Androgynous/Masc Leaning Capsule Wardrobe Ideas
In honor of International Nonbinary People’s Day, I offer you the clothing advice I wish I had like 15 years ago. I prefer a small well curated wardrobe but it is so tough to pull that off as a nonbinary genderfluid person. I spent years struggling to make my capsule wardrobe work for me. Every example I saw was either with feminine clothes or with the world blandest men’s clothing.
For reference, I’m AFAB and live in Kentucky - very hot and muggy in summers, can get quite cold (-20 F) in winter but it’s usually mild with highs are in the 30F-40F range most days. This is the advice I’d give my younger self if I could.
Focus on 10-15 Core Items
While I am fluid, I consistently spend most of my time “inbetween” these days. Having a neutral to masc learning main wardrobe with some feminine items to mix in wound up working best for me. So here’s the masc leaning base wardrobe I recommend.
~3 x Button Ups - I went with short sleeve Hawaiian shirts for myself because I love bold patterns. You can find a lot of Hawaiian shirt these days that don’t have stereotypical “island” patterns on them while still being pretty light and breathable in summer. If your style leans more classic, consider oxford cloth button ups. You might need more button ups if you work in a business casual setting.
~3 x Tees - I like graphic tees, specifically hand screen printed ones so that’s what I go with. But if your style is more classic then consider investing in some good quality solid color tees.
~3 x Casual Tops - for me this is a tank top, turtleneck, and a Henley. But you might consider a collarless button ups, plain long sleeve shirts, and ringer style long sleeve shirts.
~3 Pants - for me, I have black and stone washed denim since those are my favorites. I look for tapered fits over skinny or boot leg where I can. I have one pair that’s a jogger style I quite like. You might look for chinos or khakis if you have a more formal dress code at work but they’ll still work with graphic tees and other tops if you style them right.
~3 x Layers - for me this is a cardigan, a flannel, and a hoodie. You might consider v neck or crew neck sweaters, cable knit sweaters, and fair isle sweaters as well.
Feminine Clothing Module
What’s nice about this approach is that you can then create a feminine clothing module that plays nicely with your main wardrobe.
For me this looks like
1-2 Dresses - I have a maxi tee dress and a long sleeved linen dress since that works more for everyday wear for me.
1-2 Skirts - I don’t have any presently but the next big feminine swing I have I’ll be ordering a nice linen skirt in my favorite color.
1-2 Casual Tops - I don’t have any presently after my last big wardrobe edit but business casual shell tops, camisoles, and cowl neck tops work well here.
1-2 Layers - I have a linen blazer in a women’s cut and a long striped duster. You might consider a kimono style shrug/wraps, sweaters in a more feminine cut, and women’s cardigans
You don’t need a lot here because so much of the main wardrobe can be mixed with a feminine element or two and it becomes much more feminine - especially if you’re AFAB but even if you’re AMAB. It doesn’t take a lot a feminine clothing to make an over all outfit look more feminine and subtle touches work just as well as more overt styles ime.
Sizing
Sizing is tricky as hell. I’m plus size (size 18-20 in women’s pants) and especially trying to find masculine stuff with the right fit is a pain. I really recommend going in to try things on if you’re able but if not get comfortable with the idea you will likely need to send things back. Yes you can take measurements but those measurements are still listed with different proportions in mind.
For men’s clothes I lean toward a slightly oversized fit - as most men I’m around do. For women’s clothes, I lean toward a slightly tight fit - as most women I’m around do. Look at the people around you and see which fits they lean toward and opt for that where you’re able to for yourself.
Shoes, Outwear, Special Occasions
Shoes - I tend to opt to go neutral in my shoes and outerwear. Not in color or pattern mind you but gender. For shoes, I currently have 3 pairs - a pair of crocs (with spikes), running shoes/sneakers (old Champion brand slip ons), and a pair of Doc Martens. These are good options if you’re AMAB too because the sizing is unisex or available in similar styles for men and women. Other good options are Vans, Chucks, any hippie sandal brand you can think of. “Nicer” shoes are great but often pretty gendered. I lean toward getting “nicer shoes” that are opposite my assigned gender when I do grab them.
Outerwear - I also tend to opt for gender neutral options for outerwear too. Since it doesn’t get terribly cold here, I stick to a micropuff jacket from North Face and layer a black denim jacket over it when it gets cold. When I wear it with masc stuff, blends in. When I wear it with feminine stuff, it adds a slight edge I like. Pea coats are decent options as well. If you live some place real cold, a lot of the long winter coats are basically the same between genders, just different fits.
Special Occasions - I would recommend not worrying about special occasions until or unless they come up. I have the same two “special occasion” dresses that I’ve been using for years because they come up so rarely and I can’t bare to spend too much money on something I’ll wear maybe once or twice a year. Formal wear is highly gendered and if you learn androgynous it’s a tough needle to thread. For those events with hosts you know, it’s worth reaching out to them to see what they think makes an outfit “formal” - could be nicer cuts or materials, could be rigid gender norms - can’t know until you ask.
For most special occasions, I do not know the host, so I default very structured looks in accordance with my assigned gender. Still feels a bit edgy but no ones gonna have the guts to say it’s wrong. For AMAB folks you might do the inverse, more flowy looks and colors while still adhering to your assigned gender. All depends on the level of familiarity you have with the hosts and the flack you’re willing to catch.
Outfits
Some masc leaning outfit ideas:
button up, hoodie, pants, boots
graphic tee, flannel or cardigan, pants, sneakers
turtleneck, pants, boat shoes
button up, tie, cardigan, pants, chelsea boots
Some fem leaning outfit ideas:
button up, cardigan, skirt, sneakers
shell top, wrap, pants, sandals
graphic tee, skirt, sneakers
dress, sandals
Conclusion
Hope this was helpful to someone out there!

Staple Piece: Black Overalls
Tumblr media
These black overalls have made several appearances at cons, events, casual outings, and most recently on an episode of Dropout TV's Um, Actually. It's easy to see why these are such a go-to for Harvey!
They have a relaxed fit through the hips and legs, with the traditional square neck and snaps in front, a single off-center chest pocket, and button-up sides. They're a nice, solid true black (as opposed to a distressed, faded, or stone-washed black), and look so comfy! They're also really versatile, and can become a whole new outfit with a change of the shirt underneath!
These overalls differ slightly from the traditional "workwear" overall in that they have a lower waistline, a small off-center chest pocket rather than the single, centered large chest pocket on most overalls, and a squared neckline in the back with thinner straps rather than the thick v-straps of workwear overalls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's hard to say what brand they are or even what material, though they don't look to be heavy-duty "working" denim like something you'd buy at Carhartt. If I had to guess, I'd say a heavier-weight cotton or a stretch denim. The buttons are somewhat reminiscent of Levi's, but it's hard to tell for certain with such a small detail in photos. No logo is visible in any photos I've seen.
Styling
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harvey tends to pair these overalls with various brightly colored shirts and cute sneakers, such as the Converse low tops he sported on Um, Actually. I especially love the blue crocheted crop top option with the cheeky peak of skin on the sides (so much so that I recently tried something similar with my own pair of overalls...10/10 would recommend). It's a look that's adaptable to all seasons and great for any occasion where you want or need to balance comfort with style!
Affordable Options
It was the wrong season to make this post, because I had a terrible time trying to find any good overall options. But I did find a few!
Tumblr media
These casual slim fit cargo overalls from Ciciful ($39.99) come in black, khaki, and green and have the single small off-center pocket. They also have elastic in the ankle hems, but maybe you like that! Available in sizes up to 3XL, which fits a 50-inch hip measurement.
The plain patched pocket button-up overalls from Bloomchic ($45.90) have a skinny fit and are available up to size 6X (70-inch hip), but are currently restocking. You can sign up to be notified when they're available!
For a more traditional work overall, Dickies' plus relaxed fit bib overalls ($59.99) are a great option! The black wash is a bit undersaturated, but it's still a nice solid, even color that doesn't look distressed, stonewashed, sandblasted, etc. Available up to size 24W (51-inch hip).
The A3 Denim stretch denim cuffed overalls ($28.99) from Walmart come in sizes up to 26W (56-inch hip) and have a straight leg with a cuffed hem. These are a nice true black with pewter-colored hardware.

simon ‘ghost’ riley x fem!reader
suggested plus sized
hope you enjoy!!!
jess. his baby sister. the shit he’d do for her. simon’s been on leave ever since he got shot in the shoulder during a mission. was told he has to wait till it fully heals before coming back. it’s bullshit he thought, he’s perfectly fine. but anyways here he was driving to her apartment to feed her cats.
she’s on a work trip and said you wouldn’t be home either. which kinda bummed him out, he hasn’t seen you in years.
y/n l/n. god you were his dream girl. absolutely stunning and a heart of gold. you had been friends with jess since you were little. damn near came out the womb together. and ever since he could remember he had the fattest crush on you. thought it would go away once he did but it didn’t, it festered and grew into an obsession really. he would see the pictures and posts his sister sent him. trying to keep him up to date on what was happening in her life (and yours). jess knew about his crush on you, has for a long time, but she never told you. something simon was always grateful for.
growing up your mom constantly took pictures, whether it was you and jess or you and him. was always making sure to get some of the two of you. back then he hated it, didn’t understand why he needed pictures with you when you were jess’s friend. but now he was glad she did it, he would look at those pictures for hours. remembering how happy he was then. how much he enjoyed being carefree. and how much he enjoyed your company.
he hates to admit how many times he catches himself thinking of you. looking at the pictures his sister sent him or the ones of when you were younger. he loved the ones of you doing mundane things like reading, talking, sleeping, shopping, cleaning, ect. always imagined what it would be like if he was the one there taking the pictures.
………………………………………………………………………
unlocking the door and walking in he was immediately met by two cats rubbing against his legs. one was orange with stripes and had different colored eyes. the other was solid black with blue eyes that felt like it was looking into his soul. after petting them for a good minute he remembers why he’s there. walking over to where he sees their food dishes, he bends down to pick them up but stops when he hears voices. standing up he walks towards them, leading right to a closed door.
shaking his head and chuckling to himself, one of you left a tv and some sort of red light on. grabbing the handle and turning, he opens the door and freezes. there you are laying on your bed completely nude as you fuck yourself with a pink toy. and the voices he heard wasn’t tv but porn. he’s glued to his spot, can’t look away or leave. he’s thought about this so much. he’s dreamed about you like this. his brain is fried with all of the thoughts racing around.
he needs to say something. he can’t let you continue while he’s there. he racks up the courage and just as he’s about to say your name you interrupt him.
“oh fuck simon! just like that baby.” you moan out. you look so erotic, your hairs all over the place. body covered in a layer of sweat, one hand groping your breasts as the other has set a fast pace with the pink toy. head thrown back and toes curling. the red lights make you look 10x sexier.
simon had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. now he stands there looming in your doorway watching you pleasures yourself to the thought of him. he’s so hard in his jeans, tip leaking so much there’s probably a wet spot.
he watches as your body starts to twitch and shudder, your orgasm close by. but it doesn’t come and he can tell it happens a lot with your reaction. you start whining and curl into yourself. soft sobs leaving your mouth as you give up. so frustrated with yourself for not being able to cum.
now’s as good as time as any to make himself know, at least he hopes so.
“y/n?” he says. feels like is came out like a whisper but with the way your body jumped you’d like he yelled it.
sitting up on your bed with your bedsheets gripped into your hands covering you, you stare at him. if you didn’t know who it was from just his voice it would’ve been a scary sight. this giant of a man standing in the dark of the hallway stiff as a board with a mask on.
“simon? what the hell are you doing here?” your voice shaky from crying. eyes as big as they could get.
“jess said you wouldn’t be home and someone needed to feed the cats.” you watch as he starts playing with his fingers. he’s nervous!
“she’s a liar. she knew i’d be home.” you tell him. she did this on purpose. she knows how you feel about him.
“okay, i should um- i should go then.” he nods his head in the direction of the door. turning his body as he begins to leave.
“wait.” you don’t know why you said it. his body halts and turns back towards you. you reach out and pay the bed, motioning for him to sit by you.
with stiff steps he walks over to your bed and sits down. on the very edge and at the foot of the bed. you giggle, he hasn’t changed a bit.
“why so far away?” you ask. “i don’t bite.” you started to crawl towards him. “unless you want me to.” you whisper in his ear. you feel him shudder and tense up more at your words.
leaning back you finally take him in. in the better lighting of your room you can see him much better. how broad his shoulders have gotten and how thick his arms and thighs are. and you can definitely see the tent in his pants, has you clenching your legs together. his eyes are squeezed shut which is the perfect opportunity for you to reach your hand out and feel him. placing your hand on the very prominent bulge in his pants as you stare at his masked face.
his eyes open wide as you start moving your hand. picking up the pace you can hear the grunts and groans he’s letting out. eyes looking down at your hand through his balaclava.
pulling your hand away earns you a whine from him. eyes blown out as they look desperate for you to keep touching him. you let the blankets go and stand up in front of him. his eyes trailing all over your body, from your face to your heavy breasts to the curves of your hips and ass to your thick thighs that he’s thought about to many times to count and lastly to your pussy. he can see it glistening in the lighting from your room. he had to squeeze his eyes shut to stop himself from cumming in his pants.
reaching out you push him back by his shoulders. his body falls back with a bounce as you crawl on top of him. leg’s straddling him as your wet cunt sits directly on his covered cock. both of you letting out a moan at that feeling.
he’s in awe. you’re so gorgeous. so perfect.
putting your hands on the bed next to him you lean down and start leaving kisses over his mask. his jaw, cheeks, nose, forehead, neck, and lastly his lips. just a brush of yours over his and you can feel him chase you as you pull away. a smile on your face as you look into his eyes. grabbing onto his shoulders as you start to rock your hips against his.
his hands shoot up and grab you by the fat of your hips. dragging you down onto his cock as his head is thrown back and he moans out. fingers digging into you skin, definitely gonna bruise but you don’t care. the feeling of your clit catching on the rough material of his jeans is the only thing going through that pretty little head of yours.
bucking his hips into you didn’t help the feeling of your fast approaching orgasm. with an especially hard grind and buck, that knot snapped. whining and moaning his name as you started to rapidly hump against him to prolong your high. once your high came down and you both stopped moving you looked down at where you sat. his dark washed jeans now even darker from your release. you can still feel his hard cock through his pants, so you scoot back until your off his lap and the bed. simon sits up and goes to get up before you stop him.
“i’m not done with you yet si.” you say as you push him back. reaching down and undoing his belt buckle and pants. with a tap to his hips he lifts them so you can pull his jeans and boxers down. when they reach his ankles you kicks them off. left naked from the waist down wasn’t enough for you. trailing your nails up the meat of his thighs to his waist. you slide your hands under his shirt and begin the lift it. he gets the hint and takes it off, throwing it somewhere in your room.
you stand there staring at his fully naked body, tan skin covered in scars. some old, some pink and healing and some fresh. like the puckered one on his left shoulder. that same scarred up skin is also covered in tattoos. full arm sleeves that bleed onto his chest and back. couple chest pieces and a whole canvas on his back. he’s the epitome of sexy!
“just gonna stare the whole time?” even without being able to see his face you could heat the smirk in his voice as he lays there on his elbows letting you oogle and drool at him.
“shut up.” you smile and roll your eyes as you climb back onto his lap except this time there are no barriers. sitting above him makes you feel like a goddess with the way he looks at you. he’s aloft and full of adoration but at the same time lust.
lowering your body onto his was a sign of relief. the feeling of his cock sliding between your folds as his head catches against your sensitive clit was breathtaking. his hands gripping your hips as he holds you still, afraid he’ll come if you move.
“y/n please! don’t tease.” he whines and it causes you you to clench around nothing. eyes big and sad as if he’d cry if you didn’t sit on his cock.
knowing you’re in the same boat, you lift you hips and grab his dick by the base. your fingers not even touching as they circle it. rubbing his tip through your lips collecting your juices before stopping at you hole and pushing in. you knew it would be a tight squeeze, especially from the size of him. but you didn’t care. you just wanted him inside you as soon as possible.
looking at his you can see his eyes aren’t looking at you but at where you’re connected. watching your pussy stretches to take him and sink down upon him, it’s quite the sight. once he’s finally jilted you stay still for a few letting yourself adjust to his size and the feeling of being overly full.
with your hands planted on his pecks you lift yourself up and slide back down. the feeling that hit you when you started to bounce on his cock was one you most definitely welcomed with open arms. his dick hitting all the right places, one in particular was enough to make you see stars.
“fuck you feel so good. so tight and warm, i’m not gonna last like this.” his voice gruff like he just woke up. after saying this he began to fuck his hips up into yours. meeting your bounces half way.
“oh shit, yes yes! right ther- don’t stop!” your nails digging into his chest leaving scratches all over. you lean down and start kissing along his collarbone and that of his neck that’s exposed.
“fuck it!” you hear him mumble. just as you were about to ask what he meant, he reached up and yanks his balaclava off and throwing it somewhere in your room with the rest of your clothes.
you didn’t have time to register what happened as he grabs you by the back of the head and smashes your lips to his. the kiss is everything you thought it would be. his lips are soft and plump and his 5 o’clock shadow tickles your face. the kiss is messy and rough, spit everywhere and teeth clashing.
you can feel that knot coming back as he’s still slamming his hips up into you. your pussy clenching and gushing as the knot finally snaps. moaning and crying into the kiss as your hands find their way into his hair pulling on it as you ride out you high.
“get up, i’ll cum on your stomach.” he says trying to lift you off him. he can see the ring of your juices around the base of his cock making him twitch inside you.
“no please cum inside me.” the puppy dog eyes you gave him were the last switch before he came. hips bucking up into you, dick twitching as ripe after hot rope of cum spurted into you. there was so much it made your belly bulge slightly.
pulling out he laid you on the bed next to him and he got up to get a towel. coming back he wiped your body but stopped to stare at his semen dripping out of you. it was enough to make him want to go again but he new you were tired so he cleaned you up and tossed the towel on the floor before laying next to you.
you grab the sheets and cover you both up as you lay your body partially on top of his. leg thrown over his middle and your arm on his chest with your face shoved into his neck. his hand rubbing up and down your back as you two snuggle together.
“you should let it off more often.” you mumble out as sleep starts to take a hold of you. he knew what you meant, his mask. and for you he’d do just that.
with a kiss to your forehead and a gentle squeeze, you both fall asleep.
and the last thing that goes through simons head is that he’s really gotta thank his sister.

Doll review time!
today I received via target the Sunny and Luna Madison two-pack, which i had had my eye on for a while but decided i would wait on a sale for them. and they went on sale recently for 50% off! they were 25 dollars (plus shipping, as my target was unable to let me reserve one for in-store pickup so i had to order them shipped) but in my opinion a very good price for both of them!
Tumblr media
i really appreciate that RH always has the color-coordinated stands. saves me from having to get cheap generic stands every two seconds like with mh LMAO. also, Sunny is actually my first Rainbow high doll, since all my other girls are shadow high! i also noticed that shadow high has slightly different stands with spikes on them as compared to the RH ones.
here's the back of their hair.
Tumblr media
Sunny's hair is CRUNCHY. i'm talking rock solid. for this elaborate hairstyle she has though, i understand why. Even though i could probbaly at least get the four dangling curls looking nicer with a wash and re-curl, for now at least i'm content to leave her as-is. Luna's hair is significantly less crunchy and more in line with the typical amount of gel for this curl pattern. out of the box it is in two distinct halves, but i separted the curls a bit to give her some more volume.
now, for some individual details.
Tumblr media
I'll start with Sunny! In my opinion, she's the clear winner of the pack, and one of the cutest RH designs ever. the reason i was interested in this pack was for her adorable outfit, as well as the fact I like this Luna outfit more than her basic doll.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
first up, her face! Sunny's very cute, but what struck me the most with this doll is her hair clips! she has 5, and theyre all different colors. combined with her shooting star earrings, there's a lot to love. I'm very fond of the yellow and rainbow color scheme of this doll.
Tumblr media
Her shoes! yep, heel crocs. and leg warmers. it's so ridiculous and over the top, just like everything about this outfit. they're perfect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took her jacket off to kook at what she's wearing under it. the little decal on the shirt is surrounded with embroidered safety pins. cute!
the skirt is two layers. the pain white skirt, and the clear plastic with stickers layer over that. i love the pocket details, though they aren't seen much with the shirt and jacket over them. i do like to see that they're there though!
one thing that struck me with this doll is without the jacket, her outfit is actually not very yellow at all! it's mostly white
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as for that tiny jacket, it's as pretty and detailed for its size as i'd espect out of rainbow high. tiny ruffle details, pockets, and drawstrings. on the back is a little cartoon sunny with some more rainbows, and a sun and moon that match her hairclips. also, a little cameo of the bear bag.
I love the decora (i think, correct me if im wrong im not super knowledgeable about jfashion cultures) influences on her. everything has a cute and childish vibe, but while altogether its definitely something i could see one of my more fashionable friends wearing around our college campus. a 10/10 sunny (i think she's definitely the designer's favorite)
next up, Luna!
Tumblr media
Luna is quite pretty as well, and im a sucker for the series one grayscale dolls. they're such a unique concept! however, I feel like she just lacks that last bit of punch that sunny has. maybe because she doesn't have quite as many acccesories? maybe some hairclips for her too, or a necklace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's her face! I love her face in this doll, I'm pretty sure the mold is identical to sunny's (they are twins, after all) but their makeup makes them look really different to me imo. epectually from a distance, Luna looks a bit more mature. in person as well, her eyes are quite clearly a lovely shade of purple, (that isn't too intense as to ruint the grayscale effect) though it seems like it doesn't come off well in the pictures.
Tumblr media
not as many details to show off for Luna, but here's a close-up on the shoes. my roommate said she recognized them so im sure theyre in referece to some designer shoes (as RH/SH often does) that i'm not familiar with.
Tumblr media
nothing particularlt special from the back. but you can see the little attachement loops on the belt to the skirt a bit better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he'res her bag, though it's not as fun as sunny's bear bag, it's quite cute, and light enough that it can be held up by Luna with the small handle, or worn on the shoulder instead. it also opens, which i always like to see.
of course, the customary .5 shots
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Final thoughts: This is my favorite of the twin 2-packs out of RH/SH so far, I think they're gorgeous and well worth the sale price. Sunny in particular is once again proving to be of the most consistently well-designed characters of the whole line (i love her Fantastic Fashion look as well, and while yellow + rainbows is basically always sunny's thing, I think this is the best execution of it out of all her dolls. I also really prefer this luna to her series 1 doll, where the chrome is more contained and it looks more like an actual outfit you might see in a high school. happy to add both of them to my collection!
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading, if you stuck around for this whole long long post lol!

I’m hardly the first person to make this observation, but I’ve been pretty solidly plus-sized for like three years or so due to a crazy amount of mystery weight gain that a lot of my doctors want to chalk up to the “COVID 20” or whatever, which is insanely annoying since for me it’s closer to the COVID 50 even though my habits didn’t change that drastically and also it happened in weird spurts of very rapid weight gain with a few plateaus but whatever. The point is I’ve been plus-sized but I haven’t always been plus-sized so I have perspective from both sides of the size spectrum or whatever and…
Why…why can’t I just find basics easily? Why is it every time someone says, “Oh, this store has plus sizes!” nearly every item is a loud-ass print that’s seems like it’s meant to distract and confuse people so they won’t have to focus on my size or the items are cut so poorly I will not want to wear them? Why are things cut so short-waisted and boxy??? I have a large chest and a long torso, which didn’t magically change just because I gained weight, and I feel like everything is cut boxy so I either have to size up for length, which makes everything feel even more shapeless, or if the store has Tall options (incredibly rare), I’ll order the Tall sizes despite the fact that I’m 5’6”.
None of my jeans fit. None of them. If they fit in the waist, they will be baggy everywhere else because I do tend to gain in my waist. But…like…a lot of women gain in their waists. Why will no jeans fit? I have on jeans right now that are supposed to be skinny cut and not a single person on this planet would think they were anything other than slightly baggy straight-legged jeans. And these aren’t cheap jeans. I often buy Madewell and, more recently, I bought a pair from Talbots.
And there is just so much animal print??? I remember a few years ago when I was first starting to look for plus-sized clothing, like every color option was black or leopard print. Once time, I grabbed some garment thinking it was going to be a solid color, and there was a leopard print racing stripe down the side. Why…why can’t I just get like a pretty green or burgundy or blue shirt with no crazy pattern that isn’t cut as if I’m trying to suffocate myself in cloth? Like, I’m not even looking for revealing clothing or overly tight clothing; I just don’t want to look like I’m trying to dress entirely shapelessly? I historically like swing dresses or A-line dresses and boatneck tshirts and skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans and I feel like my options without dipping into loud prints or just dressing in black every day are extremely limited.
(I know I keep railing against loud prints. Here’s the thing: I occasionally go for a loud print. And if that’s all you love, I think you should wear them every day. But it is insane that I can find like ten color options in straight sizes and then if I hop over to plus sizes, my options are black, leopard print, and some very large floral prints. It very much comes across as, “We need to distract from their bodies with these giant flowers!” when maybe I just want to wear a plain purple shirt occasionally. Or tiny floral print. Or checks. Or stripes. Or anything that doesn’t lean into some “big and brassy” stereotype.)
Anyway, I have a couple of stores where I can usually find some things, but flattering basics have been incredibly difficult. Like, it has already been hard given my past body image issues, past eating disorder, and just getting used to what my body currently feels like, but I’m then routinely presented with this issue of wanting to look and feel like I care about my clothing a little, but mainly having options that make me look entirely frumpy or so loud that I don’t feel like myself.

Drawing drawing means bad kid references! They are all so darling to me <3

[Begin ID] Two drawings of the Bad Kids from Fantasy High. Left to right, they are Adaine, Gorgug, Fabian, Riz, Fig, and Kristen. They all have their arms and legs slightly out, allowing the drawing to show details on sleeves and pants.
Adaine is a white high elf with blonde hair and blue eyes. Her hair is cut just above her shoulders and is tucked behind her ears. She has six pairs of silver earrings- three hoops of descending size and a pair of crescent moons on her lobes, and two bars on the tops of her ears. The largest hoop on her left ear has a chain connecting to one of the bars. She is wearing a fur-lined denim jacket, a purple shirt, blue leggings, and black boots. Text beneath her reads “Adaine O’Shaughnessey. she/her. 5’10”. The People’s Oracle.” With this text is a stylized question mark.
Gorgug is a dark-green-skinned half-orc. His eyes have black sclera and white pupils, and his hair is black with a streak of white. He is smiling, and one fang is poking out of his mouth. He is wearing a grey hoodie, purple sweatpants, black and red headphones, purple socks, and light pink shoes. Text beneath him reads “Gorgug Thistlespring. 6’4”. he/him.” Next to the text is a small bisexual flag.
Fabian is a black half-elf with shaved sides and locs pulled up into a topknot. He has grey eyes and has dark grey stud earrings. He is wearing a black tank top, blue shorts, black-and-red sneakers, and has his white-and-red letterman jacket tied around his waist. He also is wearing a black eyepatch over where his right eye would be, and the patch has a stylized gold “S” at the bottom. There is a scar beneath the eyepatch. Text beneath him reads “Fabian A. Seacaster. 6’1”. he/him.” Drawn beside the text are a trans flag, a bi flag, and the ADHD butterfly.
Riz is a light green goblin. His dark green hair is short and curly, and his eyes are dark green as well. He has a tail the same color as his hair. Riz is wearing a purple vest and a dark purple tie over a white dress shirt. He is wearing purple suit pants, black dress shoes, a tan-and-gold watch, and gold lapel pins. Text beneath him reads “Riz Gukgak, P.I. he/him. 3’6”.” Next to the text is the aroace flag and the autistic infinity symbol.
Fig is a pink-skinned, half-elf tiefling. She has curly brown hair with purple streaks, styled in a braid over her right shoulder. She has light-toned horns, and multiple earrings. She has Ayda’s feather and a small silver hoop on her left lobe, and two small gold hoops on her left upper ear. On her right ear, she has a gold chain connecting two hoops from the top of her ear to her love, and another small hoop at the tip. She has brown eyes. fat clothes bullshit
As it is a fact universally known that once you hit double-digit sizes, clothing that isn’t fugly, uncomfortable, or both becomes hard to find on almost a logarithmic scale, I’ve always got an eye out for somewhere that doesn’t appear to hate its customers in order to spend my fat fashion dollar.
Most recently, I succumbed to the Universal Standard hype. The tl;dr: it is well-fitted decent quality basics for people of all sizes (from US size 00- 40). Every piece is available in every size -there aren’t different ‘plus’ styles - and most pieces come in a wide variety of colors.. It’s slightly more expensive than Torrid (about equivalent with Lane Bryant), and unlike either of those options it doesn’t look like 2003 threw up on it and died.
That said, when I say “basics” I do mean basic. There’s some pieces with construction interest to them like the Meridian asymmetric zip jackets, and there’s some tunics and dresses with interesting shapes, but for the most part it is very much wardrobe-staple type items in simple styles and almost zero prints/plaids/pattern of any kind, even just stripes.
In my opinion, that’s perfect because a) I have a deeply ambivalent relationship with girly shit, and b)  I’m a scarf/shawl/cowl knitter and a jewelry maker; solid colors are a great canvas for statement accessories. But if your jam is more high femme and print/detail interest than clean-lined bordering on gender neutral (a good amount of their clothing, although sized and tailored for AFAB, could certainly read nonbinary or agender depending on the pieces), you might find it uninspiring. However, you may still want to consider their pants and tees  as potential infrastructure to rotate more trendy/dainty pieces around if Torrid or LB is doing that for you now and you don’t love the (lack of) durability.
If any of that sounds like you would like to know more, more specific product reviews behind the readmore.
1) the T-rex/V-rex t-shirts are cotton/modal, soft but heavy enough that I didn’t get bra lines, the colors looked pretty faithful to how they were on screen (enough that I was able to match a pair of pants from another vendor and was still happy when able to physically put the two together) they’re neither baggy nor mad clingy/revealing, and they don’t feel like the hems will be unraveling and holes growing around the stitching after a season. The V of the v-neck does what it needs to do without showing bra; the crew neck that I was ambivalent about getting (wanted the color but generally don’t like crew necks) is cut wide enough that it’s got a little style and doesn’t feel like it’s strangling a person. They’re both decently long enough to not ride up and expose your back when you bend over/long enough to tuck in if that’s how you roll (I am 5′7″ for reference). They feel a lot more quality than Torrid’s basic V-necks and come in a LOT more colors, as long as they wash decently these are worth getting. Keep your eye out for sales.
2) the liquid jersey Genevette top - the fabric is amazing, it’s a slinky rayon that for something as soft as it is just falls straight down without sticking weirdly to any lumps, bumps or bulges. It’s an asymmetrical piece that on me at least falls long enough to be a good length to wear with leggings (same place as on the skinnier model displaying it, kudos to the people who graded the pattern and actually knew what they were doing). I’m just praying I don’t dump coffee on it or something. Will definitely acquire more pieces in this fabric if it washes well.
3) The Meridian Zip jacket’s two-way zipper is actually metal and heavy. It’s almost pure cotton and more structured than I was expecting; if you are looking for “cozy” this isn’t it. It is however warm, easy to wear and fashion enough to get away with in a business casual environment iif like me, sweaters make you itchy and blazers are annoyingly constricting and sweaty. (the autistic person’s go-to office layering piece!) Unfortunately, they’re out of a lot of colors right now after their Mystery Box event. II hope they restock or add more, I would definitely buy another one in the steel or navy if they had it in my size.
4) The sweats I got as a “mystery bonus” item I think they are the Hathaway Jersey Jogger - annoyingly, any “mystery” items you get still don’t have what product they are on the tags when you get them. This is dumb, because how are you supposed to order them again if you liked them? Anyway, they are heavy and soft - not fuzzy, but very drapey/silky unlike the Meridian jacket. They DO have pockets and DON’T have a drawstring, which are exactly what I’m looking for in lounge pants, hooray! I don’t know that I would have paid upfront what these cost for something that’s around-the-house or errand pants, but I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for sales.
5) Universal Standard’s claim to fame are their jeans. To get a taste without a huge price commitment, I got a mystery box with some. I think the ones I ended up with are the Seine skinny midrise in dark wash (again, irritatingly, they are not labeled wth a product name because mystery box.) They are true to size (US gives both size measurements and individual product dimension measurements which is super nice), the waistband is not pinchy and nor does it gap in the back, pockets your whole hand fits in and they don’t creep if you’re getting up and down a lot (LOOKING AT YOU TORRID). The real test of jeans of course is how they come out of their first wash, but they’re a win on try-on and if they wash well, I’d be willing to buy at full price. It gives me some more confidence to try their work pants too, now that I have more faith that their sizing is actually as described.

@citizensofeggton cont.
His expression is flat at her reminder that he'd gone tunnel vision away from his task at hand, albeit seasoned grumpy with an occasional twist of features thanks to a flurry of small hands occasionally grabbing and pulling at whatever could be grabbed, patted and slapped on his face. Kong children weren't exactly docile...especially not when promised ice cream. "Yeah, weeeell...what kinda warrior would I be if I backed down from every little altercation? I'm not a PACIFIST, oh-kayyy? I'm a pass-a-fist-on kinda dude."
"FIST PASS-" Screamed a child near his lower back. His fur flinching is indicative of the kid's knuckles bopping his spine...plus the chorus of any other rider that wanted to participate in the 'fist pass', which seemed to be a sort of game if not invented and taught to them by DK, then was a Kong staple when it came to playing rough. Either or, a couple of kiddie punches has him shaking himself out slightly afterwards, which gives the kids riding the DK bus a reason to scream in delight because he pulls no punches either and actively tries to wag them off like a dog with wet, flea-infested fur.
The straggler seemed to be having fun regardless of catching the tail, giving a few desperate swats before spinning around in a circle mid-walk and with a dizzy giggle - kept swatting more and more inefficiently the dizzier they got themselves.
Tumblr media
"...well for your sake, I hope so. At this age, they could deeeefinitely tear it off." Whether that's true or not, the look on his face is clear that he wants to mess with her. And verbally is the only way now that he's scooping up smaller Kongs that are spilling off him as his walks like water, and sliding them back onto the 'bus' in a motion so practiced it was like he was just fixing his hair as usual. One got away from him and darted ahead to happily bop up at a low-hanging power-up block, managing to hit out a growshroom.
"Kid-don't-!" But it was like trying to convince a starving animal (currently starving for ice cream) to ignore the first food it came across. After biting into the shroom viciously, the runt of the bunch grew...to about a size or two under DK. Nothing major, really-...until she rejoined her peers on his back, which caused him to sink a bit LOW into his knuckles as he crawled forward with a huff and puff. "Y'know...I'm...startin' to think...the power-ups in a vendor is-...the way t'go!" Teeth gritting, he pauses to take a shuddering breath.
"Ugh. Let's just call it charity work. Our uh...education system isn't so solid. But I mean...you can't expect a strong and highly energetic group like us to do well without a little time in the day to collectively lose our minds, sooo ~ I help out where I can. Dad sends a guardsman sometimes too. Those dudes can take all the biting and clawing-"
As the straggler continues their game of catch the tail or spin 25 times in place, they don't seem to notice how close to the edge of the dock they're spinning until they lose one leg over the side and drop, chest and arms slamming against the dockside with while shocked fingers dig in and scratch the wood frantically. The water below might be shallow, but all the colorful coral beds would surely leave anyone taking a walk down there a nasty cut or two.
The movement of the struggle eventually catches the corner of the Kong prince's eye and he quickly forces himself up under the new weight holding him down, prepared to bolt over as soon as he caught his balance so as to not overcalculate a rough rush over that might send them all toppling over the edge in his haste. "Crap!"

1. Timeless Swimwear Classics
Some swimwear styles remain iconic and universally flattering. Here are a few timeless options that are always in fashion:
Bandeau Bikinis: Perfect for avoiding tan lines, bandeau tops are sleek and versatile. Pair them with high-waisted or cheeky bottoms for a balanced look.
One-Piece Swimsuits: Offering elegance and coverage, one-piece swimsuits come in various designs from classic black to vibrant prints. Look for styles with unique necklines or back details to add a touch of modern flair.
Triangle Bikinis: Simple yet stylish, triangle bikinis are adjustable and suit many body types. They’re great for a minimalist, effortless beach look.
2. Hot Trends for 2024
Stay ahead of the curve with these trendy styles in best bikini and swimwear for 2024:
Neon Hues: Bright and bold, neon colors are making a big splash this season. Opt for neon pinks, greens, and oranges to stand out.
High-Cut Bottoms: Inspired by the '80s, high-cut bottoms elongate the legs and create a flattering silhouette.
Textured Fabrics: Ribbed and smocked fabrics add a tactile element to your swimwear, offering both comfort and style.
Eco-Friendly Choices: Sustainable swimwear made from recycled materials is not only trendy but also supports environmental conservation.
3. Perfect Fit for Every Body Type
Finding the best bikini and swimwear is all about the right fit. Here’s how to choose swimwear that flatters your shape:
For Athletic Builds: Create curves with ruffled tops and high-cut bottoms. Bold prints and colors can add dimension to your look.
For Hourglass Figures: Accentuate your waist with high-waisted bottoms or belted one-pieces. Halter tops and plunging necklines highlight your curves.
For Pear Shapes: Balance your proportions by drawing attention to your upper body. Look for embellished tops and darker, solid bottoms.
For Plus Sizes: Opt for supportive and structured swimwear. Underwire tops and high-waisted bottoms provide support and create a flattering shape.
4. Prioritizing Comfort and Quality
The best bikini and swimwear should not only look great but also feel comfortable. Consider these features:
Adjustable Straps: Ensure a customizable and secure fit.
Supportive Cups: Built-in cups or underwire provide necessary support, especially for larger busts.
Quick-Drying Fabrics: Choose materials that dry quickly to stay comfortable out of the water.
5. Accessorizing Your Swimwear
Complete your beach look with the right accessories to complement your best bikini and swimwear:
Stylish Cover-Ups: Flowy kaftans, sarongs, and lightweight dresses are perfect for covering up without sacrificing style.
Sun Hats and Sunglasses: Protect yourself from the sun while adding a fashionable touch to your beach ensemble.
Beach Bags: Choose spacious, stylish totes to carry all your beach essentials.
6. Mix and Match
One of the best ways to express your personal style is by mixing and matching different swimwear pieces. Here are some tips:
Contrast Colors: Pair bold, contrasting colors for a striking look.
Mix Prints: Combine different prints like florals and stripes for a fun, eclectic style.
Combine Textures: Mix smooth fabrics with textured ones to add depth to your outfit.
Conclusion
Selecting the best bikini and swimwear for 2024 is all about finding styles that make you feel confident and comfortable. Whether you prefer classic designs or the latest trends, there are plenty of options to suit your taste and body type.
