Dying

James Potter knew he was dead long before Voldemort even raised his wand to him. Before he realised why Peter was looking at him with superficial apology and a shine in his eyes.

He knew he was dead before he saw the flash, and heard the praise of masked assailants directed to the man he once considered one of his closest friends.

James Potter had been dying for a long time now. Honestly this was just the ending of what he’d been waiting for far too long now. He’d been dying since the end of his last year at school but if he really thinks, it started before that. It started the moment he laid eyes on that raven haired boy who consumed his soul until there was nothing left. The boy who James hasn’t seen in years, a part of him would like to imagine the boy living somewhere sweet and safe.

But James knows.

James knows it’s too late, it was too late in school and now he’s too far gone. It’s too late to save him. You can’t save someone who’s intent on being in harms way. Sooner or later he had to learn that, you can’t throw everything away for someone who doesn’t want to be worth anything.

James learnt his lesson. But it hurts that one heartbreak clearly wasn’t enough for the universe. No.

Maybe James Potter was never destined to truly live. Maybe he was meant to be nothing but a contributing factor to a character arc in someone else’s story. A filler character.

James can accept that that was his purpose. But he cannot accept that it was the point of the raven haired boy with the golden snitch. Well, the snitch is in James’ bedside cabinet now but he knows who it really belongs to. Doesn’t matter how long he holds onto it, it’s not his. Nothing in his story ever really was.

No, that’s not right. The dark haired boy was his. His. To have and to hold. But all things good and bad come to an end as they must do, what goes up must come down and boy did this one crash and burn. Stars exploding in the final crunch of the universe, at least to James. His universe.

If James’ only point is to be a filler for the next generation than maybe he can at least stall the inevitable.

So yes, James knew he was dead from the moment he opened that door. But if there was any chance he could protect the one truly good thing he’d ever done he was going to do it. And that was his family.

Surely it’s no result of his influence that they turned out so perfect, James has always been rotten but he does a lot better at hiding it than he should. But that’s what they are, perfect. In another life James would be truly satiated with just them, it would be all he needed. But James is selfish, selfish and ungrateful and he doesn’t deserve all he’s been given. He’s always known that.

But maybe for the first time in his life he can do something good, he can save something good.

So he opens the door unarmed and when he sees the flash of green he doesn’t flinch. Because maybe, just maybe, there’s a certain raven haired boy waiting for him on the other side of it.

after scrolling through your posts i felt complelled to send an ask (i wonder why)

This kinda? relates to all the languages posts you've been making (was giggling and kicking my feet while reading them, and got inspired) but because I only speak English, I wanted to put a twist on it.

Creator who has audio processing issues and doesn't realise that Teyvat DOES actually speak the same language as them for a good while.

Because as a person with very good hearing, i sure don't fucking understand what people are saying most of the time, especially in big crowds. (its like listening to the sims sometimes man, i'm fighting for my life trying to understand😭)

So imagine a Creator getting dropped into Teyvat and getting found by a group of hunters or treasure horders, who instantly start panicking and talking all at once because 'omg our god is here' and all that.

And the Creator is still confused and diorientated, so all they're hearing is ✨words✨and they just assume that no one in Teyvat will understand them.

And then when they arrive in one of the nations and get to meet the vision bearers for the first time, the Creator makes a thirsty comment about one of them (probably would be Diluc in my case) and the entire crowd just goes SILENT.

So silent that the Creator can perfectlly understand what that vision bearer said in response.

Honestly bc u probably arent trying to talk back to them (which they dont rlly know why? Bc they totally have heard ur voice while u were in ur world, when they were ur vessels)

They kinda assumed either A. You lost your voice B. You're overwhelmed, ppl r getting WAY too close to you, back off Npcs C. Or you don't speak THEIR language

So ofc Mondstadt brings you into the city and their planning a big ol festival, u came right in time for Windblume anyway, and by the time your done shaking hands and just waving and smiling (bc what else can u do u cant hear these fuckers, maybe u caught a "the" or a "hello" but you could've definitely been imagining it)

And finally you are free of the general crowd, but most of the Vision bearers (Allogenes) who were ur vessels wanna stick around, so u all end up in Angel's Share somehow

It's hella packed, and it's a bar.

So yeah u still can't hear shit, and now it just sounds like one of those fantasy medieval bar audios ambience videos

Ur just kinda kicking ur feetsies on a bar stool while like,, 4 or 5 differrent special character dishes are sitting in front of you

Diluc's behind the bar, and has been so sweetly attentive to you all evening, no matter how many tipsy patrons come up yelling for refills or drinks (or at least thats what u assume, bc u kinda end up just,, jumping and hitching ur shoulders up and trying to be lowkey about covering ur ears...)

He always comes and refills ur glass when it gets to even half-full, swiping away plates that have gone cold, and if you still want smth off of it, he's so perceptive no language needed bc he just sees your face and starts heating up the plate again with his vision with his hand :)

He's actually been the best thruout all this bc he already isn't super talkative, so ur pretty sure you've only seen his mouth open a few times, but otherwise u just communicated with him via actions/expressions

So ur chilling, well sorta, ur starting to kinda get overstimulated by the day and now this loud ass bar, and the fact that ur convinced no one speaks English here...

But hey!

Diluc's cool, u got food, and maybe u can charade to him u wanna find somewhere to retire to now for the night,,

You try and do that but he's pretty busy running around still,

"Damn, at least I get to see his ass though."

He's caught between facing you and turning around and ducking back into the kitchen and never coming out again (unless it's just you two)

i would Also like to apologize in advance because fr me this is one of those Art Things that becomes more intuitive the more u do it so i am a bit. lost as 2 how to explain but i will sukuna voice ganbare ganbare !!!!

it’s all about light sources babes so pick a direction where the light is hitting from and use that as your main point of reference. If u need to remind yourself where the light is coming from i was taught to draw a lil arrow or sun somewhere on your canvas 2 keep track . areas closest to the light or planes that are more Elevated will be brighter than areas farther away or Deeper. When u think of a face, the forehead and cheeks rest Higher than fr example, the eye sockets, so those areas will catch more light and appear brighter. it /is/ kind of like makeup in that way. 

also, shadows/highlights can have soft or hard edges depending on how . uh . intense, i guess?? the angle of the light is. like with a box vs a sphere, the former will have a lot more Cut and Defined areas of darkness because the plane where light hits is cut off more directly by the presence of a corner, whereas with a sphere the Slope means that the values follow more of a gradient. 

tbh tho if you’re still starting out, to practice light sources and shading it actually might be good to scribble and shade some 3D shapes and spheres/boxes or maybe even draw from life so u can really take time 2 pay attn to how light catches different surfaces . it’s boring work but the practice is never wasted !! lighting can be tricky so try and take the time 2 form Good habits :'> references r ur friends here now more than ever.

other than that, which i feel more or less covers the basics n fundamentals, my wisdoms 2 u and any1 else who will have it: INVEST TIME IN2 FINDING GOOD BRUSHES omg i feel like a lot of that New Artist Look (tm) comes from using default brushes —which on its own is fine, but the kicker is not taking time to get comfortable with how to make the best use of them. the fun of the render is getting to play with textures and colours so find some brush settings that help add a bit of personality!! also . resist defaulting 2 the airbrush tool to shade it Rarely cooperates and can muddy a piece. uhhhh what else what else try not to shade with black for the same reasons ???? i'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here but i hope something here was of any value :'>>

Headshots!

so, recently, my art skills have been taking off from silly little doodles, and I'm now starting a headshots sketchbook of DR characters! I started this a few months ago, and got back on track a couple weeks ago, so here is my progress!

I started by drawing Peko back in April, it's messy but I was proud of it.

Then I continued by drawing Mondus and Celes. Still a bit messy, but I had fun experimenting.

This drawing was a week ago, I was planning on making an oc but changed it up and now we have an inaccurate genderbend shuichi because why not.

A bit messy, but I had so much fun drawing some headcanons with miu! (Messy hair, BIG lashes and eye-liner, scars from her accident, yadayada)

Then I drew rat-ho (rantaro) and I didn't like how it turned out, but I did try some new things which meant that in my eyes I did well. (Backgrounds, perspective, folds/different sleeves, different kind of hair)

So why not draw smoogie next? She planned everything super well but lost in the end, she probably felt numb. I still like this piece :3

This is from like... yesterday😭👍 I GOT OVER MYSELF AND DREW KOKICHI AND IT WORKED!!!! I'm super happy with how this turned out, and decided to experiment with the background. I was just doodling things about kokichi but then I decided to draw kaitos jacket because yk.. that scene... with the smoosh. (Sorry for the minor spoilers people)

Then I doodled Angie during her non stop debates with the sun and flowers etc. Bc... why not. I also dos this with the light of the TV only so... that's fun!

And now my favourite drawing of my least favourite character lmao. Hiyoko! Her smile looks genuine here imo. I also started to learn how to refine the lines so it didn't look so sketchy, I experimented with backgrounds again (second island) and now I have ny latest wip!

Not my favourite, but I decided to talent-swap it. I hc this character to love (the genre of talent) and go ALL OUT. She's from sdr2, who do you think it is? Which talent does she have?

Means I'll be drawing shsl (character ultimate) with the other character she swapped with... which will be hard.

I can try and draw characters together in fanart if you request it but I haven't done that before so beware lmao.

idk i’m sad that i had faith, I’m sad that this country has proven time and time again that if you’re not a straight white cis het man you have no rights no matter what. i’m sad for all the little girls out there who found out last night that no matter how qualified, educated, poised or empathetic you are you will lose to an awful and under qualified older white man. i’m sad at how much black women put their hearts, body, mind, and soul to protect this country and their right to exist and we continue to just spit in their face every chance we get. i know the sadness will pass and we need to come together to protect our communities and safe spaces but right now mourning the hope that died last night is also okay. the best thing to do is come together in your own communities and protect them. reach out and help yourselves. we’re gonna need each other these next few years. we can mourn, feel defeated but let’s not let it last forever.
