"Ship fics where one person gets de-aged are weird" the de-aging trope is about healing your inner child by showing your young traumatized self that in the future they will have someone who loves them I'm seriously gonna kill you

I’m not trying to turn your kids trans; that’s stupid. I’m trying to turn them into socialists.

fighting the problematic stereotype of 'only the bad guys are weird sex perverts' by making the good-hearted protagonist an even weirder sex pervert

I know I’m just being a negative nelly but nothing turns me off a story faster than the idea that “the fey” are a long-standing historical/mythological entity and not a modern melange of about nine different traditions filtered through a lightly neopagan lens. They’re like draculas! We invented them and we are constantly reinventing them to suit our cultural needs. The idea of a “Summer/Winter Court” probably comes from a 2002 Jim Butcher novel, for goodness sake. And there’s nothing wrong with a modern mythology or an easily referenced fantasy canon. These sort of collectively understood storytelling elements are incredibly useful and fun. But a 17th century Cornish farmer would find modern fairy interpretations, with courts and contracts and mystical veils, as odd as a 17th century Transylvanian farmer would find modern vampires. There’s components there that they would recognize but there’s also been a lot of innovation in the space.

my dear friend just looked up from the hat she's crocheting for a very large spherical rock we found in the river and said, in a slightly haunted tone that revealed this was the first time she was having this thought, "i should make something for my cousin's real human baby"

I just know Tumblr would go insane about Dr. Henry Castafolte if only it knew about him...

Identity crisis? check. Mad scientist? check. Some flavour of queer probably? check. Humanist but still kind of an asshole? check. Hot? check. Brainwashed multiple times across the different seasons? check. Situationship with his best friend? once again, check.
#friendly reminder that the vdf exists and that it's a cool series that you should definitively give a chance to#you can also watch the movie if you want something shorter (technically it's a sequel but can absolutely be watched alone)#vdf

“Ariel sold her voice for legs just because of a guy“
Meanwhile Ariel with legs;
Ariel already loved the human world long before meeting Eric (you don’t get a collection like hers overnight) and when she finally got a chance to explore it, she took it.
Ursula made it more about Eric than Ariel ever did.
#something that always gets me about the og story is that she doesn't just dies#she *chose* to die because the alternative was killing the man she loved#she chose love and death over her own life and safety#this is treated by the narrative as the right thing to do‚ too

too many stories about turning yourself into a monster as a metaphor for pretending to be something you aren't and losing yourself in the process. not enough stories about turning yourself into a monster as a metaphor for choosing to openly embrace yourself even if it's strange to other people

I truly truly believe that the most important thing you can do in fandom is be a cheerleader. comment on fics. reblog art and rave in the tags. support the people making the things you want to see. this is how you keep a fandom alive. this is how you get more of what you want. you never know: that person could have decided to make more just because you liked it.
