so I recently got back into pokemon with bdsp and decided to rewatch the anime seasons for this gen and here are some of my headcanons/thoughts about Volkner and a little bit of Flint but manly volkner.

volkner's name can be a bun on voltage because he's an electric type leader but I’ve also heard that it could mean protector of the people or something similar. The second meaning would make sense in that volkner created the solar panels and a lot of the tech that runs the town and helps its citizens. In some wikis, it’s stated that SunnyShore was gang-infested back in the day but Volkner helped lift the city out of that.

Running with that idea he stayed behind to be the gym leader and clean up his hometown while flit, went off to travel. Volkner might have developed feels of anger and resentment towards Flint. In the anime, Volkner taunts Flint by calling him " Mr elite four" and says they aren't kind anymore and Flint needs to grow up.

He's implying that Flint thinks is so much better because he is an elect four member and/or that Flint still acts like a child. This also shows that Volkner knows how to get Flint riled up and that he doesn’t care who is around when he does it. As Ash Dawn Brock and the cafe guy are around. Volkner daring Flint to hit him can be taken as Volkner trying to reach out for help but not knowing how to or his way of proving that Flint hasn’t grown up.

I also find it interesting that only a few talk about the parallels between Volkner and Cyrus. Cyrus is also from sunshine and according to some wikis, he would isolate himself from other people and preferred to work on machines. Volkner also isolates himself and prefers to work on his machines. In the games, one NPC will say the volkner has been bored and that nothing good comes from boredom. this could be referencing Cyrus as he also grew bored and unemotional and then created a terrorist organization. Cyrus would be what volkner would have become if not for Flint. In the mainline games, anime, pokemon masters, and manga flint is there to help volkner. He doesn’t like that his friend has grown distant and lost his passion for pokemon battles.

You know I understand this happening in a game where I added mods or something but uh

I opened the pokemon boxes to switch out a pokemon and Riley disappeared. He talked while invisible before fighting team galactic

And appeared on the battle screen

And I hoped that would fix it but he was still invisible after

...this game was a whole $60 and is a main series pokemon game

ill be tooootally honest here:

i wouldnt mind if they stopped making new regions and new pokemon altogether and just started fleshing out the world theyve built so far. i think for main line games if we just started having new stories in previous regions in different ways id be okay with that

im even okay with gen4 remakes looking worse than the gen3 remakes if it means a: better mainline content and b: instead of current quality remakes, just current quality stories set in those previous regions. pokemons set up a massive world and has seemed allergic to giving lore pieces bigger than mere morsels.

imagine, for example, with gen6 and how AZ almost set off that apocalypse cannon the first time? what if we had a game in kalos THEN. or a far future unova game where its cyberpunky. hell, even the Pokemon War that Lt. Surge was in. or an entire medieval game of the first heroes who worked with the swsh dogs. theres so much worldbuilding to be done and im okay if we never got a new pokemon again if it meant we got a more in depth look at the pokemon world as it is
