She’s Back! [Dawn from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl]

I was unsatisfied with my previous result of Dawn this I drew her again. This result is a little more satisfying as it is more than just a head. However, the head does feel a little tall and the scarf is a little off. There will always be next time!

BDSP was fine, y'all just mean

Not saying some of the dislike wasn't worth it

But the problem wasn't with ILCA it's the base game of Diamond and Pearl

A lot of people's complaints basically sum up that they didn't incorporate Platinum into the game

Mainly from Pokemon available, with some mentioning the Giratina distortion world and such plus other changes that platinum had from DP like battle frontier differences

On one hand yes it would have been nice if they did make some more changes like implementing more Platinum story elements making it more of a definitive Sinnoh experience

But also it's DP remakes not Platinum remakes

Similar with ORAS and FRLG they had some new stuff and revamped stuff. But it's not like FRLG had Yellow elements (that's lets go) and ORAS had a lot of Emerald. At most the Delta episode for ORAS was their workaround for no Emerald so if you want to group that as the full game then sure BDSP needed some DLC but then you have the DLC dilemma is getting the platinum stuff worth an extra $20-$30 dollars and have that dlc debate

The underground solved a lot of the issues imo

The underground having Pokemon down there personally solved a lot of the Pokemon availability problem

For example, I picked Turtwig so I wasn't just limited to Ponyta for a fire type since I didn't pick Chimchar I had options as Magby and Houndour were now available, which fixes the fire type problem imo

And I think people overreact about the changes to the bases and flag capturing as yes it would have been nice if they were the same but I think the changes outweigh it greatly. Plus if ORAS showed anything people really didn't care to have the secret bases as secret bases and just liked it for nostalgia mainly

Not saying BDSP was perfect but I do think in a lot of aspects it is the definitive Sinnoh experience as you're basically just missing the Giratina story which isn't as necessary to the plot imo

As it kinda just seems like Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum were seen as definitive because they don't have the dual version conundrum so they seem more complete in compariso. But when the dual version games get additional content is the additional usually third legendary plot really worth it?

Maybe maybe not

And I know a lot of rumors about potential Johto or Unova remakes have been going on and people are worried as they didn't like BDSP

But if for example ILCA makes the remakes and has the chibi style and etc

But they fix the level scaling in Johto or something like Pokemon availability for Unova I think those would be better even if minimal changed

I do have my own hopes and wishes for potential remakes but I will wait until they are officially announced

Adhd has once again given me a glimpse of a world where things could have turned out different.

And I’m so so pissed off about what could have been…

This really puts into perspective just what went down with the development of these games and even further establishes that what we have been given isn’t the fault of the developers but rather the fault of the companies themselves telling them to reign it in for the sake of simplicity.

In addition to that there is some interesting insight in the comments section about how Masuda basically quit trying after getting hit with such hard reviews on Black and White by, you guessed it, Gen 1 ppl who didn’t like the way he made it so only all new Pokémon would be used up until postgame where the rest of the Dex would be unlocked. (Among other things)

It’s a shit show stemming from all sides and a reason why I’m not so adamant on a “fave/superior Gen”.

Bc in the end it always ends up fucking up something for everyone else down the line…

DPP we’re my first Pokémon games, Pearl specifically. I loved every moment of it and tbh I only ever beat Cynthia one single time in my many replays of the games. So how am I only just now noticing that in BDSP

I think it's funny how the Pokémon fandom sometimes…. forgets about how there's an entire younger part of the fandom too?

Funniest thing I saw was before Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl came out when the Pokémon YouTube released a trailer introducing Team Galactic. The top comment of the video was this.

And there were lots of other comments all mocking Gamefreak for releasing a trailer about Team Galactic, essentially commenting things like "Everybody knows about that, why would you even show us this."

Except…. Sorry to make people feel ancient, but a ten year old kid interested in playing BDSP when it came out wouldn't have even been born yet when the original Diamond and Pearl came out.

Heck, I was a literal infant when Ruby and Sapphire came out. I had no fucking clue who Team Magma or Team Aqua were around Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire's release. If I had've saw a trailer for them I probably would have been like "Oh wow these guys look cool. I wonder what their deal is." (Actually I probably would more likely have been like "OMG PIRATES!!!!!!!!" And BDSP is post MCU making space look awesome so I can almost guarantee there was at least one kid who was like "OMG SPACE!!!!!!!!!" when they first saw Team Galactic.)

So releasing a trailer for Team Galactic made sense to me because a lot of the target audience probably never heard of them.

(And that's not even getting into the fact that the Pokémon fandom is pretty vicious to anything post Gen 5 despite them being a lot of younger fans' first games.

It was pretty miserable being a young Gen 5 fan in 2013 because everywhere I looked people were calling it the worst game ever and harassing people who enjoyed them. But now history is repeating itself with the newer games and I'm really worried about my youngest brother (who's first game was Sword) interacting with the fandom in the future. Just makes me sad, you know?

I'm just glad his experience of Sword so far was me trading him cool Pokémon, giving him tips on how to beat the Gym Leaders and me pretending to be a Gym Leader and making up a team of Electric Types so he could battle me online with his team and giving him a paper Gym Badge when he won. His favourite Pokémon is Boltund and he has a poster of it from a Pokémon magazine that he has in his bedroom.

He is entirely unaware of all the negativity surrounding Sword and Shield. I hope it stays that way for now. )

I’ve just recently sort of got back into art. I’ve been sketching Dawn over and over again to the point where I’ve got a good feel for her. I might post some of those sketches here later. Dawn is in colored pencil here. She was drawn with those Pilot G2 pens.
