you sighed, scrolling through your comments. it had been almost a month after your albums release, and some people still were bringing up the hug with charles. i mean, seriously it was just a hug. it wasn't like you guys had made out or anything.

both your label and ferrari were sponsored by celsius, and your management had met with one of ferraris pr heads. they had agreed to work together to promote the new album, and had picked charles because he was a fan of your music.

you clicked instantly on the first day of set, but it also helped that you spoke fluent french (you had an obsession with indila when you were younger and forced yourself to learn it) the lack of a language barrier, coupled with the fact that you guys had similar interests made it inevitable that you both would become friends.

after the album launch party, you were exhausted. you had woken up at 4am for promo shoots, and had been running around all day before singing your whole album (which was around an hour long) to the attendees. it was fun, and you wouldnt trade your career for the whole world, but man you were tired.

as you were heading out, you spotted charles and you both stopped to talk

"tu as bien fait là-dedans" he said, smiling as he pushed his hands into his pockets (you did good in there)

"merci! les heures de pratique m’ont aidé. je pense que je pourrais oublier les paroles si j’essayais" you smile as he laughed (thanks! the hours of practice helped. i dont think i could forget the lyrics if i tried)

"en pratiquant son art on devient artisan" (practice makes perfect)

you nod, turning as you hear your bandmate siobahn call for you

you look back to him, saying your goodbyes and quickly hugging him before running after her.

that was it. just a friendly hug. it's not like he liked you, and if he knew you liked him, you doubt he would still be friends with you.

PLEASE learn to like your art without the validation of getting reblogged.

I see a lot of "likes < reblogs" and the post in particular i'm responding to makes claims like "artists can't grow (???), they receive little to no feedback, not getting shared can discourage them and make them give up on what they love, some artists struggle to get over 100 notes, etc etc etc"

But like. what do you mean actually "grow" as an artist?? do you mean develop your technique or do you mean gain a bigger audience (these two are very different things). if youre motivated by people sharing your art, does that mean you're less inclined to make art if it's not gonna get popular? what about the weird art only YOU could create that's gonna resonate with like 5 people max?

like the issue here isn't that people aren't sharing your work enough, the issue here is that we've turned creation into a thing that can maybe get you some popularity from people you'll never meet. like. 100 notes?? 100 NOTES??? that's!!! a lot of real life human people who liked what you made!! imagine a room of like! 20! 30! 50! people reading/looking at the thing you made and enjoying it. but that just gets converted to a number that people now keep an eye on to see if their art Was Good this time

i'm begging you if you want feedback and you want to feel like your art is seen and you want to talk about it.... literally consider bringing it up in conversation. show it to your friends. show it to your family!! find other artists you can talk to beyond putting a fun little comment in an rb, get conversations/friendships going and say "hey check this out" or "hm the color feels weird on this, what do you think?" Sign up for a local art class / find a local artist collective!! see what happens!!!

anyway point being this reblog/note count/"leave a comment and fuck off forever" format on tumblr isn't a good substitute at all for real human connection and it's NOT the thing that's gonna help you Grow as an artist. as well, PLEASE make art that feels good in your soul to make and don't tie your self esteem as an artist into how much someone else enjoys your work (although this is a LOT harder to do bc it takes a lot more work unlearning. but i believe in you!!)

I know the fandom has dwindled a little but I really wanted to do something to show we care and that we can pull together for a good cause, so I've set up a fundraiser to try and raise some money for those affected by the conflict in Palestine.

Anera is a great charity which has been providing aid to Palestinians displaced by the conflict for over 50 years by distributing food, hygeine kits, medical aid, and more. You can read about all of their ongoing work on their website here.

overview: this is a roleplay blog set in a fictional museum where the figures (people) in famous paintings are animated and able to converse/interact/roleplay with the viewer. had the idea on a whim and thought it seemed cool and the kind of thing there might be a small audience for.

specifics:

“favors” are things you can talk about and give to my muses to charm them and warm them up to you. unlocks deeper interactions!

the muses will be from real paintings! (note: i am not rping as the artists lol)

tags will sort by muse name with their assigned emoji

they’re loosely based off whatever they’re depicting (for example, narcissus from jww’s painting will be very much based on the myth, but will still be my interpretation and therefore prone to discrepancies) but still mostly my ocs

Pylon Bios!

As we've added some new team members, please allow us to introduce ourselves!

First of all, we call ourselves Pylons. What the heck is a pylon? Well, outside of this blog, it’s an upright structure for holding up something, usually a cable or conduit. When this blog was started more than five years ago (whoa), the group chose the word Pylon to describe ourselves collectively, as a fun little nickname. Whee!

Addy: Howdy hey, I'm Addy! I dabble in many (many) things, but I'm most familiar with civil engineering and general logistics, along with some knowledge about vernacular architecture and neat ruins. Beyond that, I have some pretty eclectic knowledge from a lifetime of Wikipedia binges. I tend to lean towards fantasy, but do have an interest in sci-fi. 

My favorite thing in worldbuilding is taking an "unrealistic" premise (eg, a flat world) and finding a way to make an internal system that makes sense. No matter what you do, you want your system to run by consistent rules - beyond that, there's a lot of freedom.

Brainstormed: Hey there, call me RB or Brainstormed, and you can find me at @thunderin-brainstorm. Any pronouns will do. I'm a student, illustrator, and world traveler currently back in the US. Worldbuilding has been my hobby for quite a long time and I'd love to give you some tips and tricks that I've learned, or take your idea and turn it on its head to perhaps show you a new perspective. The many projects I've developed have been lifesavers for me, as they allowed me to harness my Maladaptive Daydreaming Disorder and use it as a positive tool for creativity. Aside from drawing and daydreaming, I spend a lot of time biking, hunting for cool rocks and bones, binge reading any scholarly article that catches my eye, and memorising completely useless random facts that I spout at any given moment in lieu of remembering actual important information.

Constablewrites: My name is Brittany, and I'm a California girl living in the Midwest. I use she/her pronouns. I've always loved stories with rich and detailed worlds, whether in movies, books, games, or something else entirely. I'm the kind of writer who will spend hours researching to confirm a minor detail. Naturally, I not only write SFF, but my recent projects have all required worldbuilding on more than one axis (like multiple types of magic, or time travel on top of historical) because I am apparently something of a masochist. I'm a walking TV Tropes index and a whiz at digging up random useful knowledge, both of which come in handy as a Pylon. Other random facts: I'm a trained actress and singer, I used to work at Disneyland on the Jungle Cruise (among other attractions), and a laptop held together with duct tape is responsible for my day job in tech support. Ebonwing: Hi, I’m Ebonwing. I’m a writer and worldbuilder, and sometimes a worldbuilding writer or a writing worldbuilder. I gravitate towards fantasy, though I’m not going to say no to the occasional stint in scifi, and as I’m also a giant language nerd, I enjoy making conlangs for my creations. I’ve been writing and worldbuilding for over twenty-five years now (jfc). I used to consider myself a fantasy writer, but I’ve been writing almost exclusively science fiction for the past six years. My first love was Star Wars, so I think it will always be a little of both. 

My worldbuilding philosophy is that internal consistency matters more than just about anything else, and it really all comes down to the story you want to tell with your world - whether it’s told to others or just yourself.

Synth: I’m @chameleonsynthesis on Tumblr, but that’s a mouthful, so just call me Synth. Any pronouns work. Born and raised in Canada, but living in Norway since late 2007. Been worldbuilding in one form or another for some thirty-odd years now, with a predominantly science-fantasy bent. I’m of the artsy creative type, with way too many projects on the go at any given time, and enjoy long walks through Wikipedia and getting caught in TV Tropes. The best thing is when I stumble across some strange factoid that can justify aspects of my many weird alien species. When I’m not working on my worldbuilding or my art or at band rehearsal I can often be found exploring the hiking trails in the mountains surrounding the city.

Tex: Hello, I’m Tex. Most of my hobbies are centered around fandom and worldbuilding for it, particularly on the science side, though I also like cooking and reading up on fiction and non-fiction whenever I have the time.

Utuabzu: Hi, I’m Utuabzu, I previously was part of ScriptMyth (RIP) where I tended to take the lead on Mesopotamia and Egypt related asks. I’m most of the way through a Bachelor of Linguistics, e parlo italiano und ein bisschen Deutsch. I have a deep and enduring interest in the history of the ancient world, particularly the ancient Near East, and I’m also a bit of a nerd for politics, which is helpful when it comes to worldbuilding. My random adhd-fueled 2am research binges have resulted in my knowing a lot of odd things. I enjoy traveling and experiencing other cultures, however as I am Australian this unfortunately requires flying, which I hate a great deal, and a fair bit of money, which I don't have. I expect to one day be crushed beneath a pile of my books. It is a demise I am ok with. If I must be referred to in the third person, he/him is fine, but don't stress about it. Other pronouns are more likely to cause confusion than offence. I have an unfortunate tendency towards really long sentences.

Wootzel: Hi, I’m Wootzel, or @wootzel-dragon! I use she/her pronouns. I'm a writer and artist of various flavors of fantasy, when I'm not being swallowed by life's obligations. My favorite thing about worldbuilding is making things as realistic or pseudo-realistic as possible, and finding a justification for everything. Sometimes, this is also my least favorite thing about myself, because it can make things very hard! But, it can also be really rewarding when I get things to work out in a way that I enjoy. 

My other hobbies include trying to rehabilitate my anxious dog, starting ambitious sewing projects on a whim, and wondering where all my time goes on a daily basis. I am still unsure about what I want to do with my life, except that it’ll always have writing in it somewhere.

How does one get into the local punk scene?

Like if I lived in Montréal for example how do I find the local scene

so sorry for the late-ish reply! this is a really good question, and i've been sitting on it for a while trying to figure out what all i want to say. necessary disclaimer is that despite my love for punk music i'm not myself a punk---i don't personally interact to a great extent with any kind of local music scene due to my autism. when i went to see bikini kill i had to take two days minus school to recover from the overstimulation. plus i'm under the legal drinking age & don't have a fake id (a lot of shows in my country are at alcoholic venues), so that's the perspective i'm coming at you from. i do not claim to be an expert, all of this is observation-based, mainly drawing from my experience looking into my local drag scene. anyone who has more of an experience than i do, feel free to rb with comments!

1. pay attention to flyers

there are a few places i frequent (some record stores, used bookstores, comic and game stores, and a couple coffee shops) that people tend to put flyers up in, so if you're looking for how to find the local scene paying attention to flyers is like my #1 suggestion. i see a ton around the city just hanging around on poles, too. if you're doing more of an underground show, there's a limited amount of ways to get the word out, and flyers are the most tried-and-true of those. (plus, once you go to your first venue, there will probably be flyers there for future shows, so it keeps on giving.)

2. the internet is your friend

i know montréal was a hypothetical, but just by googling "montreal punk scene" i'm already getting recommendations for venues and local bands. most of these aren't super contemporary, but i trust your research capabilities. if there's a band in your city that plays the kind of music you're aiming to get into (punk, in this case) and they're available on social media, follow them. you'll get updates on where they're playing next, as well as other bands who may be doing a show nearby, since most local artists support each other. same with venues! word-of-mouth is obviously ideal, but in a situation in which you don't know anyone, social media & message boards are the next best thing. i don't personally use bandsintown, but i know some people who do, so that's probably worth looking into as well.

3. go to shows

even if it's someone you don't know. especially if it's someone you don't know. if it's a bigger band, pay attention to openers, too. at least in my city punk shows are pretty cheap, so even if you don't end up liking the bands that play, you'll get an opportunity to meet people who can tell you more. this is some advice i've learned from being involved in local horror communities, which is a different vibe, but still: when you're offered an opportunity, take it! a splatterpunk writer recently offered to mentor me, and even though i don't primarily read splatter, you better believe i'm taking that shit, you know? a foot in the door goes a long way.

4. keep yourself safe

especially if you're underage. especially if you're visibly a member of a vulnerable group. this isn't punk-specific, this is life-specific. there are going to be assholes, and no amount of no-true-scotsmaning is going to make there not be assholes. there is no scene you will ever enter, music or otherwise, that is going to be 100% safe, so get acquainted with the specifics. in general, don't get swayed by posts on here that say punks are like inherently safer people. don't get loose with safety just because you're excited to be there. use common sense and protect yourself. people who are actually in the scene will have better specifics on this, listen to them.
