Predictions for Arcane as a franchise + my thoughts! Season 2, Act 3 spoilers ahead.

jayce, viktor, and jinx can't be dead. Let me tell you why.

no. 1, Arcane's been pretty explicit with deaths. Silco, Vi and Cait's moms, Benzo, the sergeant from season 1 act 1 etc etc we've all seen dead bodies, time pass without them coming back, or character arcs shifting to accommodate deaths (lsha's and Silco's death shaping Jinx). In season 2, Maddie's, Ambessa's, and random extra's deaths were all shown on screen. Therefore, if we don't see a body, the body's still moving.

no. 2, while this is Arcane's last season, there's going to be more Runeterra shows. Of course we don't know what's going to happen over there, but I don't think Riot and Fortische are just going to throw Arcane's characters away unless they do. "the arcane is waking up" and all that jazz. Seems to me like the arcane isn't back to sleep, and who has experience with the arcane. Oh, right, all these cool guys. Leading to points 3 and 4.

no. 3, Jayce's crystal, given to him by the mage (Viktor) in season 1, was used for teleportation, if I remember correctly. Rather than dying/getting sucked into the crystal, they've been teleported somewhere else and will be used to shift the focus onto that location. This fits. Moving to a completely different location would disrupt the glorious evolution. Plus we didn't see their bodies so.

EDIT: apparently it was the rune of insight or smth. my bad. Still, theres a chance? Please Riot, pleaaseee

no. 4, Jinx my beloved. There was a line of shimmer leaving the explosion at the bottom of the pit, and the epilogue of Cait looking at the pit and seeing air ducts hints that Jinx/Powder escaped. I'm pretty sure the Zepplin shown at the end was to imply she left Piltover and Zaun, finally becoming her own person. Throughout the show, her identity was determined by her relationships (hair mirroring Silco's, smoke tattoos for Vi, mental illness from causing her brothers' deaths), and with hallucination Silco suggesting the best way to change the Cycle of Killing is leaving, that's what she chose to do. Additionally, her handwriting for the "the end" at the finale suggests that she was there to write it. She's alive guys trust me. Her change of scenery can be used to shift the focus to a different location.

My personal Thoughts:

on no. 4, I would hate it if they decided to kill Jinx after she found herself. It's overused. Seeing Jinx/Powder finally become herself without Silco's, Zaun's, and her sister's baggage in a new place would be super interesting. As someone who doesn't play League, I've heard there's some blond character she's shipped with from a different country/city? Foreshadowing perhaps? Plus it'd be so in character for her to start a new series with a chaotic "I bet you're wondering what I did after I faked my death."

Cait and Vi will probably remain in Piltover/Zaun doing reform (the show's whole point). The reason why Vi didn't look super duper sad is probably because she's going through shock or because Cait reassured her that Jinx/Powder isn't dead (air ducts). Ekko's probably going to do reform w/ the power couple because that's his motivation.

The sex scene's context is a bit odd, but Jinx literally gave Vi permission to be with Cait so... ? When life gives you lemons, give your gf head i guess. Wish Cait did apology head though, she really hurt Vi... But then again, Vi probably wanted to get lost in the sauce and forget about everything around her, hence the "I don't fucking care" comment.

Jayce was right, Viktor was blinded. Love that they're in love.

It's so interesting to see Sevika going from backing revolutionaries (Silco and Vander) to becoming a revolutionary herself and actually getting a seat on the council!! She went from kingmaker to king.

Thought season 2 was kinda rushed? Idk wished we had hour long episodes just to flesh things out.... still a great season.

It's not over. With the success this show's been giving Netflix, there's at least twenty more on the horizon. God bless Riot and Fortische.

The years seemed to go by insanely fast—Ezreal had hoped when he had originally made this Rune Trap to keep Viktor at bay—to stop him from going on with his ‘glorious evolution’, that he could just leave the cosmic being from going through with it. Viktor had changed far too much—and though Ezreal believed that the man he loved had ‘died’ long ago and was replaced by the Herald, he still created this trap to keep him at bay—not just to save the world, or the universe, or anything else.

But in hopes that the man he loved was still in there and would come to his senses. “This is for your own good, Vik!”

He had begun with arcane runes; though Viktor had started breaking those rather easily. Ezreal had painstakingly continued to replace them every time one had broke until he had the idea to use some runes he had found in his research from Shurima. That seemed to have kept the Herald at bay for longer—a few years longer until he had managed to slowly figure it out. The days had become slow and torturous—Viktor would slowly break a new rune each day to watch Ezreal’s anxiety rise before the blonde would replace it. It was a game to the herald—and Ezreal had continued to play it for many more years, keeping him at bay while others had lived their lives. This task, was his life now. He chose this, and he could not keep Viktor unsupervised if he could bust through the runes so easily. Ezreal had shut himself out from the outside world in order to keep this task going…He had to give up on finding his parents which was painful for him, but he knew that he was the only one who could do this.

“Shit,” he hissed through his teeth as he heard the loud shattering of the rune. Ezreal’s form had gotten older; now in his mid fifties or so; voice much lower then it used to have been; his hair longer and facial hair growing on his face as he could not leave to maintain his appearance. Eating, too, was a struggle—but he managed. He had to manage.

His last ditch effort was to make his own runes—that might hold Viktor off, but Ezreal was unsure if it would even work. Teeth grit down together as he pulled all of his knowledge about runes and magic to the forefront of his mind; creating something that he hoped would work. Blue gaze flickered up to see the Herald, confused, as he tried to figure it out and was unsuccessful. The ground cracked from Viktor’s frustration, but it seemed like it had worked, which allowed Ezreal to finally let out the breath that he was holding.

Thirty more years had passed. Ezreal had continued to watch and maintain the Runes he had created; watching Viktor’s frustration until he heard a shattering sound as one was finally broken. Panicked, Ezreal had tried to replace it, though he was far too old and not nearly as fast enough to replace them as quickly as he used to.

“Our game has finished, old one. ”

A cough left Ezreal’s old, frail form. “…Held you off as long as I could. Surprised you managed to figure it all out…Let me guess…I’m going to die, now?”

“No.”

Viktor’s hand hovered over the old man’s face; the light in Ezreal’s eyes not nearly as bright as it used to be as golden eyes stared into them. The old adventurer didn’t have much time.

“ I wish to free you from this suffering as I have the others .”

“ Like I said, you are only preventing the inevitable .”

“ I enjoyed our little game. But I am going to claim you as one of mine now.”

“I think I’d rather die.”

Words had seemed to catch Viktor off guard. Ezreal could see the brief pain in them before it disappeared.

“ Unfortunate .”

“I know you’re still in there, somewhere…But hey, if I die, Atleast I’ll be with my parents, right? Let me have that.” Ezreal’s expression was tired; though sadness had glinted in his blue eyes as he looked up to the Herald. “Please, Viktor…”

“You would rather die than accompany me in the glorious evolution ?”

“You might still be in there but you aren’t the same. Pretty sure the guy I fell in love with died a long time ago. I’m tired, Viktor. I’m old. I don’t want to be apart of any of this.”

Ezreal watched as the others hand retreated, and a relieved sigh left him—weak and frail. “Thanks…I really wish you’d realize this whole evolution thing wasn’t the way to go. But I can’t stop you anymore. I did my best.”

“I can save you from this. But you…welcome it? The pain?”

“I don’t need a saviour. I needed you. But it’s fine…I’ll be…fine.” He could feel his breath getting more laboured and slow, hanging on by a thread before he felt hands take his face and tilt it so he would look at Viktor again, not seeing the Harold, but seeing Viktor—with shimmering blue and pink eyes and white hair; but he looked like himself, otherwise. Not some alien creature as the Herald did before.

“…Huh. I’m this old and I still got a cute guy holding onto my face. I still got it.” he tried to joke, voice weak as life continued to slip from him. He could feel Viktor pull him closer and press their foreheads together; not expecting such a bright light. When it dissipated, Ezreal’s eyes opened, blinking as he felt life flow through him, a hand moving to his face to no longer feel the prickle of facial hair or the wrinkles on his features. No—it was like his body was thrown 60 years back into the past. Young again—Full of life.

Confusion was written on his features; Ezreal went to speak before he felt his face being pulled forward again, only to feel Viktor’s lips press upon his own. Blue gaze widened, surprised—confused about what had happened and what was going to happen going forward. Ezreal was on his death bed and now he wasn’t…and Viktor..? What changed?

Arms wrapped around the Saviour’s neck and Ezreal pulled him closer, lithe fingers digging into Viktor’s light hair. The runes on Ezreal’s cheeks glittered lightly with magic; now mixed by the blues and pinks and whites adorned by the other man.

He had so many questions, but he would ask them later. He wanted this moment to last just a little longer.

They both deserved it.

02.     please respect that my portrayal follows most of viktor's old league canon with some arcane influence. i have an about page to give you some idea of what to expect, but the main difference is that i don't follow the herald of the arcane / the eldritchification of the hexcore plot line. instead, viktor has returned to zaun intending to bring about the glorious evolution as the machine herald.

03.     i write viktor as a villain who is obsessed with problematic transhumanist ideas. he's also disabled and while arcane made internalised ableism a large part of his characterisation, my portrayal here isn't going to conflate the two.

04.     i do not fuck with ai generated content or fan art used without proof of permission and credit.

05.     i'm extremely selective when it comes to shipping. romance and nsfw aren't topics i'm primarily interested in writing and relationships true to viktor's character aren't going to be particularly warm and fuzzy. that isn't to say i'm not interested in exploring complex dynamics, because i absolutely am.

1. We did not agree that the classism wasn’t just set dressing. Dunno where you got that.

2. I’ve not deleted anything. If your post isn’t showing up, then tumblr must’ve done something to it because I have no idea what you’re talking about here. I don’t delete posts.

3. That is the most uncharitable interpretation of the ending to season 1 I have ever seen. That’s just… wow. But whatever, let’s say you’re right then. If that IS the way you’re reading the ending of season 1, that the council can’t relate to the people of Zaun anymore and that it’s too late… how is season 2 a betrayal of that theme? Seems to me like Jinx blowing up the council had the exact effects you’re speaking of going into season 2. The council doesn’t view the people of Zaun with empathy. They DO enforce even harder on the class divide. Surly that shows that the themes you’re talking about are still present, no?

4. They DO focus on the cycle of violence in season 2. Ambessa is literally fueling the flames, stoking the undercity to a boiling point. Viktor decides that the way to end the conflict is to enforce his own will on everyone. Forcefully removing your rights and bodily autonomy is a form of violence. Are those NOT explored in season 2 with Ambessa’s dictatorship and Viktor’s glorious evolution?

5. Okay down the list:

5.1 Sevika is on the council. If that’s not an indicator or Zaunites being allowed into Piltover then I don’t know what is.

5.2 We DO see them breaking down the barriers. It happens during Jayce’s speech pleasing for Zaun to help them fight the oncoming war.

5.3 There’s a time-skip there. By the time we cut back to Act 2 the paint has been removed. And Zaun wouldn’t have helped back then because they LIKED that Jinx did that. So not really a fair point.

5.4 I disagree because that’s the inherent tragedy of Piltover and Zaun is the fact they don’t come together fully, and Arcane is a tragedy. All the same though, that’s what Episode 7 was about. Showing what could have been. I don’t see much value in dwelling on that when they already spent an episode focused on it. Nor is this a show with a lot of kid characters for that to happen with. But sure, that’s not an unreasonable expectation, I’ll give you that.

5.5 The shimmer addicts are all dead. They were Viktor’s followers that he evolved into those automatons. And Caitlyn got rid of shimmer when she was general. So that’s out of the question.

5.6 Fair enough, I’ll grant that. Though again I don’t see it as necessary. That’s more wish fulfillment than needed.

5:7 Again, I don’t think that’s reasonable because I don’t think the tensions between them are gone. Especially given the looks Sevika got on the council. Again. That’s the tragedy of the two cities and this class divide. Even a big war isn’t going to stop classism from existing. If it were that easy we wouldn’t have classism in real life!

5.8 Another wish fulfillment, not really necessary.

Seems to me like the main issue is that you wanted the classism to be resolved, and wanted to see happy scenes indicating that this was the case so you can feel good about it. But that’s not what Arcane is, arcane is a tragedy. It’s always been a tragedy. And as such, I had no issues with them not resolving the classism problems.

The cycle of violence was the arcane. Heimerdinger even suggests that the arcane itself might have corrupting properties to it. So when Jayce and Viktor remove the arcane hextech from the world, that breaks the cycle. Neither side Piltover or Zaun can use Hextech to try and get an upper hand on each other anymore which was the driving factor for most of the plot of season 1. That’s why the AU universe was happier, and why the AU future was devastating. Hextech is part of the cycle of violence.

So I dunno, having a big robot battle where the violence is so extreem that Viktor is literally removing peoples free will to stop the violence just like Caitlyn was oppressing Zaun to stop the violence seems pretty fitting to me.

Okay two things:

1. That’s NOT the lens of season 1? Season 1 discusses the political issues between the cities, sure, but that’s more SETUP and SET DRESSING than anything else.

But whatever, let’s say you’re right. Let’s say that Season 1 actually IS supposed to be about the oppression and inequality between the two cities.

What’s the end of Season 1 say then? Because the end of season 1 is the council agreeing to make Zaun independent and Jinx blowing them away and getting rid of all opportunities to better the two cities. If the show is all about the oppression, what does Jinx blowing up the council when they’re ready to NOT oppress the city anymore mean???

The reason you’re struggling with viewing Arcane through this lens is because it’s NOT the intended lens and it doesn’t match with what the show is doing.

But that also brings me to my next point:

2. If you’re viewing it through this lens, then you understand that you can view it through DIFFERENT lenses, right? Like that’s the basis of most modern day media criticism and analysis isn’t it? Take a work of art and use different lenses to critique it and see how it fares.

So if you agree that lenses can be swapped… why the heck do you struggle with the idea of viewing Arcane through a different lens? Why does it have to ONLY be viewed through this one narrow lens you’ve decided on? Could you also not view it through a queer lens? Or through the lens of civil rights? Or women’s rights?

Or how about… you view it through the lens of the “cycle of violence” which is what the show was INTENDED to be viewed through? Why is that so hard?

If a particular lens isn’t working to view it through, why are you blaming the writers for that? Why wouldn’t your first thought be “hey, maybe I was wrong and this isn’t the lens the show was meant to be viewed through? Maybe I should try another one and see if that’s better?”

After many months of perfecting Viktor is finally discovering the new origins of Technology and especially the Magic that Hexcore allows and is keeping himself alive thanks to that. You've noticed, everyone has noticed how much Viktor has changed, even his demeanor is emptier and colder, you miss the time you spent together and how normal things seemed, now... Things are just getting sad.

You were one of the few people Viktor trusted to tell you about the Shimmer he's been using, you didn't agree at first but it was Viktor, you knew him since childhood! and you knew he wouldn't give in to the Shimmer so easily, you agreed to keep his secret ever since.

Even with some coldness from Viktor, you continue to help him with his projects, even in creating a robot project to help more people, who you two were thinking of calling him Blitzcrank.

Viktor, with time passed by, became more difficult to approach, even you couldn't get into his barrier, Jayce already affronted Viktor for his not so pleasant change, but Viktor didn't even pay attention to the complaints, he just thought about how to be able... to evolve.

Viktor had a crush on you, but now, he only sees the future for the glorious evolution that he constantly seeks, he doesn't want to worry about mundane feelings like love anymore, he wants to seek knowledge, even if for many nights he cries that he can't have anymore the relationship he had with you, but he ignores his own feelings, repressing them, and hopes deeply that you understand him and join the evolution with him.
