okay disclaimer: ik that categorizing female characters as the 'mom friend/figure' is a legit disease in fandom caused by general misogynistic views of female characters, and it's something that personally greatly irritates me bc its not only awful to do, it also tends to ruin the characters its put upon. ESPECIALLY in D2, which is outstanding in its cast of strong female characters

however. in the case of Eramis, I do believe that the fact that she was a mother and is a genuinely caring, nurturing person at heart is something that is a deeply important core part of her character, as well as thematically important to the future of the Eliskni moving forward. It's important because in her case, I believe that her motherly inclinations are why, pre-Witness-whispering-through-the-Darkness, Eramis was such a successful kell- because unlike some other kells who sought a future for the Eliksni via domination, her main focus for them was to create a haven for her people that could be defended from Lightbearers. Riis-Reborn wasn't something to sniff at- it was the closest thing to an actual Eliksni city in a very long while. What got her was her trauma of the Whirlwind and her desire to destroy the Traveler to level the playing field for everyone involved- trauma that the Witness preyed upon in order to get to us. Like a parasite, seeking its secondary host. Eramis certainly is not the only Eliksni who lost her family during the Whirlwind, but I think that her specific brand of anger is closest to that of a mother lion whose cubs are in danger, and is lashing out in a furious fight-or-flight reflex at anything that she perceives as a threat. It's just that in this case, her 'cubs' were the Eliksni as a whole, and the threat she perceived before the Witness started torturing her was the Traveler.

I also think that her relationship with parenthood also makes for a very interesting character contrast to Misraaks (aka the other successful kell viewed as a source of hope for the Eliksni), and helps to set them up as antiparallels to each other. Eramis was a gentle, nurturing mother with a reverence for the Traveler who turned into the bitter, cunning warrior we see now when she lost access to her wife and children; Misraaks was a fearsome, ruthless pirate before he became a father, which gentled him and turned him towards being more pious. Eramis represents the old ways, and offers hope to the Eliksni who cannot bear to cohabitate with humanity; Misraaks represents a change in the tide, and kells the open-minded Eliksni who are willing to lay down their arms to live among the humans of Sol. Misraaks is of Light (change, forgiveness, moving forward), while Eramis is of Darkness (memory, control, looking back). They're opposites in every way except for the fact that both of them were/are amazing parents, and I'd argue that their ability to nurture and overlook others is what led to their success as kells.

Most importantly, however, is their relationship to Eido, who represents the future of the Eliksni. Misraaks was her father, and he did his best to raise her to be kind and openminded, but he also shielded her from the horrors of the past a little too well. She's outgrown that, and now that she's strong enough to handle said horrors, Eramis has been acting as a mentor to fully introduce her to the tragedy of what she lost and why elder Eliksni are so angry about it- and I don't think that she would have been receptive to Eido attempting to talk to her if it weren't for the fact that under all of her prickly armour, she's still that nurturing person at heart. It's her desire to care for others and to see a better future for her people that has kept her going despite her having no hope for herself, and it's that loving heart that has saved herself and her people from utter destruction at both our hands and Fikrul's- because if she didn't look at eido and go 'oh this child is the future of our people and i must protect her with my life', then both her and the rest of House Salvation would have been marked for death. And now here she is, continuing to care for Eido even as her father declines by telling her stories about Riis and helping her track down an apothecary to try to cure him, despite her not believing in his ways. I don't think it's entirely because she used to be a mother, but...I do think that it's playing a huge role in it.

(I also think it's personally fascinating to see how someone who used to be known for being a doting, sweet mom to her hatchlings and a caring mate to her wife can turn into someone who's a terrifying warrior on the battlefield and a cunning, politically saavy ruler, but even then, that doesn't surprise me all that much- if you've got a dearth of experience wrangling hatchlings, then being kell of a house is basically just wrangling a bunch of grown-up hatchlings. Same principles, just upped a level or two in complexity.)

Hi everyone, this is my last semester of uni, and one of my final projects to be able to graduate is to write a scientific paper. I'm writing an article about adult fans of children's animation, specifically Miraculous Ladybug. the community council are DA superfans who've played portions of da:tv. they haven't played the whole game, but they've played farther than we've seen and gave bioware feedback over the game and story, from what i understand. kala has mentioned she thinks lucanis' voice is very sexy, so she's played enough to meet some of the companions we haven't seen voiced yet. kala also says she doesn't know if varric dies because she doesn't know the *ending* of the game or fate of the characters.

but to me the interaction that started the alarm bells going off in my head were:

kala: soooo since varric didn't show up in the prologue reveal yesterday... where do you think he is? 👀

it just sounds like they know something and they're being coy/funny about varric's fate. i think if varric actually died in the prologue they wouldn't be making jokes like this? idk.

BUT at the end of the day this is all just speculation on MY part. it could truly be that bioware omitted varric's fate from them and they really don't know if he's dead or alive. could also be that they know he's dead and they're just making jokes about it (which i find unlikely? but i don't know these ppl like that lmao maybe that's their sense of humor.)

Okay, okay here me out:

Vampire AU and this as Ambrosius and Ballister

Like, I don't even know what it might uphold. Maybe Ambrosius is lonely after leaving his screwed up snobbish family to love his one life and works at an animals sanctuary (the opposite of what his family wanted for him), and so one day he meets a little bat he thinks needs help and takes it home to nurse if back to health, and when he lets it go the little guy comes back every night to keep him company and he thinks he's made a friend.

This bat is, of course, Ballister, who, after being treated so kindly by this stranger, can't help but visit him every other night despite his ward (Nimona) warning him otherwise, but he's become friends with this handsome and lonely man, and wants to keep him company.

Also he gets free fruit and is treated like a little king when he's there so he doesn't want to give that up so soon.

I imagine they would bump (literally) into each other one night, Ballister in his human form, and while helping him up Ballister would realise that the man who bumped into him was his man! But Ambrosius doesn't know who he is at all, and yet finds this stranger so alluring that he stays and walks with him in the night.

Ambrosius doesn't see the stranger after that, but has noticed that his little friend Bat has been visiting much more frequently (as Ballister has found himself to be even more infatuated with the man), and leaves his balcony window open for him to get in when he wasn't home yet.

Then Ambrosius mentions to his little friend Bat that he thinks he wants to start dating, which Ballister is very much against because that would mean that some stranger was going to be cutting into his time with Ambrosius (this is when he realizes how much like Nimona he was acting).

OKAY SO FIRST OFF I'M NOT AN EXPERT ON PRINTING STUFF. the (very) short version is, purples and pinks don't show up well in the most common printing method, and that "most common printing method" is used in edible printing, like what's used for cupcakes and cakes

(most printing uses a color model called "CMYK," if you want to look it up)

so!! maybe you can use the images above the cut and it'll be fine, or maybe you need to give the printers these versions. these colors were picked because it lets the images turn out like the ones above the cut, NOT how they're shown here:

i'll find out if giving the printers either version works or what in a few months, and i'll update this section then (or sooner if someone fills me in), since i'm planning on getting myself a Lucifer ducky cake for my birthday :3

i'm including versions with circles because many cake designs are circular -- including the one Lucifer used in-show lol and what i plan to print -- and the circle is placed relative to where i intended the image to crop and how i intended its composition. (if you'd like the circle to be placed a bit different, you can do so using the square version)

i included a bunch of variations where Lucifer's not holding anything, if you want to add a number for someone's age for a birthday cake or your own object or some phrase or whatever you please

again, idk how printing works, so i might swap these out for the more vibrant versions depending on what i eventually learn. i'm just prioritizing these less bright versions basically so everyone remembers these are the intended / expected colors

AND A LAST TOTALLY UNRELATED NOTE:

if anyone wants to take a crack at making the image as show-accurate as possible, BE MY GUEST. SHORT VERSION IS, I DID A GOOF WHEN TAKING THE BASE IMAGE OUT OF PERSPECTIVE, SO IT CAN'T BE CROPPED TO LOOK HOW IT DOES ON THE CAKE LUCIFER CANONICALLY USES, WHAT WITH LUCIFER'S HAT AND ALASTOR'S EARS GETTING CROPPED OUT

(i wanted to make a "complete Lucifer hat and complete Alastor" version as well as a cropped version for the pedants [affectionate] out there. but the second version didn't work out when the time came 😔)

it'll probably take some artist's license to get everything to fit in a perfect circle, but here's two versions where i actually did the first step more correctly, using my program's "mesh transform" to get it circular

in the first image, Lucifer is more accurate, and Alastor is more accurate in the second, in case anyone wants to use these (no obligation; you can do your own thing if you'd prefer).

the mesh is still visible in the second image because i hadn't intended to keep the screenshot -- i just thought the mesh looked wild, so i screenshotted, but it was a lucky save since Alastor looks decent there. (it might also be preferable if you use a mesh with more points than in that screenshot)

again, some artist's license will likely be required to get them both looking good. have fun with it! i might try this project again in the future, but for now i'm done lol. (it'll probably be at least a few months or a few years if i do try again, and no guarantee that i will)
