48 hours - chapter one

a/n im almost done with my matt x ex black widow! fic, and i really wanted to have it done before my friends come visit for NYE but im not sure it'll happen and i really wanted to give you guys something before i disappear for my tiny reunion bc yall have been so supportive with the BW fic so here's a very mini series idea that came to me...

i wanted to write this bc this idea has been so soft in my head for the past couple of days and ive been binging jane the virgin again so im all over the ‘even when im pissed off, i’m going to show up bc that’s what family does’ trope bc it fits so well with matt bc of all the secrets he keeps lmaoo

also the timeline for the actual show was not my priority in making this and you can kinda tell lol so pls don’t dwell on the details on who knows matt’s identity and other stuff

summary: After finding out that Matt Murdock, the lawyer you’ve been working closely with and befriended faster than you thought possible, is actually Daredevil, you’re not sure you’ll ever be able to trust him again. But that doesn’t mean you have the heart to leave him to face his demons on his own. So you agree to stay around for 48 hours, because that’s the only way to assure that he won’t do something stupid (which is extortion if you think about it, but what are you going to do) Too bad the main problem with being alone with him is that it makes ignoring those budding feelings you’d been fighting against that much harder to ignore.

trigger warnings: i cant write someone being mad without sounding kinda annoying bc i only know how to be petty lmao, emotional dependency (not the healthiest relationship take lowkey lol but it gets resolved by the end of the mini-series, i promise), matt lowkey being toxic 😳but that one's on me (it gets fixed and kinda justified lol it just doesn't look great without the context that you get at the end of the mini-series)

Foggy and Karen left. Either my (not so) subtle jabs and dirty looks were too much or they came to the conclusion that the only person that should and could deal with the real fall out of what happened a few hours ago was Matt. What made them think it was a good idea to let such an injured man face the blunt of my anger, I have no idea. I guess it has to do with the fact that apparently Matt can take a lot more than he’s been letting on.

He’s still slumped on the couch, body wilted in on itself, broken and bruised. A strange combination of guilt and fury twist in me. I want to help him; I want to pick up the stupid vase on his ottoman and throw it at his head. How could I have been so stupid?

Matt shifts, a soft groan falling from his lips. Great, he’s awake. That’s part of the reason everyone left so quickly...they knew that I’d have stormed out of Matt’s apartment if anyone else was there to make sure that he didn’t bleed out to death on his couch. A very unlikely thing, but my conscience wouldn’t let me walk away until I saw him awake.

And now I’ve seen him awake, so there’s no point in still being here. He’s silent, and his face is turned away from me, so I can’t see if his eyes are open, but I know that he’s awake. Which apparently means he knows I’m standing here.

“I know you’re awake,” I mumble, “and that that means you know I’m here.” I scoff, crossing my arms in front of me. “Apparently.”

He twists his body against the couch. His movements are rigid, pained. I want to move. I want to help him, but all of my energy is going into staying together and not succumbing to the strangled feeling in my throat.

It’s choking me. The feeling of shock, of worry, of anger, and of--of betrayal. All of those sentiments swirl in my chest, pulsing through my body at a rate that’s nauseating.

And now he’s just staring at me--wide, brown eyes swirling with emotions I don’t understand. Emotions I don’t want to understand, because if I let myself think about it, about how alone he must feel right now, I’ll push aside everything I’m feeling.

He’s not a villain for this. He doesn’t owe you anything. The rational part of me reflects on these thoughts as he blinks at me, waiting for some kind of response. He’s in pain, that much is clear, and just standing here goes against all of my instincts. I’ve never seen him this broken before, but I guess I apparently have. I’ve helped Daredevil--I, I cleaned deep wounds for him at least three times, and I’ve aided Matt Murdock more than I can count. But apparently all of that was unnecessary.

“Can you tell what I’m thinking too or do you still need me to say that out loud?”

The corners of his mouth pull down, he’s practically wincing. “I can’t--I’ve never been able to read minds. Being able to hear someone’s breathing patterns isn’t exactly telepathy.”

I grind my teeth together. “You’re not actually trying to be funny right now.” He can’t brush this aside, smooth over this revelation with his soft little half smiles and heart torn eyes. “Because I’m not even sure if you’re actually blind or if that’s all a cover so that people don’t know that you’re--”

“I’m blind.” He moves like he wants to sit up, but the motion is never completed. Matt cuts himself off with a wince. My nails dig into my palms to stop myself from rushing towards him. “I can’t see the way other people see, but I can--there are things I sense, things I hear, things I smell.” He swallows once. “And I--I don’t tell people, obviously. But I--I’ll tell you everything, if you’ll listen, I’ll--”

“Don’t waste your breath.” I mean it, I mean it with my entire chest and a small part of me hates myself for it. And I--I resent him for making me feel this way about him. “I won’t believe any of it anyways, and to be honest, I don’t see the point in talking when I don’t even know who I’m talking to.” My voice almost wavers, his eyes turn into even deeper vats of emotion. Don’t look at them. Don’t fall for it. “So Matt Murdock, good guy lawyer, or the illusive Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, or whoever the hell you are--goodbye.”

The last word hurts the most. It’s an ending without a conclusion. A sore wound destined to never heal. I swallow the grief that lumps in my throat as I turn towards the door to his apartment.

“L/n.” My name is tired but not soft. Keep walking. I hear him shift against his couch, and once again the urge to help him is drowning me. He doesn’t need your help, if he’s capable of jumping over dumpsters and fighting crime bosses, he’s capable of walking in his own damn apartment. “Y--y/n, don’t go.” My nails dig even further into the palm of my skin. Go. “It’s not--this isn’t about me, there are people that want to hurt you and I--I can’t protect you right now.”

How hurt must he be for him to openly admit that he can’t do anything right now? My stomach knots. Stop caring. “Have you ever stopped for a second to consider that maybe I don’t want your protection? I’ve lived most of my life without you, placing myself in risky situations for my career, and I’ve managed. So just--stay here, try not to get anything infected, and leave me alone.”

“The people that you’ve written those articles about are nothing compared to the kinds of people I’m dealing with. And they’re going to go after you.”

The seriousness of his tone is enough to make me hesitate. I’m furious at him, but it’s not like I can dismiss facts. “What--what makes you think they’d go after me?”

He hesitates, expression still mortally wounded in a way that makes me desperate to comfort him. “They’ve seen you with me.”

“You mean they’ve seen me with your vigilante alter ego.” He’s silent, I cross my arms over my chest. “Who I’ve--cleaned wounds for and-and talked to about personal things, and the entire time it was actually you. And you let me come into the office the next day and you--you knew what I was thinking, what I had gone through the night before, and you didn’t--” This is such a stupid thing to dwell on. “And--and Foggy knew, and Karen knew, and--you all knew and you let me be such an idiot!” I clamp my mouth shut after those words. There it is, for both of us to see--the deepest part of my emotional wound.

Matt stills for a moment, and then all of his strength goes into him shifting into a sitting position. His expression remains hard, pained. I push down the instinct to do something, anything. “L/n.” I should run out of here. I should have run out of here the moment I realized he was still alive and my conscience was made clear by the fact that I didn’t let him bleed out on his couch. “That’s what this is about.”

“No, this is about the fact that you’re an untrustworthy liar that made me feel like I was going crazy.” My stomach knots, but its too late to back down. “And also, maybe, a little bit about the fact that I finally felt like I found people. My people, good people that I could trust.”

“You did. You have.” I scoff. “We just wanted to protect you.” The pleading behind his eyes is unbearable. “I just wanted to protect you, and I made them keep it from you.”

“You know my entire life I’ve always felt like I’ve cared more about other people than they do about me. I’ve had so many people use me for stories or my--my family, and I thought I finally found something more than that.” My voice is shaking, and I’m torn between running out of his apartment and punching him in the stomach or something else stupid and petty. “And you took that from me--and that--that really sucks.”

“I know.” He has no defense. There is no defense.

My shoulders fall. “I have an article due tomorrow night, so...” Not the ending I want, but maybe that’s for the best. I’m not in the headspace to get closure...nothing permanent will bring me peace right now. “I um--I don’t think I’ll be in the office tomorrow.”

He shifts again, with a little more force. I think he’s trying to stand. Don’t help. “L/n.” My last name again, what he’s called me most since the day I first met him. It no longer makes my stomach flutter the way it once did. Or, I guess it still kind of does, but these butterflies are different...these hurt. “Don’t.”

“Don’t what? Have a totally normal reaction to realizing that every important person in my life has been lying to me?” I shake my head, the irony of it all making me want to laugh. “You know I thought the biggest lie I’d have to deal with this year is finding out about all the criminal things my dad had been doing and the origin of our family money. But no, the biggest lie has to do with my dad’s enemy who happens--”

“It wasn’t like that. You know it wasn’t like that.” A lie is a lie. It doesn’t matter. “Your father lied to manipulate you into thinking he changed, I kept a secret so that you’d be safe.”

Whatever. It doesn’t matter. “I won’t be in tomorrow,” I repeat, voice a little more settled. Resigned. I wish I could say I never want to see him again. I wish I could feel like that--like I have the strength to not care about what happens to him. “If you could um--if you could text me or get someone to text me every day or every other day?” My face burns. I wipe my face with the back of my palm. “I don’t think I’ll text back, but I’ll be able to sleep, and I don’t know what you owe me, but I think it’s at least that much.”

I reach for the front door, finally pulling it open. The air in the hall feels a lot colder than it did before. Some sound I can’t name forces me to stop. It’s--it’s broken. I turn around despite myself...he’s...I think he’s crying, but there’s something more to the sound than tears. Something desperate and breathy. Is he hyperventilating?

“Matt?” My voice is smaller than I wanted it to be and my hand has yet to let go of the door to his apartment.

I turn on my heels, nervously looking behind me. He’s slumped forward, his back hunched in a way that makes it impossible to see his face. Is he--no, walk away. You don’t care. I will myself to move, to remember all the lying and the confusion I felt and...screw it, who am I kidding? I give into my instincts, rushing to his side on the couch.

My hand is on his shoulder before I can stop myself. “H-hey, you’re okay.”

He shakes his head. I catch more of the bruises on the left side of his face than I had before. Pity pulses through me. “Don’t go.” Now his voice is small. Smaller than I’ve ever heard it be. “Don’t--I don’t know what--”

“Matt...” Okay, I don’t have to be vindictive about the whole walking out on him thing right now. There will be plenty of time to be angry with him later, once he’s more stable and--and better. “This isn’t fair.” He says nothing, still too lost in his crisis. “You really hurt me, and I’m allowed to be mad at you. I should be able to be mad without feeling guilty.” I run my hand up and down his arm as gently as possible. He exhales lightly at the extended contact. I bite my tongue to avoid losing anymore self control. “I’m going to go, and you’re going to be okay.”

My fingers slowly detach themselves from him. I pull away with a patience I don’t feel. I move to stand, but at the last second his hand latches onto my arm. “Don’t go, I--I know what they’re planning.”

“Planning?”

He winces when I pull away from his touch. “They’re going to go after you because of me.” The guilt in his voice is another knife in my stomach. “You know it’s true.” My breath catches in my chest. Matt must sense it, or hear it, or whatever he does, because he shifts again. When he grabs my forearm, I let him. “Be as mad as you want, but be mad here.”

I swallow once, forcing my back to straighten. A clean, healthy break. We need it. “Matt--”

He moves again, his fingers tactfully pressing into my skin. “I need you.” The words hang there, as heavy as my heart. “And that’s not--that’s not something that I can just say.”

Oh my god...Okay, I have to get out of here. Now or never. Just stand up, just--ugh. Who the hell am I kidding? “You know you’re really good at laying on the guilt when you want to.”

“One of the many benefits of being a devoted Catholic.”

If things were any better, I’d laugh. But they’re not. “I um-I really appreciate what you said, I know that that’s not easy for you.”

His eyes are doing that terribly compelling, kicked puppy thing. How can I want to be away from him as badly as I want to be near him? He moves his hand slowly, cautiously. I let him intertwine our fingers. Matt drops his head slightly, lifting our joined hands to his forehead. I sigh, ignoring the sentiments that bubble in my chest. Okay, two minutes, I can sit here for two minutes--that won’t kill anyone. Probably.

He moves my hand again. I let him until I feel the brush of his lips against the back of my palm. Even before I was this angry, I was wary of soft gestures like that. “What are--” No, don’t ask what he’s doing, just make sure he stops it. “What you’re doing isn’t healthy and it’s not going to work.” I mean it--or at least, I want to mean it with every fiber of my being. “I can’t trust you anymore and that hurts and I--I need time to deal with that. Alone. And there’s nothing you can do or say to change that, to change what you did.”

Matt’s silence is not safe. It doesn’t feel like acceptance because that would be too easy. He’s plotting, he has to be. “Are you sure?” What kind of question is that? “I’ll do anything.” I stay still, ignoring the nerves swelling in my chest. “I’ll do anything you want, l/n. Just--just don’t go.”

I press my lips together into a hard line. His stupid, soft eyes and messy hair...and the-the needy look behind his eyes. I’m only human. I have weaknesses. Okay--I’ve hit my limit, if I don’t get out now, I may never follow through. “What I want is to feel like I can trust you.” I pull my hand away, creating the distance between us that I need to be capable of rational thought. “And to feel like you’re not going to do something stupid while all those ribs are still broken and your lung is partially collapsed or...”

“Okay.” His voice is so assured, so certain, my panic stalls.

“What do you mean okay?”

He still looks like a rejected puppy. “Stay and--and I’ll take the night off. I’ll focus on meditating and I’ll answer all of your questions if you want to ask, and--”

Is he really using the fact that I don’t want him hunting down dangerous criminals while he’s half dead to his advantage? “Are you seriously trying to extort me right now?” I sigh, anger and dread spiking in me all over again. “And--and meditating? What does that have to do with anything?”

“I heal faster when I meditate.”

Uneasy laughter cuts through me. The sound must be more nervous than I thought because Matt stalls. “I’m sorry--you heal faster when you meditate? Why did you never call Tony Stark? You have enough going on to be a freaking Avenger or something.”

His expression makes it clear that he doesn’t know whether or not I’m actually snapping. “It’d get in the way of the day job.”

“Right, the ever important separate worlds thing. That’s why you kept me around, right?” I scratch the back of my arm, discomfort settling in my stomach. “Everyone in your circle knew the truth and you wanted to feel normal and you met me and could tell how much I wanted to belong somewhere and--”

“No,” he tries to sit up further, but his body is too tired, “it wasn’t like that at all. You know that.”

“Do I?” I sit up a little straighter. “What um--what was real and what was fake?” My eyes focus on the wall in front of him. “About us, I mean, because I--I really cared about—I still care about you because I’m still sitting on this couch even though I should have left the second I was sure you weren’t going to bleed out.”

“All of it.”

“Even when you were comforting me over my father? Or were you just trying to get the information you needed to stop him?”

He frowns. “Y/n--”

“Forget it.” I wipe my hands on my jeans. “It doesn’t matter now.”

“It does.”

I shake my head once even though he can’t see it. “So you think people are after me?”

Matt hesitates. “...I know they are.”

His tone is clear--he’s not going to give me any details on how he’s so sure that I’m in danger. “And if--if I stay you’re not going to do anything stupid until you’re better?”

“I think Hell’s Kitchen will survive a night without me.”

Oh--he’s insane. I blink twice, shocked at how one person can be so deluded. “A night? No--I saw how much blood you lost.” He opens his mouth to protest, but he’s gotten his way enough today. “And keep in mind how angry I am and what you’re asking of me. You need a full recovery.”

“I’ll be honest about how I’m feeling in the morning.”

He is in no position to negotiate. “The only person in any position to make arguments here is me, and I saw you throw up blood, and--and Foggy had to say a lot to keep me from dragging your ass to a hospital.” I should have just left him outside of an ER. “72 hours--that’s standard for—“

“You don’t know what I need--”

“No, but I know that our entire friendship was based on lies.”

Now it’s his turn to press his lips together. “It wasn’t.”

“Tell that to my father, who you got arrested with information that you got from me when I thought you were just my friend.” I fold my hands on my lap. “You know I would have helped you if you had just told me the truth.”

Maybe my voice sounds just small enough to appeal to the part of him that’s decent enough to feel bad about all the lying. “48 hours. I’ll stay if you stay.”

I wipe my face with the palm of my hand, inhaling sharply in an attempt to clear my thoughts. Two days with him is the last thing I want right now. “Fine.” This doesn’t mean anything...he’s feeling panicky now, but that will pass, and then I’ll be able to walk away and deal with my own hurt. “But I’m not going to be nice to you, and I’m only doing it so that I don’t have to end up writing a news article about a dead body in a devil’s suit found in a dumpster.”

His expression is still tinged by that sad, innocent look. “The people here need me in that suit, I’m not going to apologize for that.”

“And I needed you.” Great, this is a level of vulnerability I didn’t want to reach here. “I needed you as a friend, as someone I trusted.” I grip the arm of his couch as I force myself to stand. “I’m going to the bathroom.”

These next 48 hours are going to be so much fun.

Hey y’all so I’m taking my friend who has never seen an mcu movie to see Black Widow bc she loves Florence and is very excited but Needs Help with background information. A Basic Guide to Natasha Romanoff

Iron Man 2 (2010)

We meet Natasha

She’s a spy

Works for SHIELD (government organization like department of defense kinda)

Not very important to her story she’s just there to meet Tony Stark/Iron Man and be hot for the male audience

The Avengers (2012)

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Natasha and Steve Rogers/Captain America learn that SHIELD is really Hydra (a nazi science organization so that’s obviously not good)

They take it down, but she leaks her entire work history to the entire world

Avengers 2 (2015)

This movie is really really bad

But this scene is important (Natasha has had her mind controlled by a girl named Wanda Maximoff and has a nightmare about her time as an assassin so it shows us a little bit about her backstory which we’ve never really seen because #misogyny): red room dream

Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Lots of Avengers go to Nigeria to try to stop some bad peeps

They blow up a building by accident but it raises the question about how are they any better than the people they’re trying to stop if they’re killing a lot of people

They’re divided on whether to let the government oversee them or not

Natasha first sides with the government because she knows she’s done some bad stuff

Then switches sides last minute (big #girlbossmoment there)

So she’s now a war criminal :/

Also there’s this guy who works for the government named Agent Ross and he shows up in BW he’s not important he’s just the guy in charge of finding the Avengers that didn’t listen to the government (aka Natasha)

Avengers: Infinity War/Avengers: Endgame (2018-2023 🤯)

Not much happens for Natasha in Infinity War

She does a little more in Endgame but doesn’t do much more bc

Natasha dies #rip

So basically Natasha and Clint/Hawkeye had to decide which one of them was gonna die

They fight to each sacrifice themself on the edge of a cliff bc they’re besties and don’t want the other to die

But Natasha jumps off the cliff

And that takes us to Black Widow (takes place right after CA: Civil War in 2016)

So yeah pls tell me if I missed anything super important thx

All these kids obsession with Magnus is an absolute delight. Kids knows what’s up

ALEXANDRA AND ALEXANDER CONVO - beautiful. (The man, the legend, the myth!! Hell that’s my baby right there)

Jace and Clary are the sweetest but god the conversation with Jace. the best character development wow this boy. I’m so proud of Jace. he deserves all the happiness in the world. celery, chouchou and lettuce are lucky as hell.

but Dani- the way all these kids are traumatised just because of being kids of tmi gang. like I thought the tmi gang had pressure on them but damn lbaf kids have it worse. (I mean they have supportive parents so let’s call it even) but Selena and Lexi have been having these dreams since they were babies pls someone help them. MAGNUS YOU KNOW SOMETIMES FISHY BABE PLS TELL SOMEONE. the lbaf gang at takis was so cute but also so sad because of the rumours thing. Poor baby Rafael I’m still not over what happened to him- “he had a certain sadness to him” COULD’VE JUST SHOT ME BRO. I want Rafe to be happy and all cuddly with Magnus again okay. I think Max is the least traumatised of them all- till now. He’s had a relatively normal childhood. He’s a chaotic fucker and I love him. Pls Blue you do not need your own scandal cause we know it’s gonna be hella angsty.

Tmi gang having grown up seeing fucked up relationships bw their parents and being scared of love/ all emotions less V/S LBAF coming from a completely opposite upbringing- being even more scared of love is a MOOD. humans are the absolute worst lmaoo

Gigi and Lexi as parabatai are the cutest. “Strength”. Also Selena and Rafe’s bond is so cute. David and Max’s fRieNdShiP *coughs* is also nice.

And lastly,

“To love is a privilege and to be loved is a blessing.”

the river from law’s village becomes polluted, and lami gets sick

everyone in law’s village dies. he travels to alola

corazon, the ula’ula kahuna, gets wind of caesar’s experiments

law joins the family in alola

law meets corazon, and shortly after embarks on an island challenge

after getting a special material on poni island, law meets with corazon, who tells him he was planning to turn the family over to the international police

corazon dies, and law escapes the family with one type:null

law ends up in the kalos region

luffy meets shanks, and learns about aura

luffy leaves for the sinnoh region to train with shanks for the first time

ace and sabo set off on a journey through the kanto region

luffy is given his second pokemon, a buizel, by shanks, to help cope with the loss of his brothers

sabo and ace return to travel kanto once more

sabo’s accident occurs; he’s hospitalized, but convinces ace to continue traveling

luffy arrives in the sinnoh region

chimney goes missing, and shanks sets off to go look for all the missing girls

luffy migrates to jubilife, thinking it was veilstone; law arrives in the sinnoh region

shanks is captured and loses contact with boa hancock

dragon separates from his group, going off on his own

law and luffy meet in jubilife

the battle zone’s real-life location is a formerly-japanese-but-now-russian island called sakhalin. the lower half, specifically. the other island on the map where the pokemon league sits is based off a chain of japanese-owned islands that i can’t remember the name of and am too busy to look up right now. sakhalin is pretty barren, pretty remote, and pretty unpopulated. it’s also colder than hokkaido, being further north, but bc the pokemon-equivalent has an active volcano, the climate balances out.

i spent more time researching sakhalin on google earth than i did actually writing the entire travel part of part 4. like, an absurd amount of time. more than i needed to. but the result is a good portrayal, and an accurate, effortless one. here’s some geography stuff.

1. the squatty plants on sinnoh’s route 225 are probably stone pines. i say probably, bc i still came away unsure, but this was my best conclusion. i cross-referenced sakhalin flora with what i was seeing on google earth, paired with what was most common since these trees are everywhere in the battle zone. specifically they’re japanese stone pines, so more of a squatty bush than an actual tree. (also called dwarf siberian pines, or the genus name of the dwarf version, pinus pumila) in pokemon verse, i chose aguav berries as the pine’s fruit since the seeds grow in pink bundles, like an aguav plant in-game. also, an unripe pinecone is greet, so there’s that too.

2. southern sakhalin, that i can remember, doesn’t actually have black-sand beaches. there’s one in platinum off the base of stark mountain, but since that’s aniva bay area of sakhalin, it doesn’t match up great. the only thing similar is in northeastern sakhalin, off the sea of okhotsk, where dark mud will collect on the coast and turn the beach dark. i wrote it off as a game mechanic, saying ‘it’s from the ash from the volcano’, or something like that, and then referenced beaches in iceland that are actual black-sand beaches and really pretty.

3. aniva bay is southern sakhalin, essentially. it’s a fork, and in the middle is where the black sand beach is in platinum. in actuality, aniva bay is not that big. there’s a lighthouse off one fork, not tall or anything impressive, but it’s there. at one point i wanted law and luffy to sail in (i saw sail, i mean like surf on a pokemon okay) past the lighthouse, and go through the bay, and stop on the black sand beach. this was before i knew most anything about part four, though, and soon the idea was scrapped as i deviated towards the cargo ship taking them to fight area. also, aniva bay isn’t deep enough for whales to flop around in, and i realize since i called it a bay in tether that that should also hold true, but i did say it was a wailmer so let’s jus forget that inaccuracy and say its okay bc the whale is tiny.

4. stark mountain was a challenge i spent. so long. so so long. trying to find the mountain range it was based off of. pokemon wikipedia was no help, bc sakhalin is huge. if i was gonna do anything for the pokemon community, i’d wanna go and edit articles to include real-life landmarks that in-game ones were based on. i think the closest thing i found to a once-volcano was more into the northern half of sakhalin, so after spending too much time looking into it, i jus wrote based on screenshots of stark mountain, and on my own intuition. also, yea, i used video game logic the closer they got to the volcano. please don’t depict characters holding cloth over their mouths to protect from sulfur ash if youre going for accuracy, bc thats not going to help.

5. the survival area and the ainu village. i wrote a little about the ainu in part one, while exploring law’s village. my main amount of research went into the ainu’s of sakhalin, though. it’s all sorta the same culture, since they all got kicked out migrated to hokkaido anyway, but there are a few differences. the sheer rock cliff is part of a sakhalin photoset i referenced, so it does exist, somewhere. yes, there are bears in sakhalin, perhaps even more than hokkaido, since it’s less-human-populated. but, again, also colder. i realize survival area is a settlement in platinum, but also.. its really small? and kinda nothing, tbh. so i transformed it into an ainu village, since it’s so outta the way of the other two areas down on each fork of the bay, and it’s closer to the volcano, where the fire goddess resides.

the ainu are the indigenous population of japan. i mentioned before, if you’ve read fma or one of arakawa’s spreads, you’ve probably heard of them. in fma, they’re the race that the ishvalans are based off of. nowadays, they reside in hokkaido, and a while ago they used to reside in lower sakhalin. i couldn’t figure up a creative name for tether for them and i was in so much of a time crunch that in the end i didnt bother, sue me. researching the ainu was most definitely one of the more time-consuming tasks. i spent a long time reading. i watched, after a good recommendation, all two seasons of golden kamuy (an excellent portrayal of hokkaido!ainu, btw, jus not exactly what i was going for) and all one season of sirius the jaegar, where i got the most help from. marking maps and writing the outline (and making myself remember why i dont ever outline. ever.) were definitely time-consuming, but ainu research was by far the most hours i spent on a task for tether (besides like, writing it.)

i still don’t feel like i did enough research, so the cultural things i did include i tried to keep vague to keep from portraying wrong. the bear ceremonies, the signs of summer through salmon (finneon) hunting and huki harvesting, the bear cub raising, the ripping of clothing in a funeral procession, and the kamuy (ainu gods) are all real things and part of ainu culture. woman tattoo their lips, yes. the patterns of the clothing are distinctive (also warm, bc they’ve always been This Far North, and tether!law is a bastardization of forgotten ainu culture pls dont look at his sleeveless top next to his wooden earrings i beg you) there are lots of things i could go into, but im jus gonna leave it vague again and say if you’re super interested, go find an article or watch golden kamuy.

there wasn’t a lot of pokemon depicted in the wilds of the battle zone, and for reason. at this point i really wanted to keep true to sakhalin, so i stuck with the fauna native there, and the pokemon native to sinnoh, and if i didn’t include any pokemon that actually appear in the battle zone in platinum? oops. my house my rules. anyway so horses, dogs, wolves, bears. rapidash, eevee, luxray line, ursaring line.. that covers it, right? oh, and fearow. okay, so i did include one pokemon from platinum’s battle zone. also wailmer, there was a wailmer.

why did you include baroque works into dragon’s group?

so. i wrote tether while the vivre cards were coming out. specifically, right before i was supposed to have started writing part 4, the alabasta pack came out, and i was so taken with goldenweek’s real name that i re-read little garden and stuck her into the story. bentham was.. k, no lie, in my mind he’s like a pseudo-rev member? i jus associate hm so heavily with ivankov, and i read a fic once where he was iva’s student and since then i’ve jus always had to include him in rev stuff so that’s why he’s here. plus i love him. good enough, right? and those two are the only ones, so it’s not entirely baroque works. i don’t rly consider bentham bw anymore, like i said, he’s kinda a pseudo-rev. and i jus rly liked marianne’s name. also her, now. tether!marianne is cool. 85% of the story’s sass.

april 9th is both caesar and marguerite’s birthday. i think in the beginning i was searching for characters that share birthdays for a plot point, and when i settled on caesar i settled on marguerite eventually for this reason just so i could make the whole ‘it’s not his bday its mine!!’ joke. and then i formed the whole story on it being late march-early april and based the weather off that.

law’s sixth pokemon. see, i told you revealing it was strategic! you all were expecting null, right? and then out pops silvally. well, it’s been so many years, so it’s natural they would’ve figured out love and trust and such and breaking the mask and evolving. still! aaaa, that felt so good to write.

there’s more of a metaphor with silvally, even more with umbreon, that i was going for. something along the lines of a captured being being granted escape, bonding with someone, coming back to get due vengeance with the old captor, showing how much more they had become. with umbreon, it was more thing-i-protected-grew-into-something-that-now-protects-me aka her helping law through his nightmares, being a generally supportive and kind pokemon like someone law knew wink wink. also literally protect, with the whole casear thing.

okay mind control time. i reread pt 4 real quick before writing the notes, and im still not completely satisfied with how shanks broke free. i tried to hard to research good mind control depictions but i was more interested in figuring out how the mind control ended rather than the state of being, and there weren’t many promising results other than the victim dying, which wasn’t helpful. i knew i didn’t want it to be the whole i-love-you-so-snap-out-of-it thing, thats so cheesy and kinda ridiculous tbh. i think luffy confronting shanks’ inner self directly and convincing him to step out is nice, but if you pay attention closer to the scenes and how they match up, you might notice something that aids this.

so, it wasn’t just luffy. i know a lot goes on in latter half of pt 4, and all the scenes are disjointed. law and umbreon and silvally defeat gengar before shanks awakes properly. it was luffy, yes, that convinced him everything was going to be okay, and to not falter. but since gengar was knocked unconscious, the control over shanks was already waning to begin with. it was more like, he was already fine, and out of the cycle, but the trauma kept him from realizing it until luffy came. does that help? so basically, it wasn’t luffy talking alone, it was defeating gengar, like luffy had thought of previously. and then it was helping shanks thorugh it, because you don’t just bounce back from that. thats why i wrote shanks Like That in the remaining scenes.

while not in the best conditions as lab 3, labs 1 and 2 were fully-operational and secure facilities, so if you were questioning why sabo and law (mortally injured, mind you -two stab wounds, ow) would just leave the people and pokemon next to a burning lab, it’s because it was secure and the fire contained. the base was inside a volcano, guys, there’s no way the rooms werent airtight to prevent an accident. imagine being That Guy that fucked something up and led to the active volcano erupting. of course they took precautions. also, sabo had been working in the base for a bit, so if he thought the people were gonna catch fire, he wouldn’t have left them.

koala having aromatisse was purely for plot purposes, for it’s hidden ability. i needed a psychic type, and if i haven’t mentioned, dragon’s group are based in kalos, so it had to be from there. it fits though, maybe, right? anywa, yea, that’s why sabo has a delphox and salamence after he fucks off for two years, because he was in kalos. (this is what i’m referring to, if you haven’t clicked on any of those links.)

and, finally, my favorite moment of tether, when lawlu graduates from arms to wrists to finally holding hands. /cries so proud

k but what’s with that ending?

fun fact time i always knew how i wanted to end tether. from the moment of its conception, even before i finished writing part 1 (before i started, really, back when i was gathering material) i knew it ended with dragon in front of the statue of giratina. insert obligatory sequel joke here marianne mentions, before the trio ventures into the base, that her group’s leader wouldn’t appreciate having to halt his own agenda to help them with taking out the hunters. giratina was this agenda.

originally, before i started on pt 2, i thought abt law/lu taking a different route. i wanted them to go north, up through eterna forest and to eterna city, and examine the statue of dialga. then go east from there, still taking them through coronet, but then through celestic town and seeing the cave painting of the lake guardians. i also really wanted them to go to lake valor, since it was the only lake they could conceivably go to on their way to veilstone. i thought about switching pastoria for snowpoint and encountering sabo at lake acuity. none of this worked out, but it was all supposed to reference back into dragon and giratina and sinnoh lore. instead i turned it fully into a travel fic and then a rescue op, at the end. it’s still interesting to think how the story could’ve changed, had they gone up to eterna before crossing through coronet.

in all honesty i wanted to end the story on a surprise note. almost like a goosebumps ending, where everything is resolved and then at the very end there’s a quick scene that leaves you grasping for more, leaves you questioning. (also like certain op chapters leaving you with zero answers and more questions than you started with, fuck you, oda) it wasn’t until i was almost done with part 4 that i started to kinda miss tether, even tho i wasnt done yet but my outline had been done for a bit so i kinda was? and then i remembered back in november when i created concepts for ace and sabo before i even wrote that one scene in mt coronet, and i remembered thinking so much about their story, and their travels, and sabo’s accident. and then, not long after i finished with part 4, i had a startling idea, and i had a first line of a maybe sequel, and i started to put a little more thought into it.

if you’re looking for confirmation, this isn’t it. this is saying i have an idea i’d like to explore. maybe. tether took a lot of work, and a lot of time. it definitely doesn’t have as much feedback as i would like it to, for me to invest in a full-fledged sequel. if i start this, if i ever do, it’ll definitely be more lax, and a chapter-by-chapter sort of thing. i guess it just comes down to how many people are actually interested in it.

12:55 and august 19 2021!

Tomorrow is official move in day at usf!!! Shoutout to kelly for decorating so much of the pod with me and being the GOAT, I love her so much. She got me a morning journal and I can say,,,, 110% mood increase when I do it. It seems silly, but it like,,, HELPS. on days I don’t journal, something doesn’t click right sometimes,,, so journaling like writing it down is so so so helpful argh. Mia went to bw’s today with coach after sporties and had fun! I decorated the pod and did so. Many. RCRs. Still have 4 more to go! But ngl,,, I think my pod looks the best which is pretty rad but I hope I’m not just being narcissistic but I hope it does because I put a lot of love into it because hosh! Hope this year goes well! In all reality though, no pod or group could ever top 7200 fall 2019-spring 2020. If covid didn’t happen, I’m 1000% sure we would’ve caused so much chaos that wasn’t painful but was enjoyable. Does that make sense? I met some of my residents today and some of them are wonky but some are great. One asked to use marijuana. The tits he has to ask like bitch!!! What!!! I had to legally say no but oh well. Anyways, I miss kelly a lot and should call my family more but alas, I spend an hour at Publix to buy my silly groceries for my silly tummy. Anywho, I think going to bed late is easier for me because then I can fall asleep faster and my mind isn’t constantly worrying I’m not good enough. HAHA wait who said that uh. Anywho, all love, hope move in goes well tomorrow, hope my staff is good, hope the elevators don’t break and my decisions are enjoyed by future me. Bull block 60?? I want dining dollars,,, every meal at JP tastes the same,,, all love,,,, tia xoxo

On another note, I want to go out to eat with kelly and be at the beach for 5/10 of the day and the other 5/10 of the day eating random chips or cheeses and watching shows or movies. Have I been corrupted or have I seen the light?? I know the answer (the light,,, the rest I need,,, the self love I’ve needed!!! Not worrying about my body and being content taking breaks and relaxing and being happy and enjoying existence like what!! What a life!!!) you may ask why I didn’t say 1/2,,, 5/10 seems larger even though they’re the same don’t talk to me.,,, also forgot the alphabet for a second yesterday HAHA OH went bowling yesterday with some RA staff,,, wild,,, also I really wish the world wasn’t so fucked that whenever I say “my girlfriend” or “my girlfriend kelly” people wouldn’t give me The Look. Like bitches if my 70 year old dad can say “welcome to the family” y’all can mind your business pls n thx. Alright,,, well,,,, ‘‘twas a great time, can’t wait to cook with kelly when she comes back,,,, I’ve been watching queer eye and it makes me want to better myself like have a clean room, soft feet, nice teeth, clean hair, clean face, groomed nails, shaved legs, but bitches,,,, I don’t even know where to start. My room is a mess despite the effort I put in to clean it, I don’t know where to put clothes, my hair is constantly falling everywhere, like,,, hello how do I show kelly I want to be my best for her even though I have no idea how to be that. don’t mind me i’m just crying over the train hopper comic again. like he gave no fucks about what was going on until he realized the innocent folk were going to die. and then he just. dives right in the fucking window ( and i’m never getting over the fact he managed to grab onto a moving fucking train going 398mph wtf ). he manages to keep the civ casualties to ( as far as the comic shows ) none. he keeps absolutely calm the entire time, and it probably helps that he knows what / how they’re doing things since it’s a bw play. but when the lights go out he fucking remembered exactly where everyone had been standing. he shoots while it’s still dark and kills all the enemies, hitting no bystanders. he does it like it’s nbd. it’s nothing. just another fuckin’ tuesday ( which, i guess it seems like that actually is pretty much what his days are like ). and then just smokes and has a drink even though he’d just killed someone he used to work with. and the whole time he’s just being a polite, charming, southern gent to all the passengers. smiling and using his ‘nice’ words and southernisms to put them all at ease despite what they just saw him do. and it works for him, the charming fuck.

also i’m never letting go of the fact he didn’t fucking care that talon got the package which blizz what the actual fuck is it you can’t just leave this hanging pls because it meant the passengers were all safe. he didn’t step in necessarily to stop talon, he stepped in to save those people.

Hi there! you’re all manners of sweet and kind thank u my advice abt approaching comics is going for solo runs first, this is how I, personally, did it and it’s way easier than jumping in on team books, or worse events bc they tend to be messier and need more bg info and pre-existing knowledge than a comic that focus on just the one character; I also feel it’s good to start with current or at least recent comics, you can always read the old stuff when you’re better acquainted with how comics work and which characters, artists and writers you like (or can tolerate).

actual recs under the cut because this got so long

i was gonna do a whole list of mcu characters’ solos because most people entry point to comics rn is superhero movies, and hmu if you want that, but instead I think I’m gonna rec you some good comics that are either separated enough from main marvel continuity as to be intelligible without extensive info gathering, or I just think they’re great and worth a bit of confusion (part of starting out reading comics is not knowing fully wth is going on sometimes, but stiking with it for some good art or for characters you love -I’m not gonna go so far as to say for good writing bc that’s just not realistic):

if you like yourself some spider-people:- silk (2015) and vol 2 (2016) are my absolute favorites- I’m not very much into spiderman but I read renew your vows and it’s lovely, it’s just not a main universe comic it’s an au where things are as, imo, they should be with ye old web slinger, and it’s good for getting your feet wet in the huge pool of spider-man comics;- I love miss jessica drew (spider-woman) but her solo is……. questionable if someone has a good jess drew intro rec pls tell me so I can pass it on, - miles morales has been written badly in more ways than one but I love him so I suffer, I can direct you without scruples only to his novel tho, absolutely lovely and not written by brian michaelbendis lmao- anya corazon is a really good character that marvel loves to forget it has, let’s not make the same mistake;- black widow 2014 and 2016 and bw: the name of the rose are all good comics (I know technically nat isn’t a spider person but like nothing about spider-woman’s powers screams ‘spider’ either so..

for wakanda I’d say good recent start-ups would be: - black panther (2016), - black panther: world of wakanda (w/ a lesbian couple as protag), - and rise of the black panther (ongoing)

some non x-men team books that are easier to approach as a beginner imho:-young avengers vol 2 (vol 1 has its moments if you want to start from the beginning with them but a lot of it involves the civil war arc and stuff.. also some characters die, the art is less good and I want to protect people from 17’s yo cassie lang’s nipples poking through her shirt.. I wish someone had protected me tbh) -I want to rec some Runaways but besides the current run (which is alright) there’s a lot to be said against the writing in most of the rest of them maybe vol 1? to have the origins pinned down-I feel like after a small read through of what exactly the hell was going on with secret wars you could approach A-Force vol 1 and the first half of vol 2 (the second half ties in with civil war II and I’m not touching that mess) and that and avenger world and sometimes secret avengers to me are good avengers books-she hulk 2014 and totally awesome hulk are my greens of choice but if you want an intro to bruce banner idont actually know, sorry-for the asgardians: thor 2014 and it’s follow up mighty thor, thor: god of thunder, angela: asgard’s assassin and its sequel angela: queen of hel, and loki: agent of asgard are my pick of this crop-we also have Fun here at marvel comics on occasion and both patsy walker aka hellcat and squirrel girl are nice in their own way although the latter isn’t really my thing

some follow up on the young avengers:- hawkeye (2013) an absolute fan favorite, good to discover that actually clint barton was a good character it’s that the avengers movies are just bad and hate people with disabilities- a couple of follow-ups to that (x) (x) and the kate bishop solo all pretty nice- america chavez’s solo (I’m just here to suggest gay comics, that’s almost all I read really)

I want to rec Champions to people but frankly it’s just a long series of event interruptions and bullshit interspersed with a couple of nice moments so far, so I’m gonna rec you some kids that are in the champions and have solos I haven’t already mentioned:- kamala khan’s book is probably my favorite ongoing series at marvel right now about any non-mutant char, I cannot say enough good about it,- nova is nice,- miles morales (spider-man) and amadeuscho (totally awesome hulk) are also there but I’ve already mentioned themalso in this house we love and respect elektranatchiosand any other attitude just isn’t tolerated.

on to the x-men, gotta love those guys, you just gotta:- like I said I prefer to tell people to start from recent comics but with the xmen that’s so difficult? it’s been 10+ bad years for them because of the movie rights situation and just marvel being shit in general, so my one recent team book to approach the x-men is prob x-men ‘92? because its based off of the xm animated series so you don’t have to straightaway deal with some mutant plague, eugenics plots, and other catastrophic events, but you can still get to know more of the char we all love - I want to say generation x vol 2, it’s not a good starting point for anything really but I love it so so much I had to mention it even tho it was cancelled and I’m still angry as hell about it.

the solo situation is better. I’m gonna be able to breathe without tasting my own bile while I type this, hurray!-all new wolverine follows laura kinney as she takes up the mantle from logan-iceman, good solid comic abt coming out and ice puns, who doesn’t like bobby really-jean grey, yes she’s a teen girl in this, yes it’s weird and I hate de-aging characters but it’s nice to see her train with different mutants, struggling with the incoming phoenix force and her adult self’s shadow, not really great entry point to jean grey but id read it anyway-if you were into the 00’s xmen movies like me, or at least a normal person’s amount the phoenix recently returned and with her adult!jean grey, it was a good book for me and good if you want to later start reading the actual phoenix saga (which is a lot of material so starting small with this might help) -I love wandamaximoff and despite what they’ve done to the maximoffs in order to bring them into the mcu (was it worth it for that result btw? really?) her recent book was good and I genuinely loved it -storm’s solo is so good, you’re gonna fall in love with an het ship and you’re not gonna regret it either-rogue and gambit, is ongoing and it’s good to get a little acquainted with these characters but mostly it’s about explorign their relationship

I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot of good x-men content atm but I can’t stop thinking I need to mention that there are ongoing series you could pick up its just.. I hate them.. some started out promising (xmen gold, astonishing xmen), but they’ve not developed in good directions imo, but I still feel they should be mentioned, there’s also a weapon x comic if you want to go for a more bloody kind of book and xmen blue if you like time displaced teens or something? god its bad

jeez this is so so long and guess what? I haven’t even finished yet.. there’s some excellent indie comics out there and with those you really don’t need to worry abt knowing any 30 years old lore or anything you pick them up and they explain themselves like any other normal media out there, I know, be still my heart:

- lumberjanes is my absolute favorite, a little corny, but so much fun and cuteness and if I could go back in time I’d give it to my little bi self so she’d know she’s not alone and anything I feel that ways about has a special place i my heart js

- Motor crush, there really isn’t any other comic book with a black lesbian as protagonist out there that I can think of, good if you’re into motorcycles but if like in my case that threatens to put you to sleep, it also has a sci-fi streak and solid character work, you won’t regret giving it a try

- moonstruck, cute non-white gay werewolves and other mythological creatures are there, I feel this cathers to me specifically every time I open it?? bless

- Hi-Fi fight club or heavy vinyl (they changed the title) if you want a period piece that’s fun and cute and gay (I meant it about me reading only gay comics as you can tell)

- saga, for a space, well ya know.. saga I feel that I can describe it as romeo and juliet in space with added racial commentary except they don’t kill themselves, I have to say not my favorite but you might stick with it for the characters, I sure do

- the wicked + the divine, I feel very much the same about this as I do about saga, only this is mythology based so like.. I sold my soul to it, but please do tread with care there’s a lot of deaths in it and so many of these dead people are gays and/or poc.. I’m none too pleased about it and I’d understand anyone not wanting to pick it up, I mean the deaths are basically in the premises of the books but that doesn’t change the end result..

lastly like I said dc is not my area of expertise but I’ve been following with pleasure both batwoman and green lanterns, and mr miracle was an amazing comic so I thought I’d mention them

I think just this twist with the Yarnweaver (Who I keep typing as yawnmaster for some reason) really showed the confidenc eblow and learning about finding one's footing because without a 'leg' to stand on you can have all the hope and tenacity you want but it won't get you anywhere. You need that focus to go with your drive or you'll miss your mark. I'm pretty sure they got more to explore though, we just got to see the tip of the iceberg. :D

Favorite character: Snivy counts, right? Yes? Totally. I can’t really choose between the human characters tho, Cilan and Iris are both great. Oh, maybe Bianca? She never ceases to make me smile!

Least Favorite character: Oh I have an answer for this one. Cameron. Instead of letting Ash battle with Trip in that round like he should have, they just suddenly gave him a new “main” rival, just before the league. Almost as bad as the case Tobias. And man oh man I will never get over how bad that battle was, the only good part about it was how well Snivy battled, but then /of course/ that Riolu just had to evolve. Thanks poke/ani writers. I don’t even find his habit of playing with his headband funny and he’s a poor copy of Ash. (Haha sorry I had to get the steam out of my system)

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): the weird thing is that... I really didn’t ship much during bw. Georgia and Burgundy were funny together, Bianca having her eyes on the eevee guy whose name I have already forgotten (Virgil) was cute, Snivy and Emolga were of course epic, Ash, Cilan and Bianca all worked well together but I’m not really /that/ big on wishful/shipping or any of the Ash ships. So yeah, that’s it.

Character I find most attractive: in pokemon most of the characters are children.... I’m gonna skip this one

Character I would marry: Cilan might be an interesting guy to be married with, and hey, he would cook! That’s important

Character I would be best friends with: Hmmmmm. Bianca. I think I would get along with her pretty well.

A random thought: I love BW (as most of you know), it has the most solid fillers there are and the side characters and pokemon are awesome!! I probably will rewatch the snivy episodes soon because I kinda promised gifs of them

An unpopular opinion: ^what I already said above. The league sucked but other than that I really enjoyed this series

Most bad*** character: Iris!! The girl handles /dragons/ like a boss and you have to be pretty kicka** to be able to do that

Pairing I am not a fan of: I don’t know... Obviously any possible child/adult pairings or such that go without saying...

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): what they screwed up the most is not letting Iris return in XY. Here is hoping we’d see our Unovian friends in SM... (pls I’d absolutely love to see all the old companions *cries*)

Favourite friendship: Ash x Iris x Cilan, I felt it was pretty balanced and all took care of each otherThank you again 8)

Also no your comment was NOT ONLY saying about dismissing calls of antisemitic presence in the show. it is clear in my first post that i was mainly focusing on the transphobic comments. While i mention the antisemitic part i do understand that lizard ppl can be tied to antisemitic and understand why ppl might be like “what the fuck”.

and I would like to apologize for seeming mad bc i am. you did NOT only address the antisemitic part of my post. you didnt even acknowledge the parts i have in bolded. while i did ask for a clarification on the poc comment and got it, you said “listen to poc in fandoms” while i do. but just having a pic of lizard ppl might have been more of a mistake or poor taste on the creators/storyboard/designing team’s part rather than “we’re gonna put this here bc we hate jewish ppl hahaha” like c’mon. I just read the new chapter of LBAF and you’re KILLING ME DANI.

Initially I thought that I wouldn’t like the TMI kids that much because it’s not canon but BOY WAS I WRONG. ALL THESE PRECIOUS BABIES.

T, the Mute, Meets Daryl, the Stupid Redneck Chapter 7 - I’m Yori

****T's POV****

A few miles out of the city we were running really low on gas so we stopped and condensed our vehicles to the R.V., Carol's Jeep, and Daryl's Motorcycle. Ever since the CDC Rick, Lori, and Carol have been looking at and treating me like I'm their child. I don't mind it really as I never really had parents. It has just been me and Yori since I was ten and he was twenty when they were killed. I'm helping siphon the gas from the vehicles we're not going to use anymore when Dale comes over to us and asks me, T-Dog, and Shane "Where are you three riding? Rick, Lori, and Carl are riding with Carol and Sophia. So all three of you are riding in the R.V. or one of you ride with Daryl and the rest in the R.V." Just then Glenn says "T should ride with Daryl." I look at Glenn confused as Daryl says "That's fine." I then look at him confused so he adds "You don't take up that much room." I frown not knowing if that was an insult or not and look at Dale hoping for some help but all he does is smile at me before going back to the R.V. 'They are up to something.' I think as I look at Glenn who smirks at me. "T." Daryl then says before walking over to his bike so I follow him as T-Dog and Shane go over to the R.V. with the gas cans. As he gets on the bike he says "Just get on and hold on to me when we start moving." I nod and get on behind him as he starts the bike. He starts heading to the front of the caravan and I wrap my arms around his waist lightly. We then start heading out to Fort Benning.

****Time skip to pile up****

Up ahead there's a pile up of cars so I point to it and Daryl says "I see it. Hold on, I'm gonna see if there's a way through." So I hold onto him tighter as he speeds up and navigates through the pile up finding a path for the R.V. and turning around heading back towards them as they stopped. We pull up next to the R.V. and Dale asks "See a way through?" We nod and I point ahead of them as Daryl gestures with his head that way before going around the R.V. and back in front of it leading it. We slowly make our way through the cars when all of a sudden the R.V. starts smoking. I tap Daryl on the shoulder so he stops and parks the bike. We get off and make our way over to the group as Dale says "Just a small matter of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no hope of-"before Daryl starts going through one of the cars. Dale then says "Okay, that was dumb." "If you can't find a radiator hose here..." Shane says trailing off as Daryl says "There's a whole bunch of stuff we can find." "I can siphon more fuel from these cars for a start." T-Dog says. "Maybe some water." Carol says and Glenn adds "Or food." But Lori says "This is a graveyard." We all look at her so she adds "I don't know how I feel about this." But Daryl goes back to going through the car as T-Dog says "All right, all right, here we go." And Shane says "Come on, y'all. Just look around, gather what you can." So we all start to go around and search the cars. I go to the cars a little bit farther away from the group and start looking through them, letting my snooping side take over. 'This is the way Yori must have come. He might have left a clue somewhere that he's been here. Our cabin isn't that far from here.' I think going through everything in the cars. I come to a blazer that has something written on the window on the inside getting closer I see it reads "T lic pl MDE-28SC bw n kf un" so I quickly start checking the license plates of the cars heading back towards the group. I find it just as I pass Lori, Carol, and the kids. I quickly slide under the car and find my bow, arrows, quiver, and hunting knife taped to the bottom. I start taking them off when Rick runs past me and says "T get completely under the car. Lori, under the cars. Carl, Sophia, get down now." Carl, Sophia, and Rick get under the cars next to me as I scoot myself farther under the car. Sophia is under the car directly next to me so when she looks at me I put my finger to my lips and she nods. I then make quick work of getting my stuff off the car as quietly as I can and getting them off just as the walkers start walking by. When Sophia looks at me again I motion for her to stay looking at me. She nods and makes eye contact with me and I with her.

The walkers die down and she starts making her way from under the car towards me. I shake my head but a walker notices her as she screams and it crawls under the car to get her so I quickly pull her to me then from under my car just as a pair of walker comes from around it. I pick her up and start making my way to the woods were we can hide but I'm slow on the hill and the walkers don't have to worry about dropping someone. I get to the bottom of the hill and start running into the woods as Rick follows us from behind the walkers. I'm making a good sized gap between us and the walkers just then Rick comes up from my right and a group of five walkers come from the left so I give Sophia to him yell "Take her now!" as I pull my pocket knife from my pocket. He takes off in the direction he came from with her but I can tell he's winded and original two walkers go after them. I yell in frustration trying to get them to turn their attention to me but they see Rick and Sophia as an easy target. I then have to quickly jump back as one of the five walkers reaches for me, stab it in the back of the head with my pocket knife, unfortunately it breaks so I have to quickly kick the walker back into two others and take down the one still standing with my hunting knife. But I notice three more come from behind them so I start going the way I was originally going while making as much noise as possible so they follow me and don't go in Rick's and Sophia's direction. I only jog so they keep their interest till I'm sure I'm far enough away and quickly veer left, start sprinting, and hide behind a tree. They start passing me and when it's the last one I quickly come out and stab it in the back of the neck severing the brain stem making very little noise. Then I pick up a rock and throw it to the right of the group of them. Only three of them head that way and the other two stopped, so I line up the shot and throw my knife into the head of one of the ones who stopped. As it starts falling I rush forward, rip the knife from its head, and drive it into the head of the other causing the three to turn back to me. I run towards and around them, stop and sever one's brain stem, and jump back quickly. I then run towards them again but slide under them causing them to fall as I take out their legs with my arms. I stand quickly and throw the knife at one's head and jump on the other and start smashing its face into a rock repeatedly till the skull breaks.

I'm panting and don't notice the arrival of another walker and get pushed to the ground by it. I flip it backwards off me but it has a good grip on my sleeves and takes me with it and down the hill. Luckily I land on it so I stand up ripping its arms from mine as I start kicking its face in. When it's re-dead I look were I've fallen and see there's no way for me to get back up as the sides are too step and there is no roots or rocks in them for me to grab on to. I frown, sit down exhausted, and hope Daryl can track where I went as I start to throw small rocks over the hill bored and keeping myself from going to sleep.

****Daryl's POV****

"What happened?" I ask as T-Dog and I make our way to the group that where looking towards the woods. Just then Rick comes out of the woods and asks "They're not back yet?!" It's then that I don't notice Sophia or T in the group as Carol yells "Where are they?!" Lori tries to calm her down as Rick says "We have to find them." Before turning and going back into the woods with Glenn, Shane, and I following him. He leads us a spot with two dead walkers and says "This is where T gave me Sophia and told me to take her when a group of walkers came from that direction." He points and turns around and points in the opposite direction and adds "I took off with Sophia in that direction as T went that way drawing three of the walkers after him after killing these two." Pointing in the direction she went. "Sophia first. T knows how to survive out here, Sophia doesn't." Glenn says I didn't like it especially seeing the broken knife but agreed that even without it she had a better chance than Sophia so Rick leads us to a river and I ask "Sure this is the spot?" "I left Sophia right here after we separated from T. I drew the walkers that followed us way off in that direction up the creek." Rick says pointing in the direction he says he went. "Without a paddle-seems where we've landed." I say so Rick says "She was gone by the time I got back here. I figured she just took off and ran back to the group. I told her to go that way and keep the sun on her left shoulder." Pointing in the direction of the highway. I walk over to the spot and tell Glenn "Hey, Short Round, why don't you step off to one side? You're mucking up the trail." "Assuming she knows her left from her right." Shane says. "Shane, she understood me fine." Rick says so Shane says "Kid's tired and scared, man. She and T had a close call with two walkers. Got to wonder how much of what you said stuck." As I look for Sophia's prints I find them and say "Got clear prints right here. Sophia did like you said, headed back to the highway. Let's spread out, make our way back." Getting out of the river as Shane says "They couldn't have gone far." And adds "Hey, we gonna find them. Sophia will be tuckered out hiding in a bush somewhere while T is probably talking with some forest animal and forgot to come back." Looking at Rick. "T doesn't forget anything." Glenn says angry and glaring at Shane.

Following the trail I notice it veers off so I kneel and say "Sophia was doing just fine till right here. All she had to do was keep going. She veered off that way." Pointing in the direction she went as Glenn asked "Why would she do that?" "Maybe she saw something that spooked her, made her run off." Shane suggests so Glenn asks "A walker? T?" I shake my head and say "I don't see any other footprints. Just hers." "So what do we do? All of us press on?" Shane asks so Rick says "No, better if you and Glenn get back up to the highway. People are gonna start panicking. Let them know we're on their trail doing everything we can. But most of all, keep everybody calm." "I'll keep 'em busy scavenging cars. Think up a few other chores. I'll keep 'em occupied. Come on." Shane says starting to walk back to the highway Glenn follows but doesn't look to happy about it. I then start leading Rick in the direction Sophia went.

****Yori's POV****

I was about twenty yards away from the cabin hunting when I heard a girl scream. I go as fast as I can in the direction of the scream and find a little girl in a tree with two walkers under her. I quickly shoot them with my bow and ask the girl "You okay?" She nods so I help her down from the tree and ask "What's a little miss like you doing out in the woods alone?" She's still petrified so I say "I'm Yori. Your group is probably looking for you. I'll help you find them." She stares at me before asking "You're T's brother?" "My sister is in your group?" I ask her then nodding. "Yeah! We're back at the highway." She says excited. "The highway? We won't make it there before dark…Come on, we'll go back to our cabin for the night before heading that way." I say and start leading her back to the cabin.

****T's POV****

A walker was circling the ""hole" I was in so I pulled the walker on me and watch it. I hear someone whistle and the walker roars looking at them. An arrow is then in its head and it falls rolling down to hill. 'Orange and yellow feathers…' I think as I hear Daryl call "Sophia! T!" as I see Rick look at me. "Down there." He says starting to go to slide down so I shake my head. He stops and asks "You bit?" causing Daryl to slide down the hill and start checking me after pulling the dead walker off. I frown, shake my head, and point to the side of the hill. Daryl slowly looks at it and says "Oh…" "What?" Rick asks staying at the top. "No way up." He replies and takes his arrow from the walkers head. "I'll find something." Rick says and starts searching. I go over to the walker Daryl shot and looked at it. I roll it over and notice it fed recently so I frown, look at Daryl, and point at his knife. "I'll do it." He says as he pulls out his knife. I put my hands up and step away so he stabs it and starts cutting its belly open. He then feels around in it for the stomach, looks at me and says "Yeah, hoss had a big meal not long ago. I feel it in there." Before ripping the stomach out and throwing it on the ground adding "Here's the gut bag." "What are you two doing?" Rick asks having found a fallen tree and pushed it over the hill making a way up. "Checking." Daryl says opening the stomach and stab something inside it, pulling it out he says "This gross bastard had himself a woodchuck for lunch." "At least we know." Rick says as I start climbing up the hill. "At least we know." Daryl says back before also climbing up the hill. I get to the top and Rick says "I found this. I believe it's yours." Holding my knife out to me. I nod taking it from him and then taking the sheath out of my pocket, putting it on the knife, and putting it back in my pocket. It's getting late when Sophia's trail goes cold, so we decide to head back to the highway and pick up Sophia's trail in the morning. Coming out of the woods I get tackled by Glenn as Carol says "You didn't find her?" "Her trail went cold. We'll pick it up again at first light." Rick says as I try to get Glenn off me but he's hugging me like he thought he would never see me again. "You can't leave my daughter out there on her own to spend the night alone in the woods." Carol says so Daryl says "Out in the dark's no good. We'd just be tripping over ourselves. More people'd get lost." "But she's 12. She can't be out there on her own. You didn't find anything?" Carol says so Rick says "I know this is hard. But I'm asking you not to panic. We know she was out there." Daryl jumps in and says "And we tracked her for a while." So Rick adds "We have to make this an organized effort. Daryl and T knows the woods better than anybody. I've asked them to oversee this." Looking at Carol but she's looking at Daryl and asks "Is that blood?" and starts breathing heavy. "We took down a walker." Rick says causing Carol to panic and say "Walker? Oh, my God." So Rick quickly says "There was no sign it was ever anywhere near Sophia." "How can you know that?" Andrea asks so Rick looks at Daryl who says "We cut the son of a bitch open, made sure." Glenn finally let's go of me when Carol asks Rick "How could you just leave her out there to begin with? How could you just leave her?" "Those two walkers were on us. I had to draw them off. It was her best chance." Rick says to her so Shane says "Sounds like he didn't have a choice, Carol." "How was she supposed to find her way back on her own? She's just a child. She's just a child." Carol accuses Rick who says quickly "It was the only option. The only choice I could make." "I'm sure nobody doubts that." Shane says as everyone looks at Rick. Carol starts crying and says "My little girl got left in the woods." Clearly blaming Rick who already blames himself so I sit down where I am and focus on watching the woods ignoring the others thinking ‘At 12 I managed to find my way out of hell but I don’t know if Sophia can without help.’

An hour goes by and Glenn sets my bow and quiver next to me saying "Kept them safe for you." I nod so he walks away. A few minutes go by and someone sits next to me not saying anything so I keep my focus on the woods. We sit in silence until they ask "You sure you're not hurt." I nod and he says "Get some sleep. I'll watch for her." Causing me to look at him. Daryl isn't looking at me but at the woods and seems to be thinking something. I sigh and look back at the woods only for him to pull me close to him and order "Sleep." I try to pull away, not liking the warm feeling now in my chest and feeling of safety, but he's holding me tight so I give up, rest my head on his shoulder, and realize just how tired I am as I quickly fall asleep.

****Glenn's POV****

I watch as Daryl goes and sits next to T. Nothing happens for a while as Rick walks up to me asking "Anything new?" I nod and point at the two. He chuckles and says quietly "Make sure they don't kill each other. Daryl is pretty upset that T fought six walkers on her own." "You know?" I ask causing him to say "Yeah. I think Daryl does too." Just then Daryl pulls T close to him and holds on to her as she tries but fails to pull away. She gives up and rests her head on his shoulder, he looks at her and a look that can only be described as pure affection is on his face before he looks back to the woods. "I feel like I saw something I shouldn't have." I say slowly looking at Rick who nods and says "I was right." We walk away as I ask "He liked her before he knew?" "Yeah, didn't you see his face the first time he looked at her?" Rick asked. I think back to that day and say "Oh my God. I thought it was just her." "I don't think they know the extent of their own feelings yet though." Rick says so I say "I know...they know they care about the other but they don't know how much they do even though we all can see it." "They can't even see it with each other." Rick states then. "Who? Daryl and T?" Dale asks coming from behind a car. Rick and I nod so he says "Those boys they have something special and rare. That's why they can't see it. It'll be best to just let them figure it out themselves. If you push them they might run. Or being how each of them are…kill each other.”

****Time skip till morning****

Rick puts the weapons Carl found on a car hood and says "Everybody takes a weapon." But Andrea says "These aren't the kind of weapons we need. What about the guns?" "We've been over that. Daryl, Rick, T, and I are carrying. We can't have people popping off rounds every time a tree rustles." Shane says as T hands me a weapon from one of the ones on the hood. "It's not the trees I'm worried about." Andrea says. As I inspect the hatchet T gave me Shane says "Say somebody fires at the wrong moment, a herd happens to be passing by. See, then it's game over for all of us. So need to get over it." Daryl then says "The idea is to take the creek up about five miles, turn around and come back down the other side. Chances are she'll be by the creek. It's her only landmark." As T stops me from playing with the hatchet. "Stay quiet and stay sharp. Keep space between you but always stay within sight of each other." Rick says as T follows Daryl away from the group.

****T's POV****

I stop Glenn from playing with the hatchet I gave him so he wouldn't hurt himself as Daryl says "The idea is to take the creek up about five miles, turn around and come back down the other side. Chances are she'll be by the creek. It's her only landmark." "Stay quiet and stay sharp. Keep space between you but always stay within sight of each other." Rick says as I follow Daryl away from the group and not wanting to listen to Andrea complain I wait in front of the woods. When we start to head out I see Carl is coming with us so I stick behind him as we search. Daryl is leading and I'm in the back watching Carl. He stops and says "Shane, look. Dad said I could carry it and Mom said as long as I was-"but is cut off by Shane being a dick and saying "Keep it down. We're looking for Sophia. You need to focus on the task." Causing Carl to look down and walk slower so Lori says "Got to keep up." "I am." Carl says sad. "You okay?" She asks so he says "I think Shane's mad at me. Did I do something wrong?" "No. No, honey, I promise you. He's just-he's worried about Sophia, that's all." She answers as we come up on a tent we all stop and Shane says "She could be in there." "Could be a whole bunch of things in there." Daryl says saying what I was thinking and walks forward. Rick, Shane, and I follow him as the others stayed back. Daryl takes out his knife and motions for me to follow him as he slowly approaches the tent. We inspect it to see if we can see anything but we can't so I look at Rick and shrug so he says quietly "Carol." And motions for her to come. They approach slowly as Rick says "Call out softly. If she's in there, yours is the first voice she should hear." As Daryl is ready at the front of the tent if it's anything but Sophia. "Sophia, sweetie, are you in there? Sophia, it's Mommy. Sophia. We're all here, baby. It's Mommy." There's no response so Rick approaches as Daryl starts to unzip the door slowly and open it. He coughs as I go in it, it smells bad, but I've smelled worse. He follows me and I poke the body seeing if it will re-animate as Rick and Shane cough and gag outside the tent. "Daryl? T?" Carol asks as Daryl takes the gun from the dead body's hand and puts it in the back of his pants. He gets out then and says "It ain't her." "What's in there?" Andrea asks as I get out. "Some guy. Did what Jenner said. Opted out. Ain't that what he called it?" Daryl says. I go to nod but take off in the direction of a bell ringing. They follow me as Carol says "If we hear them, maybe Sophia does too." So Glenn says "Someone's ringing those bells, maybe calling others." "Or signaling that they found her." Andrea says causing Rick to say "She could be ringing them herself. Come on."

A few feet later we make it to the church but Shane says "That can't be it. Got no steeple, no bells. Rick, T." as we ignore him and run to the church. The others follow us as we stop at the doors. Rick points at me signaling for the others to be quiet before we open the doors. Three walkers are inside and they slowly turn to face us. Lori gives Rick her machete and Glenn gives Daryl his hatchet as I pull out my knife. Rick goes for the single as Daryl and I go for the pair. Approaching the male as he approaches the female I quickly go around it and sever its brain stem and use its body as a shield against the female as Daryl sneaks up behind her. Making kissing sounds he gets her attention and smacks her in the face with the hatchet having to back up as she falls towards him. 'Rick it's dead.' I tell him in my head looking at him as he keeps hitting the walker with the machete. He then looks up and yells "Sophia!" as Daryl walks towards the statue of Jesus and says "Yo, JC, you taking requests?" "I'm telling you, it's the wrong church. It's got no steeple, Rick. There's no steeple." Shane says just before the bells ring again. Daryl and I make it out of the church first and see the speaker. I go over and turn it off as Daryl says "A timer. It's on a timer." "I'm gonna go back in for a bit." Carol says following me and Daryl into the church. I stand with him in the back of the church when Carol begs god to keep Sophia safe. I look at the ground thinking 'You didn't protect me, but I swear to you that you better protect Sophia. She isn't strong like I was. Give her back.' Before walking out of the church and seeing Shane and Andrea speaking I try to read Andrea's lips but she's too far away and then the others come out of the church so they stop speaking and walk over to us. Shane walks over to Rick who is a bit away from us and they talk looking forward then at each other every so often so I can only read bits. But soon they stop and Shane comes towards us and says "Y'all gonna follow the creek bed back. Okay, Daryl, you're in charge. Me and Rick, we're just gonna hang back, search this area another hour or so just to be thorough." I shake my head and stand next to Rick who just walked up as Daryl asks "You're splitting us up. You sure?" "Yeah, we'll catch up to you." Shane says. "I want to stay, too. I'm her friend." Carl says causing Shane to look at Rick who looks at me, I nod so Lori says "Just be careful, okay? Stay with T." "I will." Carl says so she hugs him and asks "When did you start growing up?" Rick goes over and gives her a kiss while Carl walks over to me. He hugs her and says "I'll be along soon enough." Shane and Andrea have a staring contest. Rick tries to give Lori his gun but she says "I'm not taking your gun and leaving you unarmed." "Here, got a spare. Take it." Daryl says handing her the gun from the tent. He looks at me and nods before walking in front of his group as Andrea scoffs. We then split up. "Give me a minute?" Rick asks us before walking into the church. Shane rubs Carl's head and says "Come on." Before the two follow Rick to the church. I follow them and sit next to Carl on the steps as we wait for Rick. Rick comes out so Shane asks "Get what you needed?" "Guess I'll find out." Rick says walking off. Carl looks at me and I shrug so we get up follow him with Shane behind us.

****Time skip****

I'm leading them when we get into the woods. A branch snaps so I stop and pull Carl behind me. We slowly go in the direction of the snap and we see a deer through the branches. We stop and watch it go into a clearing. I look at Carl and he looks at me I nod and we start approaching the deer slowly as Rick whispers "Shane." Getting him to stop pointing his gun at the deer. We're getting closer so Carl looks back at them happy. We continue and he ends up stepping on a stick snapping it and causing the deer to look at us. I stop and let Carl go ahead on his own when I see the glint of the gun. Rushing forward I get in front of Carl as the gun fires. We both fall and Rick screams "No!" rushing forward as I sit up and put pressure on Carl's wound not caring about mine. The hunter comes out and says in a panic "I didn't see him. Hershel will help him." I pick Carl up and ask "Where?!" he points so I take off with Rick, Shane, and the guy hot on my heels.

The guy falls so Shane gets him but Rick and I keep going. Rick is struggling to keep up with me but when I see the farm house I sprint leaving Rick in the dust. The family come out as I get closer and the old one asks "Was he bit?" "Shot. By your man. He said to find Hershel. You him?" I say angry as they walk toward me. "Get him inside." Hershel says rushing inside I follow as Rick comes saying "Help him. Help my boy." When inside Hershel says "Patricia, I need my full kit. Maggie, painkillers, coagulates-grab everything. Clean towels, sheets, alcohol." Walking to a room taking off the sheets he says "In here." So I lay Carl down and put pressure on his wound again as Hershel says "Pillowcase." "Is he alive?" Rick asks. "Pillowcase, quick." He says again as he makes a tourniquet with his belt. "Is he alive?" Rick asks again getting the pillowcase but Hershel and I say "Fold it. Make a pad." Rick gives it to me so I but it on the wound and put pressure again as Hershel asks "You a doctor?" as he gets his stethoscope and listens for Carl's heart. "Are you?" I counter back, I know it's rude but hell I'm not gonna let this boy die even if I have to. "I've got a heartbeat. It's faint." Hershel says then stepping back says "Maggie, IV." One of the girls says "We need some space." Pushing Rick away. "Your name?" Hershel asks. "Rick. I'm-I'm Rick." Rick says so Hershel says "Rick we're gonna do everything we can, okay? You need to give us some room. Now." Putting the IV in Carl's arm.

The bleeding slows when Hershel asks me "Is that your blood?" "No." I say quickly probably too quickly as he pulls up my hoodie and says "You need help too." "No, Carl is first, I don't care if I die as long as he lives." I say quickly as he tries to get me to sit down. Just then Rick, Shane, and Otis come in so Hershel gives up and asks "You know his blood type?" "A-Positive, same as mine." Rick says so Hershel says "That's fortunate. Don't wander far. I'm gonna need you. What happened?" "I was tracking a buck. Bullet went through it. Went clean through." Otis says. I lift the pad a bit so Hershel can see so he says "The deer slowed the bullet down, which certainly saved his life. But it did not go through clean. It broke up into pieces. If we can get the bullet fragments out…and I'm counting two in him." "Lori doesn't know. My wife doesn't know. My wife doesn't know." Rick says crying so Shane takes him out of the room. So I look at Hershel and he nods. He hands me the tweezers as he helps hold Carl down if he wakes up. I get one out and he wakes up and starts crying. "He needs blood." I say simply as I look for the other one so one of the girls opens the door and says "Rick. He need blood." When they come in Hershel tells Shane "You, hold him down." As Carl yells "Dad!" "I got him." Shane says as the woman help hold Carl down goes to hook up Rick. Carl starts screaming so Rick yells "Stop! You're killing him!" "Rick, do you want him to live?" Hershel asks. The woman then says "He needs blood." So Shane yells at him "Do it now!" Rick then lets her do it. Carl passes out so Rick and Shane start panicking so I say "He just passed out." As I pull out the last piece. "I'm sorry. I didn't see it in time." I say putting the bandages on Carl as Hershel checks his blood pressure and says "Pressure's stable." "It's not your fault." Shane tells me as Rick says "Lori needs to be here. She doesn't even know what's going on. I've got to go find her. Bring her back." "You can't do that." Hershel tells him so Rick says "She's his mother. She needs to know what's happened. Her son's lying here shot." "And he's going to need more blood. He can't go more than 50 feet from this bed." Hershel tells Shane who nods and follows Rick out of the room. Hershel then comes over to me and says "You need to let me look." "No, not till he-"I start to say but everything goes black.

****Rick's POV****

"I need some help in here!" Hershel yells just as Maggie left to get Lori. We rush in and T is passed out on the floor with Hershel pressing on her side. "What-"I start but he says "We have to move her to the bed now!" Shane rushes forward, as I grab Carl off the bed, and lifts her on it. "Get the hoodie off! What's her blood type?" Hershel yells looking at me as Shane takes T's hoodie off. "I-I don't-"I stutter as Shane yells "O-negative! Shit!" reading her dog tag. "Beth! I need you now!" Hershel yells. She runs in and gasps but quickly sits in the chair I was in as Patricia hooks her up. "What's happening?!" I yell as T wakes up and starts screaming. "She took most of the bullet for your son. It got to be too much for her." Hershel says holding her down and trying to hook her up to the IV. Shane holds her down then so Hershel could hook her up and see the damage. "I need to remove these fragments. But they're deep and one must have nicked a blood vessel. See how her belly is distended. I need to go in and stitch it but she can't be moving like this or otherwise or I'll get an artery and she'll be dead in minutes. To even try to help her, I have to put her under. But if I do, she won't be able to breathe on her own. Same bad results." Hershel says bandaging her wounds. "What'll it take?" I ask as she passes out again. "You need a respirator. What else?" Otis says. "The tube that goes with it, extra surgical supplies, drapes, sutures." Hershel answers so I ask "If you had all that you could save her?" "If I had all that, I could try." He answers. "Nearest hospital went up in flames a month ago." Otis says but adds "The high school." When Hershel looks at him. "That's what I was thinking. They set up a FEMA shelter there. They would have everything we need." Hershel says so Otis says "Place was overrun last time I saw it. You couldn't get near it. Maybe it's better now." Shane looks at Carl then at T and says "Doc, why don't you do me a list and draw me a map?" "You won't need a map. I'll take you there. Ain't but five miles." Otis says but Patricia says "Otis no." "Honey, we don't have time for guesswork and I'm responsible. I ain't gonna sit here while this fella takes this on alone. I'll be alright." Otis says so Shane asks "Are you sure about this?" "You even know what any of the stuff he's talking about looks like?" Otis asks so Shane says "Come to think, no." "I've been a volunteer EMT. I do. We can talk about this till next Sunday or we could just go do it real quick." Otis says. "I'll take right quick." Shane says. I look at Otis and say "I should thank you." But he says "Wait till that girl of yours is up and around. Then we'll talk. I'll gather some things.” And walks off. "You can set your boy on the coach out there." Hershel then tells me so Shane goes with me to put him down.

"Shane, why didn't she say anything?" I ask him sitting down. "I would say it's because she's mute but that's just a cover." Shane says. "She didn't hesitate to put Carl's life before hers. Yet I can't help her." I say looking at him. "What you can do to help her is keep her calm, while I go get the things." He says pointing to the room she was in before adding "That girl in there…she saved Carl so I'm not going to let her die."

****T's POV****

I wake up but don't scream even though I want too, not knowing where I was. I stare at the ceiling and my dead parents come into view. "Hey, baby girl." Mom says stroking my hair and getting in the bed next to me. "Why'd you come? I don't deserve it." I say to her. She starts crying and Dad says "You do. You're a good girl." "Mom?" I ask feeling sleepy. "What?" she asks so I ask "How do you know you love someone? Like love, love." "Do you trust them? With everything?" she asks. "I want to…" I say looking at her but add "Daryl will he be sad if I die?" "Very." Dad says so I ask "Will you tell him for me?" feeling my eyes get heavy. "You can when you get better." Mom says as I go back to sleep.

****Rick's POV****

When Lori and I come in the room T's looking at the ceiling so we go over to her. "Hey, baby girl." Lori says stroking her hair and getting in the bed with her. "Why'd you come? I don't deserve it." T says simply. Lori starts crying as I say "You do. You're a good girl." She blinks slowly and asks "Mom?" so Lori asks "What?" "How do you know you love someone? Like love, love." T asks and I hold my breath as Lori asks "Do you trust them? With everything?" T looks at her and says "I want to…Daryl, will he be sad if I die?" Lori nods as I say "Very." But T asks "Will you tell him for me?" as her eyes start closing. "You can when you get better." Lori tells her as her eyes close completely. "Lori, what are we gonna do?" I ask her. She looks at me determined and says "We are gonna take care of this little girl. You hear me? She is our baby now too." "I know that. I was talking about Daryl." I say. "You mean…"She says trailing off so I say "Ever since they first met. Didn't you see it?" "I just thought my eyes were playing tricks on me." She says laughing before saying "We tell him only if….you know." "Death." I state simply and she nods getting out of the bed.

We go out of the room and she says to Hershel "Okay, so I understand, when Shane gets back with this other man-""Otis." He supplies so she continues "Otis. The idiot who shot my kids." "Ma'am, it was an accident." Hershel says. "I'll take that under advisement later. For now he's the idiot who shot our kids." She says grabbing my hand so I say "Lori, they're doing everything they can to make it right." "Okay, as soon as they get back you can perform this surgery?" She asks. "I'll certainly do my best." He answers so she asks "Okay. You've done this procedure before?" "Well, yes, in a sense." He says so she asks "In a sense?" so I say "Honey, we don't have the luxury of shopping for a surgeon." "No, I understand that. But I mean you're a doctor, right?" She asks. "Yes, ma'am. Of course. A vet." He says so she asks "A veteran? A combat medic?" "A veterinarian." He answers causing both her and I to pause and lose a little hope but she asks "And you've done this surgery before on what? Cows? Pigs?" and I start sitting down saying "I-I have-I have to sit." But fall into the chair so Lori looks at Hershel and asks "Completely in over your head, aren't you?" "Ma'am aren't we all?" Hershel asks.

****Yori's POV****

"Hey kid? What's your name?" I ask her as I wrap her ankle. She had slipped into the river on the way to the cabin and broke it so I wanted to wait till it had a couple of days to heal before making the trek back to the highway. "Sophia." She answers. "Sophia? Well ain't that the cutest name for the cutest little girl." I say smiling at her causing her to laugh. "Why do you feel sad?" she asks suddenly so I ask "Why would you think I'm sad?" "Well, I know I'm worried about T and that makes me sad." She says and I ask her "You feel it too don't you?" She nods so I say "Yeah, T's probably gotten herself into trouble again." "Again?" she asks. "Yup, it's how I lost my leg. When we were in the war, there was this kid, not much older than you. He was held hostage, so T being T just walks up to them hands in the air. They get confused and someone arms a grenade. T pulls the kid under her as I run to get to her. We make it for the most part. I lost my leg, T lost the will to live." I tell her standing up. "She did that with us too." She says so I ask "What?" "Yeah, when we were in the CDC building and trying to get out she used a grenade to blow the window. But Daryl protected her. They like each other you know." She says happy. "Daryl?" I ask not knowing him. "Yeah, but they don't know it themselves. My Mom told me." She says causing me to say "Well your mom is probably right." "Why? If you like someone wouldn't you know?" She asks innocently. "Usually you would. But in T's case, she's afraid to love someone and she doesn't know how it feels to love someone." I say. "But she loves you right?" she asks causing me to chuckle and say "We're family, that's a different type of love." "So they love each other with the kissing love?" She asks serious. "Probably, though it might just be the type of love you have for friends." I say causing her to shake her head and say "Nope, that's how she feels about Glenn. You act a lot like him. That family and friend love is the same. T and Daryl love love each other." "You're pretty smart." I say then causing her to smile proudly and say "I know!"
