a/n: my submission for @suyacho & @pcwer “the NBHD collab” ! I chose the song “scary love” (obviously for my angst era). I haven’t written in a while, pls be gentle. also unedited and not beta read.

Gray. It’s such a bland color; You’ve never been a fan of it. The deep dismality of it- rain clouds, pavement, the clandestine serenity. All things you remember all too well from that day. The day that brought the loss of someone so important to the both of you. And here you are today, standing on browning grass and weeds in an unmarked landscape surrounded by stories that ended too soon. Rain and storms aren’t to be romanticized. Black skies, luminescent lightning drilling, stabbing its way between the grief of the clouds and the universe falls heavy against your shoulders. And he’s here too.

Eyes covered by black rimmed sunglasses, shielded from the world and mistreatments he knows all too well. A bright blue that were ocean-strong, swimming with warm sun-lit currents. Passion transforms through the slate outer rings swooped by arcs of teal, infinite hues illuminated by new light. But behind those eyes lies secrets too strong to read, an icy fire that ravaged through your veins everytime he looked at you. But today was different, as teardrops from the sky soaked through your worn umbrella, you stole a glance through your peripherals- platinum hair stuck to his forehead and those eyes you’ve come to know were not the same. They were transformed fathoms deep in cesspools of inky blue. You couldn’t stand to see him this way and when you gradually slipped your hand into his he flinched away from the contact.

“Satoru, we should go. You’ll catch a cold if you stay in the rain any longer.”

He shoved his hands in his pockets, still fixated on the expanse of the ground before him. A slight shake of his head had water sprinkling around you, slipping down his cheek like a tear though he showed no signs of crying. You took a small step closer and it was like the eggshell of the space between you cracked, shredding the grass and plants apart as he drifted further and further away from you.

“You go, I’ll get a cab or something. Don’t worry about me,” though the slight crack in his already raspy voice had you biting your lip in anxiety.

Of course you were going to worry, you loved him. Seeing him standing there like nothing was bothering him but the whole world broke against his edges in a fleeting minute. You wanted to reach out to him, say something to him but the words fought to come to life against your iron tongue. A blank sigh wafted from between your lips as you turned on your heels- there was no sense in arguing the issue with him.

“I’ll see you at home then, don’t be out too late. And Satoru?” - you peered from over your shoulder back towards him - “I love you.” And you walked off without a response, you had a deep feeling he wouldn’t repeat the words to you but still you spoke them, and you persisted. He needed to know that you were there for him and respected and cherished him, even if he couldn’t see it through grief bound eyes.

You drove through the winding downtown streets, windshield wipers set to a quicker pace as the rain picked up. You blinked back tears you knew would eventually stream down the apple of your cheeks. Your vision blurred as you clicked on your blinker to turn left into your apartment complex and into an empty space to park. You stumble out, water dripping around your face and staining your shoulders briefly before the security of a rusted umbrella propels open above you. The wire framing is bent on a few steel ribs so it doesn’t open fully, nor correctly. But it still works for what it's meant to do. It's funny that way- the comparison of your life to this worn umbrella. The outer canopy only has minor wear but the framework, the inside that’s hidden, is barely holding together. Silver duct tape wraps around a few of the steel spokes, mending areas that started to pull and break apart. Sometimes you felt as though you had a string of tape wrapped around your limbs to hold you together, but you didn’t need it all that much now, he did. You couldn’t be glue but you could try to be tape.

Your feet walked you up the stairs to the third floor apartment though your mind was elsewhere, hazy with memories that sputtered to the forefront of your mind. You shook out your umbrella at the door and wiped your shoes on the mat before turning the key in the bronze lock and heading inside. You took your time winding down; taking a shower, putting on comfortable clothing, and making a small cup of coffee as you sat down in the paisley print loveseat by the window. It wasn’t the prettiest item and didn’t match the theme of the apartment but it was yours. Satoru bought all the pieces in the space, and it was aesthetically pleasing and felt luxurious- black, white, gray color themes and leather couches littered atop geometric patterned throw rugs. But this chair was yours, and it made you feel at home rather than just your boyfriend's place that the two of you share.

You sipped the hot liquid, letting it stream down your throat and warm you from the inside out. Raindrops slipped down the glass of the window and seeped into the small weathered corners of the pane, creating a small puddle that reflected the light of the desk lamp on your left. Your mind once again wanders to better memories than this. Melancholy swipes at your feet like a soft wave at first, but ends up crashing over you like a tidal wave hurling you under the surface. It stains your teeth and tongue like a blue candy. It tastes you with the tip of its tongue before swallowing you whole, only to spit you back out. Greedy, wanting hands grab at your flesh; clutching onto your chest with wine-dark scratches. Melancholy- this deep unwavering sadness- spindles into your bloodstream and creates space for itself, and it never leaves quietly.

Hours have passed, the ticking of the clock on the wall grows obnoxiously loud as you stare at the door- waiting for the handle to turn, a knock to be heard, for a breath to seep through the red-painted wood. You’re subconsciously picking at your nails, the cuticles now red and some bleeding before you finally see movement. You shoot up in your chair, knocking the coffee cup to the ground, its porcelain pieces shatter against the dark wood flooring. He stumbles inside, soft water droplets roll off the ends of his hair and crash down on the welcome mat. The smell of whisky and redbull assault your senses as soon as he enters; the worry on your face doesn’t waver. And he looks at you with those solemn blue eyes again that tear into your space- hurtling through your boundaries like a missile. It’s cold in his heart nowadays; Ice shielding over the most vulnerable spots and taking solace in his veins, turning his red to blues. He’s lost so many people causing his walls to be built in cement and iron.

“Oh, you’re still awake. I thought you'd be asleep” his words slur together as he turns his view away from you.

“Of course I’m still up, I’ve been worried about you- it's 3 o'clock in the morning, Satoru.” He looks back at you as you speak, a sigh leaving his parted lips as they quiver slightly.

“I- I don't think I can do this anymore, y/n…” He stutters on the words but they are spoken clearly as he sobers up on the sentence.

You scrunch your eyebrows in confusion, not quite understanding the words that fall from his tongue. A reply forms in your mind but it can’t get past the knot in your throat as you try to speak, eyes watering in the corners and along the lash line. You knew Gojo had never had a relationship like the one you were giving him. You were patient and understanding, though you did bicker from time to time but that was normal as you tried to navigate through this life and his grief that weighed down on his shoulders.

“This love you have for me- it’s scaring me. I can’t keep up anymore.” His words are more forceful now, spilling out like magma from an erupting volcano and burning the tips of your fingers that reach out to him.

“You can’t keep running from things that scare you. I knew what I was getting myself into when we started this. I knew loving you would be like walking through a minefield in the morning and I’m lucky to be a deadman walking for you.” You spoke precisely and effortlessly but your tone had a softness that you could almost feel the cold breath of his ice melting, sending shivers up the ladder of your spine.

The way you looked at him, breathing constellations through bouts of consolidated prayers and determination in your eyes. You looked at him like you would hold him until your palms burned and ached from the fire that was his skin. At that moment, he thought for a second, how beautiful it is to find a person that loves you without asking for anything. He needed you with your saccharine words and evergreen whispers of touch that bloom his pressed, dead flowers. And he breaks. Falling to his knees as sobs wreck through his chest, held back tears finally falling and finding solace on your shoulder when you dive into the trenches of his unrestrained emotions.

“You can’t push me away with half-assed threats that you only speak in the darkness and under barrel aged liquors. I’m right here for you- as I was before, as I will be again. I love you.”

“I need you.” His whispers in desperation through staggered breaths against the valley of your neck and you shiver.

You pull away, placing gentle hands on either cheek of his, universes radiating and warming through your fingertips as you look into his sorrowful blue eyes. Six; through all 6 of those god-like eyes he couldn’t see how much he meant to you and the love that you had for him. If falling in love with Satoru Gojo was a sin then you wanted no place in heaven. The room falls away from you, the sound of the pouring rain muffled through the way your lips fit so unbearingly effortless against his. It’s like second nature; muscle memory as they melt and tangle against one another. Tongue sweeping along the insides of your cheeks, however smoothly, like a soft tango with no music to hold tempo. It's fervent, fiery but sad and the tears keep falling down his cheeks staining your own skin. You can taste the remnants of the golden liquor pouring into your mouth like cascading sunshine in a small room. But you don’t care, you never did. Not when he speaks so desperately, the tenor of his voice collapsing against the strings of your heart and playing a melody of want, of need.

And you love him.

His calloused hands find the underside of your thighs through bent knees and lift you to find comfort in between dryer warmed sheets of the king sized bed. The dim streetlights and incoherent rumbling of scattered cars are left in the background as hands pull and prod against clothing. The lights off, leaving insecurities in the brightness of incandescent lamps that tend to flicker after being on for too long. There’s an unraveling feeling as the built up pressures between the two of you fall to pieces and puddles against the butterfly wing caresses and warmth of your flesh colliding. And somewhere against the feeble light of the early dawn you fall asleep in eachothers arms, bodies fitting like a gemstone in a cavern; perfectly and not to be disturbed. In that special peace that only the early sky can bring he whispers back-

“I love you.”

And if you had less than a minute to live, you would kiss him. That is, perhaps, the scariest thing about love.

Kidnapped (Mob Tom Holland X reader ) Part 3

A/n : I know I haven’t been posting lately…so here u go another mob fic. This is the last part of the series so enjoy and pls send requests of what you want to read. :)))

You stood there terrified of what was going to happen to Tom. You looked over to see if his hands were still bound . You saw that he had cut his ropes and was pointing to somewhere. You looked at the area he was pointing at and saw a gun.

Jameson looked at it too.

“Don’t you dare move or else your not soon to be hubby is gonna be dead.” He snarled.

“Ok stop what do you want ?” You questioned feebly scared for tom's life.

“I already told you sweetie just his mob and yo-AHHHH! SHIT!!” He shouted in pain as Tom stabbed his thigh with the pocket knife.

Jameson doubled over shooting randomly , the bullet hitting the roof.

You shrieked and covered your head while backing away. Tom took the gun off the ground and pointed it to Jameson. Tom didn't have any strength left but he had too get you out of here.

"Look how the table have turned jameson" Tom smirked "I'm not going to give you a free pass to death so easily, no, I'm going to make you suffer just like you made me". Tom kept pointing towards Jameson and took out his phone out of his pocket. He dialled Harrison's no. and told him the address while you started tying Jameson to the chair. Jameson begged and apologised furiously but tom ignored him and took something out of Jameson's hand.

He walked over to you while you were cleaning the blood off your face with you shoulder.

"Are you ok ,love?" Tom asked concerned.

"Are you ok?" You repeated his question with slight tears in your eyes.

"It happens often so I'm completely ok, I repeat how are you milady?"

You smiled a bit even when covered in blood and bruises he still made you laugh.

"Shut up,lets go home."

You walked out of the warehouse with his hand around your shoulders , limping slightly. You could still hear Jameson's screaming.

"Y/N wait". Tom looked at you.

"What happened?"

Tom took your hand in his and put your ring on your finger.

"Did you forget about it ?" Tom asked teasingly.

Your eyes widened looking at it and you smiled a bit.

You glanced up at Tom and pulled him in for a kiss harshly. The kiss was needy and rough but it was filled love and fear, relief and happiness. It tasted salty yet sweet . You parted from him. Lips brushing against each another .

"I love you darling and I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you and that you had to go through that because of me." Tom said with anger in his eyes.

You brushed your thumb against the bruise under his left eye and smiled reassuringly, "It's ok Tommy and I love you too"

"You know those were some badass moves there , I got to tell the boys all about it" Tom said with a smirk. You laughed and patted him lightly on his chest and continued walking.

You kept walking to the city to get in a cab with the love of your life.

A/N: im soRRY but ya girl is i n s p i r e d. I started writing this at 5 am and im convinced that is when I get my best writing done, and that's on a fucked up sleep schedule. It was late and you were way to drunk to be walking the streets by yourself. Your friends had begged you to come out with them to go partying, you knew you would come to regret it in the morning. You and your friends slammed drinks after drinks without a care in the world, it was Halloween night after all, what else were a bunch of single ladies suppose to do. So this is how you were now carrying a pair of heels by your side, in a dress that was just a little to short, and a headband with fuzzy black ears now digging into your head because you can’t go out without a costume according to your friends.

Your feet patter against the rough concrete, the only thing protecting you from the ground is the pantyhose you threw on earlier in some attempt to be modest. The street lights in your neighbor hood shine a dim yellow light across the street, the only other light coming from decorations from houses you pass. No body was out on the street except for the other occasional drunks, seeing as it was some ungodly hour in the morning.

You would have called a cab if you had any clue what had happened to your phone, you faintly remember your friend taking at the beginning of the night so you couldn’t ditch them. Smart, because you NEVER did stuff like this. You’re considered the “mom” friend of your group. At this point you just wanted to plop down in your bed and forget about tonight.

Suddenly you’re taken out of your thoughts by the sound of foot steps behind you. You end up ignoring it, assuming it’s just another person trying to get home after a long night of partying, like yourself. You keep your pace and decide to take a short cut wanting to get out of your ridiculous “costume”, dipping into an alley you were very familiar with, never realizing how poorly lit it was, seeing as you were never out this late.

Red eyes, unknown to you, watch your every move. A smirk growing on his face as he enters the alley.

Walking down the road, you suddenly start feeling like you’re being watched so you quickly turn around to calm your nerve. Not seeing anyone behind you, you continue on your walk. You make the turn around the corner and confusion takes over as you face to face with a wall. Did I take a wrong turn? I could have sworn this was the right street.. You shrug your shoulders turning around to exit the dead end when you feel your heart stop. The only light in the alley was the moons glow, but that was all you needed to see those vermilion eyes staring into you. You go to let out a scream but are stopped as a hand covers your mouth.

“Hey, hey, we wouldn’t anyone to hear you and think something is wrong...” The man infront of you pauses, breaking your eye contact to let his eyes roam over you. A smirk takes over his face and you can see sharp canines peek out from his lip. He tilts his head to the side and reaches to your head fixing your ears “...now would we kitten”.

Your eyes dart behind him to see if there was any way someone could see what was happening and come help, but you knew deep down, no one was going to make the same mistake you did and walk into an empty dead end. The man infront takes a step toward you slowly closing the gap.

“So what’s a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone huh? Don’t you know there are bad men out walking the street at this hour.” He voice sending chills down your spine as you do everything in you power to keep your eyes off of him. Looking all around you for something, anything to get you out of that alley. You let out a gasp as you feel a hand make its way into your hair, “I asked you a question, you going to answer me?” His eye brow quirked as he waits.

“I was heading home from a party my friends invited me to, we all ended up getting really drunk. I was going to call a cab but I think one of my friends took my phone and she went home with some guy, even though she told me the reason she was taking me out was to get laid.” The truth spilling from you mouth without missing a bet. You hadn’t meant to say a that to the stranger but between the alcohol and his enchanting gaze, you couldn’t stop yourself. Your mouth drops open as you slam a hand to your lips, mortified at what you had just said. “I didn’t mean to say that.”

“You meant it though. Here I thought you were a good girl but all you want is some dick, such a dirty little slut.” His head dipping into your neck, licking a wet strip from your collarbone to just under you ear, stopping to nibble on your ear lobe. “I can make you feel so good you just got to say the word and I’ll make it happen.”

Your breath caught in your throat at the mans lewd words. All you could think of was to push him off of you but the growing heat in-between your legs prevented you. You felt as his hands traveled you body lightly, sending all types of chills down your spine and into your core. Quickly, you grab his wrists when they dip under your dress to your outer thighs.

“Oh what do have here, are you going to stop me princess. Go ahead tell me to stop, I dare you to try.” You open your mouth but no words come out. You were frozen between the wall and his gaze. You couldn’t find the words to make him stop. But honestly you didn’t want to. The burning trails his fingertips left as they dug into the sensitive skin on your legs was enough to make shiver in anticipation. “That’s what I had thought, now your going to be a good little girl for me now aren’t you? Going to do everything I tell you too”.

“But I-I don’t even know your name” you let out as a feeble attempt to get him to stop.

“It’s Katsuki and you can bet it’ll be the only name you remember when I done with you.”

He shakes his hands from your grasp and moves them to inner thigh, nudging your legs apart. Your leg open without you even thinking and a warm jolt gets sent to your core as you feel him rip open your pantyhose. He moves his head from his assault on your neck down your torso until he is met with your lacey underwear now on view. A blush crosses you face as you watch him lick his lips when he sees how wet you are from how little he has done to you.

“You’re soaked and I haven’t even touched you yet. You really are just a dirty little slut aren’t you.” Now on his knees he brings your legs further apart as he brings his face to your heated core. Locking his eyes with yours, he runs a long strip with his tongue against your clothed core. A wine escapes your lips at the action causing your already damp underwear to now be soaked. His teeth catch hold at the top and rips the garment off of you, you gasp as the cold air hits your newly exposed area. His warm breath fans across you as he sticks out his tongue again. You soon realized the situation you were in and how dirty it made you feel.

“I..I never do stuff like this” trying desperately to clear your image. You look down at the blond between your legs and notice two horns that stick out of each side of his head. Your eyes travel down his body taking in his large build and to the large black and red wings that come out form his back. “W-wait are you supposed to be the devil or something?” His eyes light up underneath you and he smirks

“Oh you have no idea” A load moan rips from your mouth as he plunges his tongue past your lips deep into you. You squirm as you feel it travel up inside of you, what the fuck no normal tongue can do this, but you are taken out of your thoughts as it brushes against your soft spongey wall. Just as quickly as the overwhelming sensation had came it left, his tongue retreating out of you as you let out a whine at lose of contact. “Quiet now, you don't want anyone to hear how desperate you are now do you?”

You nodded your head and bit down on your lip as the familiar feeling sends warm surges to your core. His tongue was going to be the death of you. The things you’d sign away to feel like this forever. The way it moved inside of you like no other, pressing against all the right spots perfectly. With how hard you were biting down on your lip you were sure you would draw blood but it was to good for you to handle. If this is just his tongue imagine if...the dirty thought causes you to clench around him. His moan vibrates against your clit at the feeling making you roll back your eyes at the sensation. Finally he manages to peel himself away and moves back up to your face, just inches away you can see his once bright red eyes darken with lust. “Now I am going to fuck you so hard you wont be able to walk the rest of the way home.” His hand finds its way around you neck lightly giving it a squeeze “But I bet a little slut like you would love that huh?”

You feel your airway constricting, not only from his hand but the words that he said, a throb surging through your already sensitive core. You hear him shuffle and then move his hand from your neck to the back of your thighs, giving them a squeeze making you jump. He lifts you up with that momentum and you instinctively wrap your legs around his hips. A whimper leaves your lips as you feel his head slide against your folds, coating in your slick.

“You’ll be seeing lots of me” His gaze drops down and you follow it to your wrist. Gasping as you seeing a binding mark on your wrist with a red glow to it. You quickly look and lock eyes with him, the same red glow meeting you. He lowers his head back to your ear once again as his next words send chills down your spine.

You and Seokmin have had feelings for each other for a while and it was quite obvious. You didn’t hide it from each other either, you were comfortable with one another and didn’t rush into things. You were pretty close with the rest of the members, they treated you like you were one of them. You usually chilled out in the corner of the studio while they practiced, you liked to watch them, it made you feel inspired and motivated. They were always so in sync, the talent always radiated from them whenever they got together. They acted like a team, they rarely had disputes and worked on their choreography together. You always payed attention to all of them but you gave Seokmin a bit more attention seeing as you fancied him. He’d always smile your way or wink making you blush.

You loved his energy, he was always energetic and happy. Whenever you had a bad day he’d come up with the craziest ways to make it better. Once, he brought a puppy to the studio just to make you smile. You couldn’t help but be happy around him, he radiated so much positive energy it was impossible to be upset when he was next to you. Maybe that’s why you were so attracted to him, he was quite the opposite of you and that’s what made you two good together. Opposites attract.

Seokmin came up to you after practicing and sat next to you.

“Would you let me take you out on a date? I asked Hoshi to cover for me tomorrow, I want to spend the whole day with just you.”

The question made you blush and made you feel all warm inside. The fact that he is risking getting caught to spend some time with you means the world to you.

“Of course! I don’t want you to get in trouble though.” You pout at him.

“Don’t worry it’s all worth it for you.” He gives you a peck on the cheek and goes back into the routine.

The rest of the day goes by pretty fast. You joke around with the guys and try to learn some moves but obviously failed miserably, you weren’t the greatest dancer.

“I have a few ideas for tomorrow but I’ll keep them a secret so it’s more of a surprise!” Seokmin says clearly very excited about tomorrows date.

“Just please nothing expensive or anything like that! You know I hate when you spend money on me.”

“Don’t worry it’ll be a nice day out.”

You pack up and head home while the guys head to their apartment. You went into your apartment and turned on your TV to not feel as lonely. Living alone sucked sometimes, there was no one to talk to and if you wanted to watch a horror you couldn’t unless you were in the mood to not sleep, because sleeping was not on the list after watching a horror. You decided to take a long bath and listen to some music while you’re relaxing. It was hard to relax when Seventeen, BTS and Monsta X were blasting in your bathroom and you couldn’t help but to sing along. Your bath lasted an hour because you lost track of time but you didn’t seem to mind. After that you ate some noodles while staring at the TV paying absolutely no attention because your efforts on concentrating were interrupted by lingering thoughts about your date with Seokmin tomorrow. You were excited what he had planned for you. You decide to head to bed so you won’t be a tired mess tomorrow. It takes you a while to fall asleep since you couldn’t stop smiling and the butterflies in your stomach weren’t helping.

You shoot up from your bed as you hear knocking from your door, you grab the first tshirt that you can find on the floor and walk over to the door. You open it and see Seokmin smiling from ear to ear holding a bouquet of flowers for you.

“What time is it?” you ask Seokmin, your eyes puffy, pretty bad bed head and you’re only wearing a tshirt and underwear.

“It’s 8am.” Seokmin answers you without changing his facial expression.

You can’t help but smile back at him. You welcome him in, take the flowers and find a vase for them. You need to get ready so you let Seokmin choose whether he wants to go through the agonizing pain of watching you do your makeup or if he wants to chill out in your living room and watch some TV. Undoubtedly, he picked the TV. You offered him some food and tea.

You go to your room to quickly put on some makeup, you weren’t really the type of girl that would go out of her way to put on loads of makeup, you preferred how your face looked with just mascara and eyebrows, your skin was pretty clear and you loved every freckle on your face so you didn’t want to cover them with foundation. You put your hair up in a high, relaxed ponytail and as for the clothes you put on an oversized baby pink jumper, denim jeans with small rips on them and white converse. You took your black backpack with you as well, handbags were a pain in the ass to carry around. You walk out to Seokmin and say you’re ready.

“You look so cute!” Seokmin complimented you and proceeded to ordered a cab. After 10 minutes, it was time to leave. You still had absolutely no idea where you were heading but it seemed like you were heading out of town. During the cab ride, Seokmin managed to make friends with the cab driver while you stayed quiet. You were pretty awkward and he definitely wasn’t. Once again, opposites attract.

You arrived at a carnival and gazed at the numerous attractions such as a big ferris wheel, candy floss, a skating ring. Everything was so exciting, the perfect place for Seokmin, he found himself in these places. You were nervous but delighted at the same time. This seemed like the perfect date destination. You weren’t a fan of the cliché dinner and a movie date. Seokmin knew how to have a good time and you were ready to enjoy your day at the carnival. You were definitely NOT excited about the ferris wheel since you had a massive fear of heights but you’d cross that bridge once you got to it. You got your wristbands and obviously, Seokmin insisted on paying for you, he always did.

“Can we pleeeeease get candy floss first?” you whined at Seokmin, he laughed at you and agreed straight away. You usually only saw pink candy floss but this place had all the colours. You decided to get green and he took blue, you pull out your phone and turn on the camera, both of you pose for a selfie of you eating candy floss. You wanted to take pictures of memories you’d want to remember forever and this was definitely one of them. As you enjoy your candy floss you walk around the carnival, there was a lot of performing taking place, fire breathing, dancing and some scary knife tricks you had no interest in.

Seokmin grabbed your hand and curled his fingers around yours. You got shy and tried to not make eye contact with him. You noticed the both of you were heading towards the ferris wheel.

“No no no no no no no! Please don’t make me go in it.” You cried. Seokmin held your hand tighter and pulled you along to it. “Come on it’ll be fine.” He reassures you. You sat into the umbrella of death and started to hyperventilate. These things didn’t have any seatbelts, the only thing that was protecting you from falling out was a singular metal pipe that went across the seats, the door looked like it was going to fall off. The dreaded moment comes and it starts to move, tears pooling in your eyes, Seokmin can’t help but laugh. You’re at the top and you feel your body weaken, you melt to the floor and wrap your legs and arms around the metal pipe that was connecting the umbrella to the cabin. You start crying out loud and Seokmin is in stitches from laughing at you.

“STOP! I’m so scared, I want to get off.” You state with tears rolling down your cheeks. The ferris wheel goes around 5 times, the people working it laughing at you as well. You were miserable on it but you still found humour in the situation. You’re finally able to get off it, your body softens and you fall onto the ground. You look bitterly at Seokmin while he just smiles and winks at you.

“Okay so, since I still have a bit of dignity left, let’s get rid of it completely and go skating.” You suggest confidently.

Both of you make your way over to the ring, getting skates that were way too tight and you knew they would leave your feet in blisters after taking them off. Everything is going pretty smoothly, you were holding hands, both laughing. Seokmin was obviously good at skating, he was good at everything he did. You fell a couple of times but it wasn’t anything serious, you just laughed it off and Seokmin helped you. You were skating and you looked up at Seokmin, everything seemed to slow down for you, you were in awe at how good he looked, it felt like fireworks were exploding in your stomach, you felt yourself fall for him even more. Seokmin noticed you glancing at him and stopped skating, he pulled you in closer and held you tight. You wrapped your hands around his neck and kissed him. It was your first kiss with him, it felt so right, you imagined this moment in your head over and over but never thought it would feel so ideal. You pull away and he throws you a smile. You get off the ring and go to the green area and sit on the grass with him. Eventually you lied down on the grass, staring up to the sky, you couldn’t get over how impeccable this felt.

“Jagi, I really like you and I know you like me too, we’ve been dancing around each other for quite a while now, I don’t know what took me so long but I would love for you to be my girlfriend, what do you say?” he looks with hope in his eyes. You can’t help but squeal from excitement and hug into him and quickly say yes.

The whole day was so flawless and you were finally able to say you’re his and he’s yours. It was so exciting. He always made you so happy and knew he’d continue to do so. The rest of the evening you spent talking about how much you liked each other and were glad you’re finally together. It started getting colder and the carnival emptied, you decided it was time to go home so you ordered a cab.

Seokmin walked you to the door of your apartment, kissed your hand and said goodnight, what a gentleman. He walked off but you chased him so you could plant one last kiss on him before the end of the day. You smiled at each other and you walked back to your door and watched him go down the street. He always looked so effortlessly handsome, women would always stare at him but it didn’t bother you anymore seeing as he was yours and he’d never do anything to hurt you. You felt like an idiot smiling away to yourself, people who walked by definitely thought you were crazy but you didn’t care. You couldn’t wait to see what the future held for both of you, you were ready and excited for the adventure.

Barbie And Her Monster High Doll Chapter 1. (Adore x Trixie ft Alaska) - Lemonade

AN: I’ve been wanting to write an Adore x Trixie fic for so long, you guys have no idea!!! (legit there are three unfinished stories w/ these two on my phone). It starts out more Alaska/Trixie at first, Adore pops up towards the end. The next chapter is where Adore/Trixie really start to take off. If there’s enough interest I’ll do my best to write/sumbit a chapter every 1-2 weeks (pls don’t hold me to that though). Also, I’ve made a side blog @aqlemonade!! I’ll try to have it dolled up before this is posted but if not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway I hope you guys enjoy!!!

“Alaska?!” Trixie called from the opposite side of the room, a sea of intoxicated individuals separating them. The only glimpse she could catch of her girlfriend was the the tip of Alaska’s teased to the high heavens hair. If the platinum blonde didn’t bop up occasionally with the music Trixie would have assumed she abandoned her. “Laska?!?!” Trixie raised her voice, which she usually hated doing, but there was no way Alaska would be able to hear her with the music pounding through the small apartment if she hadn’t. “Trix?” Alaska shouted back at the top of her lungs. Trixie perked up as she heard Alaska call her name back, sounding completely trashed, but comforting Trixie’s growing anxiety nonetheless. “Wait right there baby, I’m coming for you!” Alaska yelled to Trixie with a faux dramatic edge to her tone.

Alaska pushed and danced her way through the crowd. She stumbled over to Trixie, tripped over her own two feet, and fell straight into her love’s arms. “Hi babe.” Alaska flashed Trixie a cheesy grin, pushing herself up just enough to kiss her cheek. “I want to go home.” Trixie spoke urgently. Parties were far, far out of her comfort zone. Alaska always wanted to go crash the nearest one. While she never forced (she even given up asking) Trixie to go with her, Trixie still felt awful for not accompanying her girlfriend anywhere the platinum blonde usually dwelled. She took a chance, deciding to tag along this time, which she began to regret about five seconds after the bottom of her heel hit the floor. Alaska rolled her eyes, pouting up at Trixie. “C'mon,” She drawled. “We’ve only been here for an hour.” It was definitely the alcohol. If Trixie wanted to go, (sober) Alaska would be right behind her. Admittedly, she might cover her annoyance with a bright smile, but she did do her best to accommodate her girlfriend’s struggle.

Trixie hated this, she hated the insensitive little comments Alaska would make about her anxiety. She knew it had only been an hour, she knew any other ‘normal’ person would be living it up, drinking and dancing with their girlfriend, but she couldn’t. The entire situation was overwhelming from the jump and Trixie kicked herself in the ass for even putting herself in this position. “I’m going, you clearly don’t care anyway.” Trixie pushed Alaska off of her, beginning to make that impossible journey through a hoard of people and to the door when Alaska grabbed her, pulling her back to her previous place. “What the fuck do you mean I clearly don’t care?” Alaska screamed over the music, the chattering of a room full of people, and the moaning emitting from a couple in the corner with their hands down each other’s pants.

Trixie didn’t have a moment to respond as Alaska continued on her drunken rampage. “Every fucking time we go somewhere it’s: ‘Oh, Alaska, I have to go. It’s too crowded, there’s too many people here.’ Or: ‘Oh Alaska I can’t handle a simple fucking task like ordering my own goddamn coffee at Starbucks.’” Trixie opened her mouth to argue, to defend herself despite the tears pricking her eyes, but Alaska cut her off again. “All that stupid fucking shit I put up with, and you have the nerve to tell me I don’t care?” The woman’s face was contorted in anger as she stared down her girlfriend. Her expression would be better suited on Trixie’s face after being belittled for her anxiety in front of an apartment full of people; Instead she had the look of an abused puppy: sorrowful and utterly heartbroken. She swallowed down the lump in her throat, though her voice betrayed her instantly, unmasking the pain Alaska’s words inflicted upon her. “That’s the thing Laska…” She trailed off for a minute or two. Her eyes wandered from her girlfriend’s to a more comfortable spot glued to the tacky patterned carpet on the ground. “If you cared you would know I have no control over this. If you cared you would know how hard I try every day to do things that seem sofucking simple to you. If you even listened to me you would know I hate being like this. I wish I could go out with you, and your friends, and not feel like I’m suffocating. I wish I could order my own drink and not have my girlfriend do it for me because even the thought of talking to someone is overwhelming. So I’m sorry for all the stupid fucking shit I put you through, just know it’s ten times worse for me. I feel like shit about it anyway without you constantly making me feel worse.” Guilt began to seep into Alaska’s blood stream, replacing the booze and sobering her up a bit.

“Trix, I didn’t mean it.”

“Yes, you did mean it. You meant every word, Alaska.”

She reached over to cup Trixie’s face, but Trixie shied away from her touch. Alaska sighed, bringing her arm back to her side. They stood in their own silence. The noise around them was ear-splitting, yet the two felt like they were in their own painfully quiet bubble. Trixie was the first to burst it. “I can’t do this anymore. I can’t be with someone who won’t even try to understand me.” A sad, knowing look was shared between the two of them. This had been a long time coming. “I don’t think you want to be with me anymore anyway, do you Alaska?” If she said she did, Trixie might crumble right under her words. She was never strong in her decisions, and had a desperate need to be loved. She’d take it from anywhere even if the situation wasn’t healthy.

Alaska’s eyes spoke before her words had the chance to. Trixie understood them, finally letting the tears she was holding in drop down her painted cheeks, causing runs in her otherwise perfect makeup.

“I have to go.”

“Trix, wait.” Alaska pulled her back yet again, this time into a hug. “I’m so sorry.” She whispered into her ear. Alaska wished she was a better person, that she had the patience to understand Trixie, but she didn’t. Her girlfriend–ex girlfriend, deserved that. If she couldn’t give it to her she hoped she found it with someone else.

When Trixie retreated from the hug Alaska ran her hands over her skin tight jeans, pulling out a wad of cash she was going to use to get them both a ride home to the other side of town. “Here.” She shoved the money in Trixie’s hands. “Take this to get a cab, and don’t wait around outside. It’s a bad neighborhood.” The girl with rosy pink cheeks looked down at the money she was holding.

“Laska, no. How are you gonna get home?”

Alaska shrugged her shoulders. “Won’t be the first time I’ve had to find my own way home. I’ll hitch a ride with someone here or something.”

After a good deal of convincing, Trixie took the money Alaska offered her. “Text me when you get home, okay? So I know you made it there safely.” Trixie nodded in the direction of Alaska’s voice as she scurried out the door.

Alaska had told her not to wait outside, but the last thing Trixie could think of right now was anything her ex-girlfriend had said in that condensed little room. Trixie bolted through the front door of the building, stopping at the bottom of the steps while gripping the railing for dear life. She held her free hand over her chest. Her heart beat so fast she feared it would burst right through her. She would do anything to be able to run back into Alaska’s arms. Even if she didn’t understand her, a calming embrace felt more like a necessity at the moment.

Instead of comforting arms Trixie was met with a threatening, “Hey, princess.” The man seemed as if he had emerged from the shadows, popping up out of no where. Trixie definitely did not catch sight of him when she first ran out or else she would have ran back in. He was tall, at least six foot and towering over Trixie as he creeped closer to her. She gulped, preparing herself for any of the million scenarios running through her head to became a reality. Her knuckles turned white as the grip she held on the railing became a vice of life or death. “Look,” the man spoke as he eerily approached the young woman. His face was pale with a bright red scar running across his left cheek. Trixie tried to etch every physical feature the man had into her brain: bright red scar, pale skin, icy blue eyes, the right one slightly lazy, hooked nose, cleft chin…“I’m not gonna beat up some nineteen year old girl wearing a pink dress.” His words broke her concentration. “Just give me your phone and money. Make it easier on the the both of us, alright?”

Trixie nodded. Shaking hands unbuckled the purse on her shoulder as she pulled out her iPhone and the money Alaska had given her for a ride home. As she looked up to pass the items over she caught a blur of flannel and ratty black hair swinging at the man’s jaw, grabbing her own wrist, and yanking her down the street with them. The person’s hand had remained wrapped around Trixie’s fragile wrist as their feet beat against the pavement. They were running for their lives at this point, the man who only staggered from the blow had begun chasing after them.

Trixie’s pace started to slow. She wasn’t athletic, and her breathing had already been compromised due to an oncoming anxiety attack she almost fell victim to after initially leaving the party. On top of all that, she was clad in five inch, bright pink heels while the person who saved her ran comfortably in black combat boots. Her arm dropped from the other girl’s grip, her hands falling to her knees as she desperately gasped for air. The darker haired girl stopped in her tracks, turning around to the blonde and giving Trixie the first real glance of her face since she came to her rescue.

This woman was…stunning. She had to be the most beautiful human Trixie ever laid her eyes on. Her cheeks were splashed with pink glitter, her lips nude and plump–What an awful time for this thought to come about, but Trixie couldn’t help but to envision how mind blowing they would feel between her legs. “C'mon, Barbie.” Her voice raspy, sending a slight shiver up Trixie’s spine that broke the trance that had fallen over her. “You can’t give up on me now, he’s right behind us!” He wasn’t. The girl just wanted to get as much distance between themselves and the attacker as possible; Fear seemed like the best tactic to get this exhausted girl moving again. She grabbed Trixie’s wrist, beginning to run, forcing Trixie to keep up with her. “Fight the patriarchy! Prove to them you can run in heels!” She called back to her as she sped up, dragging Trixie along like a stuffed animal on a leash. The statement made zero sense, though somehow encouraged Trixie to power through until she was directed into a tight alley way.

“What are we–” Trixie began to question breathlessly before the girl’s hand was over her mouth. She made a shushing motion to her, signaling her to shut the fuck up. They stood like that until the asshole chasing them eventually passed with enough distance between them. Now that they were in a dimly lit area, Trixie could see her hero better. The woman couldn’t be much older than her, if not the same age. Her smudged eyeliner circled the most dazzling pair of eyes: vividly colored green and sparkling in the moonlight. She wore a black tank top, jean shorts, ripped black tights, combat boots and a red flannel that was one of the only things Trixie could pick out about her in the haze of the night’s earlier events. Her hair looked like it hadn’t been brushed once in her lifetime. A makeshift brass knuckle decorated her right hand. This girl embodied everything Trixie, with her perfectly pinned up blonde hair, precise makeup, and all-pink outfit wasn’t. She hadn’t known her very long, but Trixie knew she was strong; Strong in a way Trixie only wished she could be.

Trixie licked the girls palm so she’d remove it from her lips. The girl withdrew her hand, wiping the spit off on her flannel without seeming fazed by the move at all. She replaced it with a soothing hand (the one Trixie hand’t licked) cupping Trixie face as she looked over her features. It wasn’t much, but after craving some sort of physical comfort all night, the touch nearly brought her to tears.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?” The girl moved Trixie’s face to examine her, her shiny eyes scanning over the skin left exposed by her outfit as well for any signs of trauma. “No.” Trixie croaked out, shaking her head. “He just wanted my phone and money–said he didn’t want to attack a girl in a pink dress.” She dryly chuckled.

Trixie shook the woe is me attitude she felt approaching straight away. She had not only been almost robbed, but broke up with her girlfriend all in the same day, within the same hour. But here stood this gorgeous hero, who saved her from at least one of those events; She was nothing but grateful for their presence. “Thank you so much for saving me back there.” She spoke before the other could. The girl shrugged as if it was no big deal, just part of her daily routine, saving naive girls form the dangerous streets of neighborhoods they aren’t familiar with. “If us girls don’t protect each other, who will?” She answered simply. “Especially around here, especially when I get the impression you don’t hang here that often–” She looked her up and down in all her bright pink glory. “Or at all.”

The blonde blushed under her wandering eyes. Say something, Trixie urged herself.

She held her hand out, fresh french tip manicure and all. “I’m Tracy-Trixie! I’m Trixie.”

The other girl snickered at her obvious nervousness, taking her manicured hand into hers, chipped black nail polish from the dollar store and all.

“I’m Adore.”

why is it that in massachustts that if you have a deductable of $500 on your car insurance policy and put in a claim for $900 dollars you are charged a surcharge of $360 for 6 years why do we have insurance and pay a high premium to start with. they should pay the claim for the $400 difference without a surcharge. i have 3 cars insured and it seems that i pay for the insurance but have no benefit from it.

I wrap my arms around my legs and put my cheek on my knee, exhaling as I try to push the part-dream, part-memory out of my mind. I go into the bathroom, splash my face, look into my eyes and I’m still the lost girl in the elevator. When did I become this girl? I’m not this girl, I think in frustration as I stamp out to my room.

I go back to bed and cover myself with the sheets all the way to my neck, rolling my cheek into the pillow and punching it as I stare unseeingly in the direction of my window. A stream of streetlight filters inside. If you listen hard enough, you can hear the sounds of the city outside. I wonder where he is right now.

WORK & WRITING

I’m running on three hours of sleep, but I’m determined to make something good out of my day the next morning. I even smile at a few strangers as I get out of the cab, take the building elevators, and walk into Edge. I chitchat with a few colleagues as we get coffee, call my mother to say good morning, answer a few emails from my sources.

But there’s that tiny little buzz still in my body.

I still stare at green eyes whenever I stare at . . . anything, really.

I see a full mouth.

A full mouth, smiling in the way he used to smile at me.

I exhale slowly, do my best to push the thought of yesterday aside, and stare at my computer screen.

My very blank, very white computer screen.

Keyboards are clacking, reporters talking over their cubicle walls. Edge has been doing a little better after my love letter to Justin. The job cuts have stopped, two new journalists have been hired, and although there are only a dozen of us, we still somehow manage to make noise. Oh boy, do we make noise. We’re the specialists of making every event of the day seem more monumental than it is. It’s our job to hunt for news, after all. Create stories.

Write something¸ Selena.

Inhaling, I put my fingers on my keys and force myself to write one word. And one word becomes two and then, my fingers pause. I’m out of juice. Out of ideas. Empty.

I read what I wrote.

I squeeze my eyes and erase the rest.

On impulse, I reach for my bag, slung on the back of my chair, for the folded paper I carry inside. Taking it out, I unfold it and scan right to the bottom. To the very elaborate, male signature on it.

Justin KPL Justin.

The guy who sends my world into a tailspin. The sight of this signature on the page gives me all kinds of aches.

“Selena!” Sandy calls from across the room. Tucking the paper back into my bag, I peer out of my cubicle and see that she’s pointing into the glass wall separating Helen, my editor, from all of us.

“You’re up!” she calls.

I grab my notes that I also emailed her recently, then go and stand by Helen’s open door. She’s on the phone, signals for me to wait.

“Oh, absolutely! Dinner it is. I’ll bring my best game,” she assures, then she waves me in as she hangs up, beaming.

Well. She’s in a good mood today.

“Hey Helen,” I say. “Did you look at the story options I sent?”

“Yes, and the answer is no.” Her smile fades and she levels me a look. “You’re not writing that.” Sighing, she shuffles the papers on her desk. “Selena, nobody wants to know about any riot.” She says the word riot like one would say excrement. “You have a lively, energetic voice!” she goes on. “Use it to bring happiness, not focus on what’s wrong in the world. Tell us what’s right. What’s the right thing to wear when dating a hot man? Use what happened with that hot ex of yours to teach girls how to date properly.”

“I’M SINGLE, HELEN—hello? Nobody wants dating advice from someone who screwed her only chance at . . .” I trail off and rub my temples. “Helen, you know I’m having a little problem.”

“That you can’t write?”

I wince.

It hurts because for twenty-something years, writing was all I wanted to do.

“Go on.” Helen points at the door. “Write me something on how to dress for the first date.”

“Helen . . .” I take a few steps forward instead. “Helen, we discussed this before. Remember? How very much I want to write about things that are wrong in the world, in Chicago. I want to write about the underprivileged, the violence in the streets, and while you promised me opportunities, you have given me zero. In fact, lately, the Sharpest Edge column is all about being single and dating in the city. I have no boyfriend and no dating life. I’m not interested in the dating life, especially after what happened. I keep wondering if maybe you gave me a story that impassioned me again . . . I’d hit my stride. In fact, I’m sure I would,” I plead.

“We can’t always write about what we want, we must think of others, and your audience,” she reminded me. “The loyal audience who’s followed you throughout your career is interested in dating advice from you. You dated a very physical and renowned man; don’t throw all that life experience away. Other opportunities will come, Selena. We’re barely catching our first breath of fresh air. And I need you on more stable ground before we shift your direction again.”

“But weren’t we all about taking risks now in order to take us somewhere?”

“Nope. The owners don’t want more risks right now, while things are stabilizing. Now please. Can I get a break from this riot and safety talk for a few weeks? Can you do that for me?”

I force myself to nod, pursing my lips as I turn to leave. I try not to feel angry and frustrated, but when I come out and hear all the keyboards clacking and watch all my colleagues writing their stories, some with bored faces, some with happy or engrossed faces, I can’t help but ache to write something that gets to me so much, you could see it on my face too.

“Hey. You, there. With the golden hair, gorgeous body, but absolutely gloomy face,” Valentine calls from his cubicle as I walk by.

“Thanks,” I say.

He motions me forward to his computer and I end up standing behind him and bending over to peer at his screen.

And there’s Sin.

A video, which shows the power in even his smallest gestures. I’m melting when I hear him answer a question in some sort of interview about his opinion on the state of the oil prices. Stupid, stupid melting bones.

After we both watch for a moment, Valentine says, “Your ex.”

He’s not my ex, I think sadly, wishing that even for a blink I’d have had the courage to wear that title.

“He really knows how to fill up a room. He’s keynote speaker this weekend at McCormick Place. I’m thinking of asking Helen to let me go. Unless you want to?” Val peers at me over his shoulder.

I shake my head, frustrated. Then shrug. Then nod. “I’d love to, but I couldn’t.”

Valentine’s eyes cloud over at that; I’m sure it’s because he remembers all the hate mail that came through the servers after Victoria’s article. “You need to get out more. Want to come clubbing with me and my current this weekend?”

“I’m going to camp out this weekend. But proceed living dangerously for me. I’ll find a way to bail you out of jail.”

He laughs as I go back to my corner and settle down in my chair. I’m determined to work past this glitch. I want this to be an excellent dating piece, one that can help every girl like me meet and attract the guy she wants.

Inhaling, I pop open my browser and search the dating forums. I mean to find out the most major concerns girls have when going out on a first date, for starters, but before I know it, I’m opening another tab. Then a press conference link. Then I plug in my earphones and hike up the volume and stare at Justin on the video.

He’s behind a podium erected outside. People are standing in the back—every chair is occupied. Most especially with businessmen. Though I spot a few fawning fangirls nearby too.

His hair moves a little with the wind. His voice comes through the speaker, low and deep. Even though he’s talking through a computer and not talking directly to me, my skin prickles in response. Stupid, stupid skin.

When the camera zooms in, I look into his eyes as he connects with the audience, and feel an ache. The look in his eyes as he talks to all those strangers, so much more personal than the wariness in his eyes when he looked at me yesterday.

But I think of how his eyes would burn so hot when he peeled his shirt off my body that I’d be in cinders by the time I lay naked and waiting for him to touch me . . .

And the way his eyes would glimmer with teasing, boyish hope as he looked at me when he asked and asked, patiently and ruthlessly, for me to be his girlfriend.

I hate that I will never, ever be his “little one” again.

I play the email roulette all day . . . and there’s nothing from him.

I end up with two sentences for my dating article. Valentine and Sandy are hitting a nearby sandwich place and as we cross the building’s lobby, Valentine says, “Come with, Selena.”

“I think I’ll just . . .” I shake my head. “I’m going to try to get some work done at home.”

“Bullshit,” he says as we hit the sidewalk.

Sandy stops him. “Let her go home, Val.”

“I worry about this girl. She’s been kind of blue lately.”

“Don’t worry about me, I’m perfect,” I assure them as I flag a cab. “I’ll see you two tomorrow.”

FRIENDS

Valentine isn’t the only one “concerned.” So are my friends. And later that night, they insist on Girl Time.

Wynn was adamant we discuss this “job issue.” I assume Gina’s told her about the job offer on the table from Justin since nobody else knows about my other writing problem. Not even my friends. I just really dislike being the one knocked-out on the floor after life struck her out. I’m trying to get back to normal even though I don’t know what normal is anymore.

But at least one of the fixtures in my life is drinks with Wynn and Gina during the week. We sit at a high table near the windows. It’s comfortable.

Still, I’ve been refreshing my email like mad.

“I don’t know why you thought he’d want to talk to you about what happened so soon, it’s only been four weeks and what happened was kind of . . . well, it could take years,” Wynn says.

“Wow, Wynn,” I groan.

“Well, I’m being honest, Selena!”

I toss back the rest of my cocktail. My mind flashes to his hand, reaching for my leg under the table . . .

Twinkling green eyes, teasing me until I can’t bear it . . .

I love my friends; we’ve been together forever. They call my mom “Mom” and know everything about me, but now as Wynn asks me to relate the “job issue” and Gina tells her all about it, I keep draining my cocktail in silence, sadder than I’m letting on. My friends know everything about me, but at the same time, they don’t know it all.

They don’t know that as I sit here I remember all the ways he used to tease me about how I play it safe. He used to tease me to come out of my box, that he’d catch me. But would he catch me now?

“It doesn’t matter why he took four weeks,” I cut in when Wynn and Gina keep arguing over why he took so long to contact me. “I just want him to talk to me. I want to know if I hurt him so I can make it better. I want a chance to explain, apologize.”

“You doubt you hurt him?” Wynn asks, aghast. “Emmett told me there’s no way he’d give you the time of day right now if you weren’t under his skin.”

“Interesting,” Gina says. Then, looking at me, “You’re not the only one haunted by Justin, do you think that you’re haunting him too?”

“I don’t want us to be ghosts for each other. I want us to go back to the way we were when he . . . trusted me.”

Wynn whistles admiringly. “You can get that man in bed, maybe he’ll reluctantly love you, but you won’t get his trust if his life depended on it now.”

I wince at the thought of that. “True, trust is important to him; if I can’t prove to him I’m trustworthy I’m doomed to be one of his four-night girls.”

“Did you get the impression he’d give you another chance?” Wynn asks.

I stay quiet.

“Selena?”

“No, Wynn. He doesn’t want me anymore. But I need to apologize. I just . . .” I shake my head. “I just don’t know what to do.” I look at Wynn when my refill comes, frowning as I realize something. “So you and Emmett have been talking about it?”

“Um. Well, yes,” she says uncomfortably. “Everybody’s touched on it, you know? It was public.”

I press on, “Did Emmett have any advice for me?”

Wynn shrugs. “He doesn’t think a man like Justin would give you another chance. But then, he did offer you a job, so . . .”

“What does Emmett the chef know about a guy who literally owns Chicago?” Gina tells Wynn, rolling her eyes. “Plus Emmett’s a guy. He’s telling you this so that you, Wynn, don’t turn out to be a reporter and reveal that he wears pink undies and shit.”

“Gina.” Wynn scowls.

Gina grins, then turns to me. “Tahoe says—”

“Tahoe?” Wynn and I say in unified shock.

“Tahoe ROTH?” Wynn asks. “The oil tycoon and Justin’s bestie?”

“He’s not Justin’s only bestie, Callan Carmichael is too,” Gina specifies, then she cuts me an apologetic look. “I’m sorry, Rache. I’m not supposed to talk to you about this. But he’s concerned and so am I. And . . . well, from what Tahoe told me, Justin’s pretty messed up. Colder than usual. Really withdrawn.”

I sit here listening, aching.

“He loves Justin as much as I love you,” Gina says, and when Wynn opens her mouth to ask about the obvious elephant in the room—her plus Tahoe—Gina holds up a hand to stop her. “I don’t care for Tahoe, but he hasn’t enjoyed your breakup any more than I enjoy watching you mope. He called me to ask what was up, ’cause of course Justin’s not talking and he says he hasn’t seen Justin like this since his mother died.”

Knowing what I know—that his mother was the only one who probably genuinely cared for Justin while he was growing up, how he felt he’d failed her, how he’d failed himself in failing her, how he’s been trying to fill up an empty hole ever since—Gina’s words wreck me.

Wynn chides, “Stop talking to Tahoe, he’s just using this as an excuse to have sex with you.”

“I know, right?” Gina laughs.

“So? Are you going to let him?” Wynn asks, curious.

“No! He’s gross. I mean, he’s hot, but his attitude is gross.”

I stare at my cocktail and wonder if I’m already getting drunk to the point where I’m getting emotional too easily.

I’ve cried so much I don’t even have to try. The kind of crying where the tears just spill. With no warning. With no effort. They just come. I cry at the thought of never being with him again. And I cry because I know I hurt this beautiful, ambitious, intelligent, generous, caring man. I used to rest my cheek where I could hear his heart. Now it’s locked behind iron doors and ten-foot walls that I put there.

“Selena, men like Justin never commit. Not for the long term. But . . . he reached out to you. Offered you a job. If you reach back, maybe . . .” Gina trails off and sighs. “Hell, I don’t know. I don’t know how to help you, Rache.”

“Justin is very physical. You know what would do you and Justin a world of good? Tyrannosaurus sex: mean, violent, delicious, painful, and cathartic.” Wynn adds, “That will lead you then to spooning. Emmett and I are still so new though, we can’t even spoon. It’s more like sporking.”

“What the hell is that?” Gina asks us, frowning.

“When they’re hard when they spoon you!” Wynn rolls her eyes. Then she looks at me and giggles. “Did he do that to you too?” she asks me.

“He used to . . . um, pull my ear.” I tug one of my ears absently, helpless not to be drawn into my memories.

“Now that’s because you have really small, cute ears. Emmett likes kissing my nose.” Wynn crinkles hers for emphasis.

My heart has turned into an empty eggshell. It feels ready to crack as my fingers fly up to brush one corner of my mouth. “Justin used to give me these torturously slow ghost kisses . . .”

“Oh, you two!” Gina says in dismay. “You’re making me want to barf.”

Wynn laughs, but I fall quiet as the hurt and the regret and the heartache come back with a vengeance.

“Say, have you heard from Victoria?” Gina asks. “She lost her job after Justin canned her reveal article and all she does is tweet now and complain. She’s just some Tweleb now, but I bet she buys likes for her tweets, ’cause who’s even reading her?”

Then, alarmed by what she said, she adds, “BUT DON’T GO ON SOCIAL MEDIA. Nothing good can come out of that.”

I purse my lips and don’t tell them that I’ve already had a social-media fest recently and now I can’t stop.

“I don’t understand why he didn’t can my article too. Why just hers?”

“Obviously he didn’t care what they said about him.” Wynn shrugs. “Maybe that’s why he only canned Victoria’s, because she talked about you.”

I play email roulette again several times, refreshing and refreshing, checking to be sure I have all the signal bars lit up.

“Rache, we worry, you and those sad panda eyes,” Wynn says.

“I’m not a sad panda, come on.”

“The only times you don’t have the panda eyes is when you get the googly eyes from thinking of him.”

“That, or the screen-saver face when she thinks of him,” Wynn counters.

“Ha ha,” I say, rolling my eyes and pushing my cocktail away. “It’s just that I love him. I love him so much. It breaks me to think I hurt him. I’m so confused, I just don’t know what to do.”

They fall quiet, and I find myself back at M4.

Trapped again by forest-green eyes, cold as winter.

MESSAGE

I wake up in the middle of the night to hear the soft buzzing of my phone on my nightstand. Feeling for it in the dark, I tap it awake and my heart pumps when I see the message icon and then the name “Justin” on it.

Wings flap against the walls of my stomach.

Selena,

Thursday at 2:15 works for me, I trust we can wrap this up before my 2:30.

Oh god, he answered me himself.

A part of me doesn’t miss the time he’s answering. It came in at 3:43 a.m.

Was he out?

Turning on my lamp, I lean back in bed and check Tahoe’s Twitter because that man is a living newscast.

My heart stops in my chest. I feel like a horse just kicked me.

A new babe?

I groan and bury my face in my pillow. Holy god. He’s ruined me. He’s ruined my sleep. He’s ruined the word dibs. And elephants, and grapes, and men’s white dress shirts—and suits. He’s ruined me for other men. He’s ruined sex with anyone else—something I don’t even want to try—and he’s even ruined sex with myself. I can’t go back to sleep.

I reread the tweet—my stomach squeezing painfully—and I force myself to click the link once and for all. And then, I stare at a picture of a beautiful car with shiny wheels that looks like it could sprout wings and fly.

I smile to myself, exhaling in relief.

Tahoe goes on to say the “beauty” is a Pagani Huayra Gullwing. Pagani Huayra is an all-handmade, top-of-the-line luxury sports car, only six cars produced a year, worldwide. Worth close to $2 million, Justin’s has a black interior with red stitching, and a shiny red outer color. By the revealing way in which the doors, the hood, and the trunk open, the car is a real-life equivalent of a Transformer—designed to showcase what lays within it by cracking open.

I’m not a car buff, but even to my untrained eye, it’s exquisite.

Chosen with exquisite taste by a man who wants and appreciates the best.

I think of Justin and how he loves using his cars fast, and a pang of longing to be with him hits me in the chest. What I’d give to sit again in his passenger seat as he takes me on the ride of my life, driving those fast cars like a young billionaire with too much confidence and too much testosterone does. And me, just holding on to my heart while he steals it.

TRUTH

I’m early to Edge on Thursday. Using my First Date piece as a distraction, I avoid a group of gossiping coworkers as I go get coffee, then I settle down in my spot and get to work.
