"this animal is actually a precious sweet intelligent angel despite its completely unfair public image as a filthy screeching pest" is well meaning and all but I think respect for wildlife shouldnt be that conditional and nature isn't here to generate feel good tiktoks or look pretty at the zoo. It isn't even here to ecologically benefit us, it doesn't owe us shit! More importantly you should consider that it's great and awesome when an animal is a filthy screeching pest. You should adore that we have a planet of corpse wallowing barf eating poison slobbering louse spreading hairy ghouls and feathered imps. I hope the sky dinosaurs shit on every car in the world every day forever. I'm glad when we paved over the forest and filled the earth with a labyrinth of toilet water we just made a utopian diarrhea playground for creatures that can chew through power cables. Love that there's a type of bat that can cut you in your sleep to slurp your blood and by the way it pisses the entire time, just pisses and pisses because it's filtering the excess water out of your blood. "Oh but it hardly ever goes after humans!" Yeah well guess what?? It should. Oh wolves are just pretty misunderstood pupperoos and not scary fairy tale villains?? Just because it's rare doesn't mean wolves can't be incredibly dangerous and it fucking rules actually. Based fairy tale villains. Get wolfed dummies!!

There's a plentiful supply of nature and ecology writers that criticize "Anthropocentrism" and tell readers that we shouldn't consider ourselves more important than other life forms, and then they write things that are like "We evolved to live in Nature in a Natural environment...Long ago humans lived as hunter-gatherers instead of farming and domesticating animals...But when civilization was created, man unnaturally subjugated and modified plants and animals...Bringing them under human control for his own benefit...Man replaces natural ecosystems with artificially created "post-natural" environments...Now humans live in an unnatural environment that is separated from Nature...and i'm like buddy. do you even hear yourself
Since I have access to a bigger library now, I've explored "deep ecology" and "green anarchism" and "Biocentrism" a bit more and what i've seen is still kinda silly. The writers have very thoughtful theory and philosophy of diverse subjects relating to morality, society, power, and liberation, but...they just don't know very much about Nature.
I mean several things by that: first, they're not clear on the boring, practical details of things like food systems and the way construction alters ecosystems, second, they don't try to clearly define what "nature" is, and third, they act like "nature" has a clear definition anyway.
Now nature is pretty much undefinable anyway, a couple possible definitions are "all things that exist, have existed, or are possible in the universe" and "the thing that a forest has that a parking lot doesn't." You can say "biodiversity," but every space has biodiversity, and it's not clear how much biodiversity a space is "supposed" to have, we're just going on vibes. And the vibes are right, in a way; I visited an old-growth forest and it was DIFFERENT than any place i'd ever been in a way that is hard to describe. A flourishing, biodiverse ecosystem is different than a parking lot, a lawn, a monoculture field of corn. They say it's good for your health to be "in nature." What does that mean? At what point does a place become "nature?" How many trees does it have to have?
Something that is so painful to me is when people write "Human activities" as a cause of biodiversity loss. This is an act of cowardice. WHICH human activities? Name them.
A lot of nature and ecology writings treat humans like they have an anti-biodiversity force field that emanates from them. They write like lands on Earth are each contested between two inversely proportional forces, "Nature" and "Humans."
Without any more information, this is ethereal bullshit on par with crystals having energies. I am totally perplexed at the lack of curiosity about the specific causes and details of "human impacts." The division of habitats by so many roads and relentless speeding of cars with no way for wildlife to cross...the dumping of massive amounts of poison into soils and water...the wounding and disturbance of topsoil...these are the "human activities," but we can imagine a world without such destruction, and we can create that world.
Too many essays and papers talking about Nature non-specifically, an Idea of Nature, a Concept that everyone just intuitively knows. Nature is...you know...wildness! and trees! and...well, you know, NATURE!
And we do know! When we step out into the parking lot surrounded by low, squarish buildings and blaring signs and the stink of car exhaust, we know that something is very wrong with this place! Even we find these horrible un-places harsh and unwelcoming.
But it is very hard to imagine something different, because the other type of place, the place that is beautiful and soothes the spirit and is full of life, is by definition the place where humans only go to visit, the complete opposite and inverse of a place where humans work and live! Wherever humans live, shop, eat, fulfill their daily needs, that place is Not Nature.
The huge mistake, is that we believe that it is necessary to have places that are Not Nature. We believe that for humans to exist, areas must be set aside where the very concept of Nature is utterly obliterated.
From this imaginary and dismal point of view, we have to carefully confine our own lives to places that are utterly poisoned, sterilized, made into a hostile wasteland, and leave all the rest of the living biosphere to itself in pristine preserves.
And in this imaginary and dismal point of view, the one that divides Earth into Nature and Humans, it is okay to poison and to sterilize and to destroy, because humans must live SOMEWHERE, therefore Nature must be utterly excluded from at least SOME of Earth.
BUT...WHAT IF EVERYWHERE IS NATURE? What if the dandelions in the cracks of the pavement, the lichens growing on the park bench, the wildflowers on the side of the road, the sparrows in the parking lot—what if they are all Nature just as much as anything else? What if they too are sacred? What if it is our responsibility to see the connectedness of all life and to care for all ecosystems, however broken and hurt they may be?
What if Nature is not distant and abstract, untouched in some pristine place, but always reaching out, digging into the crumbled concrete and gravel and compacted ground, clawing to return to us and bring us back home?
It does not take away from the value of the old-growth forest or the unplowed prairie if we open our eyes and see even the scraggliest patch of overgrown weeds for the powerful manifestation of Nature it truly is.
Nature is not a place or a thing. Nature is the Movement, the Endless Happening, constantly alive throughout all life, the way of all things being family, the way of all things taking care of each other, the way of all life being constantly transformed through one another. You breathe the breath of the trees of your home, you drink the water of the streams of your home, you eat the sunlight that falls on your home, grown in the soil where all things go to be transformed through death into a new form of life, fed by the mycorrhizal network, pollinated by the bees, wasps, flies, and moths, nourished by the bone, blood and manure of beasts, and ultimately the fertile river valleys where agriculture first began, were replenished by the rich silt that washed down the river, which came from the forests in the mountains that shed their leaves to make a feast for a million decomposing critters, which is how the rich soil is made.
In this way they all take care of you, and in return you are asked to Live—to take care of them in return, to live as part of the great family of everything alive, to live, to live
What are human activities...? Deforestation? Mining? Spraying pesticides? Building housing developments? But is that all? Are we inherently a "bad" and "destructive" species, or is our ability to acquire and pass down knowledge, use tools and novel behaviors, alter our surroundings, shape ecosystems, adapt our lifestyles almost infinitely, and persist in almost any environment, simply incredibly powerful for good or for evil?
First of all, what better way to demonstrate a contrast to anthropocentrism...than to compare the impact of humans alone to the impact of an ENTIRE KINGDOM OF LIFE, the fungi????? Of course all of Fungi are more important than one single species??? Wtf?!?!?
But also, we should not convince ourselves of our own insignificance and worthlessness to the biosphere, because in the same way that individual self-loathing can be a way to avoid the hard work of loving oneself and advocating for the love one deserves, collective self-loathing as a species is a way of avoiding the responsibility we have to other life forms.
How can this author not think of a single role Humans play in the ecosystem?? What species plants trees, saves seeds, documents rare plants, rescues injured animals and heals them, raises orphaned chicks, manages controlled burns, digs ponds, thoughtfully harvests in anticipation of future seasons, mercifully culls in understanding of suffering that cannot be fixed? What species writes a new chapter in the genome of the American Chestnut so it can be saved from extinction? What species mends the broken kakapo egg with sticky tape? What species addresses their own habitat with that fondest name of Home?

Saw more people talking about Tonis and what his deal could be in S2 based on what’s already established about him during the first few episodes he was introduced in and that concept art of an older version of him Kenji Muto posted on his twitter a while back which, one, I’m so freaking happy about, this and the other concepts artworks he posted aren’t talked about nearly enough, and two, I have more thoughts to add on to it so let’s get into them.
With how useful the Wams are, besides the fact that they have strength in numbers and size and can either fly across the sky or travel underneath the sand, their abilities are especially useful in information gathering and sabotage, as they are able to mimic other lifeforms from birds (I like to think that the vulture-like bugs that hung around Vash in episode 1 weren’t a thing to begin with since the only other birds we’ve seen so far are Tomas which were confirmed to be biologically engineered by humans) to humans (seeing as Zazie looks so convincingly like a human kid that they were able to fool Meryl and the only thing that physically set them apart from humans when they assumed a human form was a buzzing noise that humans aren’t even able to pick up in the first place) and relay images (as seen with how Zazie summoned a swarm or bacteria-sized Wams that formed the image of the planet Earth and its wildlife during their talk with Meryl in July), they are able to telepathically connect and communicate to each other, and are able to administer poison as implied by the stingers that some of them have been shown to have that I think is what Wolfwood spat out after he plucked a Wam out of midair and ate it raw and the fact that they’ve been confirmed to be what’s in those cigarettes Wolfwood and Roberto have been smoking in place of tobacco meaning that it contains either nicotine or a toxic, addictive drug with both stimulant and depressant effects like it
(Kenji Muto actually talked about in this post depicting this piece of concept art of Zazie that their scarf is actually another kind of Wam whose stinger is very poisonous, making it good for both a means of attack and defense),
Knives and the EoM would surely find an alternative way to keep the Wams under their thumb now that Zazie’s (and the Wams as a whole) alliance with Knives is seemingly implied to have dissolved following what had gone down in July, what with them clearly panicking about the roots, vines, and flowers from Vash’s gate that were gradually covering the entire city and even just about the rest of the planet, so much so that Wolfwood commented on it,
and them saying how they didn’t understand the fact that humanity made Vash out to be the villain behind Lost July,
and one way that they could do that is include the Wams as another species besides Plants they experiment on in for their eugenics research.
(Sidenote, I also like to think that Zazie made it clear to the EoM they were no longer on their side and would no longer do any favors for them when they were asked to locate Vash, which of course the EoM would do, seeing as it wouldn’t be all that difficult for them to do, what with them even having gone so far as to refer to themselves as the planet itself, only for them to refuse to do so, maybe in part as a sort of thanks to Vash for saving the planet and almost everyone on it back in July by letting him rest and relax and recover as much as he could for as long as he could with Lina after everything he’s gone though and in part as a sort of precaution seeing as since he’s seems to have lost his memories and is in no condition to leave Lina’s hometown and live on his own, much less get himself into trouble, then that means he’s out of the way for the time being.
Also, that just makes me think that they may have a part in Vash being found and brought out of hiding since with the incoming arrival of Chronica and Project Pieces of Earth fleets and possibly rumors of Knives being brought back from the grave might force them to reveal Vash’s location since he was the one who put a stop to the shit another Independent Plant pulled two years ago so he might be the only one who can put a stop to whatever either of these two plan to pull this time around two years later.)
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Conrad has tried or will try to do something like that since Wams are the natives species of No Man’s Land, at least the only ones we know of so far, so they’re more than capable of withstanding the harsh environment of the planet without the help of Plants. Actually, I kind of wouldn’t be surprised if Zazie was kind of interested in that kind of thing, since they’ve shown a genuine interest in seeing why and how they can coexist alongside Plants or humans, and agreed to allocate a couple of Wams to him for this reason.
Now onto Tonis, now that I think about it more I could see him getting roped into the EoM, seeing as Jeneora Rock has not only lost its’ Plants but also was cut to pieces by Knives, leaving him and his mother and the rest of the townspeople not only heavily injured from the collapse of his hometown, with him being down to one arm, but also homeless with little to none of the basic necessities they need to survive left, and then there’s also how, assuming his mother hadn’t suffered from a miscarraige during or after what went down in Jeneora Rock, his mother would not only have to take care of and provide for him and herself, but also his soon to be born younger sibling. That’s a lot to deal with to say the very least.
Baby supplies are expensive and babies themselves are a lot to deal with as is, but buying baby supplies and raising a baby when they both lost their home, lost people, were suffering from PTSD, and were suffering from major injuries ON NO MAN’S LAND my god, that’s just-that’s SO MUCH. And it sounds like the perfect set up for him to fall right into the hands of the EoM, I mean, didn’t Wolfwood in Trimax go with the EoM thinking that he’d be building churches for them in exchange for being able to provide for himself and the orphanage, so Tonis could be led to follow the same thought process.
Besides that he just looks so much older in the concept art compared to his first appearance in S1 that I saw some people wondering just how long the timeskip would be, but there doesn’t need to be a long timeskip for him to look that old, he just needs to be subjected to the same or at least similar experiments Rollo, Livio, and Nico had been subjected to and he’ll end up looking like that in around six months and then with the EoM having access to lost tech they could hook him up with a prosthetic arm similar to Vash’s which could be why they share a similar silhouette.
Also, Zazie’s 98 counterpart was a normal human kid who happened to have a device that allowed him to hijack worms to do whatever he ordered them to do, and their Trimax counterpart was a human who happened to have their body hijacked by worms and did whatever they wanted them to do, so maybe Tristamp could pull something similar with Tonis.
And and, there are a couple of spots on the GHG so to speak with EG the Mine and Monev the Gale out of the picture, now they could have just done that to allow for more room to focus on the remaining GHG that haven’t appeared yet like Midvalley, Hoppered, Dominique, Leonof, and to an extent Livio, Legato, and Elendira, but they could also have done that to come up with new members to fill those empty slots, they did it in 98 with Caine, then again they didn’t bring in Livio and Elendira but still.
Not to mention, someone on twitter here pointed out how Tonis is repeatedly shown time and time again with something that has to do with catching Wams in his hands, like the cage filled with Wams he shows off to Vash and then to Gosef in Rosa’s bar, and the net he’s seen holding whenever he’s on his own like when he encounters Meryl and Roberto in the cliffside, which while it could just be something to show how much he’s into Wams, and maybe to foreshadow how Wams make for a really good alternative resource in place of Plants as addressed in episode 4, it could also be foreshadowing a potential confrontation between him and Zazie.
I still like my previous theory about Tonis where he got his prosthetic arm from Father Nebraska as thanks for pulling Gosef out of the rubble and sparing the both of them some medical supplies as seen in a quick shot of them being one of the injured near the end of episode 3 since it looks like Vash’s prosthetic arm if it was made out of scrap metal instead of lost tech by a No Man’s Land resident than a first generation SEEDS crew member, Father Nebraska was even seated right across from Vash in the table which I’m sure would be able to afford him a good view of his arm, not to mention, he could have also seen him showing off his cage full of Wams to Gosef in the background, and Gosef’s arm was mentioned to be designed to catch Wams so he’d put two and two together and figured it’d be fitting especially since Tonis wasn’t as squirmy with Wams like Gosef was and Zazie possibly taking him under his wing for whatever reason but I’ll admit I’m quickly growing attached to this new theory and when it comes down to it I’m just really excited to see what going to go down in S2 when its finally released. @tristampparty

Eggman is pretty much fascism and unchecked capitalism in human form. He is a repersantion of it they way Sonic is the representation of freedom.
In the games we get to see glimpses of the world under Eggy's rule and it is not pretty. Even in the first game, Eggman's scrap brain zone is a polluted dystopian hellhole, smog and poison everywhere. Meanwhile green hill zone is a lush paradise full of greenery.
In Sonic CD, we can see even his own robots suffer in the bad futures. They looks broken , neglected and musty. He doesn't even care about his bots. So much for a robot kingdom 🤖👑
Don't get me started on Forces where he fully takes over the earth and turns it into a bleak, broken hellhole and spews propaganda everywhere. Everyone is miserable. He even made a propaganda vid where he encourages people to accept his robotomy treatment and become his robot slaves to make life bearable.(Robots don't need food , water or clean air to breathe. They don't even think)
Benevolent dictatorship it is not. I don't know where people get that from.
Exactly, for it being such a prominent theme in the series, I wish more people would get the message and not dismiss it/miss the point and try to say "Eggman is good, actually". It's much more interesting to look at it for what it is, it's what makes Sonic vs Eggman and Eggman's goals compelling to me to analyze. Eggman is a great representation of the terrible and harmful things humanity can be capable of but without completely blaming the entire human race.
He portrays the dangers of fascism, damage of the environment, and the dangerous destructive lengths one can go to in greed for power and control. There's been many examples of him attempting to captilize on harmful things, carelessly tearing the planet/other planets apart in selfish endeavors, and how dystopian the world would be if he succeeded in enforcing his order. They've explored propaganda, manipulation, war, and invasion with him.
Ignoring the message of Eggman's character also downplays, softens the impact of, and dismisses the meaning of Sonic's character. He's all about freedom and the only thing he hates is oppression, Eggman is the oppressor of the story and Sonic wants to stop him, that way people can live in peace and freedom without Eggman stripping that away from them and forcing them to be and do exactly and only what he wants in the world he wants it to be alone.
It's cool because Eggman is also like an example of if you take your own personal freedom and desires too far with greed and a lust for power and control. To the point that you value it and yourself so much above all else, you want to force everyone else to comply by your rules and fulfill your desires, no matter how much they don't want it and it damages them and the world around you. Meanwhile, Sonic's just happens to benefit the world and people around him.
And in a world where Sonic wins, it stays beautiful, bright, lively and free with nature, wildlife, man, and technology coexisting in harmony and peace. In a world where Eggman wins you get the opposite where it's ugly, dark, dead, and controlled with nature and wildlife suffocated until it's dead- replaced by technology and reshaped in Eggman's selfish image and twisted idea of what a "perfect" world is, one where only he decides what it's like.
It shows through their characteristics, actions and outlook, and their impact on the world and people around them and that's so fucking neat. I don't know why people act like that stopped being a theme when, as long as it's Sonic vs Eggman, it's definitely always present. But I feel that a part of it is absolutely the way that people try to make it seem like Eggman isn't so bad and suggest the idea that maybe he's actually really progressive and wants to do good.
It's very clear that he doesn't lol. Such is obvious by the lengths he's willing to go to get what he wants, knowingly and carelessly hurting many people and even finding sadistic enjoyment in it at other times, all the while acknowledging that he's evil and saying it himself and owning it. He knows he has to create propaganda, lie, and manipulate others into getting what he wants and further his plans which also proves full awareness that what he's doing isn't innocent.
And of course the most obvious is how the world under his control is most often depicted as a dark industrial dead and polluted dystopian hellhole where all suffer, even his own creations, and he doesn't care because he's in control and gets to rule over it and turn it into everything he wants. And their suffering is just part of the idea, which he makes clear with his own words with Eggmanland in Unleashed and the Interstellar Park in Colors, in that he wants people to suffer.
There are times this isn't shown visually in a places of his creation and under his control, such as the Interstellar Park and Ego City. But guess what? There's still tons of danger and death due to attractions in the Interstellar park that he acknowledged and intended as features, and the PAs in Ego City with the propaganda and lies about the intention and "benefits" of animals in robots and the hint that he doesn't actually take criticism- all prove his real sinister intent in it.
It shows that Eggman can also pretty things up and sugarcoat them with visually beautiful creations, sweet words and promises of great things through lies and propaganda. That's scary because it can lure people in, only for them to be subjected to great horrors once they arrive, even if nobody and maybe not even themselves can see and realize it's all a lie and the cost that is their suffering at first, until it's too late and they face it in the most terrible and painful of ways.
And the truth would show visually eventually anyway, evident in Eggmanland's darker polluted setting. Even to the point of further destruction and decay, like CD bad future where even his own creations are broken down and abandoned. He'll destroy the world to build his new one yet even that will rot due to his carelessness as long as it doesn't get in the way of his own enjoyment, he'll use things up and abandon them when they no longer serve him.
In Forces he wants to burn the world so it will be "nothing but ashes, from which a glorious Eggman Empire will rise," willing to cause great damage to get it. That's why he happily blew up Sunset Heights, let Green Hill be dehydrated and die, had forests carpet bombed, and was willing to drop the sun on people. Hell, in the Join the Eggman Empire propaganda video, he promotes further ruination and pollution of the world after he's taken over as a good appealing thing.
And the real reason why is because it will push anyone that's still unwilling after all his attempted lies and propaganda to give in and accept the robotomy treatment, so they don't have to suffer in it anymore because they won't have a choice because it'll be that or die. But with it they'll also have to give up all their freedom and never be able to eat, sleep, or think ever again and Eggman will tell them "that's what we call "living the good life!"
And again, him saying that loving it is mandatory in the video proves he doesn't care how much it hurts people and how much they'll really hate it. He knows full well but doesn't care because it's not about what they want, it's all about him and what he wants and they have no choice or say, they literally have to comply or die. And fuuuck it's so good and messed up. That perfectly represents how terrible and dangerous and harmful his dictatorship is.
Besides the whole "what if he actually cared and genuinely wanted to help people and the world though" which this all clearly disproves, I also see people say they'd like to become robots so they don't think it's so bad. And it's like well fascist dictatorship doesn't suddenly become a good thing just because some of it personally aligns with your desires lol. Authoritarianism doesn't suddenly become good just because it's enforcing your personal morals and values.
I highly doubt anyone would still be saying this if they it really happened and they realized how much they'd sacrifice in it and what they'd have to go through as Eggman clearly doesn't treat his creations well, whether it's through abusing them or just leaving them to decay like those seen in CD bad future. And let's say even if was good for you personally in some way, it wouldn't be for everyone and most people would still suffer because they don't want it.
And let's say your biggest dream came true through it. It's still being enforced through Eggman's fascism and oppression and many will suffer from it and have to abide by it against their will. It's like how Eggman tried to bribe Sonic in the great Super Sonic and Super Eggman Sonic Channel story by saying he could give him a world of chili dogs, no paradise is one that is forced, no matter how pretty and appealing one tries to make it seem.
And in Eggman's case it's not just that but the fact his "paradise" is everyone else's hell, his enjoyment is everyone else's pain, his desires are the antithesis of freedom. Because he's deeply selfish and intends and revels in much of the damage and suffering he causes. It's inherently sinister, harmful, and only his twisted definition of a perfect paradise that serves only himself with his selfishness and self-centeredness that he can't and doesn't care to see past.
He's one fucked up bastard and that makes him so interesting and threatening, he's the main villain of the series for a reason. 💜 It's really interesting to think about the themes he represents and the many different ways they've been portrayed and explored throughout the series and the message it sends just as much as Sonic's, I wish to see more acknowledgement and discussion of it so I try my best to bring light to it with my own contributions like this!
#I looove analysis like this I looove the themes. man#dr eggman#eggman#dr robotnik#dr. eggman#asks#analysis#my post

hhi could i. could i ask if you have any portal ford headcanons im being insane about him right now and your headcanons are So 💥‼️🎉🌈💥/pos
hi hello hows it goin
-he didn't get all of his tattoos in one sitting, and he actually has a few he gave to himself. some of the tattoos look like normal earth tattoos, but theres also a few that have cool effects to them. color-changing, moving slightly, shapeshifting from one creature to another, etc. etc.
-he gave himself a little sailboat tattoo in case he ever lost the photo. he also gave himself an axolotl after he met Jheselbraum
-when he was fresh into the portal, hed join other interdimensional travelers, make companions...he stopped after a while because the grief he felt every time he inevitably lost them became too much. he still misses the ones he did have, though. he gave himself a constellation tattoo to remember them- a star for each one.
-he has perhaps too many tattoos. most of them end up being covered up by scars, though
-speaking of scars- ford lost his right arm sometime while he was in the portal. An "anomaly" bit it off. He has a prosthetic now (in the future, he's going to keep forgetting to mention this to stan. which is. definitely not going to cause any problems at all (sarcastic))
-he has several scars that either look weird (slightly glow-in-the-dark, shimmers, etc.) or healed in strange patterns because they were caused by weapons very much not intended to interact with human flesh
-he has a lot of "speckle" scars all over him. theyre from corrosive rain
-Jheselbraum has been thoroughly established as a sort of secondary mother figure in his mind. She has also been given this role by many, many other versions of Ford. she is the space mom
-he once met a moth version of himself who borrowed a gun from him and never gave it back. hes still upset about that. no, he has not realized the connection
-he once held a full conversation with another version of stan without noticing who he was talking to. in his defense, it was dark out
-at some point, he developed a tapetum lucidum and nictitating membranes. this is the incredibly self-indulgent biology-hyperfixation-induced headcanon
-he thinks he can handle smoke and toxic air better because of how much time hes spent not being able to breathe properly. its actually made him more sensitive to things like that
-he has gotten better at not being poisoned though. this comes from years of eating random mushrooms and plants and bug-adjacent creatures. this doesnt apply to raw meat as much, but he can definitely handle it better than most other humans
-every now and then, the hyperfixation excitement will outweigh how horrible he feels all the time and he'll just end up staring at some sort of weird creature and taking mental notes about it for a really long time
-sometimes he'll name random creatures he sees just to kill time. waiting for your food to finish cooking? give your local fish-bird-thing a name
-he doesnt know this, but hes actually seen a few creatures that are considered cryptids in those dimensions
-his favorite dimensions are the ones filled with wildlife and starry skies and vibrant colors. theyre not nearly as common as youd think they are
-hes gotten more used to speaking non-earth languages than earth-languages. as such, hes started using lots of phrases that have...interesting translations in english
-he forgets how to speak sometimes. it used to be more distressing, but he doesnt typically come across many creatures that can understand language anyway. its more of an annoyance than anything at this point
-hes gotten really good at mimicking the calls of other creatures. really good. possibly too good (he will use this power for evil in the future. to terrorize his brother with seagull noises)
-this is technically post-portal, but he adapts the creatures hes seen into homebrew enemies and races in his DD&MD campaigns
-also post-portal, but he'll sometimes forget that that weird thing hes looking at is. yknow. weird and not just a normal part of life in this dimension. this is one of the two reasons why he asks stan to point out anomalies to him

Excerpt from this story from Hakai Magazine:
Francis “Bully” Mission Sr., president and founder of Mission Animal Control, is in a good mood when I meet him at a strip mall parking lot on the south side of the Hawaiian island of Kaua‘i. He and his son Levi have just found two “squeakers”—pigs no more than a few months old—in one of their traps, which means US $100 in their pockets and another satisfied customer. Property owners all over the island hire the duo to remove problem animals, and Bully has invited me to join him as he collects the new captives.
“We had a big mama yesterday and three juveniles,” he tells me as I climb into his pickup truck. “The population is unbelievable.”
Inside the cab, I notice what appears to be Old MacDonald’s entire farm glued to the dashboard: a plastic cat, a couple of horses, a cow, and three pigs. These are all species that humans have brought to the Hawaiian islands and that the Mission family is often hired to eliminate. Feral pigs, once denizens of the mountains with intermittent forays to lower elevations, have become regular raiders of lowland farms, upscale neighborhoods, and members-only golf courses. “Some of them look like you could put a saddle on them and ride them,” Bully says of the pigs he’s seen.
Pigs can now be found on six of Hawai‘i’s seven inhabited islands, and their impacts are especially profound on Kaua‘i, the lush “Garden Island,” which has so far retained much of its native character. Its mountains are home to 255 unique native plant species and 208 native birds, including 11 found nowhere else on Earth. As the pigs tear up vegetation, they encourage erosion and muddy the island’s drinking water supplies. Their wallows breed mosquitoes that spread avian malaria, contributing to 10 of Kaua‘i’s 16 native honeycreepers going extinct. They also spread the seeds of the strawberry guava tree in their dung, contributing to what one group of researchers has referred to as an “invasional meltdown.” The guava shades out native plants and smothers them in its leaves.
The pigs’ presence in the populated lowlands has grown over the last couple of decades. Sally Rizzo, who was running an organic farm during my visit, told me that the pigs broke through her fence this year and “shit all over our baby greens.” On the roads, drivers frequently have to swerve to avoid pigs, leading to several hundred accidents every year. Beaches aren’t safe either. Three years ago, a tusked boar made headlines when it went for a swim and thrashed a surfer in the lineup off Oahu, another island. On oceanside bluffs, meanwhile, the pigs are preying on the chicks of migratory seabirds, so completely trashing their burrow nests that the birds never return to them again.
Despite the damage that feral pigs are causing, you can’t just shoot them on sight as you can in many other US states. In Texas, home to more than one-third of the seven million feral pigs in the United States, hunters and landowners target them from helicopters or with poison baits. On Hawai‘i, however, pigs occupy a more complicated position, as their populations are managed for both recreation and subsistence. Along with West Virginia, Hawai‘i is one of two states with bag limits on public land. This means that while conservationists are trying to reduce or eliminate pig populations inside protected areas, the Hawai‘i Division of Forestry and Wildlife manages the animal as a limited resource just about everywhere else.

Which one of your oc’s would go on a hike with me, and how difficult would it be to drag v along with me?
Mmm 8/10 difficult for V 4 if you're wearing shorts
Liu goes hiking every year in fall right before the temperatures become to cold for their body to take. They would be absolutely esthetic to go hiking with you. They'd carry all your supplies and even you if you get too tired or can't catch up. Them in nature is like letting a puppy free at the park. If you travel to the same location they go, they can even introduce you to their papa and have their two favorite people meet...his grave sight at least
Mono would enjoy hiking whether it's on some alien world or earth. They'd do their research, but look to you for information about local wildlife and the like. They play ignorant to get you to take the lead - but will pick you up and carry you the rest of the way if they see anything poisonous in your path
Alien would frame it as an alien hunt. They crack their back and let their glow-stick bones lead the way. Most animals are absolutely terrified of them so you don't have to worry about any danger besides this idiot getting you lose somehow. They would indeed freak out but the panic of being alone with your darling is kinda romantic if you ask him. You should definitely make out.... So what if the road is right there.
In the brief moments of family fun time they used to have, Erin, Ben and Spencer used to sneak away when they went on holiday vacation and walk around in the forest behind the house. Spence is the only one who would bring up going on a hike before you but none of the boys would say no. Their father wouldn't either
Dea would never say no to an outing with you and makes certain that the weather is perfect for you and I do mean that in the literal sense. They also pack/make enough snacks for a village
Screamscicle has a map to all the human towns the forest surrounding theirs links to and will take you to the closest. Wed be here all day if I added more scenes so other characters I can think of are Licorice Milk, Eggnog, Pin, Maddox, Baron, Callie, Gus, RootBeer Milk, Strawberry Milk, etc

Metaphorically poisoned gifts? In the original G1 cartoon, it's revealed that the Quints actually did that to a lot of other planets. One planet had the misfortune of having it's ecosystem destroyed by heavy pollution caused by the tech the Quintessons gave them, only to have the Quints give them robo-plants at a high price, or propagate thousand year wars. I could feasibly see this happening with Earth in that the Quintessons end up either giving Earth advanced tech that ends up accelerating the effect of human caused climate change or causing a hot war between two major world powers. I think the former might be more likely to happen because of Earthspark's emphasis on the wonder of the natural world (it's been a part of a few episodes, notably Bumblebee bonding with Alex over a tree stump, the bear episode, the fact that the Terrans are interested in the wildlife around them, etc). Either that or we have the Quintessons dumping toxic waste on Witwicky out of spite. A literal poisoned "gift".
Damnnnn yeah it makes perfect sense
I too feel like the pollution route is the way the Quintessons will go, though I can vividly see them trying to start shit between humans and cybertronians. Especially considering the possible effects of energon on organic wildlife we saw... Y e a h.
They would do that
They would give humans literally poisoned gifts too
#maccadam#transformers#transformers earthspark#Quintessons#tfe alex malto#tfe bumblebee#I'm thinking we're gonna see so many fucked up creatures in the future#whether they were created that way or not#i do feel like the Quintessons would definitely give technology that produces very dangerous waste#also just. in general show a total disregard for everything around them#shit's gonna go WILD

sooo I wrote… something about the stars. I dunno if it’s good or not
please be nice
Our stars have witnessed civilization be created, watched great empires rise and fall over and over again. I wonder, do they look down with pride in how far we’ve come, or in dismay as we tear each other down into ruins again and again and again
Are they hopeful each time that we’ll have learned our lesson, hopeful for a different outcome, or do they watch in fear as we begin again, fearing that the outcome will be different this time. That this time we will destroy ourselves to thoroughly to ever get up again.
We have destroyed everything we have ever claimed as ours. Forests torn down, rivers dammed, wildlife slaughtered. Ecosystems shattered. We upset our only protection from the harsh reprimands of the sun with our arrogance, we violated the sacred balance of the flora and the fauna in our greed. We have doomed the sanctuary for life for some meaningless numbers.
The stars watched life form and humans evolve
The stars watched the first sparks of flame and the first sparks of civilization
The stars watched great empires be forged, and the same stars watched as they fell
The stars watched as we proclaimed we were better than what came before
The stars watched as blood soaked the ground
The stars watch as we slowly poison our earth with the materials she trusted us with
The stars watch as we doom the butterflies and the dolphins to die with us
The stars will watch as our empires fall for the last time
The stars will watch as the earth falls silent

Letter to the Canadian Government about Mandatory Human Rights and Environment Due Diligence Laws
Our names are ______. We are from ______. We are writing to you to ask that you create good Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence laws for all companies operating in, selling goods or services in, or headquartered in Canada. This will help workers, communities, and ecosystems around the world and contribute to the creation of a fair world where current people and future generations have what they need.
Right now, companies are doing horrific human rights abuses and environmental abuses all around the world.
First of all, workers are being horrifically overworked and incredibly underpaid in intensely dangerous working conditions. Three million workers die every year due to workplace accidents or poisoning. Fifty million people are literally being held in modern slavery. Ten percent of children worldwide are doing child labour. Two thirds of the world are in multidimensional poverty, where they don’t have five or more of their basic needs (such as food and sanitation and education) met. Forget living wages, most workers are not even paid bare subsistence wages. And experts have described working conditions as soul-destroying for workers around the world.
Local communities around factories and plantations and power plants and mines and whatnot are also being polluted. Chemicals from industrial developments leach into the ground, air, and water, poisoning people, destroying crops and plants, and killing local fish and wildlife. This leads to many people dying from being poisoned or losing their livelihoods. People lose their access to clean water and air, to food, and to life.
And the environment is being harmed by industrial activities too. We are at the start of the worst biodiversity crisis the earth has ever faced. Ecosystems all around the world are collapsing, and will continue to collapse. Not to mention, the climate is warming and causing devastation for people the world over. All humans rely on a healthy climate and healthy ecosystems for fertile soil, clean water, safety from extreme weather, pest and disease control, and the list goes on. But it is the actions of industry, companies, and supply chains that are the biggest contributor to the climate and biodiversity crises.
And often, when people stand up for the air and water and land, when they stand up for their communities and/or their fellow workers, they are threatened, intimidated, or even killed.
The companies that are headquartered in Canada or sell their products in Canada are benefitting from and causing all these problems. Their supply chains are rife with human rights abuses and environmental abuses, and they do not take adequate measures to stop the many abuses in their supply chains. Because of this, Canada and all Canadians are guilty of destroying the world and uncountable lives.
But a better world is possible. Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence Laws, or Mandatory Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Laws, or whatever you want to call them, would ensure that any companies that abuse the workers, local communities, and local environments tied to their supply chains are made to pay. Not just made to pay a fine, which companies don’t mind and only view as a cost of doing business, but actually made to face justice and jail time.
These laws are necessary in order to ensure that workers and other people are given the human rights and human dignity they deserve, and they are necessary in order to protect the world’s ecosystems so that future generations can live. Without due diligence laws, the situation will continue to get worse and worse. But with due diligence laws, we can see improvement.
Please enact Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence Laws.

BOOK REVIEW: Cage of Souls, by Adrian Tchaikovsky
May 22, 2019
Alex Hormann
The sun is dying. The Earth is all but dead. The last of humanity is clustered in a single city, as corrupt as it is vulnerable. But Stefan Advani has bigger problems. . .
I’ll cut straight to the point. Cage of Souls is the best book I have read so far this year. It’s bleak, depressing, brutal and with barely a drop of hope contained within its numerous pages. But that doesn’t subtract from the fact that it is vivid, wildly imagined and utterly brilliant. For some reason I thought this was going to be a novella, and I am so glad it turned out to be a full-length novel. Because the story and idea within really need that extra depth and investigation.
We open with our narrator being shipped off to an island prison for vague crimes against the state. Cowardly and well-educated, Advani relies on both of these traits to keep himself alive. A task not made easier by dangerous wildlife, murderous inmates and a tyrannical Marshal who’d rather see the whole lot of them dead. The prison itself is as dangerous as any of the prisoners. A rusting mass of pumps and cages that appears to serve no purpose other than to get people killed.
Tchaikovsky’s future Earth is a uniformly bleak one. Outside the prison and the lone city of Shadrapar, the world is all but uninhabitable. There are deserts that will burn you, jungles that will poison and eat you, and a toxic, plastic-choked sea that holds only death. It’s a world that has turned against humanity, a fact that most of the human race appears to have accepted. We have become a species that no longer looks to the future, because there probably won’t be one. A sense of darkness pervades the entire book that’s enough to keep you up at night, and give you nightmares even if you do drift off.
As he settles in to prison life, Advani slowly reveals the events that led to his incarceration. As you’d expect, it’s not exactly happy reading. But it’s a change of pace that keeps you reading for just one more page. And then one more chapter. And then the whole book. These flashbacks to Shadrapar’s more cultured life are so far removed from prison life that they almost seem to be from another book. But rather than being disjointed, this only amplifies the sense of loss that fills the narrative.
One of the things I enjoyed most was the use of book-as-artefact. That is to say, Advani’s memoir exists within the world of the book. It adds another layer to the story, knowing that he himself considered the events important enough to record in text. While this technique lets the reader know the narrator survives, it allows for more intimacy than a regular first-person narrative. Playing with the unreliable narrator, while also directly addressing the reader, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the style used quite so well.
While I wouldn’t go so far as to call the book a wake-up call or use that dreaded word ‘timely’, the world is definitely informed by the ongoing conversation around the climate crisis we are currently facing. I can’t say that the book is an accurate depiction of where our species is heading (and I certainly hope the future can be a little brighter) it’s a worrying-enough possibility to make you think. Think, and fear. It would be easy for a setting like this to become nihilistic, but Tchaikovsky avoids that pitfall. Instead the book reads more sombrely. Like a lament for the future of human civilisation.
Adrian Tchaikovsky is one of Britain’s greatest living SF writers, and here he is on the top of his game. A serious contender for book of the year.

Touched by an Angel.... or a Celebrity?
Have you ever wondered what makes a star a star? Why they give out stars for the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, why talent scouts search for 'that star quality' or why one guy sells out stadiums while the other can't fill out a coffee house?
I used to wonder.
Not anymore.
I could tell you I learned the truth by studying the subject for ten years, but I'd be lying. Oh! I have studied the subject for ten years, but most of what I know is from first-hand interactions with the red-carpet world. Or, to be more specific, I'm involved with the powers-that-be in Hollywood- the ones who run the show, keep the glitz and make the glamour.
And it's not what you think.
But once you know, things start to make a lot of sense. The world isn't so confusing anymore. And you start to see the magic at work all around us - little things we take for granted. But would be miserable without them.
If it were up to the Devil, the Earth would be scorched- a poisonous sulphur landscape blackened and without life.
But it isn't. Earth has forests, flower beds, healthy crops and stunning mountain ranges with glorious sunsets. Oh, we humans have certainly harmed the Earth, hunting its most amazing wildlife into extinction, but we aren't the only ones running the show.
Oh no. We are not alone
_
The truth is, angels are among us. They can take any human form they'd like. Some are good. Some are bad. And here on Earth, the split between the two is 50/50.
You may have heard that a third of the Angels fell when Satan rebelled against the God of the Angel Armies. But what you haven't heard is this:
• A third of the Angels remain in heaven. They are the stars that watch us from above. All of them are faithful to the Lord. They are ruled by Enoch, a prophet-turned-angel wrote wrote the very first book of the original Bible: the Book of Enoch. In some texts he is known as Metatron after he becomes an angelic leader in the heavens.
• A third of the Angels are called the Fallen. Yes! That's right! Only 33% of all angels fell, meaning Satan's is in the minority. These Fallen Angels are down here on Earth, living among us and in the dark places, like the bottom of the ocean, dark caves, etc. Some will even possess humans. Either way, the Fallen Angels don't have much Authority. Their Authority died when they rebelled against the Throne. Instead they must get permission from the Lord to make any kind of move. And thus, to their abject horror and dismay, they end up carrying out the Lord's judgment against their own followers, and strengthening their enemies through attacks fashioned just so! So that the attack acts as training for the Lord's faithful.
• The final third of angels remain faithful to the Lord too, but they're bound to Earth as well, counteracting the evil angels banished to this soil. These obedient angels garden the Earth, keeping time, keeping the calendar, guiding the seasons and the elements, feeding the rivers, instructing hibernation, waking the trees and putting them to sleep in winter. You can categorize their ranks by the order of nature, from the wind to the sea to the rivers to the rain, each is ruled by an army of angels across the Earth.
_
Now here's the interesting part: angels can have babies with humans. And these are the bloodlines that form many of the Royals around the world as well as many celebrity families.
Thousands of years ago our celebrities would have been called gods in many cases. But the truth is much more simple: angels walk among us and they are glorious. And their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren walk among us too. And those boodlines shine.
They shine whether you see them walking in a mall or on the big screen or on the small screen. They stick out in a crowd. They glow and sparkle. People tend to gravitate towards them or look up to them. We use cosmetics to try and look like them. Have you seen what drugstore makeup looks like? It looks like stardust in all sorts of shapes and sizes, liquid to powder.
But those who don't need makeup sparkle anyway, don't they? They shine like a star for a reason. Stars are angels. And certain bloodlines have angelic DNA.
Me? I can't have children. But I am in love with many angels, most of whom I met through Hollywood.
And now we've left, living on a different coast. Hollywood has had to kill off most of my angel's plotlines as a result.
But we have a battle to fight.
The Last Battle.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
This film was very interesting but I actually did enjoy watching it. The overall plot was very unique and a bit odd, but the storyline was developed very well and it was pretty easy to comprehend what was going on the entire time. In the anime, Nausicaa tries to protect the Valley of the Wind and the Sea of Decay from Tolmekia and people who want to destroy the Sea of Decay. During her time trying to save the Sea of Decay, Nausicaa finds out something extremely important. The Earth is the reason the forest is poisonous, and when spores and other parts of the forest are taken out and grown in a safe environment, they are not toxic. It was thought that the poisonous forest was just filled with harmful spores and also home to the Ohmu, which are abnormally large insects. But the forest is actually cleaning out the environment and the Ohmu have a huge role in that, yet some people do not see it that way and still want to terminate it. The point of this anime is to represent how in the environment and nature, everything has its own role and it is important to leave animals and natural environments alone, instead of trying to alter them. Also, it shows how pollution and human damage to the environment is detrimental to nature and if it continues, the world will become a dangerous place. It is essential to preserve animals and plants that wildlife need in order to succeed and be healthy. I personally can not relate to this anime due to my lack of involvement in environmental issues and my lack of understanding. I was never really into nature or anything in that aspect, so I have a lack of knowledge regarding the whole situation. Overall, this anime was interesting but it was also entertaining, and I am happy I got the chance to watch it.

The young giant had an amazing back story and for as long as he could remember his only goal in life had been to not only break every record going but to totally dwarf and annihilate anything humanity had ever achieved. His family were secretly relieved when at the age of just 13, and already well over 150’ tall he cut off all ties with them and refused to acknowledge that such weak, boring people could have anything to do with such a godly, powerful being as him. He was going to play by his own rules and the rest of the world would have to follow him. The backlash against the family had been enormous, as even at that young age his mere existence had already plagued the neighbourhood for years and destroyed the city they lived in. Homes and businesses were in ruins, roads were impassable. He liked to bathe in the reservoir after a run and had made the water supply undrinkable. Even back then, before he’d had some of his epic growth spurts he could easily get through $1 million worth of food every day. He was obsessed with his fitness and physique, already considered himself some kind of vastly superior species that would make the whole of humanity serve him. He’d already got used to and expected leaders and decision makers to simply give in to his demands, no matter how ridiculous they were or difficult to meet. They soon learnt saying no to him was a bad idea. He was already causing global supply issues, he’d think nothing of chugging down a tanker full of 60000 raw eggs, and his insatiable appetite for protein meant that he ate astronomical amounts of meat every day. In the end it became so impractical to prepare it he simply ate it raw, and sometimes still alive, he didn’t give a fuck about animal welfare, it was all just fuel for his body. He emptied truck after truck into his mouth, and if some of the delivery workers happened to fall in he loved the extra crunch. Sometimes he even ate the trucks.
The military learned in an attempt to drug him and control him that his hyper developed metabolism meant that he could eat or drink pretty much anything and he’d be completely unharmed. His body would use anything it wanted and just get rid of anything it didn’t. Of course, their biggest mistake was teaching him that he had this amazing ability in the process, and he was like a kid in a sweet shop, drinking all kinds of chemicals, acids, poisons, and pretty much turning himself into a walking biohazard. He once downed over 250000 gallons of alcohol in a single evening, long before he should have been old enough to buy it just to see if it gave him a buzz. It did nothing, but after he took a leak and flooded a nearby wildlife reserve so much alcohol seeped into the water table that nearly half a million people in a city a few miles down the road died of alcohol poisoning because it got into their drinking water. His favourite party trick was to down a few tankers worth of fuel and then belch out flames reaching hundreds of feet from his mouth, like some gigantic flame thrower. Even his sweat was like a toxic soup, depending on what he’d been consuming, seeping deep into the ground and poisoning everything it touched.
Although his life was so much fun he was also very disciplined when it came to training and building his body. He’d always started the day with a run to get his cardio in and as he grew so did his speed and distance. It almost seemed laughable now that when he ran his first marathon it took almost 15 minutes. Now his morning run lasted around an hour and he’d usually cover around a thousand miles, partly due to his size and partly due to his insane genetics powering him to supersonic speeds. Good for him, but the world just wasn’t built to take such a pounding. The constant sonic booms could shatter windows hundreds of miles away, and the impact of his massive feet pounding the earth with incredible force was like a major earthquake with every single step. Buildings designed to cope with the strongest seismic waves had taken such a pounding with his daily runs that even they would collapse without warning, even if they were miles away from his route. He could outrun any missile and that would run out of fuel long before he got tired
It all felt so easy that he soon started strapping bits of scrap metal to himself for more of a challenge but it didn’t really slow him much. He started light with a few trucks and locomotives, before his first major growth spurt he grabbed a few commuter trains from a station at a city he’d found and twisted them together to make an improvised weight belt. A couple of thousand commuters expecting to have a short journey to work soon found themselves being tossed around like dolls as he hit 600 mph and the train cars smashed against his sweaty abs. If anyone had survived they didn’t after he dived into the ocean and swam for a while a couple of miles below the surface to cool off. The heat from his body sending a cloud of scalding hot steam miles into the atmosphere. The rate he was growing he soon moved on to bigger and better things, and it wasn’t long before he was ripping up bridges, crushing up ships, he once even ran coast to coast with an aircraft carrier strapped to his back with a quarter of a million tons of anchor chains.
In the short time it took him to grow from a seriously muscled up teen into a man he changed the earth more than billions of years of geology ever could. Miles of solid bedrock soon began to crack and shatter under his incredible onslaught, so much so that he often felt like he was running on gravel instead of solid rock. Land levels began to change, some rivers began to flow in the opposite direction. Some cities disappeared as they sank below sea level. Others found themselves getting torn apart as new mountains formed beneath them. Some were destroyed as fissures opened up right through the crust and rivers of lava bubbled up, not that the searing hot molten rock seemed to bother him. He’d often lazily dip his foot into a lava lake and laugh as he flicked it around with his toes, sparking off huge fires and destroying anything it hit.
His achievements have been truly mind blowing. At the age of just 16 he became the first person to swim the Atlantic, mainly because he wanted to see Europe and make sure they were diverting most of their resources to him. By this time he’d just eclipsed the tallest building on the planet in height and stood just over 2800ft in height. His weight was impossible to calculate since no one really knew just how dense his superhuman muscles had become, but some scientists estimated it could be as much as 13 million tons, possibly even much more. The treacherous ocean was no barrier to him and he ploughed through the water with ease, still faster than any jet, swimming over 3000 miles in around four hours. Of course this wasn’t without it’s problems, his huge body blasting through the water at such a massive speed sent apocalyptic tidal waves battering both sides of the ocean. Scores of towns, villages and cities were wiped off the map, some parts of Britain experienced more than 500 years worth of coastal erosion in just 10 minutes. Some small low lying countries and islands were completely washed away for ever.
He soon grew bored with Europe. The cities were too small, the buildings were even smaller and there wasn’t much to have fun with. He almost wished he was big enough to snuff out the entire continent under his foot and put it out of its miserable existence. He did climb the Matterhorn but it only took a few seconds for him to clamber up to the summit, and then he swung off the top like King Kong on the Empire State building until his millions of tons of mass weakened a fault in the rock and the top 2000ft of the mountain snapped off and he fell to the bottom, leaving a crater of barren wasteland miles across. Devastating earthquakes and avalanches rocked the whole Alpine region but he just stood up as if nothing had happened. Still, he was a little pissed off that his fun had been cut short and decided to finish the job, pulling back his arm and unleashing a punch with all his strength into the side of the broken mountain. He felt almost no resistance as his colossal fist pulverised the rock hitting with the force of a dozen nukes. Tons of rock instantly vaporised. He unleashed his full fury then, using it like a punching bag. His huge arms moving with incredible speed as he blasted punch after punch into the mountain. In just a few seconds he’d made a hole right through it. He glanced down at his thick, veiny quads and decided to finish it off with a big roundhouse quick. The stricken mountain shattered on impact. Billions of tons of granite pulverised, scores of alpine villages buried with no hope of ever being seen again. He decided he may as well finish the job and set about systematically destroying the entire mountain range. If nothing else, it was a good workout and was getting him pumped. In little over and hour he’d changed the face of the planet forever and left a continent in ruins. A vast dust cloud covered thousands of miles, turning day into night temperatures plummeted. He’d been breathing so hard he’d actually forced the jet stream way off course and all the way down to his level. The searingly cold hurricane force winds gave him a pleasant tingling sensation as they slowly cooled off his hot, sweaty torso, the vast contours of his pecs and abs acting like their own wind tunnels, creating deadly turbulence anywhere near his body.
He conquered the Atlantic with ease and the Pacific wasn’t much more of a challenge. He decided to take his time. He soon found he could compress enough oxygen into his vast lungs to stay under water for hours at a time, and he even got to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The crushing pressure of 7 miles of water above him didn’t bother him at all. In fact, he found he could get a nice burn doing ab crunches down there. It didn’t all go well, he dragged a couple of cruise ships he found back down with him thinking he could use them as weights and the water might give him a bit of extra resistance, but by the time he reached the ocean floor the ships had compressed so much he looked like he was holding a couple of bath toys in his hands. He wondered if the submarines a few miles up that had been tracking him might work better. They didn’t. They shrunk down so much that they looked like the whales he enjoyed snacking on, so he popped them in his mouth and swallowed them. The heat from the reactors breaking down and the missiles and war heads exploding made them nice and spicy. It also made him into a walking Chernobyl, and for months afterwards he was spewing out deadly radiation. His walk across the Amazon was still visible from space, like a scar as every tree for 50 miles either side of him turned brown and died within hours. No one knew if anything would ever grow there again. Except him, the radiation did something to his already inhuman DNA and he could feel himself growing stronger and bigger by the day, like he was absorbing the massive amounts of energy and using it.
Now that he’d finally reached manhood he was truly a god amongst men. He’d already achieved more than most would do in a million lifetime’s, and ruled over his billions of subjects without any mercy. They were there to serve and the whole world was his playground, not that he didn’t dream every night about being able to straddle the whole planet with his muscular thighs, smother entire nations with his balls, drink dry every ocean, river and lake, not because he needed to, but because he could. For now he was just loving life. He could do anything and go anywhere. Anything he wanted he got. Food, weights, clothes. It was up to the world to come up with the solutions and deliver the goods. He was still getting over the rush from visiting Tokyo. Rising out of the bay like Godzilla and spending a few blissful days systematically toying with and destroying one of the largest cities on earth, leaving nothing behind but miles of smoking ruins and a toxic wasteland of all kinds of bodily fluids.
Today was a new day and a new city. He’d had thousands of houses flattened on the outskirts to make space for the custom made gym equipment he’d ordered. The most expensive and biggest construction project in human history, although it should be an honour to watch him deadlift nearly 50% of all the iron ever produced on the planet for rep after perfect rep. Luckily there were still plenty of cities left because that massive barbell was already feeling too light and he was wondering what would happen if he dropped it on top of the city centre. Life was good.

Gaia.
If you're a mutual of a mutual, you'll see posts briefly talking about how @vonerde and I have bonked heads and developed a crazy idea of Godzilla being Gaia's son. This was mostly baked up because of how I myself interpreted Godzilla's relationship with Earth. Godzilla is an avatar of the Earth, so it makes sense to make him related to someone who is, in essence, an embodiment of Earth. Below the cut are various transcribed ramblings developed across the last three days that go into detail about how this relationship works from The Son's side of things. How he interprets the relationship. It's a chonky post.
First and foremost, let's talk about what Godzilla is and how that relates to being an avatar of the Earth. There is no way to interpret traditional mythos without acknowledging the truth behind his creation: Godzilla is an analogy for The Atomic Bomb. While my interpretation doesn't take that to a literal degree, it's touched upon a lot by the way I describe the mechanics of Godzilla's body. He is fueled by radiation, and it burns at such a rapid degree that he must constantly recharge by consuming the energy produced at Nuclear Power Plants. This means that Godzilla is a walking radioactive nightmare. In some films, his wake has left people sick from radiation poisoning.
To get into the meat and potatoes of this post: What does this make Godzilla to the Earth? In order to answer this, we first need to explore what exactly it was that created him. There is no beating around the bush: It was Humanity's fault. Through and through. In 1945, they tested the first atomic bomb... and then in 1946, they tested several more atomic bombs in the Pacific Proving Grounds... and they performed over one hundred and five nuclear tests. To this day, the islands are still contaminated from the nuclear fallout left by the atomic testing done by the United States. For decades, inhabitants of the islands were left infected by the radiation... and the soil, the habitat, and even the very water... was ruined by the testing.
While I think the damage done at the Pacific Proving Grounds was felt by The Earth, no damage was left to her form for one simple reason: He absorbed it. All of it. Perhaps not the radiation or the fallout, as that still wrecked the wildlife and the people... but the damage it could've caused... the irreparable damage done... was nullified. Of course, perhaps he did not do this willingly, as he was just another victim caught in the blast— but his connection to her gave him the ability to siphon it off— and once he started... he refused to stop. Not because the radiation was addicting or because it was energizing— but because he knew if he stopped for even a second— it would burn her, and how dare they put a single scar upon her form...? How dare they?
Despite how noble his intention was, there was no denying that what happened physically altered him to such an insane degree, that he is simply an abnormality. Nothing that big should exist. He should collapse under the weight of his own body and yet he persists. A gift from Mother, perhaps? To not only be powerful? But to exist as an integral part of the natural order? What does he do with that gift? It's really hard to explain because he doesn't yearn to actively destroy humanity, despite his jaded view of them. He doesn't protect or care about them, though. He exclusively cares about the ground he treads upon. So rampaging through cities in order to defeat a rival monster or absorb more energy from a nuclear plant is simply what he feels is justified for what they did to the earth. He's aggressive and does not bottle up his negative emotions. He holds humanity responsible for their transgressions against nature, and will actively enforce his will upon them if he feels they are attempting anything of that variety again. However, he understands that there is a difference between hostility and sadism. He doesn't actively seek to torture Humanity... but he won't hesitate to put them in their place if he has to. As long as they strike first, he will always strike back. Their buildings are material. Their actions are not.
What does this mean for the relationship? Well, to cite a headcanon that I read whilst figuring out how to make this relationship respectful to Vee's interpretation of Earth and of her own muse, I read this specific quote: "Even if she is kind by nature, she is not a carpet for anyone to walk over; any disrespect that is shown towards her will be responded by twice the amount of disrespect." It's him. He's the disrespect. To the point where she can actively call upon him and he will appear— always (despite his negative feelings about being used as a tool for another.) At the end of the day, Godzilla loves The Earth (and by proxy, his ma) very much. However— this doesn't change the fact that there is an estranged relationship between the two. Despite the fact that Godzilla will always stand up for The Earth, and will always be the one to snap so that she doesn't have too— this doesn't change the fact that he views himself as everything he hates about what Humanity has done... and because of that, he feels like a stain on her dress. So he wants to be as far away from her as possible. A child of the earth poisoned by humanity to the point of unleashing righteous fury upon all who dare to repeat history. Of course, he assumes she hates him. He's everything she hates, isn't he?
The more I develop things with Vee, the more I will have to post regarding the connection. However, I hope this has been an enjoyable read!! I'm having a lot of fun with this interpretation of the character.
