Eurobeat continues to be a go-to style for Morning Musume during this time. But whereas the dance-pop genre served as the rhythmic backbone of a single like “Ambitious! Yashintekide Iijan” at best, the group takes it wholesale in “Onna Ni Sachiare.” The energetic punch from the production’s laser synths and the muscular drums even trickle into the choreography with the dance utilizing fist pumps as its calling card.

The stocky, arena-house build of Eurobeat also provides a mighty exterior for Morning Musume, who attempt their best to show they’re above being ruled by feelings. “Onna Ni Sachiare” stays consistent to the group’s efforts to portray a more adult image, this time through stoicism in reaction to bad news along with carrying history finding love in the club. “I won’t show my tears/ I won’t show them to anyone,” the idols insist as they ride the demanding dance beat.

Despite trying their best to keep their cool, Morning Musume can’t help but succumb to their emotions. In reality, they are bitter in the inside as they witness their longtime crush fall for another woman, and that propulsive momentum of the high-octane beat plays key to fully deliver that frustration. “Why did you get taken by her, so stupid/ so stupid, so stupid, so stupid,” the idols sing in the pre-chorus, letting each part of the latter series of phrases hit in tandem with the synths punctuating the beat like a fist pounding in anger.

The idols are mad at their crush for betraying them, but “Onna Ni Sachiare” meditates on the embarrassment of looking pathetic from rejection as much as the frustration of a story not unfolding the way it ought to go. Morning Musume sigh and admit their loss in the chorus, brushing off their moment of defeat as another day in the life of a woman who’s just trying her best. The ease at which they bounce back is partly a lie: “One day, happiness will come to me/ or else it’s just unfair,” they tell themselves. It’s just what it takes to appear as though they’re above the influence of love and emotion.

Hey there everyone, this time we’ll be doing a very recent album from comiket 95, it’s called “Onyx Veil” and performed by Hatsuki Yura. As you may discern from the artwork, the type of music is right up my alley, which really does make me wonder if they walk up to the artists like “hey gimme that... you know... THAT look, you know the one” and the artist goes like “oh right... you mean like, a lone girl that looks mysterious in extravagant clothing, maybe throw in a coffin or a skull” and the bands go “yeah, that exactly!”. I mean really, Genkaku Aria, Resonecia, Hatsuki Yura, Seraph, Ariabl’eyes, Lostfairy... all their covers look the damn same, if you removed the names and told me they’re all from the same band I’d have no option but to believe you (in reality, they’re all not even from the same artist!). But hey I’m not even complaining, I love these covers, and it makes it very easy to discern the type of music so they’re actually quite helpful.

Anyway, on to the song, it’s about a girl who’s locked up in a secluded place in the forest and she yearns to go out so much that she’ll even beg a demon and... and stop giving me that look, yes I know we’ve done this story before, but it’s a good song, the vocals are great, who are we to judge if the story is a bit overdone? I should also mention that the album Onyx Veil has a sister album called Snow Veil, it’s fair to assume the stories are connected (mayhaps the person laughing in the mirror might be in the other album?). Yura does this from time to time, like with the Black Princess/White Princess albums. I think it’s a pretty cool idea, and yes I complain about this business practice when pokemon and fire emblem do it but these are musical albums at a much lower price point so it’s ok when she does it. Heck, imagine if sound horizon did two interconnected albums, people would go nuts and hail it as the greatest most complex thing ever, Revo get on this shit. A small disclaimer, there’s someone out there who’ s pretty much THE authority when it comes to translating hatsuki yura, and you can check out her blog in this link. However, the album seems doable enough that I can do it for fun and she hasn’t updated her blog yet so I might as well give it a shot in the meantime (definitely won’t be touching snow veil as I can’t find kanji lyrics for it). With time she’ll surely update because she’s obviously quite dedicated and takes her hobby very seriously, do check her out and Yura’s other albums, they’re great!

 Pharaoh no Haka〜Hebi Ou・Sneferu〜

Today was a stage play Day〜!

  I’m enjoying our Egyptian world view、and our pharaoh world view♡

 Of course I have lots of stories about Pharaoh no Haka but、since there are still performances left I’ll talk about it little by little…♡

  Today、I want to properly talk about the 12ki event〜。I promised it in yesterday’s blog right〜。

   The costumes were fairy-tale-like♡

Very 12ki〜♡!

 I don’t have this kind of dress in my personal clothing so it was super fresh for me!

  In the talk corner、we introduced photos with memories for 12ki、and Ogata Haruna-chan’s rare events・episodes〜!

 When we dug them out、it just kept getting funnier and funnier笑笑

 The talk was based on a questionnaire 12ki had filled out beforehand but、just filling out that questionnaire was fun too!笑笑

  And 12ki did a mini game with vouchers for yakiniku! The result was…success! So 12ki have gotta go for yakiniku! It’s good that everyone likes yakiniku!笑笑

  Continuing on is the live corner set list。

 1. Seishun Collection

We sang it at the autumn tour 2 years ago。 It’s a song the 4 of us practiced a lot。I distinctly remember it being a song where I was suーper aware of the high point of the 16 beat! To my delight、this time especially、we were able to sing the version where the high point of the song drops at the start♡ Since the high point of the song drops at the start it feels sentimental…♡

 2. Please! Jiyuu no Tobira

In last year’s spring tour、it was a song we sang as our first time having kouhai。Even though we have kouhai at this time it’s hard bringing together the 4 from 12ki、so I strongーly felt I have to polish ｢my own｣ individual points。Yesterday、I felt like you could you see the individualities of Nonaka Miki more strongly than before、and colours of each and every 12ki came out right!

 3. Zero kara Hajimaru Seishun

It’s a song that just us 4 from 12ki were able to sing at Budoukan。The piano is super cute…♡ In this song there are many points where I meet eyes with my fellow members、and curiously I recall memories from when we met eyes from when we joined until now。

 4. Sayonara no Kawari ni

A song I wanted to sing! No matter what I want to sing this song I want to sing it I’ve been saying this for a long time so when we put together the set list I got to include this song。Doesn’t the tune really suit 12ki selfishly…I’ve been thinking this sort of thing〜! It’s a bit heartrending but the feeling of needing to continue forward with a smiling face reverberated in my heart。Being able to sing this song、was one of my dreams♡

 5. Ima Koko Kara

A song included on 12ki’s debut single。Of course for us it’s a song for us from here on[ima koko kara]!! Ogata Haruna-chan will graduate really soon but、I think that too will be the start of a new chapter! And so ima koko kara! This is a song all of 12ki love!

 There were really a lot of songs that have memories for 12ki…♡ Not just these 5 songs、there’s lots of others too!

   No matter what happens、

Even if we’re separated〜we are the same generation!

 It was fun!
