VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.

Please check on the fish doorbell once in a while :)

At mass this morning, we were asked who Jesus is to us. I can't understand why the question even needs to be asked, but here's the answer.

Jesus is my father. He has been faithful to you in word and deed his entire life, and your short-sightedness and willful ignorance nearly caused him to sacrifice me, all unawares.

Jesus is my brother. He pays you lip service so as not to upset the people who love us, but he doesn't believe any more, and that's on you. There was a time when his faith burned as strongly as mine ever did. Now he just pities me that I'm still on fire, and doesn't understand that this fire can never consume me (but it can be smothered, and it nearly went out from lack of oxygen).

Jesus is my husband. He was not born into my faith, and my faith is such a mess that I will never ask him to join it. But we will live our lives together, full of love for each other and for the world, and that will be enough for us. He will never make me choose. If you try, I will choose him.

Jesus is my nephew. So young. So new. So fresh and unspoiled by the world. But my niece is the reason I'm doing this.

You keep asking who Jesus is. Jesus is the Father incarnate. Jesus is the butterfly - but the species, not the specimen, is every person in His story who chose His greater part. Who chose to go on ahead and lead us in His footsteps, or to keep searching until they could find His trail.

But me, I'm the ones who stayed behind. The ones who showed kindness to Him and freed him from Omelas, not to destroy the city but to save the ones He sacrificed himself for. Dying is easy. Living is harder. Stop worshipping His death. Start worshipping His life, and what He tried to buy for you with it. You don't want my kindness yet. Choose His kindness, day after day, and maybe when the time comes you will savour mine. He did, as loath as I was to grant it.

I won't let you hurt Him any more. I hope you won't hurt me, either, but I'm willing to accept it if you do. My nephew and my niece will grow up in a better world than any of us did, because if I can't change the world, I fear a future where my mercy is the only one left to them.

The Church Fathers passed down their wisdom and asked us to accept it as Gospel. Where are the Church Mothers in this? That's why I came to Catholicism. It's not cause and effect. If I had been born in another faith, I would have been given another task. But none of the options in the Church of my birth suit me, and I have no interest in taking orders at this point in my life.

I have had to choose between changing the world and leaving it. I will leave it anyway someday. Let's work together and change it for the better. If my niece or nephew chooses the kitchen as their greater part, I want to leave it in order for them. But the first step along that path is to stop focusing on the flesh, and start focusing on the spirit - the living spirit, not the spirit of a sacrifice two thousand years gone whose words you have twisted and whose purpose you have forgotten. Decorate your house however you like, but it seems crass and tawdry to clothe your Father's remains in gold and gems to venerate your consumption of Him, while your siblings and cousins and neighbours freeze and starve and die from a thousand cuts.

You are going to listen to me, because I will not leave one stone atop another if I believe one of you might harm a hair on either of my niblings' heads. Being an artist online sucks these days, but here on tumblr I still get compliments under artworks that I made years ago. I hope you know every WOW and heart emoji and heartfelt compliment and funny comment you left in the tags is part of the reason I kept drawing all these years, in spite of everything that was going on.
