My husband and I have come to the conclusion that Pippin isn’t really a cat. He’s a Ditto.

He looks like Ivan, only too perfect. His paw markings are symmetrical where Ivan’s aren’t. His facial markings are symmetrical where Ivan’s are not. 

He’s mostly shaped like a cat, but there are some proportions and colors that are wrong. His eyes are too dark. His white is duller and his orange is duller than Ivan’s. His fur doesn’t change seasonally like Ivan’s does. 

He was found orphaned in the fall with no other cats nearby. 

It’s like he tried to make a copy of Ivan but didn’t quite get it right.

It also explains why Ian, who usually has excellent abilities predicting the behaviors and motivations of cats, doesn’t quite understand what Pip is doing or why. It’s because Pip isn’t really a cat. He’s just trying to blend in.

Ian just looked at me and said, “I should be a lot more afraid of a creature that imitated my previous cat and the manner in which my previous cat was adopted, worked his way into my house and has tried to eat me.” 

Conclusion: Pippin is a cute, flesh-eating Ditto.
