Started belly dancing recently - which is fantastic, I love it! - and discovered that a hip belt is vital so the instructor can more easily see what you're actually doing. (And if the belt has coins on it, it will jingle if you move and you'll be able to hear if you're moving incorrectly.)

Plus they're so sparkly and awesome! And they're easy to find if you happen to be straight sized.

But if you're plus sized in the UK? Nope.

There are coin belts that you can tie around yourself at the end of the ties, but the decorated bit will only come to your belly button. It looks stupid and it makes you feel bad. It makes you feel like your body is abnormal and you don't belong in this dance class with all these svelte little people.

What to do about it? Well, obviously, make ones that fit and are fabulous.

I started making them for myself. Then I thought 'maybe other fat people might like them?' And I've put some of them up to sell on Etsy

If you're wondering why they're so pricey compared with the straight sized ones you can get on Amazon or Shein, (I don't understand how they can even buy the materials for that price) it's because

they're made by me (not oppressed sweatshop/prison workers)

they're made from recycled fabric in small batches of what I can get hold of

because of the above, they are either rare or unique

If you can't find one to fit, I will make you one to your individual measurements

May I be permitted to talk about something I'm really proud of???

Ok so, I joined a local dance group last year. It's a vintage chorus girl group that does 20s-70s dance styles (think Charleston, 60s go-go, etc).

We're the resident showgirls at a monthly burlesque show, and for a local lounge/jazz/big band group here in socal. I have preformed more in this last year than I have in years. Honestly maybe ever??? We have easily 2+ gigs a month.

I'm coming up on my one year anniversary of joining this group and I am just so freaking proud of myself! Getting gigs as a plus size dancer is freaking HARD. Especially in the vintage crowd. But I've worked my ass off and I kinda just want to give myself a pat on the back lol (and the group I'm part of, cause not every group would pick a plus size dancer...)

Like wtf?? Who is she?? This woman has birthed two children?

I'm so embarrassed and I feel like this is so cringe but also I'm proud of myself so whatever: I have an Instagram for my stage persona and if anyone was interested in following.... you could... if you wanted.

I was playing Tomodachi life this morning, and PickyPiggy is one of the Islanders I have and she leveled up in friendship so I needed to give her a little gift and one of the gift options was a hula dancing manual and anyway this is a long-winded way of saying, I drew PickyPiggy as a hula dancer

I went back to dancing classes after 15 years and I can see the shift in my self-confidence after starting three months ago. My body feels amazing and I still remember how to bust a move, it almost feels like I'm healing my inner child.

Now I know exactly what Ross Lynch was talking about in previous interviews about how his background as a dancer helped him become confident in his body.
