The marke of Noenobekon; interpreter
Possibly Pocasset Wampanoag or Narragansett. Identified on this deed, signed in June of 1660 as an interpreter for Namumpum (Weetamoo) and Quiquequonnechog, her then partner.
The document elucidates on access to land for white settlers, and includes place names for lands at and beyond Pocasset (present-day Little Compton, Rhode Island). Some place names are spelled here as they appear (or as well as I can decipher) as: “...a certain necke of land commonly called by ye name of Panaquaquit, popochocksset … chechoesit, wonascotucket, womposcocinnat…”
We have been hard pressed to find further information about Noenobekon, beyond what can be inferred from the document itself.
Dated June 1660, seen at the Massachusetts Historical Society

Raw Cranberry Relish, from Weetamoo: Heart of the Pocassets. Cranberries are one of my favorite parts of the Thanksgiving meal but we usually make it as a sauce. This way is much less prep work, as the food processor saves a lot of time. What’s in the bowl is half of what I made.
There was no citation for this recipe so I don’t know if it was provided by the author Patricia Clark Smith, or from elsewhere.

On the evening of March 20th, 2013, authorities in Cranston, Rhode Island were called about a suspected brush fire at the entrance of Pocasset Cemetery. As the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire, they discovered something unexpected amongst the flames: the body of a young man.
Fingerprints later helped identify the young man as 22-year-old Gandy ‘Shad’ Kaydea. It was immediately clear he had been a victim of homicide. An autopsy revealed that Shad had been killed by ligature strangulation.
Detectives believe that Shad was killed in a different place before his body was brought to the cemetery and set on fire. Years have passed since this tragic event, and many questions remain unanswered - such as who did this? and why?
While this information is still unknown to this day, there are a quite a few circumstances surrounding Shad's murder that may hold some significance.

The marke of Quiquequonnechog. Other possible spellings: Quequakanewett, Quequegunent, Qusquawant, Quequequanachet.
Niantic-Narragansett. The son of Quaiapen. Quequakanewett or Quequequanachet is a partner to Namumpum (later Weetamoo) at some point in the 1660s, their mark appearing here on a June 1660 deed below the mark of Namumpum.
Place names mentioned in the document for lands at Pocasset (present-day Little Compton, Rhode Island, Tiverton, Rhode Island and surrounding areas), and spelled as they appear (or as well as I can decipher):
Namumpum’s territory at Nunequoquit; Paupochucktset; Poycoesett; Checchocsit; Wonascotucket;
Seen at the Massachusetts Historical Society.
