like they did it intentionally.

2) Some people were using genning as a means to obtain highly played pokemon that aren’t natively available in S/V, such as Landorus or Urshifu, to avoid having to buy games that they don’t have just for a single pokemon. By DQ’ing people for it and apparently discouraging trading, TPCI is essentially forcing people to pay out for games they might not even want and grind through them just to get a single Pokemon, because they allow Pokemon that aren’t in the native dex to compete in ranked formats without taking any measures to make them more accessible. Overall it just comes off as really predatory.

3) Genning can barely even be considered cheating. It offers practically no real advantage when it comes to the actual battle that teams trained by hand wouldn’t be able to pull off. The biggest help that genning gives you is just saving all the time and grinding it takes to actually train a team, which- as someone who prefers to do things that way- is not only VERY annoying but some people may not have enough spare time to invest into it. What genning DOESN’T do is undermine or remove any of the practice, training and skill it takes to get good at the game and compete in high level play. If you’re shit at the game, you’ll still be shit at the game with a hacked team. People siding with the DQ’s keep whining about how “pokemon is a skill based game” and “competing in high level play should take high level commitment”, failing to realise that the amount of training and knowledge it takes to compete at this level IS the skill and commitment, not the process of simply preparing the team to be battle ready. Genning is primarily a time saver, the game has built in measures that bar Pokemon with illegal stats or moves from being used in online play, the biggest advantage genning can give you is just convenience and less time wasted.

so basically, when you take the time to actually learn the specifics of what genning does and why people resort to it, it really isn’t that big a deal and, in my opinion, doesn’t warrant disqualification like this. It just shows that TPCI doesn’t really care about the competitive scene as much as they should.

so yeah that’s my rant on the situation, just needed to get that outta my system. if anyone actually read all of that, i’m sorry you had to endure my screams lmao, you’re cool for that though
