I haven't had much to talk about lately as far as dolls or doll repair tools go because I've been busy with other things.
My S.O. has been playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, though, and I have some thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is on sale right now for $40 on Amazon:
He's been playing on PS5. Since he's the one playing, I can't give much of an opinion on the combat system or item storage, etc.
I can say there are a ton of mini- and sub- games that he's enjoyed like a bottomless dungeon, an Animal Crossing-like island resort to take care of, baseball, card games, a Pokemon spoof, a dating game, and more.
The game references and mimics many other classic video game genres.
-
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth is the first in the Yakuza series that he's played (he didn't even know about the series; I did but only from other people), and it was also conveniently a perfect place to hop into the franchise because you get a quick rundown of the games that lead up to this point. Even having not played Like a Dragon, the first in the Yakuza series to feature Ichiban Kasuga as the lead and a whole new battle system (it's now turn-based RPG style) and most of the characters already being established, Infinite Wealth makes sure you know who everyone is and how they're tied to Kasuga and Kiryu.
The Yakuza series is well known and well loved, and despite some heavy, emotional story the series doesn't take itself too seriously.
-
LaDIW looks really great. There is some disparity in quality between cinemas, cut scenes, and game play but that's normal.
Characters have individual facial hairs. There is texture in the clothing. For the most part the movements are fluid and natural, though at times they are stiff and weird. In-game animation has gotten worse as the game has gone on but the cinemas are consistently high-quality. I wonder if they were in a crunch for some segments, or if they used a different, lower quality studio for those parts.
-
The opening chapter is tedious. Cinema after cinema, they're long, they're awkwardly written, they go on and on and on long after the points has been made much like this sentence. If you can get through that, the rest is much more enjoyable.
I have noticed the ending cinemas are similar to the beginning in that they are awkward, keep going past the point being made, etc. That is a bit frustrating.
The English voice acting is..... I wouldn't say it's great, but it's ok. Sometimes it's really obvious when one V.A. is doing multiple voices and that can disrupt immersion. Seunhee likes to hiss her S's at the end of sentences and that gets under my skin. That's just a me, thing, though.
-
The characters are dynamic, flawed, and very lovable. It's easy to feel like you're hanging out with a bunch of your friends, experiencing the same things they are, together.
There is a lot of melancholy in their individual stories. Illness, unrequited love (tons of unrequited love), taking responsibility, letting go of the things they want in order to help the people they love.
They are also mostly in their 40's which makes them a little easier for me to relate to.
I am old.
-
There is a bit of misogyny in the game.
The male characters have skin texture, scruff, wrinkles, eyebags, and flaws while the female characters are all flawless, smooth, and generally younger.
There are 3 playable women and 7 playable men.
Male characters get jobs like cowboy, chef, breakdancer, and surfer, while the female characters get jobs like maid, dominatrix, and idol singer. There is no overlap, men don't get to be maids and women don't get to be chefs, for example. The men also get a lot more jobs than the women do.
There is a lot of ~younger woman interested in oblivious older man~ going on, too.
Everyone is equally capable, though, and all of the characters are treated as equals by the other characters.
-
Without spoiling anything, some features and activities do become redundant due to how the game is set up (you'll see). Like you'll go to Location A and do something, then go to Location B and.... do it again.
-
All in all we've both really enjoyed it, and I'm dreading the game ending because we've enjoyed the experience so much.

- Character tf into a character that is rarely done or one you really like but it's a rubber version. Or even worse it's a lewd pervy version. I imagine you look for tf art into characters from children's shows and when you do it's a rubber version or a lewd version. Yeah, Noddy for one. He's a child, why do almost all the Noddy ones I see always have to be lewd and with creepy MC? He's a child character for crying out loud. Also aaaw come on, I like Pinkie Pie but why a rubber version of her?
- Any tf Ciel has done. I have nothing against Avianine but I find that her TF art is overrated and I hate the Ciel character, I HATE her anthro Pokemon tfs because a lot of them either have MC or are too overly sexually designed (it wouldn't kill her to put some clothes on those Poke-girls would it?), her inanimate tfs either make no sense or creep me out (were-pooltoys don't make any sense, pooltoys don't have teeth or anything you could get caught on which could turn you into one, how does that even work anyway? Also why did it have to be a full moon trigger when a water trigger would have made more sense? Why did it have to be a full moon? You know, you could have just made it that water is the trigger for a pooltoy transformation, you could have just made it a cursed swimming pool but nooo you had to make it a fucking full moon trigger), drone tfs that make me feel uncomfortable (yeah i'm sorry but seeing a bulge between the legs of some of the more feminine forms of drones makes me feel weirded out, I know Avianine has done Futa type tfs before, it's all in her Furaffinity account but that one Judy Hopps one where the victim still has a male bulge despite Judy clearly being female pissed me off, it's like when people thought Jamie Lee Curtis is a guy, uhhh...Jamie Lee is female, and so is Lady GaGa!), her Pokeslut stuff (which thankfully is not on here, Avianine, how can you be sexist against your very own gender? You have a sort-of-canonically trans-character yet you totally fetishize female characters anyway? Forshame. Al ot of her slutty tf content is just sexualizing certain species or even her own gender), her 'hero suit' stuff (Uhhh...yeah, tell me how a suit that prohibits the villain from taking it off not even to use the toilet is supposed to do any good. And also yeah i'm sorry, but if it's forcing someone to be good, that is still more evil than good), anything Puro related or Puro adjacent (how can anyone like this? Knowing that Dragonsnow is a sick bastard in real life, yes he supports shotacon erotic art of his own characters even though Collin is a teenager in the game, he's the Dan Schneider of the transformation community, the game was awful enough with it being a blatant fetish-fest but Avianine's Puro stuff made it worse), and of course anyone where Ciel turns someone into herself..(I swear Ciel is the most arrogant phoenix ever, she sometimes forcibly turns people into clones of her. Does Agent Smith know she is stealing his gimmick? And also, arrogant, much?).
- Character tfs that are absolutely cursed, even as a joke. The Noid, seriously? Poor Honeycomb Craver and Honey Monster barely get any, and what about those 'Cadbury Creme Egg' ad characters made to represent star signs who either have a weird ability based on their sign or turn into the animal the star sign is of (e.g the twins who like to slurp it/bite it, the Delboy looking Aries dude who turns into a ram, the Scorpio lady with the whip-like hair-do, or the guy in the sweater who morphs into a crab). Pepsiman, seriously? You know, there's a lovely underrated Danish anthro cow mascot who needs TF attention and also a whole group of lovely anthro animal-girls that need more love. Also Cool Cat? Even if it's a joke or a parody, never use Cool Cat in anything not even in TFs unless it's about Cool Cat and Daddy Derek being punished for being terrible role models. Also seriously, those creepy Poopsie unicorn dolls that wear diapers?
- Fat nerd stereotypes. Oh sure, all anime fans are overweight and are bad at sex, all nerds are bad at sex and have bad hygiene, that is totally not an untrue stereotype at all.

Ten Characters, Ten Fandoms
i got tagged by @apathetic-theme-song
Shion - King of Fighters
Sabrina/Natsume - Pokemon
Duo Maxwell - Gundam Wing
Makoto/Lita Kino - Sailor Moon
Cho Hakkai - Saiyuki
Yuuko Ichihara - xxxHolic
Count D - Pet Shop of Horrors
Vincent Valentine - Final Fantasy VII
Kimimaro - Naruto
Alphys - Undertale
i can never think of anyone to tag but if you wanna do this because you saw me do it, feel free to @ me and make me look at your list :3
also this isn't required but bc i love them i put images and brief descriptions of all of these characters under the cut
Tumblr media
Shion, my beloved; the androgynous sub-boss of King of Fighters XI, he uses multiple weapons including a rope-dart, chinese spear, meteor hammer, and can punch air so hard it turns into a projectile. he often quotes Sun Tzu's Art of War, knows tons about cooking, and loves eating delicacies. currently wandering some kind of weird extradimensional space after his boss tried to kill him (he got revenge tho >:3 he can have little a murder, as a treat.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sabrina/Natsume (left) in the Pokemon anime had psychic powers so strong she splintered her personality into a grown-up half and a child half, both of which were able to exercise their own wills independently (the latter via a doll). she was scary, but eventually became more lighthearted and rejoined her split halves thanks to a goofy Haunter.
Duo Maxwell (center) is many things: orphan, gifted mechanic, and self-proclaimed God of Death--which is why he's the pilot of the Deathscythe, a grim-reaper-esque mecha. he witnessed a lot of death early in life, to the point that even his first and last names connect him to people close to him who died
Makoto/Lita Kino (right) is Sailor Jupiter; she's strong, tall, tomboyish, and self-sufficient after the loss of her parents. Her lightning attacks are powerful, but her sense of justice is even more so. She has a cute side, too, and gets flustered when someone calls her feminine. >:3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cho Hakkai (left), problematic fave #1. the mom friend, and a stepford smiler who took a correspondence course in lockpicking, he's atoning for incest and mass-murder by....doing more mass-murder, but the gods told him it was cool this time. to be fair, he's mostly a healer now, as well as the party's designated driver (his dragon, named Jeep, turns into a Jeep).
Yuuko Ichihara (right) is a space-time witch who grants wishes. i want to say more but instead i'll just plead with you to read the xxxHolic manga (and read/watch Tsubasa -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE- for the full experience, since they have some story linkage).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Count D gets two images for a little gallery because look at this freak. gorgeous. the way they move in the OVA is fantastic. genderless sugar-addicted ecoterrorist; what's not to love??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vincent Valentine (left) is a gunslinger who can transform into a fanged monster and chooses to sleep off his depression in a coffin, but he's not a vampire. that's just how it is sometimes. he even joins the hero party without doing anything to fix his bed hair.
Kimimaro (center) has a bloodline ability that lets him utilize his bones as weapons. As a child, he was kept in a cage and only released for combat, despite his gentle nature. Orochimaru (the series' first main antagonist) found him after his clan was wiped out, and took him in; being valued by Orochimaru gave him purpose, and he fights like a zealot as a result... (;A;)
Alphys (right) is a cringefail otaku lesbian lizard who, nevertheless, is a brilliant scientist. she created Mettaton's mechanical body, after all. we don't need to talk about her other works. :) really. :) :) :)

While at my parents' house for Thanksgiving I remembered a couple more cisn't moments. I then forgot one of them, but thinking of any at all still makes me a bit happy, which is probably a sign itself. I find myself wondering how many signs it takes to gain confidence. Maybe there isn't a number and one must simply jump in.
The one I still remember is back in the Gamecube era.  In "WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$" I thought that I would've preferred to be addressed as "li'l <name>" rather than "big <name>". Big just sounded wrong. It's a bit different than just remembering I played female characters, because that was a game where instead of making a character one makes a player profile. Of course, it was a multiplayer game that got played in person, so... yeah. I didn't consider actually changing how the game referred to me but I definitely wished the titles didn't feel wrong.
Besides that I don't really have much. I'm sort of shifting into defense mode for the month, I guess. They say that when you fight dysphoria, dysphoria fights back. I think that was in that article I reblogged earlier in the week. It certainly rings true to me. There was that time with the mirror that I've mentioned, of course. But yeah, towards the end of the month I'm gonna be visiting my parents for about 10 days and I may be better off not knowing things.
I still took care of some small things recently, but probably no new experiments this month. Like, I got a drain plug so I could handwash some items in the laundry sink that need it before they can be used again, and got a flexible measuring tape for myself so I don't have to ask my housemate for theirs when I'm ready to think about new clothes. I also mentioned I was doing gender questioning to the last person I wanted to definitely know before I figured things out, which maybe isn't a small thing but it doesn't really represent progress towards figuring myself out. Telling him went well.
Lastly, something extremely tangential. While I was thinking recently about what my ideal self might be like (difficulty: impossible), it occurred to me that when I get scared of the dark (yes, it happens) there's a consistent theme in the ways I imagine myself more powerful to feel better about the situation. It's always that I have command of some sort of floating assistance, which TVTropes would refer to as either Flying Weapons or Attack Drones. Like, something like Alice Margatroid's dolls, Nanako SUGURI's bits, or Joachim Castlevania's flying swords. I don't really get specific about which though, I just imagine that my unspecified extension of myself happens to be taking space behind me and that it makes me combat-ready. Anyway, I'm not sure what to do with this information at all. Honestly this probably has more to do with what I'd be like in an isekai than anything gender-related. I'm just pleased to have come up with literally anything solid while thinking about myself. It's always been hard for me to decide things about myself. Like, I don't even have a favorite Pokemon.

Misty was also slightly out of character in that episode as a result (while she does tend to get very feisty at times, she’s not exactly the type to just boss people around for the heck of it, though to be fair, it WAS indicated that was a one-time exception for her regarding that episode). Might as well also note that the episode itself, despite Hinamatsuri being a major factor in the episode (in fact, had the events surrounding Electric Soldier Porygon not occurred, that episode actually would have aired ON that date, making it a special episode for that holiday), it was actually given quite a bit of disrespect in that episode due to the bits of how the girls, and even the guys, not being shown at their best. I actually suspect that, had Electric Soldier Porygon not run into problems and thus got that reputation, it would have been this episode that would have nearly killed the series, especially when I doubt most Japanese people would have been too happy at seeing such negative depictions on a fairly major holiday in Japan, and possibly giving some “encouragement” to girls to behave in a bad fashion. I suspect even the Japanese writers may have realized this ultimately as well, since they never made any reference to Hinamatsuri in any capacity since this episode (probably the closest we got to it were those Pokemon Contests that May and Dawn participated in, since the Queen of the Princess Festival Contest was essentially a prototype to them). Might as well add, this episode was also indirectly responsible for my later hatred of May and Dawn, even independently of whether Misty was removed or not.
That all being said, while I have plenty of reasons to criticize the episode, Misty actually came out fairly well from it all things considered, even with her slightly more OOC depiction, so I differ from the episodes detractors, even fellow Misty fans, in that respect. Ultimately, this episode was the reason I became very dedicated to making sure Misty returned to the series, especially after May 6 of my Freshman Year, back in 2006, so OOC or not, her character was DEFINITELY still likeable enough even in that episode for me to go through the fire to bring her back. As for the why? Well, she was pretty much the only girl besides Jessie to NOT go all PMS during those two scenes involving Fiorella Cappucino. Plus, after learning from Dogasu after he FINALLY did a comparison of that episode some background cultural trivia directly pertaining to Misty’s motivations for participating in the tournament, it leaves me even MORE sympathetic to her desire to win. The episode both in Japanese and English doesn’t directly go into full detail about why Misty was specifically motivated to get her own doll set beyond her sisters getting some and she only got hand-me-downs, which is a definite failing of the episode. In Japan, dolls, the kind of dolls in this episode, aren’t simply a materialistic item you can get so you can “get even with the Joneses” like the latest Barbie toy for example or even the latest Transformer toy, they’re also culturally significant as well: Those dolls in question tended to cost a HUGE amount of money, and that’s not even taking into account the type of doll set (there’s a three tiered set, a seven tier set, and a nine tier set, and the last one is considered ideal). And the reason girls tend to get those doll sets is basically a reflection of the parents’ desires of their hopes for their daughter to have a fruitful life. Giving them anything less than their own set (and I mean literally anything less, meaning handmedowns in Misty’s case) usually carries the implication that the girl’s parents don’t even remotely care if she lives a good life at all. What that essentially translates to, in other words, is that Misty’s desires for the dolls was FAR more than just to one-up her sisters (which to be fair was also a bit of motivation there partly because, let’s face it, her sisters repeatedly put HER down and belittled her. Wateflowers at Cerulean City made that pretty clear, to the extent that she dreaded heading back at the time.), but also ultimately to prove to her sisters, and possibly even to herself, that she DOES in fact have worth. A good comparison would probably be to Bart's backstory in Lisa's Sax. And for what it’s worth, as bad as Ash and Brock got in the episode, they also came out of it fairly well as well all things considered (at least they proceeded to willingly provide Misty with their Pokemon, Pikachu in particular outright volunteering, a stark contrast with James, whose Weezing was blatantly stolen from him by Jessie, and Meowth, whom Jessie strongarmed into participating). Speaking as someone who pretty much was written off as possibly being a failure in life early in school due to my autism/aspergers, I know EXACTLY how she feels regarding that bit, even if I myself am an only child like Ash.
Princess vs. Princess review
Might as well give an episode review of Pokemon Original Series episode 52, better known as Princess vs. Princess, or going by Japanese names, Fierce Fight! Pokémon Girls' Festival, especially when that episode, more than anything, was ultimately what solidified my status as a die-hard Misty fan. Die-hard enough in fact that I spent a decade and a half trying to ensure she came back and resumed her goal after it was stolen from her. As you may well know, this episode was the actual debut for Jessie’s Lickitung, which had earlier been alluded to in a previously-aired episode, So Long, Yet So Farfetch’d. The episode was aired out of order both in Japan and the United States thanks in large part to the events surrounding Electric Soldier Porygon. It was also missing Togepi in its entirety (presumably because it occurred before the events of Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon as that was when its egg was discovered by Ash). It also alluded to another Pokemon episode that also was aired out of order, which I’ll get to later on. Oh, and the tournament in question essentially acted as a prototype towards Pokemon Contests in the games and anime, meaning Misty technically was the first Coordinator.
Will have to be multiple posts due to that stupid 4096 text limit error...

Not sure if anyone will see this post, just wanna vent at midnight drawing.
Skip it if you want.
Tumblr media
I didn't start drawing GreenBlue non stop just because I suddenly got interested in them at a time. I've always loved them since I was a little kid, at that day when I saw the "Oldrivalshipping - A thousand years" video, like...8 or 9 years ago I think. I don't know what made me have that kind of impression about the ship, I just remembered the arts were cool, the characters looked so cute together. Then after a year, I mean when I got used to using devices, I tried to find out where those two came from and they led me to PokeSpe.
As a human being who has lived 18 years on this planet, joining multiples fandoms from games to comics, PokeSpe, or Pokemon in general, is still the one fandom that I will spend my whole life making arts for. I'm not genius in art or anything. I started drawing when I was 6 and I kept doing it til now. I made fanarts and doujinshi for fandoms when I was in grade 6 and you know, people usually say their kid arts are cringe. Yeah I do feel like that in some ways back then, when I see how I failed anatomy and stuffs. Honestly I was a big mess back then. I saw many godlike artists who are at my age on Facebook, I admired them but at the same time I felt discouraged. I didn't know how people could improve their art so fast and I just stucked with my messy art forever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah it kept looking like this for years and I just got devastated. Around those years, I didn't know why I didn't think about drawing PokeSpe.
Then I dropped drawing for half a year cuz I was exhausted, only searching for art of GreenBlue. For some mysterious reasons, OldRivalShipping arts made me feel comfortable and as a result they became my comfort couple. The more I saw OldRival arts, the more I want to improve my art and draw for them. In the end, I got back to practicing anatomy and any kind of art stuff.
When I first posted my OldRival art, nobody really care to be honest. Before I drew GreenBlue, I had drawn for fandoms like FnF, LoL, Sky or HTF which just made me become so popular with lots of fame. So when I stopped drawing those, people started to leave. I was disappointed at first but then got used to it. Eventually, I stopped playing attention to fame and what people like. I enjoyed the art I made for my favorite characters and couples. I can just post my drawing there and nobody noticed it and I still feel normal about it, which is a great success for me. I want to draw to make a whole collection and then when I become one of thise godlike artists, I will look back to my old arts and laugh.
I started making arts for GreenBlue since last year, and by now my art has improved a lot. I met many OldRivalShippers which make me very happy since people still remember about this ship and at the same time, kidnap new members for the shipdom ( ˙꒳˙). If you ask me "what is Oldrivalshipping to you?", I will definitely say they are my everything for real lol. I made standee, stickers, orders dolls and cosplay outfits for them. I simply delete "Stress.exe" out of my brain everytime I see them together. Slowly, they just become my reason to keep moving on in life, like- I want to study and finish university, get a job and things so that I can make a room to store OldRivalShipping goods, or buy their figures and doujinshi from my fav Japanese stores. I know it sounds stupid, but it's good for my mental health and I need it. I simply love GreenBlue and I will keep drawing them until the day I die lmao. Thank you for supporting me, you guys also encourage me a lot.

ur team rocket dukeceit lives in my head rent free... can u tell me anything abt their pokemon ?
Aw, thank you so much!! It makes me so happy to hear that you enjoy my Team Rocket!! 💖(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)
Warning for some spoilers ahead!
I figure out a lot about the characters as I write, so all of this might not be set in stone, but for now I think Janus' first Pokémon was Mawile. She's Janus' ace and has been with him the longest. She has a very serious and stalwart personality with a secret soft side for some of the younger Pokémon on Team Rocket's team. (Mainly Ditto and Clobbopus.)
Her Mega Evolution (which I haven't written about yet) has two mouths on the back of her head instead of one, and it makes me think of how Janus' face is split between his human side and his snake side. She's also classified as a "deceiver" and she's yellow, so I thought she was the perfect fit for Jan. :)
Ditto likes to pull pranks by transforming into copies of Team Rocket's Pokémon. It spends most of its time underneath Janus' hat and helps Team Rocket out by transforming into whatever Pokémon suits the job they need to get done. It doesn't always get the transformations right though, often making small mistakes, which is meant to mirror Janus getting tiny things off about the other Sides while impersonating them in the series. I think Ditto can be a lil self-conscious about this, but Janus gives it a lot of praise to boost its confidence. It's best friend's with Remus' Rattata.
Shiny Arbok has a fierce and prideful personality, especially when he first met Janus. Team Rocket was sent to a laboratory to cause some mischief, and Janus found Arbok (or Ekans, I haven't decided yet) as one of the Pokémon being mistreated there. He stole Arbok from the lab and they've been partners ever since.
Arbok wouldn't listen to Janus' commands for a long time, but eventually, Janus earns his trust and Arbok becomes a loyal member of his team. :') He is also close friends with Mawile.
Sacagawea (or Morpeko) is the sweetest Pokémon on Team Rocket while she is in Full Belly Mode. She goes to Janus for cuddles and snacks, but I think she has formed a very particular pallet. She has great taste and refuses anything below her standards. This is due to Janus spoiling her with sophisticated meals, but her greatest weakness is cookies, which she is not too picky about. She's bonded with Janus enough that she has offered him and the other Pokémon food when they are upset, which, for a Morpeko, is very significant. She also has a mischievous streak but most of her "pranks" are stealing meals from high end restaurants.
In her Hangry Mode, she is quite violent, with Team Rocket as well as the other Pokémon. Mawile is the only Pokémon who Sacagawea will listen to in this mode.
I picked out Morpeko because it's called "the two-sided Pokémon" and also because of Janus' comments about Sacagawea the Hamster in the anniversary video. (This is also why I named her Sacagawea lol.) I also think Sacagawea might have been a gift to Janus from Mr. Mysterious Orange Side™ but ... that really depends on the character reveal for Orange for me to be certain.
Onto Remus!!
I think Rattata was Remus' first Pokémon. He is very playful and out of his Pokéball most of the time, opting to ride on Remus' head or his shoulder. Remus makes a lot of cute lil outfits for him like his green sash and maybe even a tutu to match him! ;)
Rattata doesn't battle too often, usually cheering for the others on the sidelines, but on rare occasions, he can be passionate and formidable in battle. He is usually given other tasks such as sneaking into small spaces, stealing belongings off of people without being noticed, unlocking doors, keeping a lookout, etc. He loves walking around on his hind legs and is a talented tap dancer.
Banette and Trubbish (now Garbodor) used to live together on the streets. Banette met Trubbish when he was thrown away as a plush doll. He quickly became possessed and turned into a Pokémon, and the two formed a close friendship.
I chose Banette for Remus because of the surrounding lore of it becoming a Pokémon over its grudge for being junked. It reminded me of how Remus was discarded as a creative aspect for Thomas. Also, ghost types are generally seen as spooky and scary, so I thought it was a good fit for him.
As for Garbodor  ... what isn't more fitting for Remus than a giant pile of trash?? Though, I think Garbodor is actually quite sensitive, as most people avoided it for its smell, leaving it feeling lonely before Remus. It is extremely affectionate and likes to embrace Team Rocket a lot, much to Janus' chagrin and to Remus' delight. Garbodor also loves to "decorate" itself with trash that it finds pretty. 🥺
Basically, Banette and Garbodor felt abandoned or alone before Remus came into their lives. Now they both get a lot of love and attention. :')
Clobbopus is the baby of the group. I was trying to find an octopus Pokémon for Remus, but the only one I found was Tentacruel, and that didn't really speak to me. I read about how Clobbopus investigates things through punching them with its tentacles, and I was like ... yup, that's the one for Remus. I love the image of it constantly punching Remus (out of affection, of course, haha!)
Clobbopus is very curious about the world and is prone to walking off and getting into dangerous situations, which results in Mawile and the others running after him and protecting him, even though Clobbopus has extraordinary strength for a baby Pokémon. He is very attached to Remus, often embracing the side of his face with his tentacles and refusing to let go. Clobbopus sees Janus' Mawile as a mother figure and is also quite spoiled by everyone on the team.
Lastly, I really want to give Remus a Grafaiai ever since it's reveal! It looks so fitting for Remus, so I will have to explore that with the next Pokémon fic I write.
Thank you again for your question, this was so much fun to sit down and think about!! ー( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Thank you for tagging me, I’m flattered! As a general guide, I’ve found this one from Veronica With Four Eyes is good and I've got a similar philosophy in general for art (and especially fanart) I didn’t make. The same site has a very useful guide on cosplay image descriptions, too, which is handy since I've only done a few cosplay IDs. For how I specifically approach fanart beyond that, with the note that I tend to go long and detailed and that's by no way required:
- My general rule is "What's important to describe here", which is one part "what's the subject matter" and one part stylistic details like color scheme or art style. In a photo, I'm also going to describe what's important (if I'm taking a picture of a doll I made, I'm going to describe who they are, what they look like, and any details I'm particularly proud of) versus what's only in the picture incidentally (I might mention I'm holding the doll in the palm of my hand, for scale, but I don't need to describe the background or if I'm holding a shoe so I can get a better shot of it.) A lot of figuring out what to focus on is a learned skill, especially when trying to be concise - I know when I started I added a lot more detail than was really necessary, and you're trying not to make it longer than you have to. Practice helps, and personally I've found trying a really detailed piece and breaking down what I see in it and what I think's important has helped a lot in identifying that. For editing down, think about what details you can consolidate and what ones you can leave assumed.
- With characters who get multiple outfits or appearances in a series, I usually say something like “Beat from Neo The World Ends With You” or “Sora from Kingdom Hearts, in his outfit from the first game” to specify what version, assuming they’re just in their standard look. If the art’s entirely focused on the character - say, this fanart of Cure Prism - I’ll describe their appearance in detail, but if the primary focus is what they’re doing, I’ll probably just leave it at that so the description of their appearance isn't overwhelming, and assume anyone who's looking at this fanart already has some idea what they look like. (Especially when the outfit's complicated - if Cure Prism were doing anything interesting in that piece, it would be completely swallowed up by the description of her dress. If I felt it was SUPER necessary to include something about her appearance, I'd probably stick to something like "A preteen girl with long pink hair and a ruffly white dress," and move on.) That said, if it’s something new - say, fanart of Pokemon from an upcoming game - I’m going to describe their appearance in detail anyway, assuming the viewer isn’t familiar with something revealed that day/a month ahead of release/etc. This is entirely subjective and there’s no real rule there on my part or otherwise.
- If the character is wearing something different than usual - a redesign or a “let’s put these characters in formalwear” - that gets a more detailed description of what the outfit looks like and how it differs from the “standard” one I’m assuming the viewer’s familiar with. It it were something like an outfit swap, I’d just say “Sora, wearing Roxas’s clothes.” It’s less important to get across what those clothes look like than it is whose clothes they’re wearing. And if a character wears several different outfits or variations without a main one, I’ll give a quick description of what they’re wearing if that's the focus. (Say, "Usagi Tsukino, wearing a light green button-up shirt with a light blue denim jacket and a long, pale pink skirt," vs "Usagi Tsukino in civilian clothes" for something where what she's wearing doesn't matter so much as her not being in her Sailor Moon getup.)
- A lot of it’s contextual. For example, and I’m not linking these just so I don’t spend an hour tracking them down since this is long enough, I’ve seen two text posts using box art from a Kingdom Hearts game. One of them’s a post asking if a zombie and a ghost can come from the same person where someone reblogs with the KH2 box, the other’s talking about how evocative the art for the original KH1 cover is. With the first one, the joke is just “this is a central plot element of Kingdom Hearts 2,” so I’d just say “the cover of Kingdom Hearts 2″ and leave it at that. What the cover specifically looks like doesn't matter. With the second, the post is focusing on the art, so I’d go into way more detail about what it looks like and what about it is so striking - the use of color, the heart-shaped moon and the characters in the darkness in front of it, how they're posed and where they are relative to each other. We want it to be descriptive without being super-interpretive - I have trouble reading Sora's facial expression on that cover, so I'd probably describe it as "neutral" or something, compared to his more confident smile on the 1.5 HD cover. (And then back up that adjective with the way he's sitting on the throne.)
When there's dialogue or a comic, I usually do "description of panel first, then dialogue," but I also think about pacing with those in particular and how I'm reading the comic and will sometimes change things up based off the comedic/dramatic timing there. For example, with this Spy x Family comic, in the second panel I described Anya's pose and her dialogue first, and then describe the contents of the drawing to keep the same "Oh, that's cute wait WHAT" we get reading the dialogue. It won't do to reveal her small child nightmare fuel right away. (In hindsight, I'd probably do the fourth panel with the inset and dialogue first and then describe the lamp panel after.)
- Playing off that, personally I tend to look at a piece and go “Okay, what about this am I paying attention to? What do I think is important to getting the sense of what this image is?” I’ll usually mention the medium (traditional, digital, papercraft, crochet,) and a bit about the style and color scheme if it’s something distinctive - pastels vs monochrome vs bright colors on a black background, for example. I’m not great at explaining differences in artstyle I see, but I can at least mention it’s “cartoony” or “watercolor-like” or in the style of a different series or artist. If something particularly catches my eye about the piece, I’ll try and mention it. Since I'm adding descriptions to things I didn't make myself, I'm usually asking myself what about it I like and what about it makes me want to reblog it, and then adding some of those aspects to my description.
All that said, a minimally-detailed description’s better than no description and quick to read. If you don't want to go into huge detail, that's fine! It's still a description. I can certainly stand to work on making mine be shorter, and I DO go further in on the interpretive side than average. That's by no means required.
And now for an example, I'll go back to the Kingdom Hearts 1 box art and break down how I'd describe it step by step. Under the cut, since this is long enough.
So. Here's the box art. What do I notice here?
Tumblr media
There's the huge heart-shaped moon in the center, which is what one looks at first because it's the biggest source of color contrast on the cover. Everything else is blue-black except the edges of the city at the bottom, and you can barely see that with the licenses. Second thing you notice are the characters, because they're in the center, just below the heart with two exceptions. Everyone's shaded in blue, same as the sky. Contrast again. In particular, we'll notice Sora in the center. Since he's in the center and standing up, we know he's the protagonist and we see his fancy weapon. He's also got a little bit of red visible from his outfit, which is underlining how important he is, but I think that's more detail than we'll need in a crowded cover.
So for an image description, I'd say something like "The box art from Kingdom Hearts 1, showing a massive, golden heart-shaped moon and the game's five main characters on an elaborate roof decoration in front of it, all largely in shadow. The protagonist, Sora, stands at the center of the moon, the Keyblade in his hand at his side."
Next most important thing - who are these other people? We have Riku, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Kairi. Kairi's sitting at Sora's feet, Goofy and Donald are sitting just below and behind them, and then Riku's standing (!) just slightly below Sora (!!), with his back turned (!!!), his sword over his shoulder and his eyes closed and facing downward where every other character is facing the same way Sora is, looking up and to the left. (Which, visible in this version as opposed to the artwork sans logos, is where the title is. Instead of putting it in the center, they put Sora and the moon there and then have Sora and everyone else looking out at it. Neat touch. By this point I'm used to seeing it as the artwork on its own.)
The cover's implying A LOT about Riku immediately just from that. And I don't have to go into any more details about his role in the game - just calling attention to the fact that he's contrasting everyone else but still positioned below Sora tells us he's got a significant plot role and it's probably antagonistic. I might mention he's the rival or Sora's best friend, because otherwise someone unfamiliar with the series is just going to ask "Who's Sora? Who's Riku? Who's Kairi?" if I only give their names, but everything else is implied. As to Donald and Goofy, I'm going to assume the viewer's familiar with the fact that they're Disney characters but will mention their weapons, since that implies things about their role in combat.
So, back to our description:
"The box art from Kingdom Hearts 1, showing a massive, golden heart-shaped moon and the game's five main characters on an elaborate roof decoration in front of it, all largely in shadow. The protagonist, Sora, stands at the center of the moon, the Keyblade in his hand at his side. At his feet sits his best friend Kairi, leaning back with her feet dangling off the side of the chimney, and behind them sit Sora's companions Goofy and Donald Duck. Goofy has a shield with a Mickey Mouse emblem, while Donald holds a staff with a wizard's hat on top. All four of them look out at the sky, upwards and to the left, at the title logo in the corner. Goofy and Donald have small smiles while Sora and Kairi have neutral expressions. On the right, behind and just below Sora in the moonlight, stands his best friend and rival Riku. He is standing with his back to Sora, a wing-shaped sword slung over his shoulder, with his eyes closed and his face downward. The wind blows Sora's hair out of his face and Riku's hair in front of his."
I decided to put Riku's description at the end to emphasize the contrast between him and everyone else on the cover, but you could just as easily put him before Kairi because you're going to notice him third. (Moon -> Sora -> Riku -> everyone else.) That would read more like:
"The box art from Kingdom Hearts 1, showing a massive, golden heart-shaped moon and the game's five main characters on a chimney in front of it, all largely in shadow. The protagonist, Sora, stands at the center of the moon, the Keyblade in his hand at his side. On the right, behind and just below Sora in the moonlight, stands his best friend and rival Riku. He is standing with his back to Sora, a wing-shaped sword slung over his shoulder. At Sora's feet sits their best friend Kairi, leaning back with her feet dangling off the side of the chimney, and behind her sit Sora's companions Goofy and Donald Duck. Goofy has a shield with a Mickey Mouse emblem, while Donald holds a staff with a wizard's hat on top. Sora, Kairi, Donald, and Goofy look out at the sky, upwards and to the left, at the title logo in the corner. Goofy and Donald have small smiles while Sora and Kairi have neutral expressions. Riku stands with his eyes closed and his face downward. The wind blows Sora's hair out of his face and Riku's hair in front of his."
Anything else worth mentioning here? There's the town on the edges, and there's a Heartless-shaped gargoyle in the lower-right corner, but they're not very visible in this particular version. Still, I'll mention the city at the beginning to give context for what the heck everyone's standing on. (Which... I have no idea how to meaningfully describe that thing.) I'd probably add that this is the PAL region PS2 art (It was the first one I could find an easily-saved image of,) but wouldn't describe all the logos. I also tend to break up longer descriptions with paragraphs for clarity, which is another reason why I'd give Riku his own section at the end - I can put him in another paragraph. So our final version, with the start and end brackets, is:
Tumblr media
[ID: The PAL box art for Kingdom Hearts 1, showing a massive, golden heart-shaped moon over a distant city at night and the game's five main characters on an elaborate roof sculpture in front of it, all largely in shadow.
The protagonist, Sora, stands at the center of the moon, the Keyblade in his hand at his side. At his feet sits his best friend Kairi, leaning back with her feet dangling off the side of the chimney, and behind her sit Sora's companions Goofy and Donald Duck. Goofy has a shield with a Mickey Mouse emblem, while Donald holds a staff with a wizard's hat on top. The four of them look out at the sky, upwards and to the left. Goofy and Donald have small smiles while Sora and Kairi have neutral expressions. They are all looking at the title logo in the upper corner.
On the right, behind and just below Sora in the moonlight, stands his best friend and rival Riku. He is standing with his back to Sora, a wing-shaped sword slung over his shoulder, with his eyes closed and his face downward. The wind blows Sora's hair out of his face and Riku's hair in front of his.

Entry 35: Oops! All Supports Volume #5
Time for one last chunk of Supports with the old Hoshidans before we get a bunch of new ones.
Support: Corrin/Saizo
C: Saizo spies on Corrin because she's a royal from the country they're at war with.
B: Corrin, exhausted from looking over her back to check for Saizo, has trouble moving boxes. Saizo sneaks up and carries the boxes for her, because he's honorable.
A: Corrin gives Saizo candy, which he despises. Saizo tells her that he's done spying on her, because she's so fucking stupid that she couldn't possibly be scheming anything. Corrin decides that the two of them are friends, much to Saizo's chagrin.
S: Saizo says he fell in love with Corrin while stalking her.
Review: Overall, pretty decent. Saizo stalking Corrin and Corrin just shouting at him to get him to come out is fun.
Support: Kaze/Sakura
C: Kaze finds Sakura crying because she lost her doll. Sakura is embarrassed, but Kaze understands that it's important to her and helps her look.
B: Kaze helps Sakura find her doll, which was taken to a shop for repairs by Subaki. Sakura pretends she doesn't sleep with the doll.
A: Sakura shows Kaze all of her dolls, one for each of her siblings.
S: Sakura asks Kaze to see her as a woman, not a child, because she's an adult with a woman's feelings. Something contradicted by the rest of this Support.
Review: This one is cute. Sakura acts like a kid and Kaze is nice to her, treating her lost doll as serious. I’d really like this one, if it didn’t remind me that Sakura is a child soldier who marries much older men.
Support: Jakob/Setsuna
C: Setsuna falls into a pit. Jakob sarcastically asks Setsuna if she's having fun, which tricks her into wanting to stay in the pit.
B: Setsuna falls into another pit. Jakob makes fun of her.
A: Jakob falls into a trap himself and begs Setsuna for help; Setsuna tries to help him out but falls in too.
S: Jakob decides to babysit Setsuna to keep her from falling into pits, an excuse to spend more time with her. The two of them get married.
Review: As I’ve stated previously, Jakob and Setsuna are my favorite characters. Jakob’s dry snark pairs nicely with Setsuna’s stupidity. My only complaint is that it isn’t quite as funny as I hoped and Jakob is a bit of a dick.
Support: Azura/Hayato
C: Hayato asks Azura to tell him about all the places she's seen while traveling the world. She says no and Hayato monologues that she's hiding something.
B: Azura apologizes for being closed off, explaining that her childhood wasn't very happy. With a little more prodding, she describes several beautiful things she saw as a kid.
A: Azura describes more places and thanks Hayato for helping her remember the good times in her past.
S: Hayato proposes to Azura, saying they can visit all of those nice places together. Azura says turns him down and says she'd rather just be friends. Despite this, the two get married and have a kid immediately after this scene.
Review: Not bad, although it does raise one question: how much traveling did Azura do before her mother and her arrived in Nohr? I assumed it wasn’t too much travel, and that it happened when she was very young, but apparently not. I suppose she could be talking about traveling done later, but she was mostly confined to the castle in both of her later homes.
Support: Felicia/Ryoma
C: Felicia, wanting to be friends with Ryoma for Corrin's sake, makes Ryoma rice balls. They contain dark chocolate, which makes Ryoma gag.
B: Felicia tries again, this time filling them with massive lumps of salt.
A: Felicia, on Ryoma's suggestion, makes a Nohrian dish: sandwiches. As a child who watched Pokemon as a kid, this confuses me, because I thought sandwiches and riceballs were the same thing. Surprisingly, the sandwich is good.
S: Felicia and Ryoma eat together, her making sandwiches and him rice balls. Ryoma proposes because Felicia is cute.
Review: A simple, but cute Support.
Support: Oboro/Silas
C: Silas tries to befriend Oboro, but she turns him away because she despises Nohrians to the point of wanting to kill Silas for just existing.
B: Silas, after finding out about Oboro's parents, apologizes to her. She threatened to commit a hate crime, so I think she should be the one apologizing, but whatever. Oboro says she's cool with Silas now apparently because they fought together. Silas tells her that lots of Nohrians are good people, which Oboro kinda accepts but not really.
A: After Silas saves a Hoshidan village from Nohrian bandits off-screen, Oboro asks him if he only did it to prove his loyalty. Silas explains that he's a decent goddamn person, in less harsh words.
S: Oboro apologizes for being awful. Silas proposes and Oboro accepts.
Review: Yeah, this one isn’t great. Oboro is at her most awful here, and the game really doesn’t treat her harshly for that, with Silas treating her as just being misguided. Like, Oboro flat out says she wants to murder Silas for his race and he just shrugs it off. Oboro is a shitty person. And this problem is compounded by the fact that Nohr is constantly played as cartoonishly evil and Hoshido as unquestionably good, meaning that Oboro’s bullshit is somewhat justified by the narrative.
Support: Hinata/Mozu
C: Hinata, scammed by a pretty shopkeeper, pays way too much for supplies. Mozu explains that he needs to haggle.
B: Mozu teaches Hinata to haggle by figuring out people’s personalities.
A: Hinata says that haggling is like fighting.
S: Hinata asks Mozu out because she taught him to look at people differently.
Review: Not bad.
Support: Hana/Takumi
C: Takumi finds Hana training early in the morning. Hana suggests they train together, like they did when they were younger, and Takumi runs away.
B: Takumi reveals he stopped training with Hana after she kicked his ass in front of Sakura. He claims that it was because he held back to avoid beating up his sister's best friend, but I prefer the idea that Takumi got beat up by a child then ran away and never fought her again.
A: Hana swears that she'll protect Takumi to restore her honor. Takumi tells her to focus on protecting Sakura, because Hana really cares about her.
S: Hana reports in everytime she defends Sakura as an excuse to talk to Takumi. Takumi says he likes her too.
Review: A fairly bland Support, all things considered. The stuff about Hana wanting to protect Sakura is fine, but other than that it's fairly mediocre.
Support: Azama/Kagero
C: Azama asks about Kagero's clothing. Kagero tells Azama to fuck off.
B: Azama tries talking to Kagero. She puts a knife to his throat and tells him to never talk to her again.
A: Kagero says she should probably do research into ninja clothes.
S: Kagero explains that ninja clothes are good for stealth. Azama says he likes her.
Review: This one went from zero to one hundred really fast. And I’d call Kagero out for being insanely violent when Azama did nothing to her, but I’ve read his other Supports. Threatening to kill him if he talks to you is completely reasonable. Still, this one completely fails to be a romantic Support line.
Support: Ryoma/Silas
C: Ryoma asks about Corrin's childhood in Nohr. Silas explains that they played together as kids. Ryoma tells Silas to stay with Corrin, because it's important for her to have friends.
B: Silas confides that he was a lonely, isolated child before meeting Corrin. Ryoma and Silas bond over their mutual love of Corrin.
A: Silas swears a blood oath out of their respect for each other.
Review: Not bad. I especially like that this is the only Silas Support thus far to actually give a good reason for Silas’s loyalty. Him being a lonely kid with Corrin as his only friend is a great bit of characterization that should have been mentioned in their Support.

Pokemon Journeys Episode 48. Let’s review:
1. I’m honestly confused on why Ash and Goh didn’t bring Dragonite and Greedent with them to Unova. Greedent was the mon responsible for getting them the all-you-can-eat pass and while Dragonite lost, they still helped out as much as they could, so where’s the credit?
2. That Pretty-Much Pikachu / Hikachu mech was Tails Doll level creepy in its inactive state. Eugh. And the fact that it can behave pretty sentiently when active honestly does not help matters.
3. This is an issue for the entire episode, but why is Cinderace trying so hard to be friends with Lucario? While it’s appreciated that he’s actually trying to bond with a Pokemon that isn’t smaller than two feet, with how much he’s putting into in making friends with Lucario, it just seems..... forced in order to establish the comedic theme for this episode. It especially doesn’t help that this is actually the first time Lucario and Cinderace have interacted in a non-battle manner, which makes this whole plot point come out of nowhere.
If they’re trying to establish the two as future rivals, then that shouldn’t work either because of their trainer’s different goals and the fact that if Cinderace ever tried to take on Lucario in a no-holds-barred battle with their trainers without any plot-induced stupidity, Cinderace would get absolutely bodied. Lucario has already done so much more impressive things than Cinderace, that in a fighting sense, it wouldn’t be a contest. Not to mention, Goh’s goal is about catching while Ash’s is about battling, but why set this up if Goh and his Pokemon are somehow just as strong as Ash? It doesn’t make sense and, like I said in an anon ask, it ruins the power balance of the show.
4. And here’s a problem I have specifically for Lucario: Why is he now suddenly acting like he’s too good for anything? Now only is this hinted in the new opening where Dragonite basically has to force him to appear on-screen, but in the episode proper, when Ash offers him a snack, he just coldly stares off. Ummm, why? He has no qualms following Ash’s directions in battle, they never had a previous spate to warrant this behavior from Lucario, Lucario showed no hesitation to cheer with his friends after defeating Eternatus, and he was completely loyal to Ash as a Riolu both inside and OUTSIDE of battles to the point he was basically a 2nd Pikachu.
If they’re trying to make him a stern and stoic type, that would be cliche because we’ve already had those Lucarios with Sir Aaron, Maylene, Ryley, and Korrina in the past. It wouldn’t be original or anything, it would be completely boring. Heck, as much as it pains me to say this, freaking CAMERON’s Lucario had more personality than this! Plus, the anime has established that baby Pokemon usually take more of their trainers after hatching, and since Lucario showcased more of that as a Riolu, it honestly feels like his character is taking a step back in development, it especially doesn’t help that we JUST had the whole “stoic-guy develops more” stuff with Raboot. Writers, DON’T reuse past elements. Try new things!
5. While the snacks Ash and Goh get do look good, it honestly would’ve been cooler if they got snacks pertaining more to the signature of Iris and Cilan as a little callback to the Best Wishes series, like maybe an Axew Chocolate figure or a Mint Pansage treat. The anime did one with Dawn and Brock with the Piplup and Croagunk episode, so why not here?
6. Also Goh only prefers plain vanilla and that’s just too relatable to me cause I love vanilla.
7. Another issue with the overall episode, but Unova just seems so dead. There are no additional people or Pokemon at the park nor at the city. This is a problem because, not only is it important to keep your worlds alive, but this is UNOVA we’re talking about, and it doesn’t help that the episode takes place in the Pokemon World equivalent of New York City.
8. And now Lucario hates getting his fur dirty? When and why??? He had no issue going his fur scorched a billion times over with Eternatus and Mewtwo and this is also a repeat of Lycanroc’s whole thing with getting messy. While I doubt this will become a big development thing that Lycanroc had, it’s just disappointing they’re reusing past gags for Pokemon instead of trying new ones.
9. Apparently Cinderace’s time as a Raboot never made it learn the value of personal space.
10. ANOTHER overall issue with the episode is how choppy the animation is. There are just some parts that look very poorly put together. Examples being Lucario and Cinderace flying around the city and Team Rocket blasting off. It literally just looks like a bunch of different frames grouped together without proper transitioning. C’mon animators, you’re better than that! Literally almost every battle scene we’ve received from this season alone so far is proof of that.
11. I do love the canine-esque sounds Lucario makes throughout the episode, something I don’t believe other Lucarios have done.
12. I really wish episodes like this where it’s the Pokemon with the most focus had either subtitles (like in OG’s Island of Giant Pokemone) or the narrator translating for them (like SM’s Pikachu’s Exciting Adventure). It would be a good way to know their characters more and help build connections. Heck, not even Meowth bothered to translate for TR when Lucario and Cinderace started arguing. Missed opportunity right there.
13. The gag where TR, Lucario, and Cinderace started swinging around the city right behind Ash, Pikachu, and Goh lasted WAY too long.
14. Nice touch of TR’s rental Pokemon of the day being Sawk and Throh.
15. Wait, so it was Cinderace, the lesser experienced of the two who’s owned by the catcher, who thought of the idea of using their glued-together palms to their advantage? Not Lucario, the one who’s been through more battles and owned by the battler? What the what?
16. Defeated by two mons who were on a basic handicap and didn’t had their trainers on their side. Further proof of how absolute jokes Team Rocket are.
17. I’ve said this for past regions, but plump Ash can either be really blessed or really cursed.
18. Hahaha Lucario got dirty again and he’s chasing Cinderace now. Can I please be done with this review now? I can? Cool.
Overall.... yeah this episode wasn’t good imo. Weird animation, forced and/or inconsistent character moments, an environment close to dead, and unfunny gags that lasted longer than they should have. Hecks, not ever TR made me laugh in this episode. I’m seriously hoping they aren’t trying to establish some kind of “ace rivalry” between Lucario and Cinderace. I’ve already discussed this issues and problems with that, so I’m not gonna repeat myself.
Sorry fellow fans, but I gotta score this episode a 3/10 for all the reasons above.
Looks like next episode will introduce us to Chloe’s leaked Eevee, so here’s hoping we can get some character development! Please please PLEASE some character development!!

Krenko’s Guide to Pokemon: Eevee Line
Tumblr media
Part 1. Because seriously.
DESIGN:
Eevee was intentionally designed to be some sort of generic wild critter that could exist but doesn’t. Given traits of all sorts of small, furry things, the purpose of Eevee is to be cute, lovable, and evoke the feeling of ‘some animal.’ It is simultaneously known to everyone and completely unknown. Everyone recognizes Eevee but nobody actually knows what it is.  Eevee is, above all else, THE ‘normal’ Pokemon.
And honestly, it’s totally freaking adorable. Eevee is the best rabbit dog fox kitty thing that ever was, and nobody doesn’t love Eevee. Its design basically couldn’t be better. There’s a reason this fuzzlewuzzle regularly competes with Pikachu for being the face of Pokemon. Sure, it can’t quite win, but it’s up there.
But the concept of Eevee is really the interesting one. Eevee was the first Pokemon with branching evolutions, and while other Pokemon have gotten such since then, Eevee has always had the most. Starting with three in Generation 1, there are currently eight possible evolutions of Eevee, and there could easily be more on the way. This puts the Eevee line in a really notable position. I always love when a Pokemon has a unique gimmick, and while in combat each Eeveelution might just be another, having an Eevee with so many options to choose from makes it an interesting Pokemon to obtain.
Tumblr media
But before we discuss the designs of any evolutions, let’s talk about the non-evolved alternate form: Gigantamax. Like Pikachu and Meowth, GIgantamax Eevee is just a gimmick. The Pokemon’s not strong enough to be used, and Gigantamax Eevee can’t actually evolve, so it’s just there to be big and fluffy and cute… and it just fails at that. It’s not that Gigantamax Eevee isn’t cute- of course it is- but it’s not cuter than Eevee is normally, and the big bushy collar isn’t nearly as fun of a unique touch as Meowth being memes or Pikachu going back to its fat gen 1 design. Sadly, Gigantamax Eevee is a waste of everyone’s time.
And now onto the actual evolutions.
Tumblr media
VAPOREON:
Vaporeon is an interesting and unique creature, with large fins on its head and small ones down its back and tail giving it the appearance of a fish, but still with a clearly mammalian mouth and legs. Vaporeon is clearly aquatic and clearly related to Eevee, but other than that it simply doesn’t look like anything. And yet Vaporeon still has a clear design and aesthetic, as something that could maybe possibly be something between a dog, a seal and a dolphin. It’s an elegant, clean design that looks fantastic without looking absurd.
Tumblr media
JOLTEON:
Jolteon’s just yellow with spikes. It’s simple, but it works. There’s nothing weird about Jolteon’s design in the least, though admittedly that means there’s nothing overly special about it. Jolteon is just what happens when you take Eevee and make it cool, and other than the bright coloration there’s nothing particularly odd about it. One of the more subdued Eeveelutions, I like it, it’s cool, but I don’t exactly have specific praise for it.
Tumblr media
FLAREON:
Flareon looks even more realistic than Jolteon. The red coloration’s a bit bright, but other than that it’s just a big ol’ floofy floof. The shape and color of its fur suggest fire, but unlike many fire types it doesn’t feel the need to actually be on fire.  Like Jolteon, Flareon is a good, clean design.
It’s also noteworthy here that the first three Eeveelutions have big collars, like Eevee does. The rest do not. Honestly, I really like this part of the design, but I understand why not all would have it.
Tumblr media
ESPEON:
The psychic evolution, Espeon’s purple colors are a bit more out there than the previous three,  and my first instinct when looking at it is that it’s supposed to be hairless like a Sphynx Cat, but then it has those huge tufts on the side of its face that are clearly hair despite it not having tufts or even signs of fur anywhere else. They’re too high to be whiskers, too, so they just come across as weird. In fact, everything about Espeon is weird, and not always for the better. The split tail is a cool design, but I don’t understand what it’s going for. The jewel on the forehead I DO understand as a psychic focus, but it’s so obviously artificial compared to the previous Eeveelutions that it feels out of place. In fact, the core concept of Espeon feels a bit out of place. Most of the Eeveelutions are the result of stone or location radiation, and Umbreon happens at night. Espeon levels up in the day time with affection, and somehow becomes a psychic type. A psychic type whose pokedex entry calls the Sun Pokemon.
Eevee’s whole gimmick is that when exposed to weird stuff it transforms, so I have a hard time understanding why a happy Eevee turns into a psychic type during the day. If it was just about the strong bond with its trainer, why does the sun matter? And if the sun does matter, what’s going on with its everything?
Espeon ultimately just doesn’t work for me. It reads wrong as a creature and I don’t understand how it fits in with other Eevee lore.
Tumblr media
UMBREON:
Okay, what’s up with those circles? Black fur I get. Gold stripes I get. Floofy tail, red eyes, sleek body, sure sure sure. I am totally on board with that. But those clean, obvious golden rings absolutely take me out of this design. I get that they’re supposed to be moonlight rings or something, but I’d have been much happier if this thing had golden spots instead of such clean shapes, to make it look more like a realistic animal.
As far as actually fitting though, it makes sense as a Night-based Pokemon, but the Moon thing is a bit more of a stretch. It’s not nearly as bad as Espeon and the Sun, but Eevee plus Moonlight should result in a brighter, glowing Eevee, not a darker, more sinister Eevee.  Umbreon also has a serious issue of its abilities not being what it says they are. For example, the Pokedex says it’s got poison; Umbreon has never naturally learned a poison type attack. Its rings glowing is supposed to be one of its key features, but none of its abilities reflect that.
This isn’t to say that I dislike Umbreon or Espeon overall. Some of my favorite Pokemon have been Umbreons and Espeons. Their designs just really don’t sell the story that they’re trying to.
Tumblr media
LEAFEON:
So, now this is more like what I’m talking about. Eevee + Moss Rock/Leaf Stone = Eevee that’s turning into a plant. It’s still an animal, but with its ears and tail and some of its fur turning into leaves so it can now photosynthesize. Also the leaf is a sword because that’s bitchin’.
Now, while I am totally on board with Leafeon’s concept, I do think the design could’ve used a bit of tweaking. The head and tail are great, but the little leaf things coming off the body look a bit odd, and I’m not really sold on the mostly tan color scheme. I think it’d have looked better with more browns and greens. Specifically, brown legs and belly, green back and neck. Maybe a leafy collar like the original Eeveelutions all had collars. Still, I like it overall.
Tumblr media
GLACEON:
I don’t particularly like Glaceon. While it reads as an Ice Eevee it doesn’t read as an Eevee infused with Ice or adapted to Ice so much as it reads as an Eevee with design elements that look ice-like. The sharp diamond shapes over it don’t actually have anything to do with ice the way Jolteon’s spikes are the result of electric charge or Flareon’s floof looks like fire. Further, the addition of what is clearly a hairdo is just sort of weird. It’s too sharp to look like it comes naturally and while it makes for an interesting visual element it doesn’t mean anything or serve any purpose in the Glaceon itself. At least Espeon’s split tail was supposed to be for sensing things. Glaceon just has huge flaps that are definitely a disadvantage in a fight and don’t seem to serve any purpose other than possibly attracting a mate.
Glaceon is a solid design for a creature but not for ‘this is an Eevee mutated by the ice element.’
Tumblr media
SYLVEON:
OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ABOMINATION!?!?
Oh, it’s a cute fairy Eevee that’s pink and blue with ribbons and bows? You’d think so, and I don’t mind the color scheme for a fairy type but THOSE ARE NOT RIBBONS AND BOWS. Those are ‘feelers.’ Those are FLESH. Fur-covered, wriggly, boneless flesh.
This is bad. This is wrong. This is not okay.
This is not a fairy. This is an eldritch horror. Foxes should not have tentacles, and tentacles should not have fur.
And that’s not even getting into how much I hate Sylveon’s evolution method. Eevee evolves into Sylveon when it has affection and knows a fairy type move… but Eevee can just learn Baby-Doll Eyes on its own at level 15, so this isn’t a feat or anything special, it’s just a normal part of raising an Eevee. The worst part is that this is some weird new and special method to explain why you couldn’t have done it before, but the only actual change here is that Eevee didn’t learn Baby-Doll Eyes naturally before, so instead of something being discovered the world has just been rewritten to allow Sylveon to exist.
Because Sylveon is a monster from outside reality that has forced its way in here.
I hate Sylveon. I hate Sylveon so much. And to truly understand how much I hate Sylveon you need to understand that I love Eevee. I have two Eevee on my nightstand- named Artemis and Apollo after my Espeon and Umbreon from Gold and Silver. I make it a point to use Eeveelutions in every game, because I love them so much. One of my oldest RP characters was a Jolteon named Flash. On Halloween, I had one of my video game characters dress up as an Eevee to go to a costume party in an MMO. Which obviously didn’t have an Eevee costume so I had to assemble it. So my hate for Sylveon isn’t just ‘oh, this is an icky Pokemon,’ but I take its existence as an insult to Eevee, who I love so much.

You came to the wrong Eeveehood by Dakunart
TYPING:
What type do you want? Eeveelutions come in eight different types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. But that’s Pokemon for you. And in the future we’ll probably get even more types. I just hope they have good designs and aren’t disgusting abominations.
STATS OVERVIEW:
We’ll talk about stats of Eeveelutions individually, but for now let’s note what they all have in common: numbers. Every evolved form of Eevee has a 130, a 110, a 95, two 65s, and a 60, for a total of 525 base stats, making for Pokemon that are highly specialized in some areas and very weak in others. This results in all of them having at least a decent stat array, except for Flareon, though whether their array is offensive, defensive, or more balanced varies.
Tumblr media
Eeveelutions by Endivinity
MOVES OVERVIEW:
As with stats, we’ll discuss them for individual evolutions, but as they’re all evolved from Eevee they do share a large amount of their move pool. Eevee is notorious for learning Baton Pass naturally, a move so powerful and useful it’s been banned in many formats, and though it requires chain breeding, Eevee’s one of a relatively small number of Pokemon that can learn Wish.
Yawn, Substitute, Protect, and Rest all offer strategic options, and though not available in the current generation, Eevee could previously learn Toxic.
Actual attack forms for Eevee to learn pre-evolution are pretty limited, but an Eevee can learn Shadow Ball and Iron Tail, both of which have their uses.
Eevee does have a number of unique attacks, primarily from Let’s Go Eevee but also the Z-Move Extreme Evoboost. While all of these are viciously powerful to the point of being outright broken, Eevee’s evolved forms can’t learn them, and thus they’re not relevant in most competitive play.
Next time, we’ll start going down the list of forms and discussing them in the specifics. This one’s a doozy.
