What if I write Regulus dying and Barty having to watch and it finally pushing him over the edge because Reggie was all he had left and he thought he was being careful??? What then??

I've been thinking a little about how my view of some ships has changed with time. I always liked to treat fruk as two sides of a coin, but a few years ago, I had this epiphany that I was completely wrong. Let me explain why.

When I think of two sides of a coin, I quickly think of two characters like Russia and America, one so distinctively different from the other that their function is to counter the other. To me, that's rusame or amerus. They are two sides of the proverbial coin; they only manage to exist if the other is there to counter their existence, and that's why I see them as a tragedy pair; they can never meet in the middle. Without one, the other loses its function; they need this counterforce, or they will simply find another. They are so essentially different that they are clearly one opposing the other; if one of them doesn't exist, the other will exist just as easily and find another one to replace their function. Hell, if they were equal, their dynamics would completely shift; they are opposing elements, particularly in the geopolitical and ideological arenas. Can they coexist? Theoretically, they can, but it's very complex and multifaceted, often requiring negotiation, compromise, and a focus on common ground, which is something none of them is willing to do.

Rusame are diametrically opposed, while Fruk often go hand-in-hand.

Fruk/Ukfr is very different in the way that they were both struggling to be the same facet of the coin. There was never that distance that would tell you one is this and the other is that, because they are quite similar in several things, they are part of the same fundamental nature. Indeed, their competition indeed fueled the differences, but in the end, they were always trying to fill that gap that could be easily filled by one or the other, and what differed were the goals. France always had a continental interest in dominance and cultural expansion, while Britain had an interest in economic dominance and maintaining a balance of power. These are interests that can coexist, which tells me they would both fit in that proverbial coin if they were willing to do so but were stubbornly unwilling to do that.

I think that since that moment, my own way of treating these relationships has changed, and I'd love to read what people think about it tbh...
