I only have one DNI, repost accounts DNI. It’s so hard to get reblogs and then a repost post pops and it gets lots of interactions. EXPLAIN THAT TO ME.

sorry, i don’t usually make these type of posts but i just really need to say this.
i’m very tired of the way people treat gifmakers.
without gifmakers you wouldn’t be able to reblog gifsets of your favourite characters. maybe discover something new. maybe make friends with the people reblogging those gifsets.
so please. i beg you. do not repost other people's gifs.
reposting is not the same as reblogging. reblogging is what this website was made for.
if you want to add an already existing gif to your post, just use the tumblr gif function when making a new post. you can search for the gif that you like and tumblr will automatically link it to the original post.
Tumblr media
you could also try to make your own.
ask your favourite gifmaker for tips. more often than not they would love to help, link you tutorials, maybe even exchange messages and talk about the gifmaking process.
don’t want to make your own?
that’s fine. use the tumblr gif function.
do not repost them to other sites. if you do, ask for permission first. give them credit. show them your appreciation. do not repost.
i don’t think many people here understand the effort that goes into making gifs.
you need to get a high quality video file of the thing you want to gif. sometimes that means getting dvds from sites like ebay. it can be tricky and expensive.
you need to use a professional photography software. that could also cost money.
you also need some experience with the software. which a lot of people don’t have. some gifmakers spend a lot of their time learning.
it takes time, money and knowledge to make gifs look good just so you can share them and hope people will like them.
but most of the time people won’t even bother leaving notes on your post.
they’ll take the time to save your work on their phone and repost it to other websites with no credit.
they will get defensive if you patiently ask for credit.
they'll leave hate in the tags.
and they still expect gifmakers to keep feeding them content.
i just. don't get it. sorry.

On Gifmaking:
So season 2's coming soon, and I wanna reflect on making gifs ever since I came back to Tumblr. I can't believe it's been 2 years of making gifs for this show!!!!! Look at how large my folder is lmao
Tumblr media
And those are JUST gifs lol
Anyways, over time, my style has changed, especially how I color edit Arcane gifs. I kind of strayed away from a stylized filter color into just something that looks a lot more "natural" and works with the original scene.
Initially, I thought I'd save time, but I ended up not using my old arcane preset PSDs and resulted to coloring almost every scene manually. So in the end, it takes even longer to make them HAHAHA. It takes around an hour and a half for me to make a 10 gif set, basically. It also helps that I have a photography background, so coloring/editing is a lot simpler for me.
Here's a lil before and after of a dark scene (hiiiii viiiiiii <3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arcane is a REALLY dark show, but it goes for most of TV shows. Many of them are darker and harder to bring up the lights to make stuff look nice as gifs. Some people don't like to color their gifs, and that's okay. I personally just like color edited gifs more.
I've started learning how to upscale scenes myself, so that I have a better resolution and leeway to make things look "HD" more.
If you're wondering why my stuff look so "crisp", it's a combination of the scene's lighting, my sharpening settings on Photoshop and knowing how to upscale everything into 4k resolution. Of course, doing this needs an extremely beefy pc, which I am very lucky to own one.
Here's another before and after of a nicely lit scene. These are much, MUCH easier to do than all the darkly lit scenes because of shadows and lighting (caitlyn kiramman truly the rizzler <3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've been very lucky to be able to essentially take a nice, long break for like a month doing nothing after being so damn busy for the last year and a half, so it's nice that I was able to make a ton of gifs and be chronically online for a short while LMAO.
It's been so fun! But it's time to go back to reality lmao. I closed reqs for a bit because I was just so swamped with them the last few days, and I wanted to gif scenes that I like this time. I've done like 2 weeks worth of gifs. And you will see Vi a lot bc she's on my mind a lot heehee 🥰what can I say, she's such a babe <3
Here's a lil sneak peek, just look at herrrrrrr 🥰🥰🥰 and yeah, 4k upscaled resolution really helps making these tight crops, it's why i never went back to 1080p lol. It's how I’m able to make zoomed in gifs look decent (like the kirammountains gifset lol)
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for all the support, likes, reblogs, and the nice tags you guys give. Yes, I can see and read all of them (both the nice and nasty ones lmao). If you have nothing good to say about the characters or my editing style, or anything related to the edit, please I beg you, just write a separate text post about it <3 If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it in my edits.
Lastly, thank you to the people who share my stuff outside the site and credit the blog and link them back here. I see you and appreciate you <3 You guys don't know how much I appreciate shoutouts and link backs, because people stealing my gifs is something that I've dealt with after making them for like a decade.
Tumblr is sadly not what it used to be in the 2013-2015 era. There’s definitely less activity as time goes by, so I appreciate all the people who credit and link back to this sideblog. Unfortunately, there’s more people who just repost them and it gets wayyy much more traction in other soc med sites. Yeah, ofc I get a lil jealous, but eh what can you do 😞 can’t really stop em.
I also don’t like putting watermarks because it personally looks tacky to me, but I understand why other people do it.
Anyways, if you reached at the end of this lil rambling of mine, thank you! I sadly might be busy during November because that's usually busy season, but I'll try to make time for making gifs of Season 2! Thank you and enjoy your stay on this lil sideblog :)

I can understand some people being new around here and trying to get the hang of posting and rebloging. I get it.
But after a while, you start to get to know your reblog and like buttons and how to comment, how to handle your blog and even try some html coding to make it look neat and pretty. Tumblr has it's faults, but what I love about it is that it's very easy to grasp and start blogging.
Now, I've seen some people around the tags still being unsure of how to post stuff or reblog, so let me just say this.
Don't just copy/save gifs or art and then repost them on your own blog, and add under it "I dunno which person this gif this belongs too" or "Neat art". I've seen gifs from other gif makers and art from other artist getting reposted around here without even getting credited. I can recognize almost all the gif makers around here, especially when it comes to the #tropedit tag, by their unique colorings and ways to make beautiful gifsets. And when I see reposts getting more notes than their own original post...This is how this site looses it's gif makers and artists.
Right, so instead of going off and rant, I'm gonna turn this into a little tutorial.
Okay, so you see some cool gifs around here, and it's in a set. And you go "Aahh, I want this by its self for my mood board" or "This will fit my fanfic soooo nicely". Instead of going copy/save and then repost the same gif on your blog, here a cool little feature:
Tumblr media
You click on that little blue button called GIF and a drop down menu pops up, featuring gajillion gifs that are all on this site.
"But, how do I find the gif that I want?" Have you noticed that every gifset or art that gets posted here, all have unique tags that are relevant to that artist or gifmaker? For example, here's one of my unique tags:
Tumblr media
Now, you just need to scroll down and find the one that you've been looking for. OR from that gif, notice some other tags and you search for something else that you like.
Once you find it, you just click it and it does this:
Tumblr media
Voilà! Now, you can start writing, you can start adding other gifs! But, you do notice what's under the gif, right? It's you giving credit! No need for @, no need for asking around which gif this belong to. It's just does it's thing automatically, I get a notification that someone liked it a lot and used it in their post.
That's it! Nothing complicated.
Now, when it comes to art...Just reblog from the artist, please. Share the art around by rebloging directly from them, not doing the old copy/save/repost or @. Just reblog it from them. It's that simple!
Hopefully, this was helpful for any new people coming here and being too shy to ask about these things! Have fun posting!

Fanfiction Etiquette 101
(Things You Didn't Know You Need To Know)
So, I have seen some discussions about these things on my dashboard, and I know some people are new to tumblr and new to fanfiction in general, so I decided to put this list together in case it might help people. And this stuff goes for all fandoms, no matter what type of fanfiction to write and post.
Also fyi, this post is mostly for people who write and post fanfiction.
1: Putting A Readmore/Cut On Fanfiction
So a 'readmore' (also known as a 'cut') is the ability to put the body of your fanfiction under a cut off link so that people's dashboards are not clogged up by long sprawling paragraphs of text. This is also helpful if your fic contains smut and people don't want to be subjected to smut - people have to click through to keep reading sensitive topics.
The button for it looks like this on desktop:
Tumblr media
And this bar of options comes up on desktop when you hit 'enter' on a blank line.
And it looks like this on mobile:
Tumblr media
Tumblr put it permanently into the hotbar of options so that it's easier for people to put a readmore on their posts on mobile.
Once you have inputted it, it comes up as a light grey jagged line, showing you where your text cuts off in the main post aka what text is visible before the cut and what's not.
And generally, I think it's a good idea to put the readmore after the first paragraph of your fic, or after the description/summary.
I have noticed that some people put it in after several paragraphs for a longer fic, but I think to make fics easier to reblog, you could put it closer to the top. And even if you're writing smut blurbs, you should put it close to the top to keep smut concealed in case people don't want to read or see smut.
If you don't use a readmore, people are less likely to reblog your fic because they don't want to put a long text wall on other people's dashboards.
2: Using (Stolen) Gifs As Fanfiction Covers
I have seen some discussion about using gifs from google, and people putting a gif that they have downloaded and simply writing under it 'this gif is not mine, please DM me if it's your and I will give you credit'.
It's generally established among gif makers that downloading random gifs and putting them on your fanfiction is bad etiquette. Those are considered stolen gifs.
Even if you say it's not yours and offer to give credit, any gif you repost that is not yours is considered a stolen gif.
Fanfiction writers and gif makers need to work together, not against each other. Reblog gif sets you like, and don't download random gifs, no matter what the source is.
The best way to use gifs as fanfiction covers is to make them yourself or to use the tumblr integrated gif search system.
The gif search system is in the same hot bar as the readmore, labelled under 'gif'.
When you pull it up and click on it, you type in the name of the character you are looking for, and then you can scroll through the results. You can click on a gif to add it to your post, and remove it if you don't like it. So you can try out different gifs to find the right fit of what you're looking for.
Tumblr media
And when you find what you're looking for and put it on your post, it automatically credits the gifmaker.
Tumblr media
And the credit appears like this. And the name of the gifmaker can be clicked and then it takes you to their blog, so you can see who made the gif. This is a much better way to use gifs, because if someone likes a gif they see on your fic post, they can click through to the original gifmaker and reblog it.
Alternatively, using stills from the show/piece of media you're fanfic is about is a great way to avoid using stolen gifs.
2.5: Using Flashing Gifs On Fanfiction
I have noticed that a lot of people use flashing dividers for their fics, and they don't tag it with a flashing warning (#flashing gif or something similar) and they don't see this as a problem.
Using a flashing gif in fanfiction without a warning can negatively affect disabled readers. Not just people with photosensitive seizures, but people with migraines and different types of eye issues.
3: Using Coloured Text For Fanfiction
Speaking of accessibility issues, I have noticed that many people (especially people new to tumblr/new to fanfiction) use Tumblr's coloured text option to differentiate characters in fanfiction - assigning one colour per character with dialogue.
Some people also just use coloured text for the whole body of their fics, just making it straight up unreadable for disabled people.
Using coloured text in fanfiction makes it inaccessible because certain types of colour blindness makes it unreliable to see on a white background, and bright colours can cause eye strain for different types of disabilities.
It is kinder to use the traditional black text for the body of your fic, and any important information (like the content warnings, DNI criteria, etc).
4: Putting Thorough Content Warnings On Fanfiction
Speaking of content warnings - I could (and probably should) make an entire post about this topic alone, because many writers (both new and old) are severely lacking in this department.
Content warnings are supposed to be more for just smut - and if you do have smut in your fic, you should put warnings for that, instead of just releasing for fic into the wild with no warnings at all. Content warnings are supposed to be for anything that could be potentially triggering for a reader - phobias and fears, sensitive topics, uncomfortable or fear-inducing situations, and kinks and nsfw topics.
Tbh I think not enough people put warnings for alcohol and alcohol consumption in their fics, because alcohol is far too normalized to most people, but again - I could probably make a whole post just about content warnings in fanfiction. Basically: if you think your post could be triggering to someone with an addiction or in addiction recovery (or triggering to a sober person who doesn't want to read about drugs or alcohol) - then include those things in the content warnings.
Fanfiction is about informed consent.
People need to be better informed about what the content of your fic is before they consent to reading it. Also, if you're worried about the warnings being too detailed and giving away 'spoilers' for your fic, then you're probably worried about the wrong thing. And you can just put a warning at the very top that says "the content warnings of this fic contain spoilers for the plot of the fic" and let people make their choice if they want to skip the content warnings or not.
Please, write about all the dark or sensitive topics that you want, but just put detailed warnings on your fic so people can be informed about it before reading your fic.
People always appreciate thorough warnings, and they are more likely to read your fic if they are fully informed before clicking into the body of it.
4.5: (Not) Censoring Content Warnings
Tumblr is not tiktok. (Same goes for posting fics on AO3, but this post is mostly about Tumblr fics.) On Tumblr you can say/spell out any word you want without your post being suppressed or taken down - suicide, kill, murder, fuck, abortion, hell, porn, tits, cumshot, etc.
So that means that when you're writing out the content warnings of a fic, you should write them out fully, rather than putting slang or alluding to the topics in a fic. (Again, informed consent.) Rather than saying 'this fic contains SA', say: 'this fic contains sexual assault' or 'this fic contains rape'.
I saw someone using the term 'unalive' in the content warnings of their fic, and tbh, that's what inspired me to make this whole post.
If you're not mature enough to spell out all the topics in the content warnings of the post, you're not mature enough to be writing and posting about those topics.
Also, try not to use terms that need to be looked up/implicit terms. Certain terms for kinks (like dacryphilia or somnophilia) might lead a person to google those terms and find things they don't want to see. So instead of using those terms, just say 'crying kink' or 'sleeping kink' instead, so that everything is spelled out plainly.
...
This is all I can think of for now. Basically, just be kind to others when posting fics. Be kind to gif makers, disabled readers, and anyone from your fandom who might have an interest in your fic! Be safe and have fun writing! <3

Dear Fanfic Lovers,
We're fully aware that tumblr's searching system is far from ideal, even though we try our best to create an extensive fanfiction library for you where you can always find anything you fancy, however niche it may be, but we're continuously looking for ways to make your experience as smooth as possible. 🖤
Here are a few tricks to help you navigate through the blog (you can also find this in our Navigation post, under 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗦) and a few miscellaneous tips for writers as well.
If you have any needs these functions don't offer a solution to, or you know another useful hack that could enhance the experience on this blog, let us know!
FOR WRITERS
✦ some tricks and tips on how to reach your audience
If you feel like you can't quite reach readers with your story, please don't blame yourself! Tumblr is sometimes the creators' enemy, you just need to know a few things you can use to your advantage! Apart from the tips there's also a heartfelt message from the lovely @undercoverpena as well! 🖤 Pedrostories is here for you!
✦ how to add a gif to your work crediting the gifmaker
If you're a fanfic writer and you would like to insert a gif in your work while properly crediting the gifmaker, here's an easy to follow guide to use tumblr's image insert feature. Important: If you reupload a gif, even though you credit them in your post, someone else might find that gif later, using the image insert feature and it might credit you as the gifmaker instead of the original creator.
This is how it looks like in the notifications when someone uses a gif you uploaded:
Tumblr media
And this is how it gives credit to the person who uploaded the gif:
Tumblr media
FOR READERS
And now here are a few tips about how to find any work that caters to your needs on our blog:
✦ tags: here you can find our most used tags based on the length, rating, main characters of the stories, and some other important tags, like tropes as well
✦ writers' masterlist: here you can find all the writers in the pedro fandom. The list is continuously updated, please let us know if someone is missing!
✦ blacklisting tags: curate your own experience! We tag every story based on the author's notes and warnings, and if we have the capacity to read the piece, with our own tags. If there’s a character/trope/dynamic/etc. you would like to avoid, you can easily blacklist tags on tumblr.
✦ tag finder: this is the best way to search tumblr’s tag system - it actually accurately looks through the tags without omitting results. (source)
✦ blog searching tricks and tips: if you’re on desktop/browser and you're looking for an exact word, here are some easy ways to find the post you're looking for!
✦ all the tags we've ever used: This is a super simple and incredibly useful script by Benjamin Horn which you can use to find Every. Single. Tag. we've ever used on the blog, and if you click on the results it will take you back to the blog, listing all the posts with that tag! Here's how to use it:
Open the link (duh), type in the blog's name on the top left corner, and click on Load tags.
Tumblr media
2. It might take a few minutes for the results to load, so be patient 🧘♀️
Tumblr media
3. Voilá! You can click on any of the tags and it will take you back to the blog, listing all the posts with that tag!
Tumblr media
That's it for now! Again, if you have any needs these functions don't offer a solution to, or you know another useful hack that could enhance the experience on this blog, let us know!
Happy reading! 🖤

Dear Ficwriters,
Those who know me in the fandom know full well I’m your #1 cheerleader being a fanfiction lover myself, so please don’t take this the wrong way, but pleasepleaseplease credit gifmakers whenever you use their creations ♥️ The gif searching function on tumblr is a super easy way to credit the original creator and if you’re not sure how to use it, I’m more than happy to explain it to you in my DMs! (Also this is a great tutorial)
This also goes for screenshots - I’ve recognized screenshots of my gifs without giving me credit in banners/moodboards/etc multiple occasions because I had been staring at my own gif for a ridiculously long time while coloring it (compare gifmakers’ gifs to the original material, you’ll see the huge difference - probably that’s why you decided to use the gif as the source in the first place) and when the original colors are extra fucked up I manipulate them according to my taste to make the scene look prettier.
I’m extra saddened to see that because I’ve said multiple times that I’m always excited and honoured when a writer asks me to edit something for their fanfiction, could be a banner or a gifset, or really, anything.
If you have one takeaway from this post, please remember to ask for permission from the creator if you want to use a screenshot of their work, and please know that my requests are open if you want something made for you specifically ♥️

✨ before and after coloring challenge ✨
A week ago the lovely @bizarrelittlemew tagged me in this challenge, so here it is me finally doing it :D
So. Yeah. Stealing gifs is a very shit move folks 😑. They take time and effort to make- they're not gonna colour and cut and frame and slow-mo and sharpen (etc. etc.) themselves. Someone's doing it -we the gifmakers are doing it- and so if you take that gif and repost it without a word of credit to the person who made it, that's just a dick move and it's very hurtful to the gif-maker in question. 🙁
Here's a quote from @saltpepperbeard, that illustrates my sentiments perfectly: "Because yes, gifs are art. They take time, and effort, and skill to get all beautified up. They help share beloved series around, and help shed light on lovely moments! And just like other mediums, many of us are doing this just because we're passionate, just for FUN.So it hurts to see that passion miscredited, or outright stolen. It hurts to see a stolen piece getting excitement, when we wanted to organically share that with others ourselves." [x]
So please, if you can't find the gif you need by the add gif function and you need to repost -then give credit to the original gifmaker 💗

Hi no need to post this if you don't feel like responding but please give credit to the original gifmakers when you repost their gifs they'd appreciate it!!
hey! I know what post you're talking about lol I generally would not post a gif uncredited but that was really just intended be a throw-away text post I only expected three mutuals to see so I didn't make the effort (my bad), and instead just reblogged the gifset it was from right after. was not expecting it to get 400+ notes lol. I've gone back and added the source on the post, but I recognize this is now a "closed the stable door after the horse bolted" situation

It's been brought to my attention that Worlds Apart has been stolen again. I don't know the name of the Wattpad account yet, and I don't know whether they at least credited me or not, but:
1. If you know their account's name, please report them and let me know the name, either in my inbox or via dm, so I can reach out and tell them to take my work down
2. I only post my stories on tumblr or on my AO3 account munsons_maiden so if you see my stories on any other account or platform, it means they've been stolen.
I DO NOT GIVE CONSENT FOR ANY OF MY STORIES TO BE REPOSTED.
The fact that this KEEPS happening, again and again, is disheartening and discouraging and, frankly, makes me want to stop posting my stories altogether for a while. World Apart, for example, took me half a year to write; 6 months of working on this story every single day, hundreds of hours not only of writing but also plotting, re-writing and editing. My heart and soul have been poured into it, and part of a deeply personal traumatic experience which, by writing this story, didn't entirely heal but soothe to a point where I started to make peace with it.
I'm not the only writers this happens and keeps happening to.
And it needs to stop. If you want to steal something, go to the British Museum or shit, but don't steal stories. It makes you a horrible person.
Over and out.
For those new to tumblr: rePOSTING = copy-pasting a story and then posting it as a new post on your own account, don't do that; reBLOGGING = pressing the two little arrows beside the like button at the end of the post and it means supporting a writer (or artist, gifmaker etc) to spread the works they created and it automatically shows who originally posted it so reblogging is what needs to be done to support us and keep fandoms and this site alive while reposting makes you a shitty person with a special place in hell hopefully reserved for just you, and not in a good way.

How to identify stolen gifs
I've been seeing what look to be stolen gifs (stolen meaning copied and pasted either from another creator's gifset or from Google images, without giving any credit to the original creator) in the Narnia tags and wanted to address how to identify stolen gifs because this isn't the first time I've seen stolen gifs in the fandom tags.
Previously when gifs like these have been posted, they've gained a lot of notes, so I wanted to post a quick guide this time on how to identify stolen gifs so that stolen gifsets don't gain as much traction in this fandom. Creators put a lot of time into their creations, and they deserve credit for their work.
Here are some of the key clues that gifs have likely been stolen:
1. COLORING
Creators spend a lot of time making sure that coloring is consistent across a gifset, so one of the easiest ways to tell if gifs are stolen is if they look very inconsistently colored and edited. This could look like a mixture of warm-toned and cool-toned gifs, or very bright gifs mixed with duller or paler gifs. Generally, if the gifs look visually inconsistent and off, they could be stolen gifs.
2. SIZING
This is another dead giveaway. When creators make gifsets, they size the gifs so that they fit within Tumblr's dashboard requirements. Gifs must be evenly and uniformly sized so that they display correctly on the dash. For a two-column gifset, for example, gifs that are displayed next to each other will be the same height and width, or else they will display at incorrect sizes and ruin the layout and appearance of the gifset. Stolen gifs are always different sizes from each other because they have been stolen from many different posts whose original creators sized their gifs differently to fit the layout they wanted (e.g., a two-column layout of eight small gifs vs. a single-column layout of six narrow gifs).
I know that enlarging images has changed recently on mobile and become more difficult, but on desktop, it's still very easy to click on gifs and view them enlarged next to each other. If one gif is much taller or larger than the other, yet they have been posted directly next to each other in the gifset, those gifs are most likely stolen.
3. RESOLUTION/SHARPNESS
As with sizing, stolen gifs pulled from various gifsets and posted together in a new post often vary widely in their resolutions (sharpness). This is because 1.) the gifs were originally created at different resolutions and sizes to fit the layout the creator wanted, and 2.) because the gifs are not uniformly sized in the new post, they are all displaying at sizes they weren't meant to originally, which distorts their resolution. If you see a gifset with some gifs that look very sharp and others that look very blurred or distorted, it's probably made of stolen gifs.
4. TAGS
Most creators use edit tags to help their creations get more visibility (in this fandom, #narniaedit or #tconedit). They also usually use the tracked tags of other content creators (like #user[insert name], #[insert name], or #blogurl) so that those creators will reblog their gifsets and give them increased visibility.
Stolen gifsets, however, typically don't use those tags. Instead, they often use a long string of popular tags within the fandom—different variations of the fandom's name, a slew of different characters in the fandom (even if those characters don't appear in the gifset), etc. Tag spam, basically. If you see a gifset that fits the above criteria and has some wonky tags, it's most likely made of stolen gifs.
BOTTOM LINE: If you want to post gifs on your blog, reblog them from their original creators. If you want to include gifs in your own original posts but aren't able to make gifs, use Tumblr's gif search function, which gives credit to the creator of the gif. It's right in the text post editor (screenshotted below), so there's no reason to not use it.
Tumblr media
If any gifmakers want to add on to this, please do!

can you please not repost other people's gifs on your work? gifmakers don't like people reposting their gifs at all. since you write "do not repost" at the bottom of your fics it's a little ironic that you're reposting gifs (doesn't matter what you searched or where you got it from, it's reposting). instead of uploading the gif, you can use gifs without reposting them when the gif links back to the original poster and says "gif by ___." I'm not sure exactly which steps to take to get the gif to say that, but that wouldn't be reposting and it would give the op the right credit for their gif.
Hello👋🏼, you could’ve easily just DM’d me this tbh. I actually made this gif myself, which is why it isn’t watermarked or anything! All the gifs that are going to be used for Kinktober and Slashtober are going to be made by me, unwater marked and etc. if someone wants to use the gifs I make without credit tbh I don’t really care, the “Do not repost” is more so for my writing. I’m sure there is another gif like this on Google or on tumblr, or just on the internet in general but, I made this one. Just like the gifs that are pinned to my blog, I made those. But just so there is no confusion I made a whole new gif, uploaded it to the fic and will make sure I credit myself right at the bottom. So there is no confusion for the future💙! Thank you so much tho, it’s nice to see ppl are actually worried/care about ppl getting the credit they deserve!

Hey! Wanted to ask a q about giffing. I saw your recent post about not reposting gifs, only reblogs. I totally get that, so how do gif reactions come into play? Like is it okay to search for a gif as a reply or comment? (or are thes two separate things im conflating?? Im such a tech grandma 😂). Anyway, i very much appreciate all the hard work you do! Your gifs are so lovely 💛
Thank you so much for wanting clarity and for appreciating gifmakers' efforts. I likewise love your writing and I'm grateful for all the hard work you put into crafting beautiful stories! ♥️ You're not the only one who has asked about this so I'm going to direct my answer to the masses:
Concerning my earlier post, reposting is when someone creates a post comprised of someone else's original creations without permission: that's never okay, whether you "give credit" or not. Reaction gifs are different. Adding a reaction gif to someone else's post is totally fine! It's part of the language of Tumblr, and the internet as a whole. Some of the greatest posts on this site are what they are because of the additional images and comments made as the post circulated. (Some of you are hiding absolute gold in your tags; please consider adding those thoughts as comments so that people can see them!)
When Tumblr added the gif search function back in 2015, many people understood what that was intended for and used that function to search for reaction gifs to add to existing posts. However, others used that function as a way to find gifs they liked, create an original post comprised solely of other people's work, and then claim that it was okay because at least they were "giving credit" ("yeah i took your stuff but at least i told everyone who i stole it from...").
Reposting is theft. Reposting removes the creator from their work and seriously damages the changes of others finding the creator. I've seen reposted work with thousands of notes, and brilliant comments and tags the original creator should have seen and enjoyed, but they didn't because someone stole that from them. I don't know a single semi-notable gifmaker on this site who hasn't experienced that and it is so disheartening. Reblogging, on the other hand, is wonderful and is what makes this site functional.
If someone asks you not to repost something they made, take it down without an argument. Telling someone they should expect other people to take their stuff if they post it online is like telling someone they should expect other people to steal their car if they park it outside of their garage. Of course it is a possibility, but we shouldn't expect or tolerate that kind of behavior. It is incredibly selfish to feel entitled to take anything you like. We should try to be respectful toward each other.
Learning the ins and outs of different social media platforms takes time, and I remember being in those shoes back in 2012 when I first stumbled onto Tumblr. I'm definitely willing to grant leeway if someone is unfamiliar with the etiquette of this goofy site. But I've also had plenty of far less pleasant interactions with reposters, almost always users who are fully aware of Tumblr etiquette (and basic common courtesy), but who chose to ignore it anyway. I have zero patience for that kind of disrespect toward myself or other creators. So, again, if I see anyone reposting my gifs, artwork, or creations OR someone else's gifs, artwork, or creations, I will block them immediately! You take my stuff and I block your access to the rest of it. So never repost. Reblog the original.

thank you so much! another question when giffing/screencaping/or taking videos of either the pacific or band of brothers, do you need to give credit or anything?
You're welcome!
I would give credit if I took something from another creator and incorporated that in my work in any way. So if I use somebody else's templates, coloring, etc. I will try to give credit for that where I can. It's considered to be a really common courtesy to include a link to the original work and/or creator. They worked hard on their stuff and deserve the attention for it! I tend to build a lot of my own work from scratch and follow tutorials to be able to produce it myself, though, so for me the credit situation rarely comes up.
Similarly, and I really want to say this to any and all fic authors: it's a must to credit the gifmaker whose gif you use in a fic or imagine or prompt or whatever else have you. Better yet, reach out to the gifmaker and ask if you can use their gif in your fic! Usually the answer will be positive, but please also listen if a gifmaker refuses. They might have spent hours on a particular piece of that work and might not want it to be used 'out of context', or they might not support the ship or story you want to use their gif for.
You do not need to credit everyone who was involved in creating the show, though. It usually suffices to use the show's tag, like "band of brothers" or "the pacific", because if people want to know which show it is they will rely on that and be able to google the rest. Basically: credit what you cannot google, do not credit what can be googled in 5 seconds flat.

Tumblr media
looks like x (twitter) changed "retweet" to "repost". clarifying for the newer folks from Twitter on here: when content creators like artists or gifmakers say "do not repost my work", that DOES NOT mean "do not reblog" (reblog = retweet). on tumblr, "reposting" means REUPLOADING the content (e.g. gifs or art) of an already-existing post to your own post, usually without the permission of the content's creator. you should always assume that creators do not allow reposts (reuploads) of their work, unless they explicitly give you consent.
PLEASE DO reblog content creators' work from the original creator! we deserve notes- direct recognition- for our own work. DON'T give reposted (reuploaded) content any notes if no credit to the original creator is given (even then, many creators don't allow reposting even if you give credit. if you don't know their permissions, best practice is to not repost at all).

Hiya ! Sorry to disturb, but I'd like to ask that going forward you please credit the gifs you use in your stimboards by linking back to their original posts below the board. I'm a gifmaker myself, so it'd mean a lot to me if you would. I see in your DNI you ask that people not repost your content, so I'm sure you understand why giving proper credit is appreciated by creators. If you have any questions or need help finding sources, my DMs are always open !
Have a good one !
oh yeah youre right! i will do that going forward. sorry if any offense was caused and thanks for the tip!
i’m posting this publicly so the submitter and my followers will now know that I am going to try and start making sure proper credit is given in the description of boards!! :< i’m again so sorry for any offense caused, i really want to do better now that i know.
