Man sometimes I make the mistake of reading the notes on a post (don’t do it) and like… this truly is the piss on the poor website.
No one has any reading comprehension and no one can clearly state what they mean. Everyone is so ready to argue at the drop of a hat. No one can make their point with clear language, and then seem to be incapable of rewording a statement if someone doesn’t understand them. Everyone immediately descends to insults upon disagreement, whether real or imaginary.
Debate classes should be mandatory in school is what I’m getting at.

Posting this here for receipts in case someone decides to steal this killer line of poetry I wrote for a spotify playlist description of all things (and which, together with the title, sounds like the heading of an essay that I would immediately want to read very badly):

Take your promises more seriously; try to always follow through on promises (and especially vows) that you make
Acknowledge your inner strength and resilience; be sure to appreciate and celebrate how far you've come; you've overcome before, and you overcome again
Take time to simply sit and observe your surroundings; listen to the sounds of birds, watch leaves fall from trees, notice the feeling of your feet on the ground, etc.
Practice different forms of divination (you don't only need tarot cards or runes for this, I've literally used Uno cards before; practice with a variety of forms until you find one that suits you)
Learn more about Norse runes; once comfortable, practice using them
Do things that benefit your future/make things easier on your future self (getting chores done ahead of time, setting money aside to save, looking into future careers/education, exercising your body and mind, etc.)
Engage in activities that stimulate your mind (reading, writing, solving puzzles, learning about something new, playing card games, etc.)
Learn to trust your own judgement and intuition; this takes time and comes with lots of practice which is ok
Practice learning when to speak and when to hold your tongue; sometimes it's better to simply listen
Practice finding your voice and speaking up for yourself; advocate for your needs
Explore things you find mysterious and intriguing; replace fear of the unknown with curiosity
Allow yourself to bear an air of mystery; try not to give away all the cards in your hand, so to speak
Go stargazing

This may fall upon deaf ears/ears unwilling to listen, but as we go into the last two episodes of TBB ever, the fandom needs to seriously clean up their attitude. I've been watching shit go down from the sidelines and trying not to get involved with the drama—people being so mean to one another and bullying one another into believing their headcanons (which are OPINIONS) as canon truth—and I've been disgusted with some people's behavior on here. I'm not sure what about TBB S3 in particular has brought the worst out in people, but it's so annoying and it sucks the fun out of being part of a fandom community.
So please (and this should be common sense):
For the love of God, BE KIND. If you see something harmless you disagree with (i.e., personal headcanons and think pieces, no matter how stupid and uninformed they may seem to you), move on. Don't react because it almost always ends in a nasty fight. Be mature. I've seen people bullying others into accepting their personal headcanons as canon (e.g., the "Tech is alive" and "Cody is on Tatooine" truthers), so please don't do that either. Differing headcanons can coexist in a fandom space because they're headcanons, another word for opinions. It's not the objective, concrete truth. Don't force them on other people if they don't agree with you.
If you see any racist, homophobic, sexist, and/or xenophobic comments about the characters (e.g., I've been seeing some fucking awful takes on Phee as of late), shut them down. Don't be a bigot.
Stop insulting people's intelligence as your primary counterargument to people's takes. Everyone's critical thinking skills (I've refrained from using the term "media analysis skills" because TikTok has seemed to make it lose its meaning, in my opinion) can be improved upon, my own included. It's a learning curve and we're all growing. Be self-aware in that regard. It's a logical fallacy—the ad hominem fallacy—to attack the arguer and not the argument, so it just looks dumb and makes you look bad.
Tag your spoilers. #tbb spoilers seems to be the most widely used, so I'd go that route.
If you have anything else to add to the list, please do! I want the unity and respect back in the fandom again, especially as we reach the bittersweet end of a beautiful show that has brought us all together as friends.

Hi there!
I had some questions (or statements I wanted to discuss I’m not sure what to call them) because I genuinely don’t know much about the subject. I’m on anon right now but I may comment on my own account later. Also don’t feel obligated to answer if this makes you uncomfortable.
So I was wondering if you could articulate any thoughts on proshipping in the kotlc fandom? I wanted to know your thoughts as from my understanding (and please correct me if I’m wrong) you see it pretty positively, and I wanted to better understand the ‘issue’ (idk what to call it)
Anyways I thought I should include what I already know.
So I understand that when people participate in proshipping it does not reflect their actual worldview.
I understand that it is fictional and really doesn’t affect real life.
I think my issue with proshipping has to do specifically with it happening in the kotlc fandom, and this has to do with Keeper of the Lost Cities being a kids series. My problem isn’t specifically with that, but mostly with the amount of “kids” participating in our fandom space (not actual kids like ten year olds but from my understanding we have an array of people from ages 13-16 who I would consider pretty young)
I just worry about when people make posts about, for example, one of the main cast and an adult in the series, because the Keeper casts ages may closely reflect the actual ages of people in the fandom, we’re creating an unsafe environment and these posts may affect what these ‘kids’ think is okay in real life or for themselves.
Anyways, I wanted to share my thoughts but I really mean it when I say I want to hear your thoughts, I don’t think I know enough about the ‘issue’, especially from the other perspective.
(Also, this isn’t really about your call out post about call out posts, I’ve just seen you liking some pro shipper stuff so I thought you might be interested in that sort of thing)
Hi! Thank you for being respectful about this. First, I avoid labels like "anti" or "proship," as they tend to create an unhelpful us vs. them dichotomy. Especially when, like these terms, they have strong associations and generate strong reactions upfront. It's not, in my opinion, conducive to productive conversation
I believe that all fiction, including disgusting, depraved, uncomfortable fiction, should be allowed to exist without restriction. Whether that's incestuous, predatory, or otherwise.
We don't have to read/watch it. We don't have to like it. Or be comfortable with it. But it needs to be allowed to exist.
It's existence does not harm us (the most that happens is we realize, we are uncomfortable, and then we stop watching/reading/etc. and move on), and there is no way to reliably moderate fiction. It will always be arbitrary, and those arbitrary distinctions will always be enforced by the privileged with power, who will use it to create their narrative and silence others.
The issue many people get stuck on, like you, is about children. Now I'm not saying this is what you're doing, but I'd like to bring up the Think Of The Children logical fallacy. It's a more recent one, so it's less known, and I'm just linking the wikipedia.
What it does is switch to emotional thinking, creating this idea of these helpless little things in danger we need to protect. It creates moral panic, because what are you gonna do? Argue against the children? You monster! It can shut things down.
And while children are young and still learning and need guidance, they're also people. They have their own thoughts, reactions, and choices. They use their childhood to practice that, which is aided by fiction. Fiction is a practice run for the real thing; it can be that learning and guidance
Children take what they see in fiction, where no real people are hurt or in these scary situations, and react. They form opinions, determine what they think is right or wrong, and they have more room for error. For example, it is safer for them to misjudge an actually malicious adult in a story, learn what the warning signs were, and be more cautious going forward with no real life consequence than to make that mistake for the first time with a real person.
This is just a general overview. To specifically address this fandom and its ships, I'm going to start with this: when you were 14, did you think it was okay to date an adult? Did you ever see incestuous art/fic and start wondering if it was okay to date your sister?
Yes, consistent, repeated exposure of concepts from influential places can normalize them. Is that a genuine risk here, or what is happening? Have you seen it happen before on a wide enough scale to be generally applicable? I, of course, cannot speak for everyone, but I already knew those weren't okay by the time I joined the fandom at 13. Yes, 13 is young, but 13 year olds are capable of complex thought and reasoning. Their minds aren't going to be changed that easily, and a lot of them would probably resent the implication (even if unintentional, this is nothing against you) they couldn't figure it out for themselves. At least I would've
And more specific to keeper again: we have maybe a handful of these "weird" and "gross" ships/aus/etc. Posted by a number of people I could likely count on one hand, incredibly infrequently. This is a genuine invitation to think it through: what is that going to do?
Is that from enough places with enough power to normalize these ideas? Who is seeing it? How impressionable are they? Have they already formed ideas of right and wrong? Will this change that?
The conclusion I've come to is: 13 years old is young in the grand scheme of things, but at 13 years old you are capable of complex thought. I don't think the limited number of these "objectionable" topics and posters, which/who can be easily avoided, is going to normalize or make people think it's okay irl. It didn't happen with us, did it?
And I think, to some extent, limiting exposure or controlling media access takes away agency and choice, and that young people being able to experience difficult concepts in fiction before seeing them in real life is beneficial. This often then leads to "but what if they read something really icky they hate!" to which I say, kids aren't going to do things they don't want to. They won't watch movies, shows, or read books about things they're uncomfortable with or disinterested in. I simply put the book down and read something else.
And if they're being forced to, that's a different problem, and the solution is not to make sure the media doesn't exist or they can't access it.
This has been long, broad, sometimes specific, and more all in the attempt to be thorough. What it boils down to is: I don't think what you're worried about is going to happen, or is even slightly likely enough to genuinely plan for or worry about (not that you're unreasonable for worrying, though), and I don't think there's any trustworthy course of action that would separate the "good" from the "bad" and reliably, fairly decide who can see it and when.
I hope this helps answer your questions :). I'm happy to talk about it more, though I don't want to devolve into arguing, so if that starts to happen (with you or anyone else), I will likely end the conversation.

the art of being a skeptical turtle
So this is a personal post more about my experience as a turtle. If you just want to get to the fun list of candies I totally buy into regardless of evidence, just skip down to where the asterisks are. (Consider this like a recipe attached to a blog post)
For those interested in the whole nerdery going on here, let me share that I had a lot of trouble coming to terms with bjyxszd. I wrote a whole series of posts about it to get my thoughts in order. Now I'm fully on the turtle train, but I find myself skeptical of some candies.
This is gonna get super-nerdy so hold on to your butts.
I'm a generally skeptical person. I come by it honestly. My parents literally subscribed to Skeptical Inquirer and Skeptics magazines. They (well, my dad mainly) were capital-S Skeptics. My family talked about logical fallacies, perceptual oddness, and the fallibility of memory over the dinner table.
Please don't back away. I know self-identified Skeptics are typically insufferable. I didn't know this as a kiddo, though, so the whole "thinking about things skeptically" became just my default way of processing stuff. Nowadays, I wouldn't call myself a Skeptic in the way that some in a particularly obnoxious subculture do. But I do tend to be a skeptical sort. I just don't...you know...think it makes me smarter/better/cooler than other folks.
(Actually, it makes me way less cool bc I can single-handedly ruin a fun party by expressing skepticism about something. Nobody likes a wet blanket. I know this)
My bestie in high school always called me Scully to his Mulder. He would believe anything he saw or read, whereas I didn't. Usually, I was right. Like when he totally thought that the Blair Witch Project was real found footage (It's not. Nobody thinks it is now, I know, but it was part of the promo at the time). On occasion, he was right. Like when he told me that some gray clouds we had overheard were from wildfires in Mexico. I scoffed bc, really, we weren't that close to Mexico. But he was right and I learned a valuable lesson on large-scale weather phenomenon. (He's still wrong about there being a picture of a light bulb in the pyramids though)
So, yeah, that's just how I process things. It's second-nature for me. But I reached a point with my generally skeptical outlook where I considered 2 things to see whether I really cared if people were buying into something I thought was false.
The stakes. If a person believes X, what does that lead to? If I don't believe Y, even though it's true, what does that lead to?
There's a whole bunch of political stuff that heightens the stakes. To take a ridiculous (and outdated one), when I was growing up, there was a common story that AIDS hopped from apes to humans because a gay man had sex with an ape and then had sex with other humans. Thus, the AIDS epidemic.
The stakes of other people buying into that homophobic nonsense were (and are) life and death. (If you believe that...uh...bye?) It's something that's worth me being the obnoxious Scully if I hear someone buying into it.
The stakes of, say, my high school bestie believing that The Blair Witch Project was real found footage was...nothing. It just made him want to see the movie more. Nobody was hurt. It didn't matter.
I argued with him at the time, but I probably wouldn't anymore.
The stakes for believing that bjyxszd, here in international fandom, are perhaps higher than the Blair Witch thing. But only barely. If somebody believes in a particular rumor/candy that I don't think is real, it affects literally nothing. We're both still turtles. We have a lot more in common than we do difference with regards to YiZhan. Likewise, the effect of me not believing a candy that may be true is nil. Gg and dd are not impacted in any way.
(I think things may be different for c-fans, but that's not at all a thing I'm qualified to delve into. I can only account for myself in my context)
2. The other thing I consider is the context. That is, how likely are we to know the actual truth?
Scientific claims have a method to test them (and claims that can't be tested are just...not something science addresses). Claims about current events can be researched using journalism methods or whatever. For that homophobic AIDS story, there's ways to prove that it's not true. For the Blair Witch thing...well, the actors went on the talk show circuit for promo so, you know, the real footage myth was quickly lifted.
Celebrities exist in a different context. Like most people, they have a private life that is not accessible to people on the outside. If they choose to open up about that life, then cool. But if they don't or can't do so (like is the case with YiZhan), then they'll try to keep their private life out of sight of fans.
It really hit home to me when I was doing the bts thing how little of dd and gg we saw in the Untamed bts. We see even less of them now. I'm at peace with the fact that I just will never know much about these guys (I wrote a whole post about it). But the fact that there's a big mass of the unknown means that the possibilities are endless. We don't know and we'll never know.
So I don't have any more authority on anything gg or dd related than anybody else does. So why would I attempt to question or dismiss candies that other people find compelling? At the end of the day, there is a truth, but it's not accessible to us, so anything we come up with is just extrapolation.
Which is fine. It's fun. I think there's real stuff going on. (If I didn't, I wouldn't be here) But it means there's no real point arguing about the specific candies.
(and to be clear, I don't see turtles doing this, really. so this is all just me reiterating my own approach to things bc I'm a person who processes thoughts through long tumblr posts apparently) (and it's not a reaction to any particular candy. this post has been in my drafts for ages)
I think I'm a hard sell on a lot of candies, and I'm definitely the fuddy-duddy who just squints and asks a bunch of obnoxious questions about things.
But I ask those questions of myself and don't feel the need to annoy other turtles with them because, honestly, we're all in this boat together. Some candies appeal to particular turtles more than others, and I think we all kinda have our personal preferences for which ones resonate with us. I'm not here to rain on anybody's parade, especially as we all have way more in common just bc we all believe in bjyxszd.
This is all a long-winded way to explain how I think about candies, honestly. Or more, how I assess candies that are new-to-me and figure out whether to buy into it or not. With anything involving bjyx, I also leave a lot of room for there just being an unknown and unknowable. Again, the stakes are low, and if I'm wrong about any particular candy (in either direction), then...oh well? It affects literally nothing.
************************************************************************************************************************************************
So here's the fun part! The list of candies that I fully admit don't have a whole lot going for them (by my stupidly exacting standards) but that I totally buy into just because I like them.
Basically all lip-readings, but especially this one
(if you don't want to click thru, this is the moment from the Nanjing farewell concert where dd and gg seem to flirt about photos while on-stage)
Okay, I know, rationally, that lip-readings are always gonna be shaky. I mean, I've seen Medieval Land Fun-Time World. If I'm honest with myself, I know that the lip-readings are basically fluffy candy.
But whatever. I choose to believe them. This moment, especially, I adore (and it does come with dd posting a bare-faced photo after!). I think their big grins while openly flirting with each other on stage just jazzes me enough to pretend.
It's all true. I totally believe it.
Related to this is:
2. Any and all CPN about dd and/or gg seeing turtle signs and smiling or otherwise reacting positively.
I've seen such CSI-worthy analysis of sight-lines to try to establish with precision where dd or gg is looking at the moment they smile/look happy. I have no idea how much any of it holds up, and it's not worth the bother to try to confirm any of it.
But whatever. I like it. I believe it. I'll probably believe it everytime it happens.
3. Advanced Bombology.
So there's some things that aren't in dispute here. We definitely know that gg suddenly cut an Olay commercial ad from a 2 day shoot to a 1 day shoot, and it's a reasonable assumption that he did so to be at the DDU anniversary episode with GG.
The rest is a little fuzzy. The video details dd being kinda grouchy in interviews before the DDU shoot, and it also shares an anon rumor from a person who claimed to overhear dd in a studio restroom arguing on the phone with gg. This rumor came out a year after the event.
The rest of the video is some interpretation of the boys' behavior/mood in the DDU anniversary ep.
So, like, I get that anon rumors a year on maybe aren't the most solid evidence for anything. But whatever, I buy it.
And the interpretation of the boys' mood seems true to me, especially the moment where the interviewer asks gg if they'd discussed his visit ahead of time. Gg def does a sweatdrop, panic pause, look at dd moment and waits for dd's lead to answer. I find a lot of mood interpretation from videos a bit much, but this feels real.
In fact, the whole thing just feels real. Maybe that's why it's easy for me to buy. It feels like a real argument a couple would have.
4. The 5/22 fight during CQL shooting.
I talked about this back when I was doing the bts in order.
In tl;dr, dd gives gg a bit of a brush-off response to something. gg responds by cold shouldering him and then doing some passive aggressive sniping about how dd doesn't want gg to care about him. dd gets upset, then he apologizes, then they go on to watch something on one of their phones.
The basis of this one is some gossip plus a video shot from a distance that requires reading lips. So we know that's already fuzzy, and I know I approached this with some skepticism in my earlier post. That was just to be rational about things so as to be honest with myself.
In truth, I buy it. I buy the argument. I buy the lip-reading. Again, it feels real.
5. GG's card to turtles
This is one of those frustrating ones I'm having trouble refinding. Darn.
The upshot, and I'm going from memory, is that there's a CPN about a card written to turtles ostensibly from gg. This came with some handwriting comparison to try to match the signature to gg's known signature.
This isn't something I'd place bets on, because...seriously, it's so fuzzy.
But in my heart, I believe it for no reason other than that I want to.
6. DD as gg's mystery driver
Okay, there's a couple such incidents. One quite recently. Where gg's driver is mysteriously masked such that you can't see their face.
And, truth, it could be literally anybody under there. But for me, it's dd. No need to give me painstaking comparisons of hands or whatever. I'm fully in on this one.
7. The bone necklace.
Ack, don't hate me for this one!
When I was doing my posts about stuff that had convinced me that gg and dd were still together, I stumbled with the bone necklace. To me, it's the main thing that convinces me, but if I'm honest, it really is kinda a leap of faith thing.
With the ox-head necklace, we have the fancam footage to back it up as being from gg. All we have for the bone necklace is the timing and the precedent of dd having already worn a necklace from gg. That's shaky, really.
In fact, I think I saw some other dd CP claiming the bone necklace as theirs (I saw them also claiming the Leica camera). I think they're wrong, but I don't have any solid proof to say so.
I think the most I can say is that there are much harder evidences that gg and dd are still together. But these typically involve massive privacy violations so I'm not eager to spread them around (I kinda hate that I stumble upon them, tbh). But in any case, it has me convinced, so if I already know gg and dd are a couple, then of course the bone necklace is related.
But on its own, the bone necklace is a leap.
Okay, that all said, since I (finally) had a photo of dd last time I posted, I'm dropping a random gg photo here. Not my favorite, cause pls don't make me choose, but one that hangs out my head throughout the days.

Hello everyone. I'm sure many of you seeing this post know what it's about, but for the ones that don't, yesterday I made a post saying, and I quote "Hey, this is your daily reminder that Riz is not canonically Aromantic! He is implied to be, and it's totally fine to hc that, but I've seen a lot of people stating he's aromantic like it's a fact, when that has never been confirmed! He is canonically Asexual tho, you can't take that away!" Since then, I have gotten called stupid, bigoted, and I have been told to kill myself. As anyone who read my bio knows, I am a seventeen year old high school boy who is just trying to get through AP exams.
I never wanted to start drama, and I've never had any bad intentions. I just wanted to clear up some common misinformation I saw. But it seems no matter how much I say that you can headcanon whatever you want and ask people to stop harassing people who have different interpretations of media than them, people only hear what they want to. I was asked what I expected to happen when I posted that, and honestly, what did I expect? Well, I didn't expect to be harassed by a community that I thought was full of love. We are queer DnD lovers, and I thought that would be the last group of people to hurt those who are different. I believed, perhaps naively, that my post wouldn't do much but encourage people to do their own research on what's canon.
Please do not take away the wrong message from this post. I am not asking for sympathy. I am asking for you, as a community, to do better. I don't hate anyone who has been a part of this mess. People are wonderful multidimensional beings with endless possibilities, and I choose to believe that everyone has good in them.
I am not perfect. I am sure there is a logical fallacy or two that I've had in my posts. I'm sure I've come across as too aggressive at some points. I'm sure that if any of these writings were submitted to the AP English exam I took today, I would've failed. I'm argumentive, extremely wordy, and not much to look at, but one thing I've always tried to be is kind.
I promise I tried to make sure everyone knew I was a safe space. Any opinions or headcanons you have are welcome and accepted as long as you respect other people. I have failed to make the community feel safe in my account, and for that, I ask your forgiveness.
Please do not search out or harass anyone who was related to this. If there's one thing I have learned from today, is that it can really mess with you. I love every one of you, even those who seem to believe I'm Satan himself. This was a learning experience for all of us, and I hope we can grow as people together.
And finally, to the person who told me to kill myself, I will not. I will live and I will be happy. I'll have a long, fulfilling life surrounded by my friends and family, and I will not let my opinions on a fictional goblin define me. Because I know I'm a good person and I hope one day you can say the same.
This will be my final post.

#thoughts on the brain
always used for posts that are just rambles, or off topic
#my voice
will always be attached to posts that feature my voice in an audible format, whether directly attached or on the audio hosting website that I typically use
#my art, #digital art
Art that I have created. Will usually include #digital art, as pretty much all art that I make is in Clip Studio Paint

#brainwashing
Explicit mention of some form of conditioning, classical or operant, usually paired with #hypnosis, #cw hypnosis, and #hypnok1nk.
#maestri sub tag
Woag me? A bottom? Surprising right? Wrong. This tag is for all of my posts (after a certain point where I started using the tag, I'm not going to find all my older subby posts and tag them) in which I am being a complete and utter subby little bottom. Please don't make fun of me too much.

Hello, and welcome to (what I hope will become) an educated space for debate!
First of all, asks and messages are open! Make sure whatever you're submitting has an actual logical fallacy in it- if it doesn't, or your message does, I will pick apart your argument.
Feel free to criticize any argument that contains a fallacy that I make, as well! I'm going to try to abide by all rules of debate, but I'm human and prone to error like everyone else.
So- some info about me. My name is Revan, I'm a rhetoric nerd, and this is just a gimmick blog for fun. I will be reblogging a lot of US politics, since there's a LOT of fallacies to be found in that sphere. I am fairly left-wing, however, I will make an attempt to not allow my personal politics to affect this blog. (if this happens, please correct me!)
I will be criticizing all wings and all sides of the aisle. If there's a fallacy to be found, I'll be pointing it out.
If you're rude or send an inflammatory message, I will either block and delete it, or, if it contains an excess of fallacies, I will post it for all of Tumblr to bear witness to me picking apart your argument, so... be warned.
Anyway, let's keep this environment fun and positive- after all, we're all learning, here!
Some ground rules:
If you're trying to submit something, make sure it actually DOES have a fallacy in it. If it's just a post you don't agree with or dislike, it's not a fallacy.
All screenshots must have usernames/contact names/phone numbers/etc cropped or blacked out. We are not encouraging cyberbullying or smear campaigns here.
Anon is open- but y'all are on thin ice. I will close it if things get nasty.
No getting in flame wars on my posts. All parties will be blocked. This is supposed to be an educated, compassionate, open-minded space. We are all learning.
I do consider appealing to religion/the Bible/what have you to be a fallacy ONLY if it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Bringing up religion in a conversation about economics? Fallacy. Bringing it up in a theological debate? Totally valid.

how do you avoid right wingers (& centrists that use slurs) when making political posts? i want to be able to help inform other people but the nastiness i’ve received makes me want to give up. i understand why some people avoid politics entirely
Hello there, @land-shark-is-here
Honestly, I don’t avoid them. What I mean is, you can’t avoid them.
They drop into my asks just to sling the n-word at me and then they just keep strolling by like nothing happened
They’re literally out there by the tens of thousands, and they’re loud
After a while I’ve learned that instead of internalizing their vitriol or letting them get me down, the best I can really do is delete their comments and then block them (in that order - it matters). Most of these trolls are looking to ride the coattails of your posts to gain the visibility that they cannot get on their own — unless you can crush their foolishness with a particularly witty or devastatingly insightful comeback, deny them that visibility. Don’t, as they say, feed the trolls
(please see also: x, y, and z)
And even when comments and reblogs by other trolls might make it *appear* that dozens and dozens of other bloggers are expressing agreement with a troll, that is almost always an illusion. Online trolls travel in packs. Seriously. If you visit a comment troll’s blog, you will probably see the following things: their blog is almost exclusively nothing but them shitting on someone else’s posts, or they are in constant communication with other comment trolls who do the same thing, or they’re just bored conservative porn bloggers. Anyway, when a comment troll sees one of their ilk latch onto a post, they dog pile it. I have witnessed this repeatedly with pro-gun bloggers and anti-choice bloggers. I’ve seen them force some bloggers to delete some really great posts over the years, because the person felt overwhelmed and outnumbered due to being ganged up on
And learn to spot sea lions - they’re the disingenuous trolls who always seem to be interested in genuine discourse, but no matter how many times you answer their questions, somehow it’s never quite enough—that’s because their true goal is to keep peppering you with “simple” questions that require a ton of thought on your part. They could care less about your answers. Their mission is to wear you out. Death by a thousand cuts, so to speak. Their job is to remain unconvinced, no matter how much sense your replies might make. Please understand: they want you to get discouraged and give up. Because as you and others like you quit, their version of reality becomes more accepted, and they gain control of the narrative, and they eventually become the “common sense” gatekeepers, and ultimately their way of thinking will shift the Overton window ever rightwards. If we let that happen
Look, on the other hand it’s always a good idea to open ourselves to the possibility that we might be wrong. There is nothing wrong with honest and respectful debate, if that’s how you want to spend your time. No one is right all of the time. No one is wrong all of the time. We’re human. So sometimes we do need to hear what those who disagree with us are thinking. (Within reason, ofc. I’m not talking about Nazis or people who think Black people and/or LGBTQ, etc people are second class and less than human - fuck those so called “viewpoints”) If nothing else, we learn how to retort their disingenuous arguments—but that has its limits. You are not a doormat for trolls to amuse themselves
But if you dO decide to engage the trolls, it’s never a bad idea to invest in learning logical fallacies and how to debate, so that you have the skills to thoroughly deconstruct a troll’s specious arguments (and honestly I need to take my own advice here)
So unless you genuinely want to enlighten an audience with your response to a troll, my advice is to go heavy on blocking. It may take a while, but just like tending a garden, eventually you will see your online space become more de-trolled. It’s self care. It’s not living in a bubble or being a snowflake. If you spend a significant portion of your time online, please remember that you deserve some peace of mind, even in online spaces
I hope you found this helpful
Good luck

I’m just gonna say it, but I think current kids younger than 15 are almost incapable of dissecting anything with critical nuance. Because there is a HUGE difference to the 15 year olds BEFORE lockdown, and after. I’ve seen Gen Z teenagers on tiktok and tumblr have the most empathic, kind, amazingly supportive and intelligent opinions in 2020 who have now grown up and are in college absolutely killing it - they’ve gone into lockdown already having developed their emotional skills and come out of it with a lot more depth and growth. But YOU guys were 12 and younger when the pandemic started, you spent YEARS of it online without interacting with a wide variety of people and learning to read between the lines as you HAVE to in order to navigate the real world and peoples speech patterns and behaviours. You grew up alone in your house behind your screen, without being able to bond with classmates or friends, and most importantly, without anyone to temper your thoughts, or have rational and calm discussions in person. Half the teens I see on tiktok and tumblr NOW are so full of hate, so quick to put down and dismiss peoples choices, so quick to troll and voice really bizarrely conservative and ignorant opinions as if they’re entitled to do so, and so anti-empowerment and anti-ENJOYMENT in general. And I’m gonna be real with you and say it’s because of lockdown. It’s not entirely your fault bc y’all are still kids.
Your literature programs would have been cut, you’re just reading for the assignment, you’re not engaging in seminars and debates and classroom exercises the way you would in class, and all the while you’re just being increasingly exposed to sensationalist media that boils down complex and nuanced topics to a black and white, yes or no, 7 second hook. And it’s made you incapable of approaching anything with logic and empathy, because you just didn’t HAVE that the way everyone else did during their formative middle school puberty years. So now the moment you have a singular negative opinion of something, it’s all encompassing. There is no give, no flex, everyone is guilty until innocent. And why wouldn’t you think that? That’s what people have been doing online during the whole pandemic, cancelling people for 1 comment taken out of context, or being so quick to say something negative first instead of positive. You got comfortable behind your screen instead of being taught the consequences of saying shit things, and now when it comes to exploring all angles to a situation like you should be taught how to the way EVERYONE is, you take it at the most basic, surface, face value.
And when it now comes to fandom spaces where you have older fans in the same space as younger fans, there’s so many more instances where something will get an inordinate and undeserved amount of hate or hype based on a very surface level of understanding. Inherently, this isn’t a good or bad thing, it’s just a thing. What IS bad is when people come under someone’s obviously thought out and nuanced opinion to be like “you’re wrong for liking this bc (insert a completely unrelated logical fallacy of a reason)”. “If you like this book that happens to be a straight romance, you’re homophobic” IT DOESNT WORK THAT WAY AND IM SICK AND TIRED OF ARGUING WITH PEOPLE WHO NEVER BOTHERED TO DEVELOP READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS EVEN AFTER FINDING OUT THEY DON’T HAVE ANY.
Please for the love of GOD I am begging you guys to learn how to analyze literature. Like in an enforced curriculum at a high school level way. Please. YOU will be better off for it, and in turn the rest of us. This isn’t the new wave of boomer-esque hate against the kids. Gen Z is the goddamn future!!! This is a very specific, very VALID gripe, about a very small subset of kids who spent their formative years chronically online. And please! I am BEGGING teachers to recognize this and help their kids out to fix this. There is already a lot of hate in this world and we don’t need a new wave of people spewing hate under the guise of pseudointellectual liberalism because they don’t know how to see any deeper. This is one of the main reasons puritanism in the younger generation is exponentially on the rise! We’ve taken away the ability for them to form a fully informed opinion, and it’s now a self serving spiral. BREAK OUT OF IT, I AM PLEADING.

There is a big difference between censorship and moderation. Plus maybe look up the 'slippery slope' fallacy
Moderation: The act of moderating, or of imposing due restraint.
Censorship, the changing or the suppression or prohibition of speech or writing that is deemed subversive of the common good. It occurs in all manifestations of authority to some degree, but in modern times it has been of special importance in its relation to government and the rule of law.
I'm assuming you're responding to the previous post regarding the people advocating for Ao3 to ban an entire subgenre of fanfiction. I'm sorry but the definition of censorship is closer to what those advocates want than the definition of moderation. Because Ao3 does have moderation. If you read the ToS you can learn and understand what their moderation standards are. Which are based on US laws, and are rather simple. If it's legal in the US, it's allowed on Ao3. Which allows for a lot of things not allowed elsewhere and means that moderators personal biases can't seep though to remove stuff that they personally don't like.

Do you know what a psychiatrist is? Go to one! What the hell is wrong with people like you?! Do you know those dumb and dumber conspiracy theorists? You’re just like them, even worse because they actually go after important shit.////
What kills me is you all think using logical reasoning and fallacy is a conspiracy theory. Do you actually know what a conspiracy theory is? Cause this ain’t it. What we discuss as PR ain’t it. We base things off of what we see and what they show. So no, it isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s logical.
Please stop going to blogs and accusing them of things or sending hate. You have your opinion, they have theirs, and guess what. They aren’t the ones going around sending hate to people who don’t believe the same as them.
Exactly! Thank you! ❤
We are all trying to remain reasonable here and have a healthy view of this whole thing. It's understandable if people don't agree with us, and I always say that everybody can write down their opinion here, even if they disagree with me or even if they believe that all of this is real. Still, of course, I always ask people to do it in a respectful way. They won't change my mind, but I'm always open to learning other people's perspectives and opinions. I just don't understand why people are like this. That anon didn't even make a single point; they just wanted to insult me. 🤦‍♀️

hi i'm new to tumblr and the anime community, so i'm shy and asking this on anon >.< is it OK if i ask for a csm male matchup? if no, then that's fine!
i'm 18 and my pronouns are she/her. i like food (making & eating it,) reading, writing, painting, and playing piano/violin/ukulele. i'm a scorpio. in general, i'm pretty quiet - i don't talk much in groups, but around those i'm close with, i openly tease and joke a lot. people have told me i come off a bit strongly when defending my opinions & i'm told that some of my negative traits are being too confrontational, snappy, and judgmental. positively, i'm open minded and run things over by logic first to make sure there are never any fallacies in what i'm doing/saying. i really detest physical touch unless it's with those i like, and i'm very picky about things like where my belongings are/other people never touching my things without permission. i think that's it - please tell me if i made any errors in my req :)
HI ANON! Of course it’s okay to ask!🤍
Tumblr media
I mean, the moment I learned you don’t like others touching your things / somewhat introverted. Aki is literally a perfect match! Your home would always be perfectly organized, you both would have your things kept separate, but liked for them to be next to each other! His favorite moments would be cooking with you, then sitting on the balcony in silence, just enjoying the sounds of the wind.

Ok, he’s not wrong about rap in general being anti music, or being degrading. I grew up when rap was young yet, n purposely avoid it in English, not because of culture involved, but because I find it deeply offensive. I know a lot of folks from many backgrounds who listen to it. In other languages, it can be funny. I do like other forms of music traditionally connect to black cultures, such as a reggae, soca, jazz, Motown, soul, funk, and the like. These are not so negative in nature. I AM willing to give a chance to a rap song that does not have offensive lyrics.
To be fair on both sides, rap has a conflicting reputation. To some, it’s positive. To many of us, it’s negative. It could be said that both sides of the argument may be biased to some degree.
Anyhoo, that aside, the problem I have is this -
Whilst he does make some good points, he defends Trump. This sets him up for failure. This leads most of his arguments to become logical fallacies -
He has no actual, unbiased proof to back up what he says. This also leads me to believe he’s taken trump’s comments out of context as well. This is especially damaging because Trump ALREADY does this, leaving twisted information to be twice regurgitated in a metaphorical sense. This article reminds me of that kid in a writing class who makes some good points, but they r marked opinion, because they fail to back it up, then cowardly cover their tracks with utter bollocks, because they couldn’t be arsed enough to make an effort with proper information, so they sound as though they’re talking out their bum. He’s the proverbial ‘this bloke I look up to said this, so it’s gotta be true instead of giving actual reasons WHY it might be true’ type. This is very common of evangelicals, and of Trumps followers and defenders. These can be seperate groups, but they rely solely on bias and logical fallacies, pandering to those willing to take anything said at face value if it pleases them, rather than instead of giving actual facts to back up what they are saying. They also don’t allow debate or open minds to challenge what they say. His article also comes off as a stereotype- as if rap is the ONLY music attributed to black folks, and therefore is the standard for generalisation. This is damaging.
Instead, first understand that not all music related to black cultures are inherently negative. They come from struggle, from pain, but they can be just as positive as others, just as any other music. Then, challenge yourself to find rap lyrics, videos, and such that truly AREN’T offensive, negative, or damaging - and don’t have sex, violence n the like. Look for things that are positive and counter the stereotypes.
Not all stereotypes are completely wrong, they have some basis in facts sometimes. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t challenge how we feel about them. This doesn’t mean we necessarily HAVE to change our minds about the stuff that truly is bad. However, it’s healthy and positive to open our minds, and look for stuff that although may be out of our comfort zones a bit, could allow us to see that there are more than one side to the perception we have. There may be more to learn and understand here.
For me, this is one rap song that does swear (which I dont mind), but it also sends a message to grow up. There are certain behaviours that you don’t need to engage in.
Here’s the dirty version -
youtube
And the censored version -
youtube
We can celebrate black cultures, but we can learn to seperate negative behaviour from good, and realise that these behaviours aren’t necessarily attached to any one culture. They are a result, and a learned response. They can be changed for the better, but we on the outside are not helping to foster that. We are guilty of feeding into it from the outside, just as it is from within. Every culture has stereotypes. We don’t have to be blind to and give into negative stereotypes if we make an effort to collectively be better, and to teach others to learn about and appreciate instead of exploit and manipulate each other. It can lead to the argument of cultural appropriation, which often results from attention seeking behaviours. Cultural appropriation itself is misused and grossly misunderstood. It is often manipulated when used for a benefit.
We need to remember that this is related to assimilation, which sounds nice at the core, until one really understands the full implications of it -
But is misleading. Appreciation is a better approach -
If your goal is to learn, listen, understand, and honor a culture without benefit to yourself, you are most likely showing appreciation. It is a good idea to learn about and honor other cultures. (But also respect your own, and create a healthy exchange)
I searched up his commentary on rap, simply I thought ‘well, maybe he actually had some good insight’. Sadly, despite the Victorian/edwardusn getup giving the impression of a villain to some, or to others, an eccentric professor - he sounds like an utter cock up. You loose all credibility when u blindly defend the blathering eejit convicted criminal. This also does not help anyone.

I get that YouTube drama is some pretty weak shit to get interested in. I get that most of YouTube contains misinformation, often the people you hear from are not qualified to really promulgate the ideas that they are waving around like giant flags, that a lot of YouTube is just people disagreeing with each other and making responses to responses to responses to responses. Logical fallacies fly back and forth like cannonballs. One side accepts facts the other one doesn't.
But it's a hell of a gift that if I have a passing interest in something vaguely controversial among kooky people, like astronomy is to the flat Earthers, or like actual history is to the biblical literalists, or like evolutionary biology is to the young Earth creationists, I can get to know specific YouTubers with actual qualifications and come to trust them and learn an enormous amount a specific field of study while listening to the glorious evisceration of these grifting cretinous assholes. It is an absolute pleasure beyond belief to hear somebody like Paulogia casually and politely and calmly go through a Ken Ham video point by point pointing out every lie, every intentional misstatement, while a guest, represented by a cartoon on his show, often sporting credibility in the form of an advanced degree from an accredited University, casually teaches me real information about how the world actually works.
Science presenters on television used to work so hard. They had budgets far beyond what a guy in his basement in Canada has access to. And they produced great things, like Carl Sagan's Cosmos show or Connections, starring James Burke. Those things are marvelous and instructive pieces of art that give you a casual familiarity with interesting quirks of history or facts that you can read entire books about later but at the very least keep you informed as to what the current human understanding is as regards some specific field of study.
But Gutsick Gibbon keeps me entertained. It's not even a fair contest. It's like watching the Tampa Bay buccaneers play a game of American football against my 10-year-old nephew's baseball team. It's not even close. She's a PhD student arguing with a breatharian. But the drama is so fun. It's so satisfying to hear these posturing nitwits actively making stuff up and misinterpreting stuff they heard on one of these preposterous History Channel shows about aliens and the pyramids, carefully edited together with measured responses that teach me more about anatomy and human history than I learned watching a decade's worth of documentaries in my twenties.
Sci Man Dan. Gutsick Gibbon. Paulogia. HealthyGamerGG. Dan McClellan. The Green brothers, Hank and John. Stand-Up maths. The Millennial Gardner. Emma Thorne. Lindsay Nikole. Dami Lee. Sabine Hossenfelder. EV Nautilus. Yoga with Adriene, Oh God how could I forget someone who makes me feel 5 years younger if I pay enough attention to her. Rocky Kanaka ... I learned a little bit about dog psychology from my sister, who used to train dogs, and a little bit about it from my friend who used to rescue and foster dogs, but I learned a lot from Rocky Kanaka, and his videos are so positive and upbeat sometimes they make me cry a little bit. In a good way, I mean. There's so much stuff to learn. You have to fact check things, but all of these people are just giving me all of this knowledge for free. That's a brilliant thing and I treasure it. Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't! Learn new things and have a brilliant time at the same time! And I can listen while I'm driving around and doing nothing important anyway! I just can't watch like that obviously. But still! It's great! Anton Petrov! Sauti Reese! Good god, I've learned things from Sir Sic I'd never thought about before, and that guy is, well, a dumb. Edit: dear God, how could I forget about Angela Collier? And I'm sure there are other people I'm forgetting about.
I'm so pleased to be here you guys. Going to go cut the grass with my noise suppression earbuds. I love you all
