(day late) WEDNESDAY - WIP
that day gwen stormed into lena's office and demanded she enforce a stricter dress code. lena looked at her bright red face and just barely restrained herself from calling her a slur.

Happy @podcastgirlsweek to all who celebrate! While I haven't had the time to properly work on fics (and probably won't this week because oops, hurt my hands yesterday) I still wanted to take the time to highlight some favorite podcast girlies along with everyone else!
The prompt for Monday is highlighting podcasts with women in the leading roles, so here's a few of mine (and hopefully, some new ones of yours if you don't know them yet):
Back Again, Back Again: Ilyaas, you absolutely fantastic disaster of a fantasy ace, never stop trying.
Breathing Space: While the show is anthology with a rotating cast, some of my favorites from across its run include:
Evie Yuriskin
Amity Archer
Any characters who were introduced one episode and then started referring to each other as "my wife" by the end or by their next appearance
Camlann: Some apocalypse survivors interpret dangerous dreams about dark magic to cope. Some knit sweaters. Both are valid and should kiss.
City of Ghosts: Featuring the grungy, disgruntled, tormented-by-visions LADY detective of your dreams.
Desperado: Take note - give your ladies knives. And god powers. And witchcraft. And a sniper rifle, for good measure.
Do You Copy?: I think [REDACTED] deserves three weeks of paid vacation
Fawx & Stallion: Madge Stallion is THE moment. She's six feet tall. She can't stop making innuendos. She's not your fucking Mrs. Hudson (although, she is - no, I shan't say).
Hi Nay: Mari & Laura are my everything - the loving and self-sacrificing hero and the newfound friend who chooses to stand by her side (fire axe and all).
Inn Between: Oh, my Inn Between girlies, where do I start? Fina and Betty, the OGs and life partners that even death couldn't stall? Rosie and Zara, the new best pals who chose to stay together? Phoebe, just one step at a time learning what she deserves and what she doesn't? All impeccable, A+.
It Makes A Sound: Any show focused on music is going to be a slam dunk for me, but Deirdre's quest to reclaim her memories as well as those that tied her to her mother is so damn real and compelling.
The Kingmaker Histories: No female character in this show has ever done anything wrong. Colette gets a migraine pass. Ariadne can turn people inside out. Daphne is owed this for working in a theme park.
Life With LEO(h): Janiiiiiine, so messy and smart and dedicated and she cares so much, I love yoooooou.
Me and AU: Kate's worries and desires and doubts are some of the realest out of any audio drama so when do I find an Ella too
Palimpsest: My faaaaavorite gothic horror anthology, each one fresh with a different brand of haunted, tormented, secret-keeping (and quite frequently gay) gothic protagonist
The Pasithea Powder: Jane and Sophie. Sophie and Jane. What more could you need? <3
The Silt Verses: Women who start cults/leave cults/seek an end to the endless cycle of meaningless sacrifice as so valid. For all your wet cat(fish) woman needs.
Second Star to the Left: Because I always love a good Ishani performance. Hi Gwen, please tell Boots I love them.
Small Victories: You want sad wet cat women? How about one that literally can't stop self-sabotaging (but at least manages to draw the line at sabotaging others...occasionally). She even gets stabbed!
Starfall: I mean, kind of a given, but anyway, Leona definitely exists because she's the kind of action protagonist woman I always wanted - one that could be unapologetically powerful, but still full of flaws and desires (especially ones that weren't about falling in love and minimizing her own strengths). She's even autistic!
Stories From Ylelmore: Keryth! Keryth, Keryth, Keryth! She reminds me so much of the kinds of characters I would make up when I was younger - I love her and her small magic so dearly.
The Strange Case of Starship Iris: Hi queer space pirates <3
Unseen: Another anthology show, but Harry Winters and Never-Ending Circles remains one of the most perfect premiere episodes I've ever heard in audio drama.
The Way We Haunt Now: Get your podcast ladies here, dead or alive!
We Fix Space Junk: My favorite type of repairman is a woman who could kick my ass.
Wolf 359: I don't think I need say much more here - y'all know and love 'em just as much as I do.

Catching up on some @podcastgirlsweek prompts, starting with Day 4: Nobody understands her like I do... Recognize a woman from a podcast you think is niche and/or underappreciated.
I adore Dr. Faye Underwood from @vestaclinicpod. She has so much compassion for her patients, and she's also a bit of a mess like the rest of us. For example, bad heartbreak hair decisions:
Faye: Alright. Get off it. It's just blue, Sec.
Dakarai: Seafoam . . . in places.
Thus, inspiring my bead choices for a more delicate piece I'm practicing:

CW for explicit language & smoking.
I'm jumping on the bandwagon for Podcast Girls Week with a short clip from Chapter One of our upcoming show!
Introducing Detective Dana Liu (she/they), the tough-as-nails and emotionally distant lead on the Kind Killer case. Her new partner, Detective Ilana Stone (she/her), is an enigma and a half, and seems to be intrigued by Dana's fierce humanity.
This scene is one of my favourites between the detectives and I hope you enjoy it too <3
Dana Liu is voiced by Skye Redden and Ilana Stone is voiced by Bree Frankel.

Day 2 + Day 3 of Podcast Girls Week: This too is yuri... + WIP Wednesday
(It was supposed to be for Day 2, then Day 3, but I finally finished it today, so let's pretend it's definitely not late)
Gwen anxiously waits for Dai’s and Perry return, then Morgan breaks the news to her and they face them together | Camlann (1,184 words) Read on AO3
Gwen fiddled with the yarn in her hands and looked up at the clock for the third time in the last five minutes.
They should come back by now, she thought, or at least call us.
It’s been almost an hour since Dai and Perry left. Perry called once on walkie talkie to say they’re okay but have to get closer and they will call then. For the last forty five minutes it was complete radio silence and to say Gwen was starting to worry would be a slight understatement.
At first she had Gwaine to look after. He would taunt and yell at knights left outside their cabin but after some time they stopped responding unless he went far outside the safe bubble and Gwen managed to convince him that he shouldn’t put himself in more danger. She took a look at his injuries but thankfully he had only few bruises and some scratches on his hand so taking care of them didn’t take long. Then she went to check on Morgan who was holding the walkie talkie in her hands like her life depended on it. Gwen checked her bandages and said that Dai and Perry can take care of themselves and are definitely okay. Morgan seemed calmed a little by her words but she didn’t loosen her grip on the walkie talkie.
Since then Gwen made everyone some tea and sandwiches, washed the dishes, added wood into the fire, took a walk along the shield barrier to check if it is still working and changed water in Galert’s bowl. Now she was sitting in the kitchen with half made sweater and ball of yarn on her lap. She managed to do whole three stitches before the nerves got to her and she started fiddling with the yarn instead of knitting.
They are okay, she reminded herself. They are okay, Perry took their spear, Dai isn’t defenceless either, they are okay.
Of course, unless something happened to them, Arthur and knights captured them or the fire was actually a trap, said something in the back of her mind but she tried hard to ignore it.
Gwen straighten the yarn she tied around her finger. She wanted the most to go to Morgan, check all her bandages one more time and then sit next to her bed and calm herself down by looking at woman’s rising and falling chest. But she couldn’t do it. Her anxiety would only pass onto Morgan and she should be resting. So Gwen was left to fiddle with her yarn in the kitchen and to look up at the clock and then outside the window and back at the clock and so on.
And then she heard the scream. It wasn’t loud and sounded distorted but she definitely heard something. She immediately jumped on her feet and run upstairs. The door to Morgan’s room were left open and Gwen stopped at the entrance breathing heavily.
“Everything’s all right?” she choked out looking at Morgan. She was sitting in her bed, holding the walkie talkie close to her. “Did they call?”
Morgan was looking at the device in her hands, her mouth hang slightly open. She looked up at her with shining eyes. She moved her lips as if she wanted to say something but there was no sound.
“Morgan?” Gwen walked up to her concerned. Morgan seemed fine, blood didn’t seeped through bandages, there was no fresh wounds she could see. The only reason she could think of that might have caused woman’s distress was call on the walkie talkie and her heart stopped in her chest at the mere thought of what could have happened. She kneeled next to the bed, gently reached out towards Morgan and held her hands. She looked straight into her eyes and from so close Gwen could see a smile forming on her lips.
A smile.
“There are people, Gwen.” She whispered as if she was sharing secret of the universe. “There are people out there!”
Her smile grew, her eyes shone with joy. She threw her head back and laughed with relief Gwen never seen in her before. She would do anything to see Morgan like that everyday, to hear her laugh more often. It suited her so well. She deserved to laugh so freely.
“There are survivors! There are people! It’s not just us and them, there are other people!” Morgan voice raised and raised, laughter still audible in it. “It wasn’t one fire, there are hundreds of them!”
She started to repeat everything that Dai told her. Her smile didn’t get smaller even for a second. One of her hands let go of the walkie talkie, only to grab Gwen’s hand tightly. Gwen didn’t mind. Strong hold on her palm finally made Morgan’s words burst through fog of anxiety and shock and their meaning hit her with full force. They were not alone. There were people out there.
She thought about all the people she lost. Her friends that died in front of her. People she met during Cataclysm that were also killed one by one leaving her alone in new wilderness. All her relatives an ocean away that she had no idea what happened to them and which she probably will never see again. Her dad that she mourned and hoped he was still alive.
Despite all this loss and death there were still people out there. There was hope shining on the horizon. Her family might be alive somewhere. She haven’t killed everyone and maybe wasn’t doomed to kill Morgan, Dai, Perry and Gwaine. Maybe she will not be left alone again.
„There are people out there…” She murmured and locked her eyes with Morgan’s gaze. Woman smiled at her widely nodding frantically. „There are people alive.”
Broken laugh escaped her mouth. Then another and another and another until she was fully laughing alongside Morgan. Her laughter sounded a little wrong, like she needed to remember how to laugh with her full chest, without a worry some monster was waiting around the corner to snatch every bit of happiness she had. She laughed openly for all the people she lost, for ones that she might never see again but now there was actual chance they were alive. She laughed for herself - hiding in a forest or an abandoned building, with blood of yet another person she couldn’t save on her hands, alone, alone, so awfully alone.
They laughed together, uneven and broken, but together nevertheless. At some point Gwen moved forward and embraced Morgan with her free arm. Woman leaned on her putting her face in the crook of her neck, their laugh slowly ceasing.
“We are not alone, Gwen.” She said quietly and hesitantly moved her hand still holding the walkie talkie around Gwen.
“We are not.” She repeated feeling Morgan’s hand on her back. She hid her face in woman’s hair and closed her eyes.
They were not alone. There were people out there, there were survivors. There was hope. They weren’t doomed from beginning. Despite everything there was hope for all of them.

For Day 2 of @podcastgirlsweek (This too is yuri... Spotlight a F/F ship), I wanted to shout out Jane and Sophie from @pasitheapowder! I love them both so much - their individual journeys make me feel so many things, and then you put them together... I think the song Mary Ann from the show put it best: "I'm an immovable thing, you're an unstoppable force..."
I had to make a bracelet to keep myself calm while waiting for the final two episodes to be released, so I asked the people behind Jane and Sophie what their favourite colours would be. The answer was:
Jane: Green, because everything. (probably an emerald green)
Sophie: Blue, because basic. And great. (a medieval manuscript blue)
And thus the Jane and Sophie bracelet was born!

The Riddle of the Orion
Two drabbles.
For @podcastgirlsweek Day 1, favorite episode. Inspired by Wolf 359 ep 53, “Dirty Work,” probably my favorite episode of any podcast ever.
———
Minkowski hadn’t thought about the riddle of the Orion in a long time.
She’d given the right answer: save the captain. It wasn’t a choice. That’s what chain of command was about, was for: you didn’t make decisions yourself. You performed your duty, followed the orders given to you, and suppressed your grief in private afterward. It was supposed to be easy. Or at least clear.
Real life wasn’t like that. Real command taught you that everything, always, is a choice. Following orders was a choice. And how to protect her people was never clear.
She still grieved in private.
———
Lovelace hadn’t thought about the riddle of the Orion in a long time.
She hadn’t done anything cheesy like declaring “I don’t believe in no-win scenarios”; she’d seen plenty of no-win scenarios in her life.  But she certainly took “You can only save one” as a challenge rather than a limitation. She knew the engineering, and came up with a reasonably plausible solution that could save both of them.
And then she told the instructor that she would save the codebreaker.
Tell them what they want to hear, so they give you enough space to do what you truly believe.
