does this mean…POC jason and thalia??? 👀
WE DID GET ZEUS AND POSEIDON'S CASTING
Tumblr media
"King of Olympus, god of the sky, Zeus is the Deus Optimus Maximus of the Greek pantheon, and Lance is the perfect actor to channel his personality. (...) Lance projects an aura of authority and power that makes him perfect for the king of Olympus. As I told him when we met, he has so much gravitas he could pull planets out of alignment, and when he makes his displeasure known to Percy Jackson . . . wow, wait until you see that scene. If you were Zeus, king of the gods, and you could be anyone you wanted, you would definitely choose to be Lance Reddick. (I’m pretty sure he’s Zeus’ favorite actor irl.) Nobody would dare mess with you, except maybe . . ."
- Rick Riordan about Lance Reddick
Tumblr media
"An unstoppable force in his own right (...) When we finally meet Poseidon toward the end of season one (just as we do in the book), Toby is incredible on screen. When he delivered some of Poseidon’s iconic lines, I got chills. And seeing him and Walker together, you can absolutely believe they are father and son. Not many actors have the sheer power to stand toe-to-toe with one another and convince you they are the manifestations of the sky and the sea, about the tear one another apart."
- Rick Riordan abour Toby Stephens
Tumblr media
Rick also says :"This concludes the casting announcements for season one. If you haven’t seen a particular god or demigod announced, that’s because they don’t appear in the season and won’t be cast until we start the subsequent seasons, which means any of those announcements are probably at least a year away. More later, demigods, but I am pleased to tell you we are in a very good place as we look ahead to a (not-yet-greenlit-but-fully-anticipated) season two!" Which means no Athena nor Hera in Season One
And just like all the other announcements I beg of you DO NOT START HARASSING THE ACTORS BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE THE CASTING!!! SIMPLY DO NOT WATCH THE SHOW. END OF STORY!!!!

so, a little funfact about me, I, somehow, managed to skip Thalia's description and imagined her like this until half-way the third book. I felt betrayed.

Pakistani Grace siblings and Indian Grover.
Beryl had a strict rule about only speaking Urdu in the home.
She said it would be embarrassing if a star like her had whitewashed children.
Jason has had to relearn it as he was only 2 when he left.
Thalia left at 9 so she has a better understanding.
It helped that Annabeth demanded Thalia teach her and the two would speak in Urdu.
Luke learned for her too, after seeing her struggle with english.
Now Jason just translates for her because at this point she cannot be bothered to be understood.
He even gave Artemis some of his beginner books.
Grover knows Hindi.
Having learned from his father and uncles.
Hindi and Urdu are very similiar.
And so for the most part the two can converse in their native languages fine.
However their are times they come across a word that's different.
Sometimes Jason steps in and other times they both just yell out both words to each other.
Thalia: I said education (تعلیم = Tamleem), how do you not know?!
Grover: What the fuck is Tamleem I'm saying education (शिक्षा = shiksha) ?!
Thalia: What the fuck is Shiksha?!
Jason just casually sipping his chai, he could intervene but he leaves em to it.
It's not like he could get a word in if he tried.
He does eventually tell them though.
And they both just go "Ohhhh..." turn to each other like "Well why didn't you just say that?!"

The one thing they could do that I think would make me forgive blonde percy is if they cast Thalia as East Asian. Genuinely think that would repair any and all psychic damage I have and ever will receive from blonde percy

Black Thalia
Hey, does anyone other than @redhoodzuko hc Thals as black? I’ve always pictured her with an ash black complexion and an Afro, before she got a side shave after joining the hunters, but 99% of the fanart of her I see and the people I chat with see her as white. Her race(I’ve checked all her descriptions) is never mentioned, at least when she’s first introduced in the first few books, so it’s perfectly reasonable.

yes! also reblogging this with a super super old drawing of Thalia I made from before there was really any poc Thalia art
Tumblr media
(picture quality looks like shit right now but I’m hoping it’s better in the actual post)
btw, I hc her with the haircut from op’s amazing amazing amazing drawing, this is a little drawing of what I think she would look like newly inducted into the hunters of Artemis, she would probably get a haircut later on
I’m so glad poc Thalia is catching on, especially with tv Zeus being black
My take on @yendts and @cam-stopped-eating-candles’s designs of Thalia!!!
Tumblr media
I think this interpretation is so cool. Hoping that this catches on and this becomes the collective fannon design for Thalia.

if they cast thalia as a woc that would mean jason is also a poc and that would officially mean percy is the token white boy of the seven and i think that's just how it should be.

the pjo show is not a "remake," it's an adaptation. it was never going to be exactly the same as the book. to adapt is to alter, transform, modify for a new purpose. and i hate to say this, but pjo was never a flawless book series. the lack of diversity among the principal cast of the original 5 books was one of those flaws, and you won't change my mind on that (think about it - percy is white. annabeth is white. grover is depicted as white. luke is white. thalia is white. nico is white. bianca is white. rachel is white. chiron is depicted as white. clarisse is white. silena is white. the stoll brothers are white. there was room for diversity here that was not being fulfilled, something that rick clearly recognized when he went out of his way to make every new member of the main cast in hoo a person of color... furthermore, we seem to largely just have ethan and beckendorf as noteworthy non-white characters in the first books, the disposable poc who die tragically)
i'm honestly befuddled that leah's casting was ever such a massive problem, and it's so frustrating that it's usually woc on the receiving end of all of this hate. i do understand people struggling to make an adjustment, because these characters have had specific descriptions in our heads for nearly two decades. but how much does the character's appearance matter, compared to who they are?
frankly, i think it's just a reflection of the fact that online fandoms are not as welcoming of poc as they think they are. for some reason, there's something about black and brown people specifically that renders characters harder to like or relate to. and well, i think that's just sad. terribly, awfully sad.
