pokemon from a dream i had awhile back. i remember trying to catch a groupup would result in the "buddy" being caught instead and cause it to evolve, making it impossible to actually catch a groupup (the names were also provided by the dream, hence why they're not very good)

edit: ok i take it back since every other note on this post is telling me the names are good lmao. i actually do like groupup i'm kinda impressed with my subconscious for that one it was just houndlone i wasn't sold on JHSBHJSfs

Rayquaza's have the ability to shift their scales to match the sky around them, practically making themselves invisible whilst airborne, which makes them notoriously difficult to spot let alone study.

Even during the nesting season where they'll be the lowest to the ground in their entire lives, as in high up in mountain peaks. It is known among Pokémon Professors that to dedicate one's life to studying Rayquaza means to dedicate one's life to eternal waiting and disappointment. One has better chances spotting a Mew in their lifetime than a Rayquaza.

left it a little open ended because i couldnt decide how exactly this happens:

1) arceus straight up does give him the ability to understand pokemon. it does not consider this either a blessing or a curse. it is simply allowing him to hear what they've been saying this whole time.

2) going off how iris only understands the hearts of dragons as opposed to n's ability to directly translate, maybe understanding pokemon is some sort of hyper-empathy thing. volo gains such a strong connection with his pokemon through fighting god he can actually understand what they feel

3) his guilty conscience catches up with him and he's imagining this just based on what n told him

A cool and fun commission made for a dear friend of mine irl, they wanted their 2 fave pokemon together, surrounded by lilies of the valleys or blue bells, I choose the first, because it fitted better with the aesthetic
