He remarked, “This hospital will cater to both the elderly and children, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring a healthy population.” The RJ Sankara Eye Hospital is the 14th facility operated by the Kanchi Math in India. Before the inauguration, Modi met with the Shankaracharya of Kanchi and paid respects at the statue of the former Shankaracharya. The new hospital is expected to benefit residents from 20 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as areas in bordering states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, according to representatives from the Kanchi Math. During his day-long visit, Modi is set to launch several development projects, including multiple airport initiatives valued at over ₹6,700 crore. This marks his first trip to Varanasi since June 18. As part of the agenda, he will also lay the foundation stone for the expansion of the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport’s runway, the construction of a new terminal, and other associated works, with an estimated cost of around ₹2,870 crore.
