#plush modification

My Lil’ Pootis plush arrived yesterday & today I made a slight modification to it :)

I bought a dog toy, extracted the squeaker, & put it inside the Pootis. I’m very happy that my stitchwork is barely visible where I did the “surgery” on the little guy.

Threadbare tiger turned out pretty good considering I had never done anything like this before!

The short version is I turned her inside out and painted her insides with acrylic paint.

Process pictures/plushie surgery under the cut:

I picked acrylic paint based on my experience using it for t-shirts. It's not perfect, but it's cheap, available, and looks good for dozens of machine washes. It's a little crusty, but that won't matter TOO much because I'm painting the inside, not the soft part. (Don't do this for a kid's plushie though! The paint can't handle that and it could stain!)

The idea was to for her to remain mostly white but with a visible, colorful undercoat. And for the most part that went pretty well:

Except I went a little too heavy on the yellow.

Then I did a few things I forgot to photograph. To even out the color I spritzed her with a spray bottle. That worked really really well in the places where I did it lightly! In a few places, though, the water pooled and carried the paint all the way out onto her fur and she got crusty.

To rectify the crusty, she got washing machine'd and came out looking like this:

A few notes here on putting acrylic paints in the washing machine. First of all, make sure it's 100% dry first or it will a) wash out of your project and b) wash onto your other clothes! I used a blow dryer. Second, even dry acrylics will definitely stain other materials in the same load. I washed her in a load of all black t-shirts and that was fine.

Ultimately, I wish I had gone heavier on the paint from the beginning and just planned to wash some of it off in the washing machine! I really like the effect the paint gave her, in both the heavy and the lighter spots. I only regret that it wasn't more consistent.

To top it all off she got extra beans, new stuffing and needle sculpting, and whiskers!

Wasn't a fan of the Beanie Boo axolotl's design, so I modified it a fair bit! Made it more accurate to the real life guy

this is how he used to look like. i have very little experience at sculpting, and i know that he's not perfect.. but i genuinely love how he turned out.

he was given goth makeup on purpose, yes. i just thought it'll make him look fancy, haha-

Been a REAL hot minute since the last “Dunwich Crafts Stuff!”

I picked up some plushes from goodwill and did a crafting stream! Cutting off heads and sloppy stitching parts together. Maybe not my cleanest work, but hey. I do this for fun, it don’t gotta be perfect. I just like being a plush Dr Frankenstein

i think i did pretty good closing up the surgery incision with ladder stitches, took like an hour and a half to slowly tighten and close since there was so so so much stuffing inside this little guy

What do you do when you really want the Aerith Final Fantasy 7 Remake plush but it’s super expensive? Get the Crisis Core Reunion version for a lot less at your local secondhand game store and mod it, of course!

She has her bangles now, and I went ahead and cinched the waist to give her dress more shape.

The general plan is to fit her with some boots, add a ruffle to the bottom of her dress, and see what I can do about making her red jacket. I’ve decided she’s an Aerith from a universe where she got a much happier ending.

have been thinking about getting one of the build-a-bear mlp plushies and replacing the hair with a fabric mane + tail..... i think i could do it fairly easily but m not sure if anyone's attempted it yet ;^^ any advice or thoughts?
